Are Britney, Kanye And Jay-Z Taking Advantage Of 1/11/11?

The date is all about sharing, truth and bravery, according to astrology and numerology experts. By Kara Warner Britney Spears Photo: Getty Images Tuesday (January 11) doesn’t just mark the release of singles from both Britney Spears and Kanye West and Jay-Z , it’s also the second of three interesting days in the 2011 calendar year: January 1 (1/1/11), January 11 (1/11/11) and November 11 (11/11/11). The repetition of all those ones and 11s can have even the least superstitious among us wondering, is there anything special about these days? MTV News turned to two experts for answers, numerologist Julian Michael and astrologer Susan Miller. First, Michael provided the basics on numerology and its importance. “Numerology is a science,” he asserted. “The father of mathematics is the father of numbers: Pythagoras, and in 550 B.C. he said, ‘Everything in the universe has a number and that number has a meaning,’ so all numbers have a meaning and a significance.” Michaels explained that 11 is a “master number,” one that generates an energy promoting partnership, cooperation, kindness and peace. “We’re talking about a day of really sharing yourself on a different level, of really connecting with family, friends, strangers,” he said. “It’s also about truth. When these energies come up as 11s, like 11:11 on the clock, when you see 11 somewhere, it’s almost like an energy, a vibration, an angel, a metaphor as a guide form the universe asking you to look within.” Michael recommended that people use this day to share and acknowledge. In other words, follow the examples of Britney, Yeezy and Hov, and express yourself. “With regard to work, share your wisdoms,” he said. “Share who you are, share your heart, share your love with others. Acknowledge those around you. Acknowledge those you work with, live with, those that are your co-workers, friends, family, acknowledge them. In that we empower them.” Astrologer Susan Miller also addressed the idea of cooperation and self-reflection, and added that it might be a good time to be bold or make your voice heard. “Be brave,” she advised, speaking to the astrological side of the equation, in that the moon is in Aries, which is the sign of the pioneer, the pathfinder. “You have responsibility to use your voice, your perspective, your style in whatever field you’ve gone into. It’s the ‘let you be you’ feeling. Maybe with all these numbers, we’re being reminded that it’s a good thing to do.” For more information on Julian Michael, visit JulianMichael.net , and for Susan Miller, check out AstrologyZone.net . So do you think there’s any significance to the date 1/11/11? Whether or not you believe it’s a time to “share your heart,” you should definitely share your thoughts in the comments below! Patton Oswalt Explains ‘Zombie Spaceship Wasteland’ Memoir

‘It kind of leaps around, but it tells a portion of my life,’ comedian tells MTV News. By Rick Marshall Patton Oswalt Photo: MTV News In “Zombie Spaceship Wasteland,” Patton Oswalt’s new essay-driven memoir, the actor/comedian argues that the question of which of those three categories we each fall under decides our destinies and the sort of people we become. Zombies simplify the world around them, Spaceships seek the new, and Wastelands … well, they destroy. For Oswalt, his own answer to that question was a long time coming, but after finishing the book, he’s now certain that he is, indeed, a Wasteland — and he’s not alone. “A lot of comedians are Wastelands,” he writes. “What is stand-up comedy except isolating specific parts of culture or humanity and holding them up against a stark, vast background to approach at an oblique angle and get laughs?” Though it’s the first novel from the geek-friendly actor, Oswalt has dabbled in writing on several occasions, including some recent work in the comic book world that had him scripting stories based on Joss Whedon’s “Firefly” universe (titled “Serenity: Float Out”). With “Zombie Spaceship Wasteland,” however, he turns the focus on himself in a series of short essays — some autobiographical, some fictional — that explore his evolution as a media consumer, creator, and, well, human being. “It kind of leaps around, but it tells a portion of my life,” he told MTV News. “Memories, to me, are more impressionistic rather than ‘This happened, then this happened, then this happened.’ If you think about it, they’re memorized differently depending on what age you were when you had them.” Regularly diverging into lengthy footnotes, off-topic asides and other digressions, “Zombie Spaceship Wasteland” doesn’t follow the conventions of standard autobiographical fare — a fact Oswalt says is a reflection of his own way of thinking and communicating, and something fans of his stand-up comedy will likely find familiar. He even goes so far as to list, at the end of each chapter, everything he did on the Internet while writing that section of the book. “That’s how I talk. When I say things, I’ll digress, so the best way to capture that was with a footnote,” he said of the lengthy notations in each essay. For Oswalt, the difficulty in bringing all the essays together wasn’t so much in finding good material, but deciding which stories to include and how to present them. In one of the longer essays, titled “Victory Tour,” Oswalt presents a diary-style account of the worst gig in his career: a 1994 stint at a comedy club outside Vancouver. In another essay, his memories of an eccentric uncle teach him something about himself and his values. “I had taken those notes so long ago,” he said of the “Victory Tour” chapter. “I didn’t know what I was going to do with them, whether I would turn them into a bit or a graphic novel or something. “The one that was the most satisfying to get down, though, was the one about my Uncle Pete,” he continued. “It got a little bit more real, and I uncovered some things about myself that I didn’t quite realize until I started writing it.” “Zombie Spaceship Wasteland” is on shelves now from Scribner Publishing. Lindsay Lohan Set To Leave Rehab Facility

