Miley Cyrus Music Video: The Transformation is Complete

She’s worn hooker boots and danced on a stripper poll , all while starring as Hannah Montana and acting like an innocent Disney creation. But Miley Cyrus has officially moved on to the next stage of her career. Just call her Britney Spears 2.0 now. The much-hyped music video for Miley’s “Can’t Be Tamed” has been released online, and we understand why sources warned us awhile ago that it would “blow our minds.” As seen below, Cyrus dons a $25,000 corset. She’s also surrounded by scantily-clad cage dancers, while dressed like a peacock and sitting in a giant nest. Seriously. Said Miley about the racy video: “I wanted it to be something different for a female artist… It’s about explaining the song and living the lyrics.” That’s fine, except the lyrics include: Every guy everywhere just gives me mad attention/Like I’m under inspection/ I always get the 10s/‘Cause I’m built like that. So don’t try to pretend the video isn’t about sex, Miles. Check it out and then weigh in with your thoughts: Can’t Be Tamed What’s our take? While THG has often been critical of Miley for sending a bad message to her young fan base, we’re actually fine with this transformation. We simply take issue with artists that act provocatively one moment, and then play naive the next moment. Don’t be a hypocrite. In this case, Cyrus is clearly make a decision to reach a different audience. More power to her. Now parents know what sort of image she’s sending out and can judge whether her music and movies are appropriate for their children accordingly. What do YOU think? Miley’s video is…

‘Dancing With The Stars’ Pro Says Tabloids Affected Kate Gosselin’s Performance

Tony Dovolani says he and Gosselin read the tabs ‘every single day’ while on the show. By Kelley L. Carter Kate Gosselin and Tony Dovolani Photo: ABC You would think after starring in a reality-TV show and going through a very public divorce, Kate Gosselin would be used to being a favorite tabloid target. But her former “Dancing With the Stars” partner, Tony Dovolani , said the media scrutiny still gets to her, and it even affected her performance before they were eliminated from the show last month. “What surprised me the most about working with her was how much the tabloids attack her. That really shocked me the most,” Dovolani told MTV News at the third-annual George Lopez Celebrity Golf Classic to benefit the Ann and George Lopez Foundation. “There are a lot of untrue stories about her. We read them every single day. It became entertaining. We would laugh at how much stuff people could actually make up. At times, yes, it affected her dancing. When you have a big bull’s-eye on your back as she does, of course it bothers you. It affected me, and it wasn’t directed at me.” Dovolani is convinced that what kept them on the show so long — despite the harsh criticisms they received from judges — was that women connected with Gosselin’s story. “People loved her as a mom,” he said. “Every mom struggles and trying to keep a balance. One kid is a lot, let alone eight.” Now that he and Kate are out, who does Dovolani think is the front-runner in the show? ESPN reporter Erin Andrews. “I love my girl Erin. She’s dancing with my best friend Maks,” he said. “Her personality, her dancing ability, her beauty — everything makes her the front-runner. I think she’s hilarious. I think she’s fantastic and she’s what this show is about.” Who do you think should win this season of “Dancing With the Stars”? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Ricky Martin, Other Latin Celebs Agree: Arizona Sucks!

If you’re a legal immigrant in Arizona, walking down the street with your child, you may now get stopped by the police solely based on the color of your skin. While it seems incomprehensible that such a law could be passed in the United States, it’s a sad fact. It’s also one that Shakira spoke out against yesterday and then actually headed down to Phoenix to discuss in person with the mayor and other locals. Turns out, she isn’t the only celebrity (or American with a conscience) to object to this law. At last night’s Billboard Latin Music Awards, Ricky Martin said the ruling “makes no sense” and then went off on inequality in general: “You are not alone. We are with you. Put a stop to discrimination. Put a stop to hate. Put a stop to racism… Long live love, long live peace.” The singer himself came out of the (obvious) closet last month. A few others on hand also chimed in on the issue. Said Latin Artist of the Year winner, Larry Hernandez: “It’s regrettable that they are discriminating against for the simple fact of looking Latino. It’s not fair. We have to say no to that law.” Meanwhile, at a Phoenix press conference, Arizona native Linda Ronstadt stated: “Mexican-Americans are not going to take this lying down.” It’s a contentious issue, one many Americans don’t understand: this is racial profiling at its worst. Imagine if all African-Americans were detained and searched simply because there are more blacks in the system on drug charges than whites. It’s the same idea. Sound off with your thoughts now!

