Texas Miracle: Not A Single Person Died During Yesterday’s Violent Tornado Outbreak

No Casualties From Texas Tornadoes Everyone in Dallas better be thanking their high heavens right now. Tractor-trailers weighing tens of thousands of pounds flew through the air. Roofs were ripped off homes, and other houses were left in complete tatters. Yet no deaths have been reported after devastating tornadoes worked their way through the Dallas-Forth Worth and Arlington areas of Texas. “It looks like the Dallas-Fort Worth area really dodged a bullet,” Dallas Mayor Michael Rawlings told CNN. “I mean we’ve got hundreds and hundreds of homes destroyed but amazingly no fatalities.” Between six and 13 tornadoes may have touched down Tuesday in north Texas, the National Weather Service in Dallas-Fort Worth said. The number is an estimate pending a survey and damage assessment. Rawlings said that as he looked at footage of tractor-trailers tossed about like lightweight toys, he was struck by how lucky it was nobody died. 13 tornadoes and everyone came out without losing a life. We just hope this storm passes the rest of the way with the same results. Source More On Bossip! The artistry leaps off the stage as black legs, brown arms and high-yellow bodies soar through the air in dances such as “Revelations.” At an Alvin Ailey performance it’s not quite clear what’s more beautiful: the black people on stage, or the ones in the audience swelling with pride and awe as they see people who look like them performing ballet and modern dance. African Americans so rarely see themselves dancing majestically. Pop dances such as the “Fox Trot” and the “Charleston” have now been replaced by the “Dougie” and the a’Wobblea’. At an Alvin Ailey performance however, black men and women are the manifestation of hopes and dreams as well as pain and suffering. Watch this snippet of “Rock My Soul” “Ailey will rock your soul!” from AlvinAileyAmericanDanceTheater on Vimeo . Ailey, born during the Depression in Texas, grew up in the church and juke joints. The conflicting forces fueled his sense of black pride and influenced what would later become a world-renowned dance company. Ailey started his troupe after moving to New York in the late ’50s and being dissatisfied with the style of dances performed at company’s there. “Revelations” is his most notable work, but its precursor was “Blues Suite.” The piece was derived from blues songs and it conveyed the African Americans’ suffering. While “Blues Suite” focused on the pain of black folks, “Revelations” showcased the perseverance and tenacity. It is a work of celebration influenced by Ailey’s rural upbringing in Texas.

Fun. Go Big, Beautiful In New ‘We Are Young’ Video

Eye-catching clip leads up to the release of their Some Nights album and serves notice Fun. may be the breakout band of 2012. By James Montgomery Nate Ruess in the “We Are Young” music video Photo: Fueled By Ramen The first must-see music video of 2012 has already been preceded by both an artful perils-of-peeling teaser and a stirring, acoustic vid seemingly shot adjacent to a bank vault. Oh, and a performance by the “Glee” cast too. The official, real-deal version of Fun.’s “We Are Young” video premiered Monday on MTV.com, and I mention all the lead-up not just because it was rather unprecedented (especially for a band this green; they’ve released just one studio album to date), but because, rarely, if ever, does the final product live up to the advanced hype. Except this time, it does. The latest — and, one can assume, last — version of “Young” is a gorgeous, gasp-inducing thing, a swirling, slow-motion snow globe of imagery that gradually envelops the band (and guest vocalist Janelle Mon

Michael Jackson Trial Put On Hold Until Wednesday

Judge suspends trial of Dr. Conrad Murray due to a death in key witness’ family. By Gil Kaufman Conrad Murray Photo: Pool/ Getty Images After taking the day off Friday just as the prosecution was preparing to wrap up its case, the involuntary manslaughter trial of Michael Jackson’s physician, Dr. Conrad Murray , is on hold due to the death of the father of the prosecution’s final witness. According to , the Los Angeles Court public information office sent out a notice Sunday explaining that details on the resumption of the trial will be sent out “when further information is available.” After two weeks of evidence attempting to portray Murray as negligent and reckless in his care for Jackson, the prosecution was close to wrapping up its part of the case when testimony was suspended Friday to allow final witness Dr. Steven Shafer to travel to a previously scheduled anesthesiology conference in Chicago. But, en route to the conference, Shafter learned that his father had died, and he never made it to the event. Shafer, described as a highly respected anesthesiologist and pharmacologist, was expected to testify about the effects of the surgical anesthetic propofol on the human body. Jackson died as a result of propofol intoxication, and the case against Murray hinges on the prosecution’s theory that the cardiologist gave the pop icon a lethal dose of the drug and then provided substandard care when Jackson went into cardiac arrest as a result. The Associated Press reported that the trial will resume Wednesday, after the judge in the case agreed to give the defense more time to prepare their response to tests the coroner’s office conducted last week on the level of the sedative lorazepam in Jackson’s system. Shafer is also expected to give a key piece of evidence to counter the defense’s claim that Jackson self-administered the fatal 25mg dose of propofol through an IV catheter in his leg. After pursuing a strategy in which the defense intended to portray Jackson as having taken the deadly dose of propofol by himself when Murray was out of the room, the doctor’s legal team pivoted last week and appeared set on focusing on an allegedly self-administered overdose of lorazepam instead. Once Shafer gives his testimony, the defense will present its case and call an estimated 15 witnesses, which could take the testimony through Friday or next Monday. Related Artists Michael Jackson

Dan Wheldon Mourned By Justin Timberlake

Late Indy racer’s car was sponsored by Timberlake’s William Rast clothing line. By Gil Kaufman Dan Wheldon Photo: Getty Images Justin Timberlake paid tribute Monday (October 17) to late Indy racer Dan Wheldon, who was killed Sunday in a horrific 15-car crash at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Wheldon’s car was sponsored by Timberlake’s clothing line, William Rast, and the two men were said to be friendly. “I was deeply saddened to hear the news on Dan Wheldon’s unfortunate and untimely death,” Timberlake said in a statement. “He was a great driver and a strong supporter of William Rast Racing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family in their time of loss.” British driver Wheldon, 33, the father of two young children with wife Susie Behm, was airlifted to a local hospital in the wake of the crash, which sent his car hurtling through the air after it struck another racer’s vehicle. He was pronounced dead a few hours later. Actress Ashley Judd, who attended the race in support of her husband, driver Dario Franchitti, also paid tribute to Wheldon, writing a memorial poem on her Twitter feed. “As we continue to absorb Dan’s accident — we forget, remember, re-experience shock, denial, anger, pain — I’m reminded of a favorite poem,” she wrote before quoting John Donne’s “Holy Sonnet 10”: “DEATH be not proud, though some have called thee Mighty and dreadfull, for, thou art not so, For, those, whom thou think’st, thou dost overthrow, Due not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill me. From rest & sleepe, which but thy pictures be, Much pleasure then from thee, much more must flow, And soonest our best men with thee doe goe, Rest of their bones, and soules deliverie. One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally, And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die.” The other drivers in the race took five laps in Wheldon’s honor following the crash, which ended the contest.
