Kings Of Leon Drummer Lashes Out At ‘Glee’ Creator Ryan Murphy

And Murphy responds, calling Nathan Followill a ‘homophobe badly in need of some education.’ By Gil Kaufman Kings of Leon drummer Nathan Followill Photo: Lester Cohen/ WireImage The war of words between Kings Of Leon and “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy is heating up. After Murphy pointedly said “f— you” to the band in an interview for a Hollywood Reporter cover story, adding that he thinks KOL are “self-centered a–holes,” the group’s drummer shot back with a pointed response on Wednesday (January 26). “Dear Ryan Murphy, let it go,” Followill tweeted in response to Murphy’s criticism of the band for not allowing the show to use their mega-hit “Use Somebody” in an episode last year. “See a therapist, get a manicure, buy a new bra. Zip your lip and focus on educating 7yr olds how to say f—.” The battle quickly heated up when Murphy shot back at Nathan, condemning him for what he deemed homophobic comments. “Just read Nathan Followill’s Tweet,” Murphy told Perez Hilton on Wednesday. “In which he implied I should ‘get a manicure and buy a bra.’ Wow. That’s a homophobe badly in need of some education. I’m all for manicures, don’t wear a bra. Would guess most gay dudes don’t. But it’s telling that Nathan can reduce a group of people to a mean-spirited clich

Does ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 1’ Title Card Reflect Movie’s Tone?

Summit Entertainment says each ‘Twilight’ film’s color scheme has meaning. By Kara Warner “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” Photo: Summit In the spirit of the old adage, “When it rains, it pours,” a flurry of “Twilight” news and imagery has hit the Internet over the past two weeks. Things kicked off last week with the release of the first photo from “Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” which showed the film’s paramours, Robert Pattinson’s Edward and Kristen Stewart’s Bella, in a very romantic moment on the night after their wedding. Shortly after that photo set “Twilight” fan eyes popping and hearts racing, MTV News was lucky enough to catch up with Pattinson himself at the Golden Globe Awards to get his thoughts on the steamy-looking photo. On Friday (January 21), Summit Entertainment released yet another early gift for the millions of “Twilight” fans, the official title card for the first part of “Breaking Dawn.” Keeping with the tradition and look of the first three films, “Twilight,” “New Moon” and “Eclipse,” this “Dawn” title card has the same font (its official name is Zephyr) that fans have come to know and love. And while the card for “Twilight” was red, “New Moon” was gold and “Eclipse” was shiny silver, this card for Part 1 of “Dawn” is a reddish orange — the color of, well, the sky as dawn breaks. According to Summit, each card has a unique color to reflect the tone of the story. So judging from this intense color, what might we expect from the film that we don’t already know about? Those who’ve read and obsessed over Stephenie Meyer’s novels know that the conclusion to the “Twilight Saga” packed a punch, complete with a vampire transformation , a marriage, a baby and a battle . What do you think of the “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” title card? What scenes are you most excited to see in the film? Tell us in the comments! Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .

‘No Strings Attached’ Director Says ‘Friends With Benefits’ Can’t Last

‘It’s very easy to have a sexual relationship that lasts for a short while,’ Ivan Reitman tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Natalie Portman in “No Strings Attached” Photo: Cold Spring Pictures Ivan Reitman is not only one of Hollywood’s most notable and reputable producers of memorable comedies (“Animal House,” “Old School”); he’s also directed plenty of them (“Stripes,” “Meatballs,” “Ghostbusters”), including the upcoming romantic comedy “No Strings Attached,” starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher . The fact that Reitman is one of the most memorable players in the business makes him an intriguing, if slightly intimidating, interview subject. However, given Reitman’s history with wacky and sometimes raunchy comedy, when MTV News caught up with him recently to discuss “No Strings Attached,” we felt it entirely appropriate to ask his thoughts on the idea of “friends with benefits,” particularly whether the mythological-sounding “agreement” that has become commonplace in pop culture these days can ever actually work. “Well, I think it’s very easy to have a sexual relationship that lasts for a short while, where there’s no kind of responsibility and there’s no kind of real ties,” Reitman said thoughtfully. “It’s been my experience, as somebody who’s been married for way more years than I believe, that you can’t do that for any real length of time.” Reitman went on to say that although it’s a nice idea, we human beings can’t help but fall in love at some point, “arrangement” or no. “It’s really the subplot of this movie as well. I think it’s as much of a fantasy that we’d all like to think it’s possible,” he said of the “friends with benefits” idea. “I think it’s tough, because we do fall in love, and there’s something about the human connection that makes us want to have deeper connections.” Check out everything we’ve got on “No Strings Attached.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . A “Lil Positivity”: Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords Upgraded To “Serious Condition”

