Well kinda sorta… Columbus knew he had to say SOMETHING about all that craziness ! Columbus Short Releases A Statement In Response To Wife’s Abuse Allegations Isht pretty much hit the fan Wednesday after Columbus Short’s wife filed for divorce AND a restraining order that included a statement that said he’d threatened her a knifepoint. While he definitely has some explaining to do, Short says he just can’t right now. In a statement released by his publicist on his behalf Short says: “As you all know, lately my personal life has been subjected to a lot of press. As much as I would like to provide my side of events, my counsel has instructed me that a Court of law is the only and proper venue to deal with such matters. Accordingly, I must refrain from making any comments even though that is very difficult for me under the circumstances. Thank you to my fans for your continued support during this difficult time.” Yikes… Shonda Rhimes is probably THIS close to writing homeboy off “Scandal.”
Porsha is on her own! Nene Leakes Denies Leaving RHOA If Porsha Williams Gets Fired We reported that the entire cast of “Real Housewives of Atlanta” was threatening to walk off the show if Porsha Williams is fired over her fight with Kenya Moore. Sources close to the show claim the women hatched their plan at Kandi Burruss’ wedding, telling the show’s producers how much they despise Moore because of all the drama she stirs up. Not so fast! NeNe Leakes and Cynthia Bailey now claim the gossip is completely false! Nene tells Essence Magazine : “I don’t know where that came from. I’ve never said that. We don’t group up together to do much. You know all of us aren’t goosing up together to be going to bat for Porsha. We don’t collectively do anything. But I will say this, I don’t think that Porsha deserves to get fired based on the fight with Kenya. I do think she was on the chopping block before she got into the fight. Fighting Kenya did not help her case.” Nene clearly doesn’t like Kenya but she knows she’s good for the reality show: “I don’t like Kenya. TMZ or somebody caught me one night coming out of Mr. Chow’s and I said, just jokingly, they need to get Kenya off the show. But seriously, I understand the reality world. There has to be a cuckoo bird. That’s entertainment. I wanna see the show do very well, and I think Kenya brings an element to the show and they should have. I think all of that makes for great television.” Cynthia Bailey also took to her Twitter account to shut down the rumors: Would you still watch if Porsha got the pink slip? Twitter

The restaurant that was at the center of Paula Deen discrimination allegations has been closed for good. Uncle Bubba’s Seafood And Oyster House Co-Owned By Paula Deen And Brother Permanently Closed The messed up part about it is that employees of the restaurant learned of its closing the same way as the rest of the world — via a Facebook status message posted earlier Thursday. As you would probably expect, the employees were none too pleased about this. Read a few reactions below: News 3 Savannah published the following statement released via the restaurant’s marketing and public relations company: “Since its opening in 2004, Uncle Bubba’s Oyster House has been a destination for residents and tourists in Savannah, offering the region’s freshest seafood and oysters. However, the restaurant’s owner and operator, Bubba Hiers, has made the decision to close the restaurant in order to explore development options for the waterfront property on which the restaurant is located. At this point, no specific plans have been announced and a range of uses are under consideration in order realize the highest and best use for the property. The closing is effective today, Thursday, April 3, 2014. Employees will be provided with severance based on position and tenure with the restaurant. All effort will be made to find employees comparable employment with other Savannah restaurant organizations.” Well at least they’re going to try and find them new jobs right? SMH… SplashNews
WTF?!? Woman Declared Dead But Wakes Up In A Mortuary Then Freezes To Death The family of a woman who may have been prematurely declared dead , awoke in the hospital’s freezer and struggled before ultimately freezing to death can go forward with a lawsuit against the hospital, an appellate court has ruled. Via LA Times reports: Maria de Jesus Arroyo, 80, was pronounced dead in July 2010 at White Memorial Medical Center in Boyle Heights after suffering a heart attack. When morticians received her body a few days later, they found her body facedown, with her nose broken and cuts and bruises to her face, injuries so severe they could not be covered up by make-up, according to court papers. Arroyo’s husband and eight children initially sued the hospital alleging the body had been mishandled after her death. But during litigation, a pathologist who reviewed Arroyo’s injuries concluded the injuries most likely occurred while she was still alive – that she had been “frozen alive,” “eventually woke up” and “damaged her face and turned herself face down as she struggled unsuccessfully to escape her frozen tomb,” according court records. The family’s attorney, Scott Schutzman, withdrew the mishandling lawsuit and refiled a second case in May 2012 alleging the hospital had mistakenly declared her dead and frozen her while she was still living. A Los Angeles trial judge threw out that lawsuit, siding with the hospital’s attorneys that the second suit was filed too late, beyond the one-year statute of limitations after the family discovered Arroyo’s injuries. The hospital has not addressed the allegation that Arroyo was prematurely declared dead, according to court records. The 2nd District Court of Appeal on Wednesday overturned the trial judge and revived the medical malpractice suit, finding that the family could not have known Arroyo may have been prematurely declared deceased and frozen alive until the pathologist gave his expert opinion, in December 2011. “Plaintiffs had absolutely no reason to suspect that the decedent was alive rather than dead when placed in the Hospital morgue and when the disfiguring injuries occurred,” the appellate justices wrote in their opinion. Since it is not acceptable to put those responsible in a body bag and freeze them to death, monetary compensation is the only remedy available.
