Wiz Khalifa, Nas, Bone Thugs Lead Rock The Bells Lineup

Lupe Fiasco tweets that he’s not on this year’s bill, despite an announcement to the contrary. By Felicia Morris Wiz Khalifa Photo: Dana Nalbandian/ Getty Images Hip-hop’s premier music festival is back. On Tuesday, Guerilla Union held a press conference to reveal its lineup of hip-hop all-stars for Rock the Bells 2012. Freestyler extraordinaire Supernatural delivered the list of performers one-by-one with an impromptu rap, rattling off names like Wiz Khalifa , Kid Cudi, Nas , J. Cole and Mac Miller, as well as veteran acts like Missy Elliott, Timbaland and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Lupe Fiasco’s name also appears on the festival’s flyer, but on Wednesday morning (May 16), the Chi-Town lyricist tweeted that despite what was printed, he would not be in attendance this year. “Not doing Rock The Bellz…thats a typo fam and friends…,” he wrote . For the first time in nine years, Rock the Bells will expand its daylong festival to two days. The first show will take place August 18 at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, California. Last year’s three-stage setup forced fans to choose between their favorite acts, who would often perform simultaneously. “We had quite a few complaints about Mobb Deep fans having to choose between Mobb Deep and Nas,” Guerilla Union boss Chang Weisberg said as an example. “We tried to deliver three stages, but it didn’t work out. So the correction? Two stages, two days, one event.” RTB will hit the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, on August 25 and 26 and then the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey, on September 1 and 2. Coincidentally, the East Coast show falls on the very same weekend as Jay-Z’s recently announced Made in America multi-genre music festival in Philadelphia. Hov promises close to 30 eclectic acts in the fields of rock, hip-hop, R&B, Latin and dance music. The Made in America lineup hasn’t been announced yet, but already, the RTB bill is ripe with diverse rap talent. 2 Chainz, Tyga, Kendrick Lamar, Slick Rick, E-40, Too Short and A$AP Rocky will all be in attendance. The announcement event wrapped up with performances by DJ Quik and Bone Thugs, who took the stage and rocked a few of their many classics, leaving fans ready for the main course this summer. Fans should check RockTheBells.net for venue and ticket information. Related Videos Back To The ‘Burgh With Mac Miller And Wiz Khalifa Related Artists Nas Wiz Khalifa

Britney Spears Calls ‘X Factor’ A ‘Beautiful Concept’

Spears says she wants to ‘inspire’ contestants on the Fox show. By Jocelyn Vena “X Factor” judges L.A. Reid, Demi Lovato, Simon Cowell and Britney Spears at the FOX Upfront Photo: Desiree Navarro/ Getty Images Britney Spears seems poised and ready to sit beside her fellow “X Factor” judges on the revamped second season of the show . At the Fox upfront this week, the singer appeared alongside fellow newbie Demi Lovato , as well as returning judges Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid, and gushed about the Fox reality show. “Just really being able to be there and inspire the other contestants … they’re so young and they’re trying to fulfill their dreams,” she said at the event. “It’s just a whole beautiful concept. It’s just really cool.” While her negotiations with the show had been making headlines in the weeks leading up to the official announcement, Cowell brushed off all the hoopla, which includes a rumored $15 million payday for joining the show. “A force of nature, I was somewhere in the middle, but I’m thrilled. I love these guys,” he said of getting everyone, including Spears, on board. “I charmed her.” Spears seemed equally taken with the prickly Brit. “He’s adorable. He’s completely adorable. He didn’t have to try hard,” she admitted. Spears’ addition to the show is hardly the only casting making news: Lovato also opened up about having the “X Factor.” While little is known about the final hours going into locking Lovato in for the show, she’s rumored to be taking in $1 million, according to Gossip Cop . Lovato was on a short list of possible contenders to appear on the show that also reportedly included Miley Cyrus and Avril Lavigne. “I’m so excited to be here,” she said. “I guess you called,” she added with Simon by her side. “And that’s how it got set up, just a phone call.” In addition to getting warm and fuzzy about each other in the interview, Cowell shared that the judges will be filming in the next couple weeks when they hit up Austin, Texas, to begin scoping out talent. And if you think the claws might come out then, Reid assured viewers that that won’t be the case. “Oh no, we’re gonna be really sweet to each other,” he said. “Nothing controversial. It’ll be perfect.” Related Artists Britney Spears

