Thia Megia Makes Like Pocahontas

Tasked with covering a song from the year of her birth, Thia Megia went all Disney on American Idol viewers last night. The season 10 hopeful delivered a lovely version of Vanessa Williams’ “Colors of the Wind” from the 1995 film Pocahontas . Wow. Yes, Thia Megia was born in 1995. It’s a safe choice, one that shows off Megia’s steady, strong tone and style. Randy thought the selection was a bit too safe, while Jennifer Lopez questions the quality of her vibrato. Watch the performance for yourself and sound off now: What do you think of Thia? Thia Megia – Colors of the Wind

Taboo Defends The Black Eyed Peas Halftime Show

If you were looking for energy and many bright lights, The Black Eyed Peas Super Bowl halftime performance went perfectly on Sunday. But if you tuned in hoping to hear perfect sound mixing and smooth vocals, you were one of the many critics disappointed in the results. Black Eyed Peas Halftime Show In a new interview with Pop Eater, group member Taboo acknowledges a few “technical problems,” but defends the performance overall, explaining: The thing about it is there were 100 million viewers. If you get 60 million people who didn’t like it and you get 40 million that did like the show, that’s a pretty cool thing because you can’t please everybody. Everybody who is a critic is going to criticize and annihilate everything you do even if it’s a good thing. They just want to bring it down. As many people who are blogging about how disappointed they were, there’s a lot of people in the streets who really loved the show. What did you think of the performance?

REVIEW: Paul Giamatti Anchors a Sprawling Barney’s Version

Though it’s wrong to think that curmudgeons are more complex than shiny, happy people are, it’s probably safe to assume they make more interesting movie characters — as long as you don’t have to live with them. In Barney’s Version, Richard J. Lewis’s adaptation of Mordecai Richler’s novel, Paul Giamatti plays the kind of guy most of us wouldn’t want to live with, a grouchy two-bit television exec who’s blown through several marriages and who doesn’t seem to have much use for anyone. But the modest trick of the performance, and of the movie around it, is that a person who seems wholly unbearable at first ends up being someone we can almost care about. That’s the power of art: What does it mean when you find yourself reaching out to a guy you can barely tolerate?

Taylor Swift Bangs Away at American Music Awards

Taylor Swift went Back to December at last night’s American Music Awards. The country singer picked up a major trophy and also serenaded fans with a rendition of one of her “Speak Now” singles. What did you think of the performance ? Swift also debuted a new hairstyle at the event, posing backstage before and after the show with bangs and a noticeable absence of curls. Vanilla Ice, Bare Boobs, Urine-Soaked Watermelon Featured During Night of Tila Tequila Attack

Key details involving a washed-up rapper, bare breasts and a piece of fruit covered in human excrement are emerging regarding the Saturday night concert at which Tila Tequila was brutally attacked . For once, the mentally unbalanced D-lister has not invented a sordid story, as multiple reports confirm that Tila did, indeed, suffer bloody wounds as a result of a rowdy crowd at the Gathering of Juggalos in Illinois. A former professional wrestler named Colt Cabana was in attendance, for example, and says attendees began to boo lustily as soon as Tequila took the stage and started rapping her single, “I Fucked the DJ.” In response, the former realty star took off her shirt – but this only elicited more insults and projectiles, such as beer bottles… … and a watermelon that had been soaked for two days in urine and feces, a security guard allegedly claims, which a concert goer had been saving for Tila. Despite this incident (or maybe because of it), Cabana said he enjoyed the event, specifically the performance of Vanilla Ice on “Ninja Rap” from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze soundtrack. Really, he said that. Meanwhile, Tequila’s rep says a “lawsuit is pending” regarding the beating (which you can watch HERE ); while her manager adds: “Tila has gotten medical care for the horrific attack that happened to her this weekend at the Juggalos event in Chicago and is in good hands right now and under medical direction. She would like to thank all of her fans for all the love and support that they have given.” The entire thing is shocking. Seriously, who knew Tila had fans?!?

Is This the Best (or Worst) Late Night TV Moment of 2010?

A few weeks ago prior to a taping of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon , Roots leader and NWA enthusiast Questlove enlisted guest Ice Cube to revive the rap pioneers’ “Straight Outta Compton.” The video of the performance only made it online late Tuesday, depicting a sanitized, Rock Center-friendly rendition of a song whose original endures as one of the most searing tracks of the ’80s. I can’t lie: It raises goose bumps — and at least a few questions.
