Hi! My name is Nicole and I’m from Toronto, Canada. I am fortunate enough to be writing my fourth Bieber experience. Justin was in Toronto for the MMVA’s on Friday June 15 th – Monday June 18 th , so my friends and I got a hotel for the weekend, which just happened to me beside Justin’s. On Saturday morning after checking in, we noticed a big crowd around a hotel, after waiting for about an hour, Justin walks out with Selena and gets in the car. He drove past us slowly with the window down, waving and saying hi to all of us, touching everyone’s hands. That night was Alfredo’s birthday, which was celebrated at a popular Toronto club, which we were also at, supporting DJ Tay James. After a great and unforgettable night out with the crew, we went back to the hotel to catch up on the loss of sleep we had. Sunday was the MMVA’s, which Justin performed at and did incredible. At this point, we lost hope in meeting Justin, and decided to just forget about it, and have an amazing night at Perez Hilton’s after party. We knew that the next morning Justin had an event in NYC, which is only a one-hour flight from Toronto. We figured Monday morning would be our last chance to meet Justin. We wanted to wake up super early, until none of our alarms went off, so we rushed to pack our bags, clean the room, and get ready. We went next-door to Justin’s hotel and waited about two hours, until we saw Bruce. We then saw Kenny and Alfredo bring down luggages and put them in a van. We knew something was up. A few minutes later, Justin and Selena come outside and put their stuff in their car. Selena jumped right into the car and so we thought Justin would do the same. All of a sudden he disappears and no one knows where he went. About 2 minutes later he walks out from behind the car and says hi to everyone, and tells us that he wanted to take a picture with every single one of us. After getting my picture, I told him about the Toronto Buyout my friends and I were having the weekend after, he replied with, “A buyout?! Buyouts are AWESOME!” with a huge smile on his face.  He was saying hi to every single fan, asking them how they were, and ended it with a huge hug. As he was with other fans, my friend and I were just talking to Kenny, while waiting for Justin to finish. I’ve never experienced Justin this humble towards us before, out of all the encounters I’ve had with Justin. He was in such a great mood, even though he had a flight to catch, he was very focused on meeting us and making our dreams come true . Before he left, he shouted, “Did everyone get a picture? I want to make sure everyone got one before I leave.” How sweet of him! He was truly generous and thankful for us. I was also lucky enough to get meet & greets for Justin’s Believe tour, so Justin… see you in November! Thank you for everything that you do! -@NicoleCampea Read more: Hi! REVIEW: Take This Waltz Hums to the Conflicts of the Heart