Actress has been at the Betty Ford Center since September and reportedly has plans for ‘a comeback.’ By Gil Kaufman Lindsay Lohan (file) Photo: Robyn Beck/ Getty Images After her longest sustained stay in a rehab facility, troubled actress Lindsay Lohan is reportedly set to leave the Betty Ford Center on Monday (January 3). Following months of drama that included a failed drug test and an alleged altercation with a rehab worker , Lohan, 24, will emerge into an uncertain future thanks to her ongoing legal and personal struggles. She’s already lost one of the few parts Hollywood has offered her in recent years, the lead role in the Linda Lovelace biopic “Inferno,” and given her past, it’s unclear what the onetime double threat singer/actress’ next move could be. Lohan’s fourth stint in rehab came after she voluntarily entered the Ford Center in late September following an admission that she’d failed a court-mandated drug test . It was preceded by a 14-hour trip to jail — the same one she’d exited in August for violating her probation. That was followed by 23 days in court-ordered rehab. In the ensuing months, Lohan was dropped from “Inferno” after director Matthew Wilder said he was unable to obtain insurance for the actress in the wake of her troubles. In December, there was a false report that she might be headed to “Dancing With the Stars,” a development that, if true, would not have been a promising one for an actress who is attempting to make a serious comeback. And, late last month, the woman who accused Lohan of assault at the Ford Center was fired for revealing details about the incident to TMZ; she later agreed to drop charges against the star. With no known movie deals currently inked, Lohan could be facing one of her longest sustained breaks from the big screen since her debut in 1998’s remake of “The Parent Trap.” After a series of flops (“Bobby,” “Georgia Rule,” “I Know Who Killed Me,” “Chapter 27” and the ABC Family movie “Labor Pains”), Lohan’s only significant role of note in the past year is a cameo in “Machete.” The one bright spot in Lohan’s career — despite harsh disses from Kanye West — has been her foray into fashion. E! News reported that Lohan wants to expand her 6126 fashion line to include footwear in addition to leggings. Though the line isn’t likely to debut until later this year, a rep for 6126 told E! that Lohan is very involved in the new project. “She’ll finalize everything when she’s out.” The rep added that the shoes Lohan was mulling over would be “classic, glamorous, timeless with a sexy flair.” Despite a cloudy future, Lohan posted a hopeful message on Twitter on New Year’s Day, writing, “Today is the first day of the rest of my life,” and then quoted spiritual icon Mahatma Ghandi’s message that, “The future depends on what we do in the present.” Her sometimes estranged father, Michael, told CBS News that his daughter is doing “unbelievably” well. “She’s turned this whole situation around to use this to her advantage and she has taken the right steps and put the right people back in her life that she had at the best part of her life to really use it as a springboard,” Lohan said. Though her father is bullish on Lindsay’s release, an addiction specialist told CBS News that the 90-day stay in treatment is the beginning of a long, hard road. “You either change your behavior and your lifestyle, or you’re going to end up institutionalized, crazy or dead,” Howard Samuels said. He recommended that Lohan lie low for a while, though the “Mean Girls” star already seems eager to hit the ground running. She recently posted provocative pictures taken in August 2010, which she said, “are for my comeback,” and a slick new site, LindsayLohan.com features an image of her under a swinging chandelier with a soundtrack provided by La Roux’s “In for the Kill” and the words “coming soon.” Do you think Lindsay can make a comeback? Kanye West Turned Defiance Into Victory In 2010

