American journalist James Foley was executed by the Islamic militant group known as ISIS earlier this week. The Sunni extremists videotaped Foley’s grisly murder and claimed that his beheading was a protest against US foreign policies. James Foley Executed By Islamic Militants It now seems, however, that Foley’s capture and killing were part of a desperate extortion plot. ISIS reportedly demanded that the US pay a $132 million ransom for Foley’s safe return. The American government refused to pay the ransom, but reportedly – under direct orders from the President Obama – US Marines embarked on an unsuccessful rescue mission to try and save Foley and other captives; “The U.S. government had what we believed was sufficient intelligence, and when the opportunity presented itself, the president authorized the Department of Defense to move aggressively to recover our citizens,” said White House counterterrorism advisor Lisa Monaco. “Unfortunately, that mission was ultimately not successful because the hostages were not present.” The rescue mission reportedly resulted in a firefight that killed several ISIS operatives, but no Americans. Other new details of Foley’s execution include the fact that the executioner in his video is a British extremist nicknamed “John” by hostages, due to his resemblance to Beatles singer John Lennon. Obama has come under fire from conservatives for continuing his vacation in Martha’s Vineyard in the days following the murder.

Hey, boo, hey ! I cannot even be objective right now. I love Regina Hall. I’ve thought she was talented since she portrayed “Candy” on The Best Man and after watching her in a string of box office hits and some pretty hilarious interviews with Kevin Hart in promotion for their film About Last Night, I thought ‘Oh, Regina seems cool…and funny as all get out.’ So naturally, when MadameNoire was offered the opportunity to speak to her, I jumped at it, hoping she’d be as nice and personable chatting as she seemed to be. She definitely was, or is. I left the conversation confirming all those assumptions but also adding intelligent and inspirational to the list. She’s a joy, really. See more at: MadameNoire
Ryan Lewis – the hip hop producer best known for his work with Macklemore – revealed today that his mother is HIV positive. Lewis made the announcement today via Twitter in a statement that also includes a link to donate to the 30/30 Project – an HIV/AIDS research charity that he founded with help from Macklemore. In his statement, the Grammy winner revealed that his mother contracted the illness after receiving a blood transfusion in 1984. At that time, little was known about HIV and Julie Lewis’ prognosis was grim. She pulled through, however, and the name of Ryan’s foundation is a tribute to his mother’s 30 years of survival. Lewis concluded his statement by saying, “I am honored to be the first donor to the 30/30 Project…I am asking you to join my family and see how far we can take this.” AIDS research has progressed significantly in recent years with doctors suggesting a cure for HIV may be possible in the near future. Naturally, further research is still required and treatment for current victims remains a pressing concern. So while some hip hop stars busy themselves lint rolling their pants at basketball games, Ryan Lewis and Macklemore have clearly committed themselves to using their fame to promote an important and personal cause.
Rumors that Laura Prepon is dating Tom Cruise have been circulating for months now, but the Orange is the New Black actress curiously waited until today to address them. Laura Prepon: NOT Dating Tom cruise While promoting the new season of her hit Netflix series, Prepon said of Cruise, “I totally respect him and think he’s an amazing actor…I’m flattered because I think he’s hot so I’m like, ‘Oh that’s nice.'” Prepon also addressed rumors that she wouldn’t be appearing in the second season of OITNB because portraying a homosexual character conflicts with her beliefs as a Scientologist. The actress claims she initially bowed out of the second season as a result of scheduling conflicts. She went on to say that despite popular beliefs to the contrary, Scientologists are not anti-gay : “I’m a total supporter of the LGBT and they are an amazing fan base,” says Prepon. “It’s so funny when people don’t know they just make stuff up…Apparently I’m dating Tom Cruise now and apparently he doesn’t want me to do the show because I portray a lesbian and I’m a Scientologist. This is false; where are they even getting this stuff?” It’s good that Laura has taken the opportunity to clear up some misconceptions about her faith, but the really important here is clear: Alex Vause is coming back to Orange is the New Black! Via Page Six reports : Nas, who’s had 13 Grammy nominations and no wins, says he doesn’t see it as an snub. “I like that the Grammys nominated me,” he said at the Paley Center for Media during a panel for VH1’s “The Tanning of America.” “I know the hugest platform for music is the Grammys, it matters . . . but something that huge is never gonna get it right. So it’s OK. It gives me the opportunity to wear a nice suit on a red carpet.” He also says, “As far as the state of rap music, it’s a lot of jingles . . . And that’s cool . . . I see a lot of young black kids making money, and I’m very happy with that.” LOL @ “it’s a lot of jingles”
