Steve Jobs Was ‘Tenacious To The Extreme,’ Bono Says

‘I already miss him,’ U2 frontman writes in a statement after Apple co-founder’s death. By Kelley L. Carter Steve Jobs With Bono and The Edge Photo: Getty Images The man who changed the way we listen to music is being mourned by one of the music industry’s leading men. U2 frontman Bono released a statement Thursday (October 6) eulogizing Apple co-founder Steve Jobs as a man who was only interested in doing “truly great things.” “He was bored by an easy ride or easy profit. In a world littered with dull objects, he brought the beauty of clean lines and clear thought,” Bono wrote of Jobs. Bono, who is known almost as much for his philanthropy as he is his music, wrote about how Jobs’ innovation helped support efforts that are close to his heart. Remember Steve Jobs’ many innovations by flipping through this photo gallery. “This rhyme of intellect and intuition could be applied to a wide range of subjects from the US education system, to sculpture, to the fight against HIV/AIDS where his support of (RED) literally transformed the lives of two million people in Africa,” he continued. “He changed music. He changed film. He changed the personal computer and turned telephony on its head while he was at it. He was tenacious in the extreme, his toughness never more evident than these past few years in his fight for his life as well as his companies.” Back in 2004, Apple partnered with U2 to launch a special-edition iPod, which held up to 5,000 songs and featured custom engraving of bandmember signatures. At the time, Jobs — clearly a U2 fan — said in a statement: “U2 is one of the greatest bands in the world and we are floored to be working with them.” Steve Jobs almost singlehandedly brought the music industry into the future — here’s how. Bono also talked in the statement about his personal relationship with Jobs. “Steve told me as proud as he was of Apple and Pixar, his real pride was his family. He was a thoughtful and tender father, and loved nothing more than hanging out in the house with his belle Laurene and the kids,” he said. “I already miss him … one of a very small group of anarchic Americans who through technology literally invented the 21st century. We will all miss the hardware software Elvis.” Steve Jobs changed the world, but how did he change you ? Tell us on Facebook. Related Photos The Steve Jobs Legacy Related Artists Bono

‘Dancing With The Stars’: J.R. Martinez Brings The Tears

Ricki Lake nabs the season’s highest score so far with emotional rumba. By Kelley L. Carter Karina Smirnoff and J.R. Martinez Photo: ABC Networks Monday night’s “Dancing With the Stars” evoked emotion from most of the contestants. The third round of performances challenged the celebrities to dance to a song of their choosing that reflected the most memorable year in their lives. There were many moist eyes in the audience as people heard stories of tragedy and heartbreak that were close to the hearts of this year’s cast. Former talk-show host Ricki Lake scored the night’s highest scores, once again impressing the judges with her technique and execution. Here’s how everyone fared: Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke The reality star danced the foxtrot to Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon” in memory of his father, O.J. Simpson attorney Robert Kardashian Sr., and the judges found it to be very emotional. Said head judge Len Goodman: “You just put the dash into Kardashian, I’m telling you! Posture was good. Footwork was good. I hope your dad is looking down and saying, ‘Rob, you did good,’ because you did.” 24/30 Chynna Phillips and Tony Dovolani Phillips picked the moment in her life when she was sobering up and danced to “Hold On,” a song she sang with her group Wilson Phillips that she says is therapeutic for her. In her rehearsal, she cried and had a few breakdowns but said she hoped people would see in her rumba routine (and the song’s message, of course) that there was always a way out. “I knew you could do it. You are a smoldering siren. Seductive, intriguing, stylish, always so expressive. You belong in a museum to admire, my dear,” said judge Bruno Tonioli. They scored the first pair of 9’s of the season. 26/30 Chaz Bono and Lacey Schwimmer Bono was charged with dancing the rumba, and he picked a song that his dad, Sonny Bono, wrote, called “Laugh With Me.” Bono, who is the competition’s first transgender contestant, said this was his best year ever and the song meant a lot and is about being a different kind of man. The judges didn’t think Bono kept focus during the dance but praised his willingness to come back week after week in spite of being heavily criticized for his dancing skills. “Every time I watch you get out on this dance floor, I’m so impressed by your real courage,” Carrie Ann Inaba offered. “Because what you do just by showing up here takes incredible amounts of courage. I’m always touched by that. Tonight you looked really distracted. You seemed not quite focused into the dance. I felt like you didn’t dance enough in this rumba. It’s breaking my heart to say this, because I find you to be such an inspiration.” 18/30 Kristin Cavallari and Mark Ballas Not every story was forlorn. The former MTV reality-TV star picked Beyonc

Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman Isn’t First Controversial Costume

