Dr. Dre’s Detox Not Due April 20, Rep Says

A rep for rapper/producer says viral video isn’t referring to long-awaited album’s release date. By Jayson Rodriguez Dr. Dre Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage After a video went viral of Dr. Dre seemingly announcing an April 20 release date for his long-awaited Detox, a rep for the rapper/producer told MTV News that the clip wasn’t referring to the album’s arrival. So what was the legendary producer referring to in the clip? That remains unclear at press time. Dr. Dre has been at work on his highly anticipated LP for years now, scraping together several versions of the songs at various times; in one case, he gave several beats slated for his project to 50 Cent for the G-Unit superstar’s debut album. In November, Dre’s first single, “Kush,” hit the Web and was soon followed by a potential follow-up, the Eminem-assisted “I Need a Doctor.” A month later, Dre premiered the video for “Kush” featuring Snoop Dogg and Akon. The clip, along with a cover story in the latest issue of hip-hop magazine XXL, seemed to confirm that the rap Chinese Democracy was finally slated for release. The producer’s penchant for perfectionism has long been the reason for the delay of Detox, which will be Dre’s first album since his 2001 LP in 1999. “[I’m] trying to put it out by the end of the fall,” Dre said in an interview this past summer about Detox. “Trying to give everybody what they’ve been waitin’ for and make sure they’re not disappointed; that’s all I’m doing.” What do you think Dre was referring to in the viral video? ‘A World Without Dioramas’: Community Recapped

Community has gotten to the point where every critic on the Internet will bend over backward to give the show glowing praise. As Emily Nussbaum just wrote on Twitter, “I laughed at literally every line of that episode of Community . Exhaustingly excellent.” Well, that’s one way to put it. Another way would be to say that while funny, “Conspiracy Theories and Soft Defenses” was a pale imitation of an Arrested Development episode, with a B-story that might as well have been left to an online deleted scene. Annie might have had a gun, but Community fired some blanks last night.

Sofia Coppola Calls ‘Breaking Dawn’ Love Story ‘So Romantic’

‘I’m impressed by Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattison pulling it off,’ director says, confirming she was in talks to helm the ‘Twilight’ finale. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Sofia Coppola Photo: MTV News While the “Breaking Dawn” director’s chair for both parts 1 and 2 is officially occupied by Bill Condon, “Twilight” fans know that there were several other high-profile names attached to the project before Condon signed on. Among them was “Lost in Translation” and “Marie Antoinette” director Sofia Coppola. When we caught up with the writer/director to discuss her upcoming Chateau Marmont-set film, “Somewhere,” we asked her if there was any truth to the “Dawn” director rumors. “Yeah, yeah, I talked to them about that,” Coppola revealed to MTV News. “I was interested in doing something but I didn’t end up doing it. But I love, I’m impressed by Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattison pulling it off in that whole story,” she said. “And my friend’s kids love the story so much that I thought it would be fun to make something that they love so much.” Asked what she liked best about the blockbuster vampire franchise, Coppola admitted she goes weak in the knees for romance. “I just love that it’s so romantic,” she told us. “I’m always a sucker for a love story and also to do something for teenagers, because I feel like, why not have beautiful cinematography and all these things in a kid movie? Usually it looks like it’s not crafted very sophisticated, and I feel like it’d be nice to bring that kind of style into a younger film.” Perhaps the studio heads can line up Coppola for the talked-about film version of the “Eclipse” novella, “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner” ? ‘True Blood’ Finale Will Have ‘Blood And Bite,’ Stars Say