Psycho Jared Loughner’s main target in the Arizona mass shooting is beginning to recover from her injuries as families continue to grieve and ask why. The congresswoman shot in the January 8 mass shooting in Arizona reached another milestone as mourners said goodbye to one of her staff members and a retired construction worker who died shielding his wife. U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was upgraded from critical to serious condition Sunday, eight days after being shot in the head at a public event. “The congresswoman continues to do well,” University Medical Center said in a statement. The two other shooting victims still hospitalized were both in good condition, the hospital said. On Sunday, the funeral for Dorwan Stoddard took place in Tucson. Witnesses said when the gunfire rang out, Stoddard, 76, was trying to protect his wife, Mavy, when he was shot in the head and fell onto her. A memorial for Gabriel “Gabe” Zimmerman, 30, also took place Sunday. Zimmerman was director for community outreach on Giffords’ staff and was engaged to be married. Cameras were not allowed inside the memorial. Footage from KGUN showed people leaving the event, some of them stopping to embrace one another. In addition to Stoddard and Zimmerman, those killed included 9-year-old Christina Green; Arizona’s chief federal judge, John Roll; Dorothy Morris, 76; and Phyllis Schneck, 79. A total of 19 people were shot at the “Congress on Your Corner” event at a Tucson supermarket. Authorities believe Giffords was the target of the mass shooting that left six dead and another 13 wounded. A 22-year-old suspect, Jared Lee Loughner, is in custody. The contentious issue of gun control was put in the spotlight Saturday when one of the 13 wounded in the attack was involuntarily committed to a county mental services unit after he made threats against a Tea Party member at a town hall event in Tucson. James Eric Fuller, 63, photographed Trent Humphries and said, “You are dead,” when Humphries began speaking at the event, according to Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jason Ogan. Humphries told CNN that Fuller’s comment came when the town hall discussion turned toward the issue of gun control. “I was asked to give my thoughts on gun control laws and perhaps the passage of new laws,” Humphries said of the incident. “I said something to the effect that although gun rights and laws are not necessarily the primary focus of the Tucson Tea Party, our community needs to be given the opportunity to allow some time to pass and people to heal before we start this type of political dialogue.” SMH, we hope some good comes out of this mess in the long run. Britney Spears’ Pop Rivalries, From Christina Aguilera To Lady Gaga

‘She’s sort of left a lot of these girls in the dust,’ one Spears expert tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Christina Garibaldi Lady Gaga and Britney Spears Photo: Getty Images For more than a decade, Britney Spears has been pitted against some of her pop peers, including Madonna, Jessica Simpson, Christian Aguilera and, most recently, Lady Gaga . She’s publicly buried the hatchet with Madonna and Aguilera — sharing a three-way kiss with the pair at the 2003 VMAs — and never really paid much attention to the hype of other so-called rivalries. “Since the beginning of her career, she’s always been pitted against whatever big pop person there is,” MTV News’ Jim Cantiello explained. “I feel like artists have had rivalries with Britney and she hasn’t really had rivalries with them,” Entertainment Weekly ‘s Leah Greenblatt added. “She’s sort of left a lot of these girls in the dust.” While Brit has managed to stay on top all these years, a new pop princess might give her a run for her money. “I think Gaga’s already been talking about what she is gonna do. She has said that her album is going to be more than just dance songs, and I’m guessing that Britney might be making a different type of album, which is great, because in that sense, Brit and Gaga don’t have to compete,” Perez Hilton said of any potential new rivalry. “They’re each doing their own very distinct thing.” Greenblatt agreed: “It just seems like they’re operating on different wavelengths right now. I mean, Britney’s proven herself over such a longer period of time than Gaga has. I don’t think that Gaga can just wipe her off the pop royalty board.” At the end of the day, it’s not at all about competition, Cantiello explained. “Britney’s going in the super dance route and Gaga’s doing a super personal album,” he said. “It comes a point where we’ve got to stop comparing the two.” Plus, it’s hard for these two to really ever compete with one another, since Gaga has admitted to waving the Britney flag . “I was 13 when Britney became a star,” she said in 2009. “I was amazed by the level of the superfan that Britney created. I want to bring back the feeling that I used to feel.” Who has been Britney’s worthiest adversary? Share your thoughts in the comments!