Via Twitter, G.O.O.D. Fridays and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy ‘Ye came out on top this year. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Steven Roberts Kanye West performs at the 2010 Video Music Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images So, this Kanye West fella, you might have heard of him. He basically Swift-boated his career at the 2009 VMAs, went into a self-imposed exile and then triumphantly returned nearly a year later with what many have called the best album of 2010. Huh? In just over 12 months, West baffled critics by going from zero to hero, while still lashing out at the media and, with stunts like his #kanyeshrug hashtag, essentially proving he’s the same guy he always was. “I think the thing with Kanye, he really just stuck to the same script, which is basically, Iove me or hate me but the music is gonna be so great you have to deal with me,” Complex editor-in-chief Noah Callahan-Bever told MTV News. “And that’s been the story of his career since the beginning. I think this year, he happened to be loved or hated in such extremes at the end of 2009, going on a self-imposed exile in Hawaii, he really created a currency in the intrigue with what he was doing.” What he was doing was assembling a barrage of hip-hop’s best producers — including Q-Tip, the RZA, Pete Rock and more — and a diverse range of collaborators to help put together his artistic denouement: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The collection was bombastic musically and browbeating lyrically. The first shot, “Power,” was a sonic middle finger to his detractors. ‘Ye looked at his life and career and took stock of his place in the pop-culture ranks. It was a manifesto, of sorts, in which West declared that he was aware of his flaws and mistakes but everyone else can take them or leave them. “He really figured that great music will change things,” RapRadar and RESPECT. magazine’s Elliot Wilson explained. It wasn’t just the music, though, that helped Kanye come back into people’s good graces once again. He took to Twitter to voice this thoughts, sometimes in amusing non sequiturs, sometimes in revealing bunches of dispatches came in bunches, like when he addressed, once and for all, the Taylor Swift incident. In words that he couldn’t seem to put to melody or properly convey to a talk-show host, West simply took responsibility, apologized and moved on to the next track. And then he proceeded to change the subject with his string of G.O.O.D. Friday releases online. “He did select press but he made a lot of noise online,” New York Times music critic Jon Caramanica said. “I think he understood quickly how to make the best use of that medium.” But what the critics and everyone who catches themselves constantly humming songs from Fantasy agree on is that “he really brought it all back to the music,” as Callahan-Bever put it. “At the end of the day no Taylor Swift incident or ‘Today’ show appearance can take away from [that].” Related Videos Stories Of 2010 Related Photos Kanye West’s Amazing Year Related Artists Kanye West

‘Men think women are hoes anyway, when a man meets a woman, we’re not looking at you as the mother of our children or the wife’ Says the Relationship Beast