‘I’d say it’s crazier than last year’s finale,’ one castmember teases. By Kara Warner “True Blood” stars Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin Photo: MTV News There are approximately five days and counting until the third season of HBO’s bloody vamp soap “True Blood” comes to a close. And if the last two season finales are any indication, regardless of any spoilers or speculation that pre-empt Sunday’s episode, we expect that creator Alan Ball will provide us with enough titillating twists and turns to keep us champing at the bit for season four. So until this week’s inevitable cliffhanger and finale overanalyzing, we bring you a few juicy teaser tidbits straight from the stars themselves. “I can tell you that there’s going to be a lot of blood, a lot of sex, and a lot of people are going to die,” Joe Manganiello told MTV News at HBO’s Emmy bash last week. “Blah, blah, blah, vampire stuff.” Will his crazy ex-girlfriend, Debbi Pelt, survive the episode? “That would be a good question for Alan [Ball],” Manganiello said. Deftly deflected, Joe. Fan favorite Nelsan Ellis (a.k.a. Lafayette) agreed about the blood factor. “There’s going to be a lot of blood and bite,” Ellis said. “I’d say it’s crazier than last year’s finale,” Jim Parrack (sweet-as-pie Hoyt Fortenberry) added. “Wilder than last year’s.” Todd Lowe, who plays PTSD-suffering war vet Terry, shared some insight into what his character will be up to. “You’ll probably see some more tears,” Lowe revealed. “And we’ll see where they’re coming from.” Arlene? A possible war flashback? As for Pam, the saucy queen of killer one-liners, actress Kristin Bauer shared that her character will be in the midst of a fight — both physical and emotional. “For Pam, the next two episodes, she’s trying — she’s in an emotional battle and a physical battle trying to save Eric. It’s quite something,” she said. “There are some twists and turns that happen. It’s really clever.” Marshall Alman’s summary wins the award for most succinct tease: “I can tell you that Tommy definitely gives Sam a run for his money.” Meanwhile, Kevin Alejandro wins the award for juiciest tidbit. “You actually find out what kind of person I am,” he said of his character, Jesus. “It’s good stuff.” Regarding his reaction to finding out his character’s new “arc,” Alejandro said it was cool. “I’ve never done anything like it. I kinda knew a little bit about it beforehand, so it’s fun,” he explained. “[I did] a lot of research to figure out how to go this route, but it’s good stuff. I think you’ll be really impressed and surprised.” Finally, the award for most vague tease goes to series stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer. “Lots of stuff [happens]!” Paquin exclaimed. “Some great Eric and Bill moments,” Moyer added. “We’re not supposed to tell you.” Paquin echoed Moyer’s statement, adding that they’d prefer to keep their jobs rather than spoil or reveal any secrets. Good for them; too bad for us. What do you think will happen in the “True Blood” season finale? Share your theories in the comments!

Research finds repressed memories don’t exist

The idea that traumatised people, especially the victims of child sexual abuse, deliberately repress horrific memories goes all the way back to the 19th century and the theories of Sigmund Freud himself. But now some experts are saying the evidence points the other way. Professor Grant Devilly, from Griffith University's Psychological Health research unit, says the memory usually works in the opposite way, with traumatised people reliving experiences they would rather forget. “It's the opposite. They wish they couldn't think about it,” he said. In a briefing to the US Supreme Court, Professor Richard McNally from Harvard University described the theory of repressed memory as “the most pernicious bit of folklore ever to infect psychology and psychiatry”. He maintains false memories can easily be created by inept therapists. added by: ozoneocean

Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray Didn’t Give Fatal Dose, Lawyer Says