Kristen Bell’s Bike Seat of the Day

I have a bike seat fetish….. Cuz I know all the pussy a bike seat rubs against…especially on hot summer days….cuz I follow girls on bikes around to sniff their seats when they run in to do errands…. I’m not creepy or anything…I just respect the hard work a bike seat puts in and the engineering that made it a pussy rubbing device on hot sweaty days….it is a hero amongst inanimate objects…. Imogen Thomas Upskirt Dog Party of the Day

IMOGEN THOMAS doesn’t matter…and either do her upskirts…but I guess if you’re sitting on the internet viewing this…they are better than not looking a pics of some attention seeker…even if going outside will probably lead to seeing up more skirts from real life women…if you angle the camera in your bag properly…than attention seekers like this…because in the event you don’t know…most girls are pretty irresponsible in their skirt wearing and let the wind, gettin out of cars or chairs…or sitting…get the best of them….and for some reason, when it isn’t staged for the papaprazzi to talk about them like they matter, when they don’t matter, you know the kind of bitch who knows her place….the flash is far more enjoyable. President Obama $15 Million Hollywood Fundraiser Hosts Robert Downey Jr., Tobey Maguire

‘Are we a country that includes everybody and give everybody a shot and treats everybody fairly?’ Obama tells the crowd about his gay marriage stance. By Gil Kaufman President Obama arrives in Los Angeles to attend a fundraiser at the home of George Clooney Photo: AFP/Getty Images President Obama again affirmed his support of gay marriage
on Thursday night at a star-studded Los Angeles fundraiser at the home of George Clooney. The event, which reportedly raised a record $15 million for the Obama re-election campaign fund, was attended by around 150 guests who paid $40,000, along with two women who won tickets by pledging $3 in an online raffle. Speaking in front of an audience that was likely to be receptive
to the message, Obama expanded on his view of gay marriage. “Obviously, yesterday we made some news,” he said to what was reported by The Los Angeles Times to be enthusiastic. Obama was referring to an ABC interview in which he revealed that he now personally supports same-sex marriage, which made him the first sitting president to ever do so. “It was a logical extension of what America is supposed to be. It grew directly out of this difference in visions: Are we a country that includes everybody and gives everybody a shot and treats everybody fairly and is that going to make us stronger? Are we welcoming to immigrants? Are we welcoming to people who aren’t like us — does that make us stronger? I believe it does. So that’s what’s at stake.” The comments reiterated his earlier embrace of gay marriage, which was applauded by celebrity blogger Perez Hilton
, who told MTV on Thursday that the news was happy, if a bit late in coming. “I wish he would have done this a long time ago,” Hilton said. The gathering was organized by DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, featured food by famed chef-to-the-stars Wolfgang Puck and took place in a large tent on the basketball court outside Clooney’s huge Tudor-style Hollywood home. Among the stars in attendance were Robert Downey Jr., Tobey Maguire, Jack Black, Salma Hayek, Billy Crystal, Barbra Streisand and husband James Brolin and Clooney’s girlfriend, Stacey Kiebler. Fresh off his joke-filled appearance at the Correspondents dinner in D.C., the president went for laughs again, chiding the host that his famous 2008 “Hope” campaign poster was taken from a photo of him sitting next to Clooney when Obama was a U.S. Senator. “This is the first time that George Clooney has ever been PhotoShopped out of a picture,” Obama said. “Never happened before, never happen again.” And while the night had a positive tone, Obama acknowledged to his high-dollar donors that the upcoming election is going to be much more difficult than the 2008 contest. “This is going to be harder than it was the last time,” he said. “2008, in some ways, was lighting in a bottle … So we’re going to have to fight against cynicism and a belief that maybe things can’t happen and maybe the game is rigged, what’s the point. That’s what we’re going to be fighting against this time.”

REVIEW: What If Women Ran the Middle East? Sanctimonious If Entertaining Where Do We Go Now? Has the Answer