Good day, Bossip fam! As promised, we are re-introducing you to Steven James Dixon, author of the book, “Men Don’t Heal We Ho,” a Book About the Emotional Instability of Men. After receiving and reading the book, we had to talk to him as we learned he had scripted his experiences with women and marriage and sent it to the press. With chapters that will resonate in the depths of your psyche, Dixon leaves no room for question in this in-depth chronicle of his personal struggles with being a husband after unapologetically “ho”ing. His message is true and the best part, perhaps, is his willingness to share his thoughts and emotions with raw honesty. We had the chance to explore Dixon’s thought process and it’s reminiscent of long chats with an older brother who will never steer you in the wrong direction. No questions go unanswered without brutal candor that cannot be argued – it’s no wonder people would seek the ‘Relationship Beast’s’ opinion. It’s foolproof and simple enough to apply to your love life. Many topics are worthy of discussion, so, please take a look and share your thoughts below! To read the first part of our interview with Mr. Dixon, click here ! For part 2, click here ! Bossip: So, let’s touch on the emotional instability of men that you talk about in you book. Dixon: Some men, who are emotionally unstable, go into this zone where they’re not thinking, they’re not feeling and they’re not understanding how they’re impacting or affecting other people. They’re just acting. And that’s why some of us lose it or go crazy because we keep our issues to ourselves, you know? Women can go to their mothers, their sisters, friends and cry, vent, express themselves and feel better but men fee like they don’t have a platform for that. Not only do we not want to share, we also believe that our friends don’t want to hear it. Bossip: Hm. That’s interesting. Now, in your book you talked about your father’s emotional instability which led to his resenting your mom, you and your siblings. What advice would you give to a man who’s feeling “trapped” or harboring resentment towards his wife, the mother of his children or his kids? Dixon: It’s not manly. I don’t really know how to else to say that. There’s no sugar-coating this. A lot of men don’t understand the responsibility of being – well, for starters, a lot of men don’t know what a man is! As a man, his number one responsibility is his family, period. That is what a man is. A man is responsible for his family – protection, security, safety, stability, financially – all those types of things. My wife doesn’t worry about any of that at all and I wasn’t taught that! There was no one to teach me that. No one! My dad was in prison and my stepfather was crazy, there was no one around. It took me being blessed and saying to myself, “ I have to figure this out.” It took me saying, “okay, I am not successful at relationships,” I had to accept that. That’s another thing that men do, men think they’re good with relationships and they say, “oh, it’s the woman,” or, “it’s 50/50, we both have problems.” No! I had to admit that I was not successful at relationships but I was good at other things. Professionally, I wasn’t going to loose and it wasn’t until I adopted the same attitude and applied it to my relationships that I became successful in my marriage. Bossip: In your book, you talked about a situation where you were stringing two women along. The story was pretty funny, but, one of the women you were pretty serious about, right? We’ve all had that person who would have been a great match but the time wasn’t right. In your opinion, how important is timing? Dixon: Mm. Well, I was emotionally unstable at the time. Cleo was her name and she shouldn’t have dated me, she knew who I was. There are too many women who know exactly where the man is, but they still continue to date him — he’s not going to change, he’s not going to be better. Women need to understand that a man is always going to do what’s best for him. You never have to tell a man to do what’s best for him or not to compromise this or sacrifice that because he’s not going to — Bossip: That’s selfish. Are you saying that men are selfish by nature? Dixon: Oh, absolutely! We are selfish by nature especially when to comes to relationships. We have to learn how to share and put other people first. Women kind of get that naturally, it’s nothing. It’s a motherly instinct and a natural inclination for women to want others to be happy. Women want their girlfriends to be happy! I get e-mails all the time from women about their girlfriends situations, I don’t get any e-mails from dudes about their homeboys … ever. We don’t care about each other like that to talk about those type of things. For women, it’s natural to put others before herself but for men it’s learned. I tell men all the time, when you’re in a relationship, there are certain things you have to do and a lot of men just don’t want to do them! Men have to be responsible! Men have to understand that you have to maintain your respect for your wife and she has to respect you! You can’t lose your respect. She doesn’t respect you and you have a problem because of the things that you do! You have to take responsibility for your actions. You’re running around making mistakes as if you’re single and still want her to respect you? For what? That’s not how manhood works. If she doesn’t respect you, then doesn’t respect your manhood and she won’t follow your leadership. Bossip: Wow, true! Dixon: But let’s get back to women, though. What kills me about women is this: I talked to a woman yesterday who was dating a man who made very clear to her that he was separated from his wife, he wanted his wife back and if she were to call him today, he would go back to her. And her response was, “I don’t know what I’m going to do if you go back to your wife.” But a man would never accept that! If a woman told a man, “if my husband calls me today, I’m going back to him.” He would be like, “okay. I’ll holler at you another time,” or it would just be a sex thing.

