Top Ten Highest Paying Careers Not Involving A Ball Or A Mic

Regardless of what the society would like our sons and daughters to believe, athletes and entertainers are not the only ones making it rain in the salary department. LeBron James Blames Struggles of Former Team on Karma, God

LeBron James knows why the Cleveland Cavaliers lost to the Lakers by 55 points last night and why his former team has the worst record in basketball: fans of the franchise are being punished by God for daring to boo the superstar. We wish we were joking, but LeBron took to Twitter after the Cavs blow out and wrote: Crazy. Karma is a bitch. Gets you every time. Its not good to wish bad on anybody. God sees everything! This, of course, would mean that God also watched The Decision and yet has chosen to support James in light of the most egotistical act in the history of professional sports. Weird. We wish He would stick to forcing Steve Johnson to drop game-winning touchdown passes.

James Franco in Howl and 5 Other Favorite Movie Beatniks

While James Franco’s performance in 127 Hours has him on the likely-to-be-nominated list this year, his other real-life turn — as Beat poet Allen Ginsberg in Howl (out this week from Oscilloscope Laboratories) — deserves as much praise, even if the film itself was little-seen. The narrative debut of documentary filmmakers Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman ( The Times of Harvey Milk , The Celluloid Closet ), Howl succeeds both at capturing the milieu in which Ginsberg wrote his most famous work and at bringing the poem itself to dazzling, cinematic life. So with Howl (one of my favorite films of 2010) coming to DVD and a long-awaited film adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road slated to hit later this year from director Walter Salles, here’s a few of our favorite big-screen beatniks.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Cee Lo Might Crash SNL

Just days after Cee Lo revealed that he would gladly team up with Gwyneth Paltrow, despite her work covering “F*ck You” for Glee , the Country Strong star says she might appear with the Grammy-nominated singer on this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live . “We’re sort of emailing each other, we don’t know where that’s gonna go,” said Paltrow. “But I am such a big fan of Cee Lo, he is so gorgeous and talented and amazing.” Whatever that means. For reference, Jim Carrey is hosting this weekend with musical guest The Black Keys. Stay (unfortunately) tuned. [ NYP ]

Help Caption the First Image of Simon Pegg on the Set of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

Even the most cynical among us are probably looking forward to seeing what Brad Bird can do with Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol come next December. Can the Pixar genius help resurrect Cruise’s career in ways that don’t involve Les Grossman? Will Renner provide enough star wattage to carry on the franchise himself? Will Tom Cruise affect a Russian accent at any time during the film to coincide with this uniform ? What will Simon Pegg be doing? Regarding that last one, the Paul star posted a picture to his Twitter feed that might help answer that query.

The A-Team’s Sharlto Copley on Budgets, Apartheid and Going Off Script

While this summer’s big-budget adaptation of the ’80s TV hit The A-Team (out this week from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment) may not have been the franchise tentpole its studio hoped to get for the money it spent, the action extravaganza did confirm the star quality of Sharlto Copley , who first turned up on our pop culture radars after his starring role in the 2009 Best Picture nominee District 9 .

REVIEW: Less Magic, More Brooding in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter saga began as a series of children’s books and evolved into young-adult ones: The series grew up right in step with that first group of readers, even though, of course, people of all ages continue to love them today. The movies based on those books have offered a concurrent, dovetailing kind of pleasure: The joy of watching young actors grow up on-screen, learning as they go and, quite surprisingly, finding new dimensions in their characters each time out. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint — as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley — haven’t become worn out by their roles, as the admittedly older Twilight stars have. Who knows what their post- Harry Potter careers will bring? The body of work they’ve already amassed — up to and including this almost-final installment in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 — can stand by itself. Over the years, the magic in their bones has only grown stronger.

Hollywood’s 5 Most Well-Done Responses to 9/11

Hollywood was in a precarious position in the months and years following Sept. 11, 2001: Completely ignore the event and a filmmaker might seem callous or, at the very least, out of touch. Center an entire film around the tragedy and that same filmmaker could be accused of being exploitative. The industry obviously had to respond, but it had to be done right. There’s quite a difference between good filmmaking and a 9/11 reference only for the sake of tugging at already existing emotional strings (I’m talking to you, Remember Me ). It’s cheap. Though, some were done very well. We assembled a few examples of films over the last nine years which went about addressing those events of 2001 in a unique, thoughtful or poignant way.

REVIEW: With Resident Evil: Afterlife, There’s Not Much Thrilla Left in Milla

Sorry to disappoint the fanboys, but this is the first film in the Resident Evil series in which Milla Jovovich neither begins nor ends the movie stark naked. That said, her skintight ass-kicking ninja outfit doesn’t exactly leave much to the imagination, and her most sensual features — her feline eyes and liquid mouth — are as available and expressive as ever. For the fourth consecutive film in the franchise, she’s a whirling, swirling, zombie-killing baby doll, and remains the only reason to visit Paul W.S. Anderson’s dopily grim dystopia. It’s a fact that Anderson tacitly acknowledges in the film’s opening scene, populating the screen with dozens of careening Jovovich clones.

‘Transformers 3’ Star Tyrese Gibson Saddened By Megan Fox’s Departure

‘We built something here. We all did,’ actor says at E! 20th anniversary celebration. By Adam Rosenberg, with reporting by Todd Gilchrist Tyrese Gibson Photo: MTV News The “Transformers”-loving world was shocked last week when it was revealed that star Megan Fox would not be returning for the upcoming third movie in the franchise, which starts shooting this week. Although her character was central to the plot of the first two movies, a publicly contentious professional relationship between Fox and director Michael Bay reportedly led to the split. “Transformers” co-star Tyrese Gibson said he was disappointed when he heard the news of Fox’s departure. “I was sad about it, man. Genuinely,” he told MTV News on the red carpet for the E! 20th anniversary celebration Monday night. “We built something here. We all did. We all put our own sauce and stamp and energy on this franchise.” As much as he was bummed to hear the news, Gibson isn’t prying into the backstory before he heads to the “Transformers 3” set this Thursday. “I don’t know exactly what went down,” he said. “But it’s crazy to see the band get broken up, you know what I mean?” No matter which story you believe — that Paramount decided not to exercise Fox’s option, or that Fox decided she wanted out — it certainly is surprising that such a key figure in the franchise would be removed so suddenly, especially with production so close to kicking off. The problematic Fox/Bay relationship aside, there have been few indications of problems in the “Transformers” camp. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura even told MTV News in a recent interview that a “Transformers” without Fox was unthinkable . “Michael and Megan get along great. Like in any creative endeavor, there’s not always total agreement,” he said at the time. “But I think [reports of their issues with one another is] much ado about nothing. I even read that we were thinking about not casting her. Come on! It’s so silly. As though we would want to mess with such a successful combination.” Do you think the “Transformers” franchise will do well without Megan Fox? Talk about it in the comments!
