John Carter. He’s more than just the doctor portrayed by Noah Wyle on ER . He’s also a Civil War veteran and the title character of an action flick headed for a theater near you in 2012. As detailed in this morning’s edition of The Broadsheet , Hollywood went remake crazy while you were sleeping, with planned relaunches of Lethal Weapon , Westworld , The Wild Bunch and Annie all presumably coming to a theater near you in the next five years. Nothing there should inherently surprise you — this is Hollywood after all, where announcing remakes is otherwise known as a weekday — but it’s still a bit demoralizing. With that in mind, let’s remoralize! (Invented word!) Ahead, Movieline offers 15 duos who might make the planned relaunch of Lethal Weapon almost tolerable. Suggestions welcome.

Jessica Alba took the night off from her fiery culinary adventures to join the rest of the Tribeca Film Festival’s random jurors on awards night. The festival handed out more than $150,000 in cash prizes to an international array of filmmakers, with the German entry When We Leave picking up the top narrative award and additional hardware for best actress Sibel Kekilli. The superb relationship drama-surveillance thriller (really!) Monogamy won the prize for Best New York Narrative; watch for it if/when it comes to a festival/theater near you.