Ed Chernoff claims someone else, or Jackson himself, could have administered deadly amount of propofol. By Gil Kaufman Dr. Conrad Murray Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images In a hint of the strategy he’s prepping for the upcoming trial of Dr. Conrad Murray n the death of Michael Jackson , the lawyer for the late pop icon’s personal physician said his client did not deliver a fatal dose of the surgical anesthetic propofol to the singer. As fans gather around the world to pay tribute on the one-year anniversary of Jackson’s death , attorney Ed Chernoff told CNN that his client, who has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the case, said it’s possible that someone else administered the propofol or that Jackson did it himself. “There is no way that Dr. Murray pumped Michael Jackson full of propofol sufficient for major surgery,” Chernoff said, reacting to an autopsy report that said the level of he powerful anesthetic found in Jackson was equal to what would be used to sedate a patient for major surgery. “No way. I would stake anything that I own on this fact.” The Los Angeles County coroner ruled that Jackson’s death on June 25, 2009, was a result of an overdose of propofol, a drug the singer reportedly used in combination with other sedatives in order to combat chronic insomnia. Murray was hired to be Jackson’s personal physician, at a rate of $150,000 a month, during the rehearsals for the singer’s 50-date This Is It series of comeback shows at London’s O2 arena. The cardiologist has admitted to administering propofol to Jackson as a sleep aid, but Chernoff said it was in much smaller doses than what was found in Jackson’s body during the autopsy. If Murray did not administer the fatal dose, other theories include that another unidentified person entered the singer’s room while Murray was not present gave Jackson a larger dose, or that Jackson woke from fitful sleep and gave it to himself. But an anesthesia expert hired by the coroner appeared to dismiss the notion that Jackson may have accidentally killed himself with propofol. “It would have been difficult for the patient to administer the drugs to himself, given the configuration of the IV setup,” the expert wrote in the autopsy report. Chernoff, who must only convince a jury that there is reasonable doubt that his client contributed to Jackson’s death, seized on those possibilities in the CNN interview. “The coroner’s report deemed it to be unlikely, because it would be difficult, so I’m assuming they’ve addressed that situation and that’s what they believe, but is it possible?” he asked. “Absolutely, it’s possible.” Chernoff said Murray left behind two successful medical practices in Houston and Las Vegas to work for Jackson and that the doctor had no idea what he was signing up for when he agreed to the gig. “Did Dr. Murray know that ‘when I get onboard treating Michael Jackson, that I’m going to have to deal with this drug propofol?’ No,” Chernoff said, noting that Murray knew Jackson suffered from insomnia but not that he used propofol as a sleep aid. He claimed that Murray attempted to wean Jackson off the anesthetic, alarmed that the singer was using such a powerful surgical drug for that purpose. It’s unclear where Murray was in the 90 minutes before Jackson was found unresponsive, with phone records showing he made three calls totaling around 47 minutes during that time and the doctor telling investigators that he only left Jackson’s side for “two minutes maximum” to use the restroom during that time. That period is the only time when someone else, or Jackson, could have given the fatal propofol dose. Prosecutors believe the evidence shows that Murray is the only person who could be responsible for Jacksons’ death, but Chernoff believes a jury will see things differently. “We get a fair jury and we are able to afford just some of the necessary experts and investigators then, yes, the doctor is going to win,” he predicted. “Whatever the doctor did for Michael Jackson, whatever he did, was to help, and he took the necessary precautions and then something happened that is unexplainable.” Murray has pleaded not guilty to the manslaughter charges, and a preliminary hearing in the case is slated for late August. MTV will be remembering the life and music of Michael Jackson all weekend. Don’t miss the one-hour special “Michael Jackson’s Influence on Music,” airing Friday at 6:30 p.m. on MTV. ‘Bones’ Finale Brings Some ‘Big Changes,’ Emily Deschanel Says

‘Things are very different,’ Deschanel says of season-five finale. By Jocelyn Vena Emily Deschanel Photo: MTV News “Bones” is set to end its fifth season Thursday night (May 20), and the show’s female lead, Emily Deschanel, said there are big changes about to go down at the Jeffersonian — which means someone might be leaving the institution. Deschanel said she’s all for the show’s shakeups. “Our season finale is about a hoarder who is buried alive under his own hoardings. He’s murdered and then trapped under his own piles of paper and such,” Deschanel told MTV News earlier this week. “And [Deschanel’s character Temperance ‘Bones’] Brennan is questioning the whole murder business.” Deschanel said Brennan wonders how much longer she can deal with solving horrific murders. “It’s taking a toll on her, so big changes are made at the end of the season,” she teased. “And those changes affect many characters going into the next season. Things are very different.” Fans will likely be surprised by the changes, but the star said it will ultimately make it a more interesting show for them, as well as for the characters. “I like them. I think they’re appropriate,” she said of the adjustments. “I think they’re right for the characters. It’s a good way to progress the story in a way we haven’t before.” Of course, fans always wonder if Bones and Booth, played by David Boreanaz , will ever finally get together romantically. Deschanel said there’s a chance it will happen — someday. “I do see that happening for the two of them. I can’t tell you when, but I do see them getting together and seeing Booth and Brennan as a couple sometime in the future,” she said, adding, “It’s a debate between fans [if they should end up together].” What do you hope goes down on the “Bones” season finale? ‘Fringe’ Finale Is A ‘Tug-Of-War Between Two Universes,’ Stars Say