Lady Gaga Pre-Tapes ‘American Idol’ Performance

‘You’re my little monsters, and you’re the reason we all work so hard for our dreams,’ Gaga said from the stage at the Nokia Theatre. By Eric Ditzian Lady Gaga (file) Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images While the viewing public tuning in to “American Idol” on Wednesday night caught Siobhan Magnus getting the ol’ heave-ho and Rascal Flatts, Shakira and Lady Antebellum taking the stage, one performance at the Nokia Theatre didn’t make it on to the small screen: Lady Gaga’s . After Wednesday evening’s elimination show wrapped, Gaga took over the Nokia to pre-tape an “Idol” performance set to air at a later date. But audience members were still holding steady in their seats, and many have since committed their thoughts and reporting to the Web (stop reading now if you want to experience the Gaga-tude spoiler-free whenever the perf hits the airwaves). By all accounts, it was a predictably massive undertaking, requiring an hour to re-set the stage, the introduction of a giant fire-spewing angel and three full performances of a “Bad Romance”/”Alejandro” medley. “I just want to say thank you,” Gaga told the crowd before launching into the number a third time, according to a write-up on EW.com’s PopWatch blog. “You’re my little monsters, and you’re the reason we all work so hard for our dreams.” The taping got started directly after the end of the live show. The “Idol” crew wheeled on that huge metallic angel, two black metal trees and a few park benches built of bloody razor blades. “[T]he entire set looked like the S&M version of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ meets the cemetery scene from ‘Phantom of the Opera’ populated by half-naked nymphs from ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream,’ ” reported Zap2It.com . The first run-through was Gaga-free — just the band and her backup dancers. Gaga joined in for the second go. “There were eight hard-bodied male dancers scantily clad in what looked to be black Spanx — each guy wore a black glove as well,

Death Cab For Cutie Strive ‘To Make Music We Enjoy’ On New Album

Frontman Ben Gibbard says band’s only motivation these days is to have fun. By James Montgomery Death Cab for Cutie Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images The last time MTV News spoke to Death Cab for Cutie about the status of their new album, guitarist/producer Chris Walla said things were still in the “scratchy, unfinished demos” stage but that the music was already looking to split the difference between the live-and-loose Narrow Stairs and the more polished Plans. So, when we got DCFC frontman Ben Gibbard on the phone last week — to discuss his love of all things Seattle Mariner-y — we asked him for an update on the project. From the sound of things, the focus has sharpened considerably. “We’re going in the studio in June to start working on the record,” Gibbard told MTV News. “We’re going to be recording through the summer and into the fall, and all things being equal, we’re probably looking for a spring 2011 release.” Echoing Walla’s earlier sentiments, Gibbard said that the new Death Cab tunes do seem to be gleaned from a live setting or just a jam session in a room full of friends. “We all live in different cities now, but I strangely feel closer to my bandmates than I ever have before, and I think that as we move forward as a band, our only motivation is to make music that we enjoy, and to make music because it’s fun,” Gibbard said. “All of the accolades that we once hoped for — that we were striving for that were directly outside of the creative process — we’ve met almost all of those goals. So now, for us, it’s more of, ‘Oh, you know, I love hanging out with Chris and Nick and Jason, and talking about music and playing guitar.’ It’s just fun. We’re only doing it because we enjoy it.” And in keeping with that vibe, some of Gibbard’s early favorites for the album came from an informal e-mail he got from Walla that contained a couple of demos the guitarist had been working on purely on a whim. “We’ve had a couple of songs where Chris has sent me music, and I’ve done some arrangements and lyrics and melodies on them, and in the batch of material we’ve got sitting in the coffer ready to go on the record, that to me is the most exciting stuff,” he said. “They were a couple of tunes that he sent me that I’ve kind of finished, I’m really excited about.” More than a decade into their career, with both a platinum-selling album ( Plans ) and a #1 debut ( Narrow Stairs ) under their belts, Death Cab finally feel like they’ve reached a place where they can make the kind of music they want to, without worrying about impressing anyone other than themselves. And that appears to be the driving force behind the new album: complete, hard-won artistic freedom. “I’d like to think a lot of inspiration comes from that being the motivation, rather than, ‘Oh, this is our major-label record, we’ve got to do it great, or else people are going to say this,’ ” Gibbard said. “All those things you never talk about, but they’re all in your mind. So for us now, going into this next record, we’ll assess our accomplishments after we’re done making them, and … I feel like we have a lot more records to make. “We’ve all kind of landed in a place in our lives, personally and professionally, where we can all get together and enjoy each other’s company and enjoy making music,” he reiterated. “I certainly feel a lot more confident as a songwriter and a musician, and confident in the ability of my bandmates to make things that we’d want to listen to ourselves.” What is your favorite Death Cab for Cutie song?
