There’s earthquakes, violent storms, people starving, and schools failing left and right, but some people are spending their money on…Snazzy Nappers??? Snazzy Napper is a travel blanket that blocks light — and your snoring face — when you nap in public. It’s an easy product to lampoon and dismiss. And Lord knows I’m not above having a little fun with the occasional As Seen On TV dud. But call me crazy (and you won’t be the first), I like this travel wrap because it does exactly what it promises: It’s Snazzy – the extra large is navy blue with a cascade of Zzzzzz; and it lets you nap in comfort and in private (sorta). Silly Sight Of course, some of you might will feel idiotic tying Snazzy around your head, covering lids with its padded eye mask and breathing through its nose hole. But I didn’t mind, and neither did people surrounding me during holiday layovers and flights to Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, Detroit and D.C. My fellow travelers didn’t seem to notice, no less laugh at my burka-like throw. There’s a lot of public sleeping on trains, planes and buses — and most of it isn’t pretty. Travelers routinely cover eyes with black satin masks, throw blankets over heads, fold arms over bellies while ribbons of drool fall from their mouths. Snazzy Napper hides unsightly slumber. And it’s surprisingly comfy. God help us all if this thing takes off like the Snuggie did. Is it just us or does this thing look like a good way to get robbed? ‘I try to invent and reinvent,’ Hans Zimmer tells MTV News at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Hans Zimmer attends the 2011 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards Photo: MTV News With the momentum from the incredible success of Christopher Nolan’s first two “Batman” films, “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight,” the mounting pressure and fan demand for details on the forthcoming “The Dark Knight Rises,” seems to increase every day. One need only glance at MTV News’ recent compilation of “Rises” rumors to see how creative people can be, as well as how thirsty fans are for answers. It’s just difficult to get them — even when we find ourselves face-to-face with credible sources — but any news is good news, even in the form of a “yes,” “no” or “maybe.” Case in point: Oscar-winning film composer Hans Zimmer, who composed the “Batman Begins” and “Dark Knight” scores and will finish up Nolan’s trilogy by composing the score for “The Dark Knight Rises.” When we caught up with Zimmer on the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards red carpet, we tried our darndest to get some “Rises” music scoop by tossing him a softball question: Has Nolan already involved Zimmer in the plans for the film? “Yes,” Zimmer said with a smile. “And that’s all I’m going to say.” So he knows the arc of the story and the villains, etc.? “Possibly,” he said. “I’m thinking, I’m working, and I can’t tell you anything more.” We pushed just a bit, asking whether his new score will incorporate themes from the first two “Batman” films and whether he’s thought about how to tie everything together. “Sure, but the thing about Chris and myself is, of course what we try to do is we treat each one with the economy it deserves,” he explained. “I try to invent and reinvent and not just go over old ground. I think that’s the thing that was so exciting for people on ‘The Dark Knight.’ They knew we were doing a ‘Batman’ movie, but they had no idea it was going to be that sort of a ‘Batman’ movie.” So is Zimmer already hard at work on the new themes for the score, even though nothing has been filmed yet? “Could be,” he teased. “Of course. Chris likes working that way, that I can give him music before he starts cutting. So… is it safe to talk about SNL again? While I was trying to get as much sleep as possible in the foxhole that I embedded myself in last night , I got the feeling that a few of you were not quite as happy with Saturday night’s show as I seemed to be. But here’s the thing: In the scorecard I did mention that (the now polarizing) Jeff Bridges was far from the best host of the season and that Saturday was also not the laugh-out-loud funniest show of the season. I’ll admit, perhaps this is a flaw with the scoring system used, but what the Bridges installment had was a plethora of sketches that received a score between six and seven. Bridges had eight “good” sketches and only four “bad.” Put it this way: if every sketch had been given a score of 6.5, it would be the top rated show of the season. Having said all of that, I still very much liked Saturday’s installment. OK, let’s get to the poll.

A hanging statement rather than a question, the unpunctuated title of James L. Brooks’s How Do You Know is an apt reflection of the film’s amble toward a theory, in lieu of an answer. The subject, needless to say, is love: What’s the secret? Is there an algorithm yet? How, when one meets a new person, is it possible to separate emotional temperatures — where circumstance, experience, and need have led each of you to be in that exact moment — and access what true baseline there might be between you? And if it is possible, is it useful? Abandoning analysis for instinct hardly seems like the thing: The rhetoric of instant connections — clicking, chemistry, sparks — feels random and unreliable; the more acquisitive approach — involving checklists, potential, dealbreakers — is bloodless and overdetermined. To be a vampire, and at least have a few clear guidelines about letting the right one in!