‘You have to watch the last five minutes … and that will tell you a lot,’ Joshua Jackson says of the episode. By Jocelyn Vena Fans are eagerly anticipating the season finale of “Fringe” on Thursday night (May 20). With a rift in the Bishop clan, the entire crew trying to save the world from an alternate dimension and the possibility that Peter is the key to the end of the world, anything is possible. John Noble and Joshua Jackson, who play the Bishop father/son combo, said the show’s final few minutes will really leave fans shocked. “You have to watch the last five minutes … and that will tell you a lot,” Jackson revealed earlier this week to MTV News. Noble said that even he isn’t sure if Peter (Jackson) is the key to saving or destroying the universes. “It’s only Walter surmising that that’s the case, so science, as we know it now, would suggest that unless we do something rapidly, it could happen,” he said. “But it won’t happen, because we have a story to tell, and being very inventive people, we will find a way to get past that problem. “The interesting thing about ‘Fringe’ is, the only character that doesn’t change is Peter,” he continued. “Peter is the constant, and this season we’ve been talking about Peter a lot. … It’s all been building. When Walter said in the last episode [that Peter] could be responsible for the end of the world, it’s actually about Peter. So we have this tug-of-war between two universes for this character, and I play both dads.” Fans, however, wonder when the rift between the Bishop men will eventually mend. “Isn’t that the foundation of a good story? Isn’t the whole point that they never get to the end of the story until the show is off the air? But that’s what family is too,” Jackson said. “We were making progress. We become closer together. Circumstances, like being from an alternate universe, come and tear you apart and then slowly repair.” What do you think will happen on the “Fringe” season finale? Green Day Say ‘American Idiot’ Musical Is ‘In Your Face’

‘It’s a record that’s coming to life,’ frontman Billie Joe Armstrong tells MTV News. By James Montgomery Billie Joe Armstrong at “American Idiot” on Broadway Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images They’ve already promised that the Broadway version of their American Idiot album isn’t going to be “a rated-PG affair,” but now Green Day are taking it one step further, telling their fans why they should make their way to New York to catch the musical. “I think it’s the same reason why you would want to go see a band play live, you know? It’s a record that’s coming to life, it’s in your face, and it’s a story. You’re seeing a good movie,” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said. “It’s a great story, and it’s going to move you. … That’s what American Idiot does. That’s what it does in the music, and that’s what it’s going to do onstage.” And based on early accounts, Armstrong is right. The stage version of “Idiot” doesn’t officially open until Tuesday at the St. James Theatre, but the band — and director Michael Mayer — have been tinkering with it in rehearsals since last month. And with an A-list cast of actors, a bombastic soundtrack (which features songs from Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown and a couple of Green Day B-sides) and a book that doesn’t shy away from the political or the personal, it’s already looking like an explosive show — the kind of thing that very well may turn Broadway on its ear. Make no mistake about it, this isn’t your parents’ musical. It’s something new, something controversial, which is yet another reason Green Day want you to see it. After all, they’re hoping to change your entire worldview. Or at least shove you off the couch. “You know, it is real life,” bassist Mike Dirnt said. “There is a saying that if theater is life and movies are entertainment, then television is furniture.” Will you head to New York to see “American Idiot”?
