Shady Bolitics: GOP Digs Up “Criminal” Past Of First-Ever Transgendered Government Official And Calls For Her Resignation

GOP Calls For Resignation Of First-Ever Transgendered Government Official Conservative right wingers in New Hampshire have struck gold in the eyes of GOP goons everywhere as they have found a reason to kick the first-ever transgendered government official to the curb. via ABC News Republicans in New Hampshire’s state legislature have called for the first elected transgender official in the state – and the nation – to step down in light of a newspaper article that revealed her criminal past. Stacie Marie Laughton, a Democrat, made history this month when she was elected to a seat in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from Hillsborough County, which includes Nashua. But a story in the Laconia Daily Sun revealed that Laughton was a convicted felon who served more than four months in jail for ”conspiracy to commit credit card fraud” in 2008. Granite State House Majority Leader Pete Silva, R-Nashua, said Laughton’s failure to inform Nashua voters about her background before the election was grounds for her resignation, according to the Nashua Patch. The GOP goons are on their job. Sounds like they’re still salty from that massive L they took during the Presidential election and are taking it out on any Democrat within reach. SMH. Did You Know?? Shady Facebook Privacy Changes Raise Concern…And Spikes In Shares!

Facebook investors bought more shares of the stock today as the new ‘privacy’ policy’s about to take effect. According to the LA Times , shares rose 8% to $25.94…mainly because investors know the profit that’s in the shady business of selling your personal information. Two consumer watchdogs are urging Facebook founder and Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg to back off proposed changes to its policies that they say would curb the rights of its 1 billion-plus users and make more personal information available to advertisers without users’ explicit consent in violation of a privacy settlement with the Federal Trade Commission. In a letter sent to Zuckerberg on Monday, the groups asked Facebook to be “responsive to the rights of Facebook users to control their personal information and to participate in the governance of Facebook.” Facebook informed users last week that it planned to do away with its system that allows users to vote on –- and strike down — changes to its policies and terms of services if the policy change receives more than 7,000 comments and more than 30% of users take part in the vote. In addition, Facebook said it would no longer let users control who could message them on the service, and would instead set up new filters to help users manage their messages. Most controversial to privacy watchdogs: Facebook’s plans to begin sharing users’ data between its own services and affiliates, most notably Instagram, which it bought earlier this year for about $715 million. Google was on the receiving end of a similar reaction last January when it said it would combine users’ personal information from all of its services including search, email, the Google+ social network and video-sharing site YouTube. Regulators and privacy groups warned at the time that the policy change invaded users’ privacy and put them at greater risk for hackers and identity thieves. “As our company grows, we acquire businesses that become a legal part of our organization. Those companies sometimes operate as affiliates. We wanted to clarify that we will share information with our affiliates and vice versa, both to help improve our services and theirs, and to take advantage of storage efficiencies,” Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes said in an emailed statement. “The settlement prohibits Facebook from misrepresenting the extent to which it maintains the privacy or security of covered information. Additionally, prior to any sharing of users’ personal information with a third party, Facebook must make a clear and prominent disclosure and obtain the affirmative express consent of its users,” Rotenberg and Chester wrote in Monday’s letter to Zuckerberg. The changes could help Facebook — after a rocky debut as a publicly traded company — win back favor with investors. The giant social network is looking to reverse a sharp slowdown in revenue growth. The stock has declined more than 30% since its initial public stock offering in May. Facebook, Google, and other companies are under greater scrutiny for how they handle personal information. Consumers are handing over more and more personal information, yet privacy watchdogs say they have less and less say over what companies do with it. Facebook downplayed the significance of eliminating its 4-year-old voting system, saying it has simply outgrown it. Instead of having users cast a ballot, Facebook said it would rely on other means of giving them a voice in changes to the service such as an “Ask the Chief Privacy Officer” question-and-answer forum on its website. Privacy groups said scrapping the voting system “raises questions about Facebook’s willingness to take seriously the participation of Facebook users.” “We hope Mark Zuckerberg will do the right thing. The proposed change to the privacy policy is not fair to users. It’s their data, not Facebook’s,” Rotenberg said. Facebook has notified users about the proposed policy changes and provided a seven-day window for public comments. Comments have already exceeded the 7,000 needed to trigger a vote. The vote is expected to begin on Thursday. Facebook investors were voting with their portfolios on Monday. Facebook shares hit their highest price in four months after analysts said investors had underestimated the company’s growth potential. That’s some scary bull right there. Make sure you check your accounts in the coming days. Images via facebook

That’s Some Bull: New York Electric Company Charges Sandy Victims For Power They Didn’t Have