Salute this young man! Poor Black DC Student With 4.3 GPA Accepted Into 5 Ivy League Schools This is the college acceptance season — frequently a nervous time for high school seniors. But D.C.’s Avery Coffey can relax. He applied to five Ivy League universities and all five accepted him. Via My Fox DC reports: Coffey attends Benjamin Banneker Academic High School, a D.C. public school with strict rules. None of the 439 students at Banneker is allowed to bring a cell phone into the building. They are also not allowed to go to their lockers during the school day. (That has spawned the peculiar tradition of piling up textbooks at the base of lockers, so kids can switch books between classes without violating the locker rule.) The strict rules at Banneker have fostered a rather serious academic environment. Principal Anita Berger says year after year after year, 100 percent of Banneker graduates are accepted into post-secondary institutions. Among these brainy and motivated public school students is 17-year-old Coffey who, like a lot of kids, enjoys sports. What does he play? “Baseball, basketball, tennis, soccer,” Coffey told us. He also enjoys academics, and he has a 4.3 high school report card average, adjusted for the demanding International Baccalaureate courses he takes. Coffey scored very high on standardized tests also. He calls himself a “determined” student. Coffey applied to five Ivy League universities, and, amazingly, has been accepted at all of them: Harvard, Princeton, Yale, the University of Pennsylvania, and Brown. And four of the five universities have already offered very generous financial aid packages. (Harvard is still formulating its offer.) Avery Coffey wants to major in finance. What’s the perfect job? “I guess probably the CEO of an investment (or management consulting) firm. I guess pretty much overseeing acquisitions or transactions between large companies. Hopefully, Fortune 500 companies,” Coffey told us with a grin. Coffey grew up in a single-parent household in D.C.’s Ward 8, the poorest part of the city. His mom works as a technician at Children’s Hospital. Avery’s advice to younger kids? “You can go anywhere you want to, pursue any career that you want to, and you shouldn’t let anybody hinder you from trying to reach your goals,” he said. Coffee hasn’t yet made up his mind as to which college to attend. But he says he’s leaning toward Penn or Harvard. Congrats!

Lorde’s boo says dating his famous girlfriend hasn’t been easy … Lorde’s Chinese Boyfriend Pens Touching Open Letter To Her Being on the outskirts of fame has taught Lorde ‘s boyfriend a lot. In a new blog posted on his site titled “everybody returns someday,” James K. Lowe talks about how his life has changed since Lorde became a huge celebrity. Via Page Six reports: “Since originally sitting down to write this post, Ella has become a two time Grammy winner. She has taken home a Brit too. Currently she is on the opposite side of the world on tour,” he writes of the 17-year-old pop phenom. “As much as I miss her I couldn’t be prouder of what she has achieved so far. If you are lucky enough to attend one of her shows on this current tour, you’ll experience more than just her voice.” Lowe, an Auckland, New Zealand-based photographer, continues: “Jared Leto said that fame doesn’t change you, it changes everyone around you. While I’m not the centre of attention here (and f—k, the times I have, it’s never been fun), I do become aware of the people around me and their transparency. They fail to hide it. I’ve experienced being a target of the tabloids, finding moments I thought I was in safe hands splattered all over the internet, being pushed and shoved, or watching others get pushed and shoved by paparazzi just to get what they think they’re entitled to.” But the 24-year-old, who was the target of online bullying earlier this year, maintains a positive outlook despite being somewhat unwillingly thrust into the public eye. “While I’m dragging on about the negative aspects, they are only a smart part of my world now. There is a bright, shining silver lining to this thing … I’ve been able to tell tales of the many amazing people I’ve met along the way – from fellow photographers, to artists I’ve always admired and never thought I’d get to meet, let alone have a simple thing like coffee with… People who seem to scramble the words within your brain and the only thing you end up doing is blurting out ‘HILSKDFLKWELK’ (at some point it’s a verbal greeting, but ends up a flurry of sweat mixed with spit). More importantly, I’ve found a little inspiration from new faces. People I look up to. People whose work I admire so much,” he says. “For all of this I have to thank the one I look up to the most. Who I admire the most. Who still fills the little voids I try to avoid.” Could it be Lorde? IG Continue reading →
