Selena Gomez Is ‘Doing Well,’ Says Tour Opener Christina Grimmie

By Christina Garibaldi Christina Grimmie Photo: MTV News Selena Gomez gave everyone a scare on Friday when she was hospitalized for nausea and a headache after an appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” Among those anxiously asking after her health was Gomez’s pal and the opening act on her upcoming tour, Christina Grimmie, who is happy to report that the singer is doing fine. “I texted her and asked if she was OK,” Grimme told MTV News on Monday (June 13). “I talked to her mom and [she] said she’s doing well.” Grimmie has become a close friend of both Gomez and her family ever since the Disney star’s parents came across Grimmie’s YouTube channel. The 17-year-old up-and-comer’s covers of pop songs from Lady Gaga to Nelly have made her an Internet sensation — her videos have been viewed more than 142 million times to date. But after Selena’s stepdad, Brian Teefey, messaged Grimmie’s brother, her career began to take off for real. “My brother texted me during math class and said, ‘OK, so I think Selena’s parents are trying to contact you,’ ” she recalled. “Obviously, my first reaction was like, ‘Come on now,’ but it was from Selena’s [YouTube] channel. So we got together, and that’s how I got hooked up with her.” Now, Gomez’s parents, Mandy and Brian Teefey are Grimmie’s managers, her debut EP, Find Me , drops via iTunes at midnight on Monday, and she’s slated to hit the road next month with Selena Gomez & the Scene and All Star Weekend for a summer tour. “My sound right now is pop-synthy-dance. I’m very much a rocker chick; I like to throw in some rock,” Grimmie said of her album. “Hopefully, my sound will evolve into something even bigger and better, but right now I’m thrilled with my album.” And while her career gets going, Grimmie is still looking to Selena as an example of how to handle the early stages of fame. “She’s been great,” Grimmie gushed of Gomez. “I can’t explain it — she was in my place at one point, but what I’ve learned from her is, just to keep going.” Related Artists Selena Gomez

Is Justin Beiber About To Be A Teen Dad???