We look back at other divisive getups, including George Clooney’s Batman and Adrianne Palicki’s Wonder Woman. By Kara Warner Anne Hathaway on the set of “Dark Knight Rises” Photo: PhamousFotos/ Splash News Nothing causes a storm of online controversy like the first big reveal of an updated superhero costume — particularly when said costume is on a glamorous Hollywood starlet. Case in point: the paparazzi photo snapped on the Los Angeles set of “The Dark Knight Rises” that features a catsuit-clad Anne Hathaway in between scenes. The firestorm around the photo, as well as the detailed analysis that followed, reminded us of some other costumes that received the same obsessive treatment. MTV News reached out to Caleb Goellner, senior editor at Comics Alliance , for his thoughts on past lightning-rod getups. Halle Berry’s Catwoman All things considered, Hathaway’s costume has nothing on Halle Berry’s barely there, frequently mocked ensemble from 2004’s much-maligned “Catwoman,” which went on to win four Razzies for Worst Picture, Worst Actress, Worst Director and Worst Screenplay. “If somebody would’ve asked me, ‘Hey, you think it’d be feasible to fight crime wearing nothing but a few handfuls of random belts from a TJ Maxx after-Thanksgiving sale bargain bin circa 1984?’ In, like, 2003, I might’ve said, ‘Maybe,’ ” Goellner admitted. “I confess to not being open-minded enough for that response in a post-‘Catwoman’ world, though.” Adrianne Palicki’s Wonder Woman There is a decent argument to be made that the violent reactions to the costume worn briefly by Adrianne Palicki were a large part of the reason David E. Kelley’s TV series failed to get picked up. Also, from what we know about the pilot , it was not good. “Palicki’s costume seems like it was scrutinized more for its choice of materials than its cut,” Goellner said. “Nobody really agrees on what Wonder Woman is/should be, but fans seemed united in their cries for a TV costume with a less vinyl-y sheen.” George Clooney and Val Kilmer’s Batmen When Warner Bros. hired Joel Schumacher to direct “Batman Forever” and then “Batman & Robin,” they wanted him to make the films less Tim Burton-style dark and more family-friendly. The result? Nipples were inexplicably added to the Batsuits worn by Val Kilmer and George Clooney. “In a world where rubber costumes often feature fake abs, adding nipples to a crime fighting suit is pretty logical,” Goellner said, tongue firmly in cheek. “The problem fans had with this outfit stemmed purely from the fact that, in the comics, Bruce Wayne has trained his nipples to go into sleep mode while fighting crime, diverting calories to other parts of his body as needed. This continuity error, however minor, really distracted from Joel Schumacher’s otherwise completely authentic filmmaking choices.” Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern The debate about CGI is ongoing: How much is too much? How much is too little? Shouldn’t we expect all superhero-themed movies to be computer-generated spectacles? When the first photo of Ryan Reynolds as a green-suited Hal Jordan appeared, there were accusations of ruin and overuse of Photoshop. Said Goellner: “Green Lantern’s organic look had some feeling like he was more of a Slim Goodbody stand-in than a proper space cop. Others, who accepted the rationality of the costume as a manifestation of alien technology, were still bummed by its lack of depth and overall painted-on look. Everyone else was too busy hoping for a cosmic ‘Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place’ reunion to notice.” X-Men Suit Up in Black Leather For those who grew up with their crime-fighting mutants sporting the classic blue-and-yellow suits as seen on the pages of the Marvel comic, as well as the animated cartoon, the all-black ensembles worn by the cast in Bryan Singer’s 2000 hit ruffled many a fanboy’s feathers back in the day — so much so that Singer added an homage to the fans via Cyclops’ cheeky line: “What would you prefer, yellow spandex?” “Given the X-Men’s history of trying out new uniforms in the comics, fans weren’t supremely bothered by X-Men’s low-key combat suits,” Goellner said. “Then again, the state of the superhero film was so abysmal in 2000 that fans were open to anything that was more ‘Blade’ than ‘Batman & Robin.’ It also probably would’ve been a bad idea to put Hugh Jackman in a mask, when everyone knows the real star of the ‘X’ franchise has been his dreamy peepers.” Bonus: Barbara Eden’s Jeannie Back in 1965, nothing caused more controversy on network television than Barbara Eden’s scandalous costume on “I Dream of Jeannie” — so scandalous that network execs made the costume designers add extra inches to the waistline so Eden’s belly button wouldn’t be exposed. Goellner’s final word: “Her costume is a delight, but everybody knows that real genies are blue, have goatees and kind of talk like that guy who starred in ‘Hook.’ ” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Dark Knight Rises.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Kristen Stewart Dons ‘Snow White’ Armor In New Photos

