Cheesa Covers Whitney Houston, Performs "I Have Nothing" on The Voice

Facing The Voice’s instant elimination round , Cheesa knew she had to make an impression that lasted with coach Cee Lo Green, his fellow panelists, and America. Her courageous performance of Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” did just that. It earned a standing ovation from Christina Aguilera, who’s been surprisingly hard to please at times this season. “That is a beloved song,” the coach said. “Those are huge shoes to fill and you still managed to do you own thing. I loved it.” Cheesa – I Have Nothing (The Voice Audition) Do you agree with Christina? Cee Lo did, at least to the point where James Massone got the boot and Cheesa lived to sing another day. Will she survive tonight? That’s up to the viewers of The Voice. The top vote-getter among Cee Lo’s remaining three team members will advance, with the coach picking the other semifinalist.

The Voice Battle Round: Geoff McBride vs. Sera Hill

The fun Battle Rounds are back for a second week on The Voice! Things got emotional and downright gritty this week, and in the first matchup on Monday night, Sera Hill did her best to overwhelm Geoff McBride from the get-go. Geoff sounded sharp both in his practice and the battle itself, and she went on to miss a pretty big note on “Chain of Fools,” so it was far from a runaway. Christina Aguilera gave it to Sera. Do you agree with that call? Geoff McBride and Sera Hill – Chain of Fools (The Voice Battle Round)

The Voice Battle Round: Kim Yarbrough vs. Whitney Myer

In a Battle Round matchup on The Voice Monday evening, Kim Yarbrough squared off with Whitney Myer, who sounded off at the start, but then really got things going. She never could compete with Kim’s voice or pure stage presence, however, so it looked as though she was done from the start. Such is life in a sudden-death duet. Kim wasn’t too much of an opportunity to really showcase her voice, even, but she did the best with what she had, and the two did sound pretty strong as a pair. In the end, Adam Levine chose Kim to advance. The right call? Watch: Kim Yarbrough and Whitney Myer – No More Drama (The Voice Battle Round)

The Voice Recap: Blind Auditions, Take Four

It’s episode four of The Voice’s blind auditions, with Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton back in their red-spinning spaceship chairs yet again. How much fun is this show? American Idol likes to tout its star-creating power, and The Voice may not have an answer to that until it produces its own Kelly Clarkson … or even a Scotty McCreery. Still, it remains a far more entertaining show in many respects, from the diversity of the vocalists trying out, to the rapport between the judges and the unique format.

American Idol Judges Diss The Voice, Weigh in on Male Champions

Oh, it is on between American Idol and The Voice . During their panel discussion at yesterday’s Television Critics Association winter press tour session, judges Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler left little doubt that they don’t care much for NBC’s singing competition, which gets underway on February 5. Among the disses lobbed at The Voice by this trio and/or Fox executives: “It’s a compliment to Idol. We’re not hiring a lot of people from The Voice to be on our show.” – Fox reality president Mike Darnell on Kelly Clarkson joining The Voice as a mentor “It was almost like second chance people; it wasn’t some new artist.” – Randy Jackson on The Voice champion Javier Colon having had a contract with Capitol Records

Beverly McClellan Discusses Improbable Run on The Voice, Next Career Moves

“I’m a mixture of blues and rock with a shot of Southern Comfort.” – Beverly McClellan The openly lesbian, bald rocker who made it all the way to the finals of NBC’s The Voice calls herself a Janis Joplin-Melissa Etheridge-Etta James hybrid. That’s quite a statement, but the Florida native proved with her recent run on the reality hit that she’s got the vocal chops to make such a bold claim. Excerpts from Beverly’s interview with TV Line this week … Beverly McClellan and Christina Aguilera – Beautiful On her reaction to success on The Voice : “Where the hell did the rock and roll go? Epic moments were made: We need those again. I have no fear.” “I’m a bit of a rebel, a kid that never grew up. I feel like I’m finally, for once in my life, where I need to be, showing the right people, even if it’s not something I planned on doing: Come out here and get famous.” “I thought, “S***, I have just as much chance as anyone else.” Am I blown away that I came this far? Yeah. But I don’t want to slow the train down.” On making the finals (finishing right behind Dia Frampton and Javier Colon ) as an openly gay singer : “Listen, dude, we’ve got to be the change we want to see. I have to set that precedent for myself.” “I can lay down at night and think, ‘Wow. I did everything in a way that I can live with myself.’ And the children are our future: How can we show them a different way if we don’t continue it with every step we take?” “Doesn’t mean you can’t have fun and be a bit of a rebel, but break the right rules. There are the ones that need to be broken. I’ve never not lived out loud, and I’ve known my sexuality since a young age – kindergarten, really.” Beverly McClellan – Piece Of My Heart (On The Voice) On her blind audition: “Honey, I didn’t go out there set for them to not turn around: I went out there with the Sword of Troy. I was singing so hard my veins were popping out of my head, and I could see the spit slinging from my mouth.” “And just in that split instant I saw Christina and Adam turn around, and I was like, ‘Oh, it’s on now.’ [ Laughs .] Of course I had to go with Christina: Why freaking not? She sings her face off. She’s an icon.” The Voice Battle Round – Beverly McClellan vs. Justin Grennan On the battle round with Justin Grennan : “We sat and we practiced. And it was royally wonderful. So at the end of the day it was just a matter if they wanted shrimp or chicken, because they’re both awesome.” America needs to watch out, ’cause they’re not even ready for what’s coming to them: Beverly McClellan, Vicci Martinez, Emily Valentine, Tyler Robinson, Kelsey Rey, and so many other folks from The Voice . And the list goes on. On what’s next : “Everything! America needs to watch out, ’cause they’re not even ready for what’s coming to them: Beverly McClellan, Vicci Martinez, Emily Valentine, Tyler Robinson, Kelsey Rey, and so many other folks from The Voice .”
