Brad Pitt does it all. He acts. He has kids with Angelina Jolie . He looks handsome even with that absurd hair. And after a screening of his new film the Cary Grant Theatre in Culver City, Calif., he even helped out a distraught man at a Q&A session with fans. According to an attendee, a 30-something struggling actor announced to Pitt, Moneyball co-star Jonah Hill and the crowd that he was considering suicide. What did Pitt say? “It turned into a very awkward moment,” the attendee says, adding that the 47-year-old actor got “choked up” as he revealed his own battles to the crowd. But Pitt didn’t flinch . “He said, ‘Look, man, life is up and down, it’s a vicious cycle, but you have to go through it and deal with that,'” the observer reveals. “‘You can be down, but then you come back up again, and every failure can lead to success.'” “It was touching. As he left the theater he even stopped to talk with the guy to offer him some more words of encouragement because he was so fragile.” What more is there to say beyond: How cool is Brad Pitt?! We caught up with the ‘Game of Shadows’ stars and director Guy Ritchie on London set of the detective sequel. By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law Photo: MTV News It’s one thing to breathe new life into a literary icon. Robert Downey Jr. , Jude Law and director Guy Ritchie did that two years ago with “Sherlock Holmes,” a quasi-Steampunk take on Arthur Conan Doyle’s legendary detective. The real challenge comes when you have to do it again. The trio are set to give it another go on December 16, when the sequel, “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” hits theaters. MTV News’ Josh Horowitz traveled all the way to the London set of the film to talk to Downey, Law and Ritchie about recreating the magic of the first film and just why Holmes and Watson make for such compelling characters. We also discovered there was consensus among the three men about the approach for this film: bigger. “I’m too close to be objective about this now, but originally when we were constructing this conceptually, we just wanted to make it bigger,” Ritchie said. “We wanted to make it bigger and better, and I’m not sure if you can be more eloquent than that.” Ritchie told us that with the first movie out of the way, he “knows the identity” of the films better than ever and can take everything to the next level. “I supposed I stuck my toe in the water creatively on the last one. I’m probably a little bit more confident about who these guys are,” he said. In “Game of Shadows,” the action jumps into the future a bit, taking place more than a few months after the first film. Watson has moved out of 221 Baker Street, and Holmes is in tough shape and deeply obsessed with one of literature’s greatest villains, Professor James Moriarty, played in the new film by Jared Harris . No reimagining of Holmes would be complete without a take on his arch-nemesis, and Ritchie said that Harris is up to the task. “I’m not saying this because it’s what directors are supposed to say, but I do believe Jared is a fantastic Moriarty, and you are dealing with arguably the most infamous villain in the history of literature, so it’s no mean feat.” For the two heroes of the story, Downey and Law said they could endlessly revisit Holmes and Watson. Asked why, Downey got straight to the point. “The money and the merch!” he laughed Taking a more serious note, Law explained that it’s the chemistry between the two characters that will always be fascinating. “They’re just interesting. They’re very, very interesting. The dynamic is always fresh,” Law said. The pair is so dynamic, in fact, that it’s often hard to tell what kind of reaction a scene between them will elicit. “We’ve done stuff which we’re cracking up over and we think is so funny, and we watch it back over and in fact, it’s very touching,” Law said. “We think, ‘Where did that come from?’ And vice versa, we’ll do stuff we’re desperately trying to make this heartfelt moment, and it’s nothing short of broad and really funny.” “It’s a discovery process,” Downey agreed. ‘As soon as Taylor ripped off his shirt, we all tried to yell as much as possible,’ he laughs to MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jackson Rathbone Photo: MTV News In addition to the whole fame-and-fortune package that comes with being a member of the “Twilight” cast, one of the additional benefits is that you get to see the finished film before anyone else. When MTV News caught up with “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” star Jackson Rathbone recently, we asked him to talk about his first-time viewing experience. “I got a nice little private screening,” Rathbone said. “There were about six [castmembers] in the theater. I was saying, ‘This is what it would be like watching “Twilight” if no one liked it,’ ” he joked. “If it had failed, that’s exactly what it would have been like: six people in the theater.” In all seriousness, however, Rathbone said he and his co-stars had a lot of fun watching the film together and interacting with the screen. “As soon as Taylor [Lautner] ripped off his shirt, we all tried to yell as much as possible to supplement the lack of little teenage girls [screaming],” he said. “It was fun. We had a good time with it. Nikki [Reed] and I were making fun of each other the whole movie. Any time one of us would come onscreen, we’d poke each other,” he said with a laugh. In addition to those swoon-worthy shirtless moments, Lautner has promised us that we’ll be shedding some tears. “You are going to face a lot of emotions, definitely,” he teased. “You are going to be angry. I guarantee you [that] you will cry multiple times.” Tonight, join MTV.com live from the “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” red-carpet premiere as we talk to your favorite stars about all things “Twilight”! Co-director Ariel Schulman warned audience that nobody would be able to sleep after seeing film. By Kevin P. Sullivan Lauren Bittner in Paranormal Activity 3 Photo: Paramount Pictures It’s not often that you see people standing for hours in a line that wraps around the block just for the chance to get scared out of their minds, but that’s exactly what happened Tuesday night in New York at an advance fan screening of “Paranormal Activity 3.” Fans tweeted for a chance to check out the third entry in the found-footage horror series and to learn how the haunting started. Some of the hopeful audience members showed up as early as the morning before the 10 p.m. screening. Once inside the theater, the lucky crowd competed for prizes like iPods, only heightening the excitement in the room. When it was finally time to screen the movie, directors Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost showed up, appropriately decked out for Halloween with fake knives and syringes lodged in each of their heads. Schulman warned people that they weren’t ready for the scares in “Paranormal Activity 3,” promising that nobody in the theater was going to sleep that night. Among chants of “P-A-3,” the lights dimmed and the screams started, and they didn’t stop for 84 minutes. As soon as the screening ended, the fan reaction was clear. “I thought ‘Paranormal Activity’ was tuck-your-feet-under-the-blanket horrifying,” said Jeffrey Caban, who claimed his heart was still racing. Nelson Rosa said he understood “the saying ‘my heart skipped a beat’ [for the] first time ever.” “It was intense. It had me screaming, jumping up and down, covering my eyes, everything,” Maria Huighes said. Are you excited for “Paranormal Activity 3”? Let us know in the comments below and on Twitter !