Pics show Stewart filming battle scene on beach in Wales. By Jocelyn Vena Kristen Stewart as “Snow White” Photo: Universal Kristen Stewart looks like she’s ready for battle. Some photos of the “Twilight” star on the set of “Snow White and the Huntsman” have hit the Internet. In them, Stewart is wearing her previously teased armor as she films scenes at Marloes Sands Beach in Pembrokeshire Wales, U.K., this week. Photos on Screenrant.com show the actress riding a white horse alongside a group of extras dressed as medieval soldiers. They are riding through the water for what appears to be some sort of battle scene. In some on-set candids, the ponytail-sporting actress laughs and walks around the set of the Rupert Sanders-directed flick. Stewart recently debuted her longer locks for the film at London Fashion Week. No signs of co-stars Charlize Theron (the Evil Queen), Chris Hemsworth (the Huntsman) or Sam Claflin (Prince Charming) in the new photos. The film is expected to open June 1, 2012. “It’s not a little girl sitting by a well with little tweety birds telling her what to do and where to go,” Stewart told MTV News of her character. “[The costume] makes you feel kind of strong occasionally, sometimes, but I kind of feel tiny, my pinhead sticks out of these enormous things.” Her tough look has even been approved by that other “Snow White” movie director, Tarsem , who recently gushed over her battle-ready look. “She’s gorgeous,” he told MTV News. “She’s great.” The film centers around the struggle between Snow White and the Evil Queen, who, jealous of Snow White’s beauty, wants to destroy her. The catch is that Snow White has been training with the Huntsman, who has been ordered to kill her. And in true fairy-tale form, Prince Charming is enamored with Snow White. “This, as a fable, she sort of just starts off as a bad person, so it was important to understand [why she is the way she is],” Theron explained about her character. “A lot of her circumstances will kind of bleed into her actions. … She’s a serial killer; I’m pretty much preparing to play a serial killer.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Snow White and the Huntsman.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Lil Wayne cover arrives ahead of Biebs’ forthcoming Christmas album. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Christopher Polk/ Getty Images First, it was Demi Lovato , and now, Justin Bieber is jumping on the Lil Wayne “How to Love” bandwagon. On Wednesday (September 28), the singer dropped his acoustic version of the ballad. According to a tweet from Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun , Bieber produced and played all of the instruments on the song, which shows the singer growing as an artist and his ability to embrace older lyrical content. He plays guitar and percussion, displaying his skills an instrumentalist, and, as fans have seen over the course of this year, he also sings in a lower key. About a minute and a half into the track, Bieber even shows off his rapping skills when he spits, “I just want to take my time/ I just want to my thing/ Maybe we press rewind/ Maybe I buy that ring/ We could grow old together/ Just share our souls together/ Find how to love, kiss and hug/ How to roll together/ I just need you by my side/ Maybe we could be alright/ I just want to hold you right/ We can into the night/ You’re the one I need.” Braun also shared that there’s more new music coming out from Bieber, tweeting, “He has some more remixes coming too. right @seankingston.” This week, Bieber heads to South America for a string of dates on the next leg of his My World Tour, and he had this message for all the Bieliebers out there: “U know what … I LOVE MY FANS!! and yeah i know there r haterz but u cant stop us from living our dream. hard work and this team. #wegohard.” In related news, Bieber tweeted out the date “#nov1st,” perhaps a hint as to when his highly anticipated Christmas album will drop. Demi Lovato Puts Her ‘Spin’ On Lil Wayne’s ‘How To Love’

Unbroken singer tells MTV News she ‘tried to make it a little more empowering.’ By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: MTV News Demi Lovato is back to performing live. And in addition to singing tracks off of her just-released album Unbroken , she’s also dazzling crowds with her stirring first-person rendition of Lil Wayne’s “How to Love.” Video of her singing the track has become a viral smash, and when MTV News caught up with the “Skyscraper” singer on Wednesday afternoon (September 21), she seemed pumped to talk about the cover. “I just loved the way that Lil Wayne took a risk doing the song ‘How to Love,’ and when I really listened to it, it’s such a great song.” The song is about a damaged young woman who has never really known the power of true love, but finds strengths in her experiences as the song closes out. Lovato found a female empowerment theme in the single and decided to perform it as the female character. “It has such a deep meaning to it and I wanted to perform that and I put a little spin on it and tried to make it a little more empowering,” she explained. “And I think it fit with the platform and the message that I have with my fans.” So, has Lovato heard from Wayne about her acoustic version? “No, I haven’t,” she said. “If I did, I would die of happiness.” Lovato was equally excited when we asked whether fans might soon catch her performing the track onstage with Wayne. “Oh, I don’t know,” she said. “Oh my gosh, that would be amazing. I’ve never met him in my life, so if I got to be on stage with him, I would just die.” Do you think Wayne and Demi should perform the song together? Tell us your thoughts in the comments! Parole Board Stands By Their Decision To Execute Troy Davis!

Read the original here:

Troy Davis’ case has been one of the top trending topics throughout social media. It’s gained international attention, with renowned people in support of Davis such as Pope Benedict XVI, Desmond Tutu, and former President Jimmy Carter, entertainers such as Susan Sarandon, Harry Belafonte, NAACP, and more. “Two decades ago, a jury convicted Davis on two counts of aggravated assault and one each of possessing a firearm during a crime, obstructing a law enforcement officer and murder. The latter charge led, soon thereafter, to his death sentence. Mr. Davis is set to be executed for murdering a Savannah police officer in 1989. And regardless of the 663,000 signatures and rallies in support to free Mr. Davis, the parole board denied him clemency and he’s set to be put to death tomorrow (September 21, 2011) at 7pm by lethal injection at  at a state prison in Jackson, Georgia.. This such a sad case because there’s not sufficient evidence to say that he committed the crime and witness have recanted their statements several times. We wasn’t there in 1989, so we don’t know if he’s guilty or not. But I do know that the case needs a FAIR TRIAL.~Jazzy McBee Here’s what CNN is reporting. What are your thoughts?