Take This Waltz is an unusually kind film about infidelity — not because it sidesteps or shortchanges heartbreak, but because it doesn’t let any one of its characters bear the full burden of blame. That such a thing needs to or should even be assigned in this scenario is beside the point, as the film defers to the vagueries of the human heart and the way we can, despite our better judgment, form a connection with someone that can’t easily be set aside. It’s tempting to glibly connect this clear-eyed empathy with the fact that  Take This Waltz is Canadian and somehow inherently prone to niceness — it’s set in a rosy version of Toronto in which the characters all live in charmingly shabby chic houses and sporadically work in quirky jobs. But what it actually comes from, I think, is that the film is the sophomore feature of actress-turned-director Sarah Polley, who constructs her central love triangle with a determinedly feminine perspective and places all of the choice on her female protagonist Margot, played with typical grace by Michelle Williams. Margot wants anything but to have to make a difficult call, especially one that will result in someone getting hurt. One of the film’s first scenes finds her visiting the living history museum of the Fortress of Louisbourg for work and getting pulled in front of a crowd by costumed, in-character staffers to help with a flogging. “Put your back into it!” yells a man from the crowd when she ineffectually flails at the prisoner, clearly mortified. Later, she ends up sitting next to the heckler on the plane. His name is Daniel (Luke Kirby), and he’s just watched her board in a wheelchair despite not having needed one before, leading her to confess that she pretends at airports because of her terror of missed connections, something born not out of a need not to miss a flight but because, as she puts it, “I’m afraid of wondering if I’ll miss it. I don’t like being in between things.” Margot will, however, spend the movie in between things — between Daniel, who turns out to live across the street (“Shit!” she mutters when she finds out), and Lou (Seth Rogen), the husband of five years with whom she shares a loving if childlike and seemingly no longer passionate relationship. Margot loves Lou — the two tussle like kids and talk adoring about the terrible violence they’re going to do one another (“I’m going to put your spleen through a meat grinder,” Lou sighs) — but she may not be in love with him any longer, and she has an undeniable heated spark with Daniel, an artist who pulls a rickshaw and who watches her with guarded longing. Take This Waltz , which was also written by Polley,   has moments of overdetermined dialogue — the line about airport connections is one, and another finds Margot describing Lou, who’s a cookbook writer, as “a really good cook, if you like chicken.” It’s stronger in its moments of wordless sensuality, from its opening scene in which Margot makes muffins, the camera drifting to her bare feet and then her face as she leans it against the over glass. Daniel offers to take Margot and Lou downtown in his rickshaw when they’re headed out to celebrate their anniversary, and we track her gaze across the muscles of his arms and back, catching his eye in the side-view mirror. The draw of the flesh is not inconsiderable, and  Take This Waltz doesn’t make it so easy as being a kind of passing temptation, an indulgence to be resisted. Margot and Lou have a stable and relatively happy life together — we see them at home and in the company of their friends and family, including Lou’s sister Geraldine (a memorable Sarah Silverman), a recovering alcoholic. It’s a lot to trade for attraction, no matter how significant, but the film feasibly puts the two on a level, leaving Margot to navigate the decision with growing distress as she tries to avoid Daniel, only to go out of her way to run into him, and then flees back to Lou professing her love and fear. Kirby makes his improbable swain just dangerous enough, the embodiment of the promise of the new, while Rogen shows off his dramatic chops as a man who’s obviously never given thought during his time with Margot of what things would be like without her. But the weight of the film rests on Williams, and she finds a poignant and quiet agony in her character as she realizes she’s the only one who can make this decision and must deal with the consequences either way, after time and again trying to push it off or onto other people. It’s a world of bittersweet sophistication from Polley, and one that accepts that, as a stranger reminds Margot at a swim class, “new things get old,” but that doesn’t make them any less appealing.

Hi, I’m Julia. I was lucky enough to meet Justin this past…

Hi, I’m Julia. I was lucky enough to meet Justin this past Decemeber while he was in Toronto for his Christmas show. Here’s my second encounter with Justin, and best one yet. My friends and I decided to get a hotel for MMVA weekend and were hoping to meet Justin when he arrived. Unfortunately, Friday night I was working when he flew in. Some people I knew from high school had the chance to meet him around the city , like at Pizza Pizza. They were so lucky! On Saturday, my friends and I had already planned to go out to a club DJ Tay James was hosting. We got on the guestlist once it was announced, not thinking of anything other than having a good time. Saturday was a night to remember. Not only did Tay DJ, but the crew, Jeremy, as well as Justin AND Selena came. I freaked out when I saw them. When “All Around The World” came on, EVERYONE went crazy. Selena got up off the couch and started to sing and dance with Justin. They were there for at least half an hour and then left. We didn’t think this night could get any better. Since it also happened to be Alfredo’s birthday, it was an awesome time and we all hung out for a while. Finally, the day of MMVA’s came. Earlier in the day we waited outside his hotel but didn’t even get one glimpse of him. There was way too many fans, paparazzi and he must have been in his hotel room doing radio, press, and rehearsals. This was really sad for all of us. We just wanted to at least see him somewhere. After waiting so long, we decided to go to the red carpet car line up to see Justin . We thought he would roll down the window to say hi since it was only 6 of us, but I don’t think he wanted to ruin the surprise for the red carpet of having Jazzy and Jaxon with him and Selena. All of us were quite disappointed because almost all of the weekend we just wanted to just see him. Finally, Monday morning came and we knew Justin would be going to NYC for his show. We had less than 5 hours asleep and got ready for 9 a.m. to go wait outside of his hotel. At around 10 a.m. there was a lot of commotion. We saw Moshe come back from Starbucks with Bruce and an extra drink. I wonder who it was for? He brought it into the hotel and then came back outside to see two fans who wanted pictures with him. About 10 fans were there and we kept seeing Moshe, Bruce (Justin’s grandfather) and Kenny. We saw luggage being put into a black suburban so we figured it would be Justin’s car. About 10 more fans came around 11 a.m. My friends and I were getting nervous because 20 people is quite a crowd. Luckily, minutes after 11am, Justin and Selena’s car pulled up. Selena went into the car right away and we thought Justin was too… We look again, and Justin handed his bag over to Moshe to put in the car and said, “I’m coming to take pictures!” He greeted ALL of us. He took time with each and every fan making sure they got a good picture and was so sweet. My friend Nicole and I told him that we were having a buyout that upcoming Saturday (@Toronto_Buyout), along with our friend Vanessa (@vanessaalove who was sadly at work). He perked up when he heard that and said, “A  buyout?! BUYOUTS are awesome!” I got my picture with Justin and he wasn’t rushing me or anyone. He just took his time and was SO polite. None of us were freaking out. We were all calm and took our turns, which probably made this a whole lot easier! I took pictures for about 8 other fans after me on their cameras and on mine to send to them. Justin and I kept making eye contact and now everything feels like such a blur. I keep asking myself, “Did that morning really happen?!” After I got my picture with Justin, I took one with Kenny! They were about to go to the airport to fly out to NYC. I’m honestly so thankful this happened. It was just perfect. Justin, if you see this, THANK YOU so much for taking the time to take pictures and talk to us. It made my day and this whole weekend was SO worth it. I LOVE YOU.  -@juliaaa_xo Original post: Hi, I’m Julia. I was lucky enough to meet Justin this past…