The Long Island Power Authority should be ashamed of themselves! According to The New York Post , they’ve sent millions of their customers ‘normal’ electric bills, as if Sandy and the power outages never even happened!?!? The clueless utility charged Sandy-soaked Long Island residents an estimated rate that covered the entire billing cycle, and the statements made no mention of potential refunds to account for the prolonged blackouts. Jonathan Saporta was slapped with a double whammy by the Long Island Power Authority — a $649 bill for the Long Beach home he left in October and a $281 bill for his new Great Neck pad. He also is expecting a $1,700 bill for his storm-ravaged restaurant, Jake’s Wayback Burger, which is in hard-hit Long Beach and remains without power. “I can’t get LIPA to acknowledge my existence on earth to talk to me about anything,” he ranted. “But I guess they had power, so they could print my bills. Nice, right?” Saporta, 33, moved to the Great Neck home on Oct. 1 and got the bill in the mail on Wednesday for a cycle covering 43 days — including the two weeks he spent in the dark following the Oct. 29 storm. Even though he switched his account to the new address on Sept. 26, he still received an e-mail bill for the Long Beach house on Nov. 10 — and somehow it was $390 more than the previous month. “I am not paying any of my bills, that much I promise,” said Saporta. “They can put me into collections, and I’ll fight them tooth-and-nail. “It’s simply criminal.” Michael Hilferty, 29, an attorney from Long Beach, was e-mailed his bill — which was about a dollar more than the previous month — as he chowed down on some turkey. “To get this message on Thanksgiving was crass and classless. It’s just heartless,” he said. His oceanfront building was flooded with 7 feet of water and inundated with 4 feet of sand, covering the LIPA meters. Hilferty left the apartment, which remains dark and boarded up, and has been staying in Connecticut. Yet he was hit for 29 days of electric usage, including delivery and system charges. David Wasserman, 40, of Merrick, tried to report online the difference between his actual and estimated electric usage. “I got some message that said, ‘Service records show your usage would be higher. Please call an operator for further assistance,’ ” he said. “No one ever picked up.” LIPA did not return repeated calls seeking comment. Con Ed, on the other hand, wants to refund its Manhattan customers who lost power $3 and customers from other boroughs who lost power $6, the utility proposed this week in a filing with the Public Service Commission. Those figures represent a portion of customers’ fixed monthly bills, which exclude power usage. This is just ridiculous. SMH Images via tumblr

GTFOHWTBS!! Nicki’s Blaming Walmart For Whack Azz Sales Of ‘The Re-Up’ Album

See there’s this thing called iTunes… but apparently Nicki thinks all of her sales come from Walmart customers. Whining about the busted sales of her repackaged, old azz material, Nicki’s throwing stores like Best Buy, Target, and Walmart under the bus. According to The Huffington Post , Nicki admits that the re-release wasn’t even carried by some retailers: When asked in an interview with Power 105.1 if it was hard to purchase “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up,” Minaj responded, “It is hard to get the album because the stores basically said that the last few re-releases they had put out did not do well and they didn’t want to take a chance. So, Target and Walmart is not selling the album. Target is actually my biggest retailer — they’ve always been my biggest retailer. They’ve sold the most Nicki Minaj albums ever, so, thank you, Target. But I wish you could’ve sold this one.” Minaj continued, “Best Buy only took limited because they’re like ‘Oh no, we want to play it safe,’ so it’s very difficult and it kind of sets you up to fail.” The singer’s second album, “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded,” debuted at number one on Billboard with 253,000 copies sold in the album’s first week. The re-release, “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up” hit stores on Nov. 19. “At the end of the day, I was happy I was able to put the music out,” Minaj said. Maybe it’s the quality that’s effecting your sales? Just sayin’. Images via WENN

Catch Fade: Gabriel “K-Fraudy” Aubry And Olivier Martinez Hospitalized After Bone-Breaking Brawl At Halle Berry’s Crib!!

Now boys… Gabriel Aubry And Olivier Martinez Arrested And Hospitalized After Fight At Halle Berry’s Home According to TMZ reports : Gabriel Aubry was arrested Thanksgiving morning after a melee at Halle Berry’s house, which sent both Gabriel and Halle’s fiance Olivier Martinez to the hospital … TMZ has learned. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ … Gabriel showed up at Halle’s doorstep with Nahla for a custodial hand-off. We’re told Gabriel was inside the house when Olivier walked up to him and said, “We have to move on.” According to witnesses, Gabriel then pushed Olivier and threw a punch at his face, but Olivier blocked it and the punch struck him in the shoulder instead. We’re told Gabriel then pushed Olivier to the ground, and Olivier cold-cocked him in the face, and a struggle ensued, ending with Olivier pinning Gabriel to the ground. In the struggle, Gabriel suffered a broken rib, contusions on his face, and possibly a more serious head injury. Olivier may have broken his hand and suffered neck injuries as well. There are conflicting accounts as to whether Gabriel was rendered unconscious in the fight. Furthermore… Police were called and Olivier made a citizen’s arrest for battery against Gabriel. Gabriel was escorted to the ER and, ironically, Olivier went to the same ER an hour later. The two were just down the hall from each other. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ … a judge has issued an emergency protective order, which requires Gabriel to stay 100 yards away from Halle, Olivier, and Nahla. And finally, there’s this … specifics about the argument between Gabriel and Olivier are sketchy because they were trash talking each other in French. It’s pretty shocking — considering Gabriel was out with Nahla just last night for a movie date at the Grove. According to the latest update, Gabriel Aubry has been released from the hospital and is currently in jail facing charges. Welp Halle, happy thanksgiving, all your fawkery and shenanigans have finally come to a head. How ya feel? Check back with Bossip as more details emerge!