We hope this isn’t the case, but facts are definitely pointing to Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez’ puppy love having gotten a little too real. On Friday, TMZ reported that Selena was rushed to the hospital in NYC on Thursday night, following her appearance on “The Tonight Show”. Sources tell us … Gomez was feeling horrible during and after the show, complaining of nausea and a severe headache. She was taken to a Los Angeles area hospital and is still there, undergoing tests. We’re told the exact cause of her illness is not yet known. She then proceeded to cancel a Friday night performance, while still not saying if what had landed her in the hospital was a stomach virus, food poisoning, exhaustion or any of the countless excuses young stars use when they randomly go to the hospital. Singer/actress is ‘undergoing routine tests’ after being admitted to the hospital following a ‘Tonight Show’ appearance. By Jocelyn Vena Selena Gomez (file) Photo: Toby Canham/ Getty Images Shortly after taping an appearance on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” on Thursday, Selena Gomez was taken to the hospital, MTV News has confirmed. “Last night after Selena’s appearance on ‘The Tonight Show,’ she wasn’t feeling well and was taken to the hospital,” Gomez’s rep said in a statement to MTV News. “She is currently undergoing routine tests.” The news was first reported by TMZ , which said the singer/actress had been suffering from nausea and a headache before going to a Los Angeles-area hospital. Further information about her illness is unknown. During her interview , which aired Thursday night, Gomez, wearing a little maroon dress, opened up about growing up with a single mom. “She was a chameleon, my mom, because she was a single mom,” she said. “She basically raised me and had to work a lot of jobs. She did a lot of theater, though; she never did television. I loved watching my mom.” Does her mom approve of beau Justin Bieber? “Yes [she met Justin]. He passed the test,” she said, giggling. Other hot topics included appearing on the covers of magazines, getting her driver’s license, getting into a fender bender and her love of fellow guest Jim Carrey’s movies. Gomez was on the show to promote her new flick ” Monte Carlo .” She’s also set to release an album this year. People reports that the singer’s appearance in Santa Monica on Friday has been canceled. No, she wasn’t stumbling out of a nightclub or caught wearing a skirt and no underwear — rather, the pop superstar was photographed buying stuff at Target. “I’m spending a few weeks out in L.A. ’cause I have video shoots and stuff to do so I needed to go buy a record player and they have really good ones at Target,” she explained to Jay Leno when she stopped by “The Tonight Show” on Tuesday night. “I’ve been listening to a lot of music on vinyl. It makes it an event.” During her interview, Swift also admitted that she’s been spinning some unexpected tunes. “I listen to everything. Right now I’m listening to a lot of 50 Cent and Nicki Minaj and Keri Hilson and Rihanna,” she revealed. “I’m listening to a lot of rap, hip-hop music right now.” Swift may have love for hip-hop, but on Sunday night she was honored for her work in country music when she was awarded the Entertainer of the Year prize at the Academy of Country Music Awards. “I am still really just blown away and so excited that the fans have been so nice to me,” she explained to Leno. “It’s been a really good week. We came back from our tour in Europe and Asia and we had one day in Nashville. Nashville’s where I live and I love it more than anywhere in the world and one of the reasons for that is because in Nashville, country music award shows are like the Super Bowl. I was out and about on my day off … and everywhere I would go someone would tap me on the shoulder [and wish me good luck].” Swift admitted that she did have a good omen the night of the ceremony … she saw her lucky number, 13, pop up mid-show. “The night of the award show they were announcing the nominees for Album of the Year. And they showed Kenny Chesney … and as they’re playing a clip of his video it shows a football player running towards the screen with a ’13’ on his jersey… and it ended up being good [for me],” she explained. And, while it doesn’t seem like Swift will slow down anytime soon in terms of her music career, she told Leno that she does have a backup plan: haircutting. “Because we were on the tour for two months… you’re on the road and you get bored,” she recalled. “So I cut [my bandmate’s] hair [and] she looked awesome and so I started cutting all the people on the road’s hair.” Would you let Taylor cut your hair? D.A. Still Investigating Lindsay Lohan For That Rehab Assault Incident Too

If Lindsay Lohan, who will stand trial for felony grand theft , thought her legal problems couldn’t get worse, another past brush with the law has resurfaced. Police are reigniting their investigation into allegations that Lohan attacked Betty Ford staffer Dawn Holland late last year. Remember that melee in rehab ? We know, it’s hard to keep LiLo and her alleged felonies straight. The old days (December) of rehabbin’ it in Palm Springs . The Riverside County D.A.’s Office sent investigators to meet with witnesses who were with Lindsay on December 12, during her tussle with Dawn Holland. Cops told the witnesses they were conducting the investigation because the D.A. is still deciding whether to pursue criminal assault charges against Lohan. Officials want to know if the witness could testify if it was Lindsay or Dawn who was the “aggressor” during that infamous night when the two got into it. Accounts differ, but reports say LiLo came back to rehab past curfew, Holland asked her to take a breathalyzer, LiLo refused, and blows were exchanged. Holland’s story and level of cooperation have shifted a lot, and the witnesses in the case have not given the D.A. an air-tight case. But it’s not over … yet.

I’ve always wanted to do something about all natural disasters, and I realized now is my big opportunity where I can really help. On props from Gaga : That’s so cool! I feel so star-struck, even though I haven’t met her. It’s so surreal, it’s so crazy. I was just listening to “Born this Way.” I really love all of her songs, I have almost every song of hers on my iPod and I think she’s really a lyrical genius. Her songs are just so upbeat and fun and catchy. On how she parties : Just really being with friends and having fun. Dancing — that’s really what I do at parties. I dance and I hang out with friends. That’s my partying. On her favorite artists : Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Rihanna… Justin Bieber I find an inspiration overall: I love his music, he’s adorable and I love that he’s so young and so big. And Rihanna, how she came out of the Chris Brown thing so strong, that is amazing to me. On future songs: Dance anthem-like stuff, very teen-like pop songs, stuff like that.