Akon Passed On Signing Drake, Kardinal Offishall Says

‘It’s one of those things that worked out beautifully for Drake with YMCMB. He’s got a good camp,’ Kardi tells ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Drake Photo: Akon sure has an ear for top-notch talent; just ask T-Pain and Lady Gaga . Still, even the best music execs miss out from time to time, and on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live,” Kon’s buddy Kardinal Offishall revealed the “Locked Up” singer’s most notable miss. “The biggest one that he passed on, I told him about Drake early,” Kardi revealed. “I said, ‘Kon, this kid is a T.V. star… and this kid is crazy.’ ” Kardinal, like Drizzy, hails from Toronto, but was able to establish himself as a notable rap talent years before Drake broke out with 2009’s So Far Gone. “I had met him years before he started with his first mixtape,” Offishall said. “The thing that’s dope about Drake is that I remember, like he was just hungry because he wanted to make that transition from the acting to the rapping.” Kardi recalled a specific meeting where the OVO spitter played him an early mixtape, which he was instantly impressed with. The two even collaborated on “The Last Hope,” a song off of Drake’s 2007 mixtape Comeback Season. It would take a number of years, but by the time Drake officially arrived with So Far Gone, there was little doubt that he was going to be huge. “After he blew, I went back and said, ‘See Kon, I told you,’ ” Kardinal said. “But it’s one of those things that worked out beautifully for Drake with YMCMB. He’s got a good camp.” Where do you think Drake’s career would be today if he had signed with Akon? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Drake Akon

Radiohead Postpone European Shows After Stage Collapse

Band postpones shows in Italy, Germany and Switzerland after a stage collapse killed its drum tech and destroyed some of its light show and equipment. By Gil Kaufman Radiohead’s Thom Yorke Photo: Radiohead have been forced to postpone a string of seven European tour dates in the continuing fallout from a June 17 stage collapse
at Toronto’s Downsview Park that took the life of their drum tech, Scott Johnson.
“As you will probably have heard the roof over the stage collapsed at our show in Toronto killing crew member Scott Johnson and injuring three other crew members,” read a statement from the band released on Thursday (June 21). “The collapse also destroyed the light show – this show was unique and will take many weeks to replace. The collapse also caused serious damage to our backline, some elements of which are decades old and therefore hard to replace.” In addition to grieving for their friend and those injured in the accident, the band has been forced to deal with “many practical considerations” that have caused them to postpone a series of shows. Among those affected is a June 30 date at the Hippodrome Capanelle in Rome, as well as six other European dates in Italy, Germany and Switzerland that run through July 9. The band said they are going to try to reschedule the show, with the goal of naming new dates for them on June 27. The current plan is to start playing live again on July 10 at Les Arenes in Nimes, France. Inspectors from Ontario’s Ministry of Labour have been inspecting the wreckage to determine the cause of the collapse but have yet to release their findings. Related Artists Radiohead
