While it is true that we, as a people, could probably stand to do MORE reading, there are several books that have been read in damn-near every hood in America. Although we would encourage people to read books that can provide knowledge, and depth of understanding, there is nothin’ wrong with sitting in your favorite seat and reading great works of urban fiction, street tales, gangsta isht, and coming-of-age narratives. Over the next few pages we have compiled a list of books that you’ve probably read (or at least heard of) that we would consider “hood classics”. Tomorrow we will have a list of more “intellectual” books that are just as entertaining and equally as important (if not more so).
This can’t be real life … A woman is in the hospital after witnesses say she was assaulted at a Chuck E. Cheese’s restaurant in Dearborn over the weekend. Family members tell FOX 2 the woman was celebrating her grandson’s seventh birthday Sunday afternoon when she asked patrons at a nearby table to clean up their language. “She said, ‘please don’t use that language with children,’” said the victim’s daughter. “They told her to ‘shut the f— up and turn around.’” That’s when the daughter says a man jumped over tables and started swinging at people. “He punched her in the face and dragged her by her hair,” she added. The 50-year-old victim was taken to nearby Oakwood Hospital where family members say she underwent a CAT scan and was treated for lacerations to her face and mouth. FOX 2 has learned the family was refunded their money by restaurant management. The incident is the third time in recent months FOX 2 has reported violent encounters at different Chuck E. Have you ever seen a dumber pair of siblings?? SMH! A brother and sister teamed up to rob at least one bank in Prince George’s County, police said, and they didn’t go far to do it. Kadija Taylor, 20, and her 19-year-old brother, Shakir Taylor, are suspected in connection with a robbery at an M&T bank in the 3700 block of Donnell Drive, in Forestville, Md. Surveillance video showed the siblings walk in to the bank before noon Nov. 8. They passed a note to a teller and received a stack of cash in return. Police called it a very substantial amount of money. The Taylors got away without the aid of a getaway car. They didn’t need one. According to police, the siblings live on the same block and simply walked away. Kadija Taylor was arrested later the day of the robbery, but her brother remains free and is wanted on a robbery warrant. Police are investigating whether the Taylors executed any other bank jobs in the area. Two fools and their stolen money are soon parted…and arrested!! Source More On Bossip! You can take n-words out of Queens, but you can’t take the hood out of n-words. According to TMZ , Nicki Minaj got into some kind of confrontation with “the help” yesterday… and Safaree made the situation worse by getting one-time involved. Here’s the backstory. Law enforcement tells us, a couple of weeks ago, Nicki’s maid took a photo of the singer out of the trash and then asked Nicki to sign it. Nicki got pissed and fired her. Cops tell us, the maid did come back today, and Nicki became enraged and ordered her to leave. A source privy to the fight tells TMZ, the maid stood her ground, demanding not to be “treated like an animal” — at which point, Nicki allegedly said, “I’ll show you how to treat someone like an animal … get the f**k out of my house!” Now here’s where the stories are a bit conflicting. One source says — contrary to what the cops say — Nicki actually made a mistake, saw another maid and assumed she was the one Nicki had fired. We have had multiple people involved in the incident tell us … the maid Nicki confronted was NOT the same maid she fired a few weeks ago. It was a case of mistaken identity. Either way, Nicki’s boyfriend got in the act and began pushing the maid with his body. The maid’s boss called the cops and filed a battery report. The cops came and the maid asked to make a citizen’s arrest, but eventually decided against it so no one was taken into custody. Somebody cancel this Scaf Beezy character. That’s the second close calls on an assault charge: he’s starting to become a liability.
Finally, Rayon MacIntosh speaks his piece… A McDonald’s cashier who swapped Happy Meals for jail fare after an ugly fast-food fight says he was goaded by a foul-mouthed customer who threatened to cut him up. Rayon McIntosh, in an exclusive Rikers Island interview with the Daily News, said yesterday that he only smacked the woman and her friend with a metal bar after they jumped the counter and attacked him. The first patron “started getting really aggressive,” said McIntosh, giving his version of the brawl for the first time. “She came in angry,” he said. “I tried to keep things calm as best I could.” The ex-con, who served about a decade on a manslaughter rap, said his Oct. 13 shift at the Greenwich Village eatery was uneventful before his two tormenters arrived. “I was not looking for trouble,” said McIntosh, 31, wearing a crisp gray jail outfit. “The trouble found me. People are portraying me as a vicious attacker. “I was just working at my job when I was attacked for no reason. I’m not a heartless person.” We TOTALLY get it that Mr. MacIntosh was attacked, cursed, and disrespected. Without question he has a right to defend himself from the two crazy beyotches that hopped the counter to catch fade, however, beating them over and over after they had hit the ground and fracturing a skull is a LITTLE overkill. Let’s see how long this lasts… DMX has finally figured out that the money he’s been spending on coke is really supposed to be child support money, TMZ reports . DMX tells TMZ, he has finally kicked the drug addictions that kept him behind bars for years — and he has his children to thank. X tells us, coke was his greatest demon after his latest prison release in July — “Everyone was taking advantage of me with my finances, trying to put me in the direction to fail. I have 10 kids. I have to drive them in the right direction, so I let the cocaine go.” The rapper — real name Earl Simmons — says God also helped him through … telling us, “I am on a spiritual road to do right in my life. I am leaving out all negativity and going to stay on the right road to positive.” X’s pastor tells us, “When [DMX] first came to my church he looked broken, sad, and full of struggle. Now you see a dramatic change. You see that the drugs and alcohol aren’t in his life.” Well, at least Brother Earl’s getting his life together. That’s all we ever asked.

Annette Morales-Rodriguez, 33, faces one count each of first-degree intentional homicide while armed and first-degree intentional homicide of an unborn child while armed in the death of Maritza Ramirez-Cruz and the boy she was set to deliver next week. Morales-Rodriguez faces mandatory life in prison if convicted. Pregnant mom, unborn baby killed in ‘fetal abduction’ Morales-Rodriguez made a brief court appearance Monday, standing silent as her bail was set at $1 million. Online court records didn’t list an attorney for her, and the Milwaukee public defender’s office voicemail wouldn’t accept messages Monday afternoon. “I don’t know what she had in her mind,” said Maria Garcia, 44, who lives next to Morales-Rodriguez and described her as her best friend. According to the criminal complaint, Morales-Rodriguez told detectives that her boyfriend wanted a son but she couldn’t get pregnant. She told him she was pregnant anyway, but started to grow desperate as what would be her due date approached. She told investigators she planned for two weeks to find a pregnant woman, take the baby and make it hers, the complaint said. Now if that plan sounds FAWKING ridiculous wait until you read how she actually carried it out…SMH Morales-Rodriguez drove around on Wednesday searching for a pregnant woman, but found none, authorities said. On Thursday she drove around a nonprofit organization that provides Hispanics with health care and found Ramirez-Cruz. The 23-year-old had moved from Puerto Rico to join her childhood sweetheart, Christian Mercado, said Mercado’s father, Carlos Mercado. They already had three children together and Ramirez-Cruz was carrying their fourth. Morales-Rodriguez told detectives she thought about telling her boyfriend the truth, but decided against it and offered Ramirez-Cruz a ride. Telling Ramirez-Cruz she needed to change her shoes, she drove them to her weathered two-story house on Milwaukee’s south side. Ramirez-Cruz went inside to use the bathroom. When she emerged, Morales-Rodriguez was waiting for her with a baseball bat. The complaint said Morales-Rodriguez began to bludgeon her. Ramirez-Cruz fell to the ground. Morales-Rodriguez straddled the younger woman and choked her until she passed out, the complaint said. See, we told you.