It’s dangerous business to begin a movie with a voice-over monologue introducing “a long tale of women dressed in black.” Run, while there’s still time! Yet it’s a testament to director and actress Nadine Labaki’s gracefulness she pulls off this story as well as she does in Where Do We Go Now? , a fable set in a fictional town, presumably in Lebanon, where Christians and Muslims live together in bumptious accord, if not in complete harmony. Actually, the women – those aforementioned creatures dressed in black – get along famously, gathering regularly at the same café for all manner of gossip and chitchat. It’s the men who can’t hold it together: They’re always on the brink of fisticuffs and worse, each group expecting only the worst from the other. Don’t look now, but somebody filled the church holy water fonts with blood – must be the Muslims! Goats and chickens running amok in the mosque? Got to be those pesky Christians! The women are always suffering because of the men: As the movie opens, they stride toward the local cemetery en masse, their procession orchestrated as if it were a Pina Bausch routine, with somber, stiff leg movements and rhythmic breast-beating. The graves – Christians on one side of the burial ground, Muslims on the other – all bear pictures of the women’s lost men, people who have caused them a great deal of sorrow. The problem, as Labaki and her co-writers Jhad Hojeily and Rodney Al Haddad make clear, is that the men just can’t stop fighting. The village also happens to be located in an area riven by violence – it’s surrounded by land mines, which, in an early scene, kill a hapless goat. (The event is played for laughs, not pathos.) Meanwhile, a tentative romance brews between doe-eyed café proprietress Amale (Labaki, a sultry and winning presence) and local handyman Rabih (Julien Farhat), who’s doing some renovation work in her establishment. She’s Christian, he’s Muslim, and their union will be symbolic if it ever gets off the ground. But again, those men! They just won’t listen. The women eventually hatch a plan to keep peace in the village, but tragedy strikes regardless, making their lot even more challenging and wearying. You can see where Labaki is going with all this: If women ruled the world, there’d be no more war. It’s a darling idea, and Labaki does all she can to keep the proceedings entertaining – the picture is dotted with whimsical comedic touches and even includes a smattering of spontaneous Umbrellas of Cherbourg -style musical numbers. It also features an ensemble cast made up largely of nonprofessional actors, and they can be quite charming to watch. For a picture about centuries-old infighting and suffering, Where Do We Go Now? really is pretty cheerful. But its occasional entertainment value aside, the picture is also blithe to the point of being flimsy. This is Labaki’s second feature: The first was the 2007 Caramel , an engaging and visually lush picture set in a Beirut beauty shop, the perfect setting for a very different sort of story about the complications of women’s lives. Caramel is a delightfully fizzy picture, but oddly enough – or perhaps not – it cuts much deeper than Where Do We Go Now? It’s far less sanctimonious, and it defines some of the very real challenges modern women face in the Middle East: Even though its characters feel they’re free to shape their own futures, there are certain restrictions – put in place by men, of course – that threaten to hold them back. One character in Caramel is engaged to be married and has to find a solution to prevent her fiancé from learning that he isn’t her first. You could argue that her plight is nothing compared with massive wars fought on religious grounds. Then again, it’s a man’s pride she’s trying to protect, and she’ll do what it takes to preserve his illusions. Labaki clearly understands the connection between the larger battles and the small ones – it’s just that her ideas come through more subtly and effectively in the beauty-shop movie than in the war-zone movie. She doesn’t need exploding land mines to get her point across. Follow Stephanie Zacharek on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .

Drake Club Paradise Show Stopped By Police

Irvine, California, performance with J. Cole and 2 Chainz shut down early Tuesday night, police representative confirms to MTV News. By Rob Markman Drake Photo: Getty Images Drake ‘s Club Paradise closed a little early Tuesday night during his Irvine, California, stop after officials asked the Young Money standout to cut his set short. Drizzy complied, then took to Twitter to show his love to concertgoers: “Police made me cut the show short but I love you all for rocking with me Irvine,” Drake tweeted early Wednesday morning. Before the show, he urged ticketholders via Twitter to arrive early to the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre. With a jam-packed bill that included J. Cole, 2 Chainz, French Montana, Waka Flocka Flame and Meek Mill, Drizzy warned fans that they wouldn’t want to miss any of it. Apparently, Drake and his tourmates had too much planned, and Irvine police had to shut down the show early. A representative from the Irvine Police Department confirmed to MTV News that they had to wrap it up at approximately 11:45 p.m., forcing the MC to cut about three songs from his set. There were no incidents at the event, but because of the amphitheater’s close proximity to several residential areas, police asked Drake to end his show after he went past his scheduled stop time. The “Marvins Room” MC complied. This leg of Drake’s tour, in support of his latest album, Take Care , kicked off Monday and will run through June 17. “I tried to put together a tour that consisted of … everybody that you hear in your spare time,” Drake told MTV News on the set of 2 Chainz’s “No Lie” video in L.A. just before the tour. “These are the guys that are currently on the top of the game, so I tried to bring ’em all out [for] one night. And that’s why the tour’s called Club Paradise, because I want it to feel like you’re gonna hear every song that you wait to hear in the club.” The tour resumes Thursday night in Phoenix. Get there early. Related Artists Drake