Teena Marie’s Influence Found In Mary J. Blige, Hip-Hop, More

Late soul veteran paved the way for several of today’s hitmakers. By Mawuse Ziegbe Teena Marie Photo: Larry Marano/Getty Images R&B great Teena Marie died over the weekend, but her enduring legacy can be found in the legions of soul stars who followed in her footsteps. Marie joined the iconic Motown label in the late ’70s and spent the next three decades building a reputation as a Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist with a gift for penning lyrics and belting with soulful abandon. Her influence — from her top-flight musicianship to her pioneering image as a white, female R&B artist — can be found in many of today’s hitmakers. Mary J. Blige The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul has pointed to Marie as an early influence when the budding superstar was coming up in her scrappy Yonkers, New York, neighborhood. “Tina Mari inspired me vocally as a child. Her songs I sang in the mirror with a hair brush. I’m so hurt,” she tweeted on Sunday. “I’ll love u forever Tina Mari. Portuguese Love, Casanova Brown, Square Biz, I need your lovin, all of your music will live forever through me. In my heart she’s Tina, So rest in peace Tina, i love u. Every girl that grew up in the hood , with her blasting through the windows, Cars and radio waves can Feel me.” Faith Evans Like Marie, former Bad Boy singer Faith Evans boasts a bold voice and a headline-making relationship with a labelmate and music icon. Marie hooked up with Motown funk architect Rick James early in her career and would go on to spark a romance with the R&B great. James also served as a mentor to Marie, and the two teamed up for memorable collaborations such as James’ Street Songs jam “Fire and Desire.” In addition to churning out soulful hits with Bad Boy, Evans is known for marrying Brooklyn MC Notorious B.I.G. soon after meeting her charismatic labelmate. Marie has even commented on the similarities between the two vocalists in the bio for the soul legend’s 2009 album, Congo Square, which featured their collabo “Can’t Last a Day.” “I’ve always loved Faith and her vocal style. She reminds me of me. Her correlation with Biggie — having a career with him and without him — reminds me of me and Rick,” she said. “I feel like she’s a younger me. Of the younger ladies, she’s the one I love most.” Alicia Keys Marie was also a masterful musician, often manning everything from the keyboards to guitar on her albums and heading behind the boards as a producer. She helped establish a blueprint for female R&B stars who are actively involved in various aspects of the production process, such as pianist and producer Alicia Keys, who tweeted after Marie’s death, “God bless Teena Marie & her Family!Sending Blessings &prayers I was jus sayin tht fire & desire is 1 of the most beautifully performd songs!” Pink Marie’s race was somewhat controversial when she first debuted on Motown as a white woman belting soul-stirring R&B. Her picture was left off the album packaging her first LP, and many fans assumed Lady T was another new black artist making her mark in the R&B scene. However, she was ultimately accepted because of her undeniable talent and conviction in her voice. She has paved the way for many contemporary artists such as Joss Stone and Pink, who initially hit the scene with an R&B-tinged sound. After hearing of Marie’s death, Pink re-tweeted a missive from Go-Go’s bassist Kathy Valentine that read, “THIS SUCKS– heard that Teena Marie passed away. RIP. she was an original and one of a kind. sad.” As Marie told Essence in 2009, “I’m a black artist with white skin. At the end of the day you have to sing what’s in your own soul.” Hip-Hop While she made her name as a soul veteran, Marie’s music has popped up in hip-hop cuts from many of the game’s finest lyricists. Marie’s 1981 jam “Square Biz” was revamped for rap supergroup the Firm’s (Nas, Foxy Brown, AZ, Nature, Cormega) 1997 single “Firm Biz,” and Mase reworked the track’s jocular bass line for the Harlem World album cut “Love U So.” The chorus for the Fugees’ 1996 smash “Fu-Gee-La” features similar crooning to Marie’s hit “Ooo La La La” from the 1988 album Naked to the World. Even hip-hop stars who may not have reimagined Marie’s catalog for their own hits, such as Game , Big Boi and ?uestlove , recalled Marie’s influence and legacy on Twitter. Demi Lovato 2011 Solo Tour Still On Track

After dropping out of the Jonas Brothers ‘Camp Rock’ tour in October to enter treatment, Disney star confirms she’ll be back next year. By James Dinh Demi Lovato Photo: Gary Miller/ FilmMagic When Demi Lovato checked herself into a treatment center for “emotional and physical issues” in October, the Disney starlet was forced to check out early from her joint “Camp Rock” tour with the Jonas Brothers . But the teen star is determined to hit the road once again to promote a new album in 2011, according to The Associated Press .
