Drake Says He And Lil Wayne Are Planning A Joint Album

‘I went up to Rikers, and me and Wayne agreed that there will be a Lil Wayne/ Drake album,’ he tells MTV’s ‘Sucker Free.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Drake and Lil Wayne Photo: the305.com A Young Angel and Young Lion LP? It’s finally in the works, according to Drake. The Toronto MC said he and Lil Wayne spoke about a joint album when he visited the incarcerated star last week in prison. “I went up to Rikers, and me and Wayne agreed that there will be a Lil Wayne/ Drake album,” Drake told DJ Envy on MTV’s “Sucker Free.” ” … There’s some things I’m excited for in my life — I’m excited to go perform certain places — but [this project] will probably be one of the most exciting things in my life, because we make music on a different level. It’s just so fun, so comfortable. A whole album? To think about all the things we can do, especially if we’re gonna do 15 songs. Me and him don’t like to do 12, 13 [songs]. We want to do 15, 16. Yeah, Lil Wayne and Drake album.” Wayne is only featured once on Drake’s debut album, Thank Me Later, which drops June 15. The Cash Money superstar and Drizzy collaborated on a number of projects in the past, including Drake’s mixtapes Comeback Season and So Far Gone, in addition to the Young Money compilation released last year. But this will be the first time the two MCs pair up for their own project. Last year, while on the verge of inking his deal, Drake told MTV News about his career ambitions and said Lil Wayne would be a part of them for a long time. “I plan to work with Wayne for the rest of my career, so I think it’s a smart career move,” he said. “You know, everybody else [on Young Money] will hopefully work out the situations, get the right people on the album. I think it was important for me to show him that I believed in him as much as he believed in me. Because a lot of months, he stuck his neck out there for me, you know with the VMAs [where Lil Wayne rapped Drake’s verse from ‘Money to Blow’ at the beginning of his performance of ‘Misunderstood’] and then ‘Ransom,’ and all the songs that we put out. And the things he would say in interviews, he really put himself out there for me. So I think it was only just and fair to show him that I feel the same way.” For more Drake, check him out with DJ Envy on the road for Sucker Free Summer at Hartford, Connecticut’s Hot Jam 9 this Sunday at noon on MTV2. The Farmers’ Market of the Future

Image credit: City of Toronto Years ago, the City of Toronto knocked down a lovely old market building to create a one storey concrete shed of a market that was a perfect embodiment of Toronto at the time: cheap, expedient and ugly. But now the city has greater ambitions, St. Lawrence Market is a going concern, and one storey buildings don’t have a long life in a booming downtown. The City ran a limited competition and the judges unanimously chose a winner: Rogers Stirk Harbour and Adamsons Associates “Red Team” entry…. Read the full story on TreeHugger

LivingHomes and Nexterra Green Homes Team Up To Do Modern Green Prefab Right

TreeHugger has been a big fan of Steve Glenn and his Living Homes since it started . But when I first heard that they were coming to Canada I was a bit dubious, after a few years of working in the business here. I had concerns about the level of interest in modern prefab and the suitability of the Living Homes designs for the Canadian climate. Now, having seen what Gary Lands and Barry Campbell of Nexterra Green Homes are planning, I realize that I was completely wrong. They have addressed every one of the proble… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Drake, The Game Say Album Leaks Can Be A Good Thing

Chamillionaire, Paul Wall also agree that artists can’t blame poor sales on early bootlegs. By Shaheem Reid Chamillionaire and Paul Wall Photo: MTV News Drake has been anointed by many fans and journalists alike as hip-hop’s new golden master of ceremonies, but he is not exempt from the same problem plaguing most musicians these days. Bootleggers leaked his much-anticipated Thank Me Later LP earlier this week, but the Toronto MC took it stride, tweeting, “I gave away free music for years so we’re good over here.” Drake told TheLifeFiles.com that the word of mouth won’t hurt him. “It’s a honor to make this dream come true for Wayne, and I’m excited to start my journey,” he said of the new album, which he previewed for the press on Wednesday. “I always say, if I would have put out an album that was poor quality, I think the leaks would have hurt me. Because a lot of the feedback has been great, it can only help.” The Game spoke about the inevitability of leaking when he stopped by the MTV Newsroom on Wednesday. “Every album is getting leaked from now until the duration of hip-hop,” he said. “It’s just once it hits the plant, or once a radio station gets their promo, somebody is gonna leak the album. You can look forward to it being leaked a week early or whatever. It’s gonna get leaked.” Chamillionaire and Paul Wall weighed in as well. And though they agreed that an MC’s ire is definitely raised when his album leaks early, for the most part, it doesn’t hurt too much. “You can’t not be bothered by that,” Cham told MTV News. “Because you wonder, is that a sale that I could have made? You hate to see all your hard work that you went to the studio doing. We done seen bootleggers riding 28s. We like, ‘Man, they eating good off of us.’ But we understand; you just gotta give them that music. If it’s dope, they gonna come buy it. I don’t think Drake or anybody else should worry if it’s dope. If people want it, it’s gonna create enough hype. 50 Cent, even Lil Wayne, everybody suffered from leaks and some people benefited from it.” Wall agreed that leaks can do as much good as they do harm. “If the album don’t sell good — that’s just not Drake, this is every artist — then [they say], ‘Oh, it got bootlegged.’ If it does great, then they’ll be like, ‘Oh, it does great ’cause the bootleg got out, and it let everybody know this was legit.’ It goes both ways.” Game suggested that any artists who complain that leaks hurt their sales should stop making excuses and make better music. “Lil Wayne showed me that,” Game said. “His album leaked four weeks before Tha Carter III was supposed to come out, and he sold a million the first week. That’s just an excuse. … It’s no longer acceptable because people are still selling.” Do you think leaks can help as much as they hurt? Talk about it in the comments. Drake’s Thank Me Later Leak: Why Bloggers Aren’t Posting New Songs

‘Enough is enough,’ one blogger tells MTV News about the proliferation of leaked hip-hop albums. By Shaheem Reid Drake Photo: Rahman Dukes/MTV News Drake might be a budding superstar, but he’s gotta eat. That seems to be the consensus on the major hip-hop blogs, many of which have decided not to post more songs — many of them unfinished — from the Toronto MC’s forthcoming Thank Me Later LP, which leaked early Wednesday (June 2). Many times in the past — with Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3, Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III and Kanye West’s 808s and Heartbreak — we’ve seen blogs post a myriad of songs immediately after the album leaks. While they might not post the entire album, you’d get at least three new joints from it. With Drake, however, most blogs have decided to ignore Thank Me Later ‘s early, unplanned release. “Enough is enough,” Andrew Barber of FakeShoreDrive.com told MTV News on Wednesday. “I know, for my credibility, we kinda already take enough from the artists. I know it’s a give-and-take relationship, but we already take enough from the artists. At a certain point, you have to take a stand. Most ethical blogs won’t post the album or keep posting [individual songs]. At a certain point, you’re cutting into their sales. Its one thing to post a few songs, but to post every single song, that’s basically pirating. That’s where I draw the line.” “To be fair,” RapRadar.com founder Elliot Wilson said, “I think a lot of the sites, when the album fully leaks, they don’t put up the full album leaks. They kinda slowed down on the leaks and they’ll make the bold statement, they’ll decide, ‘This is the last leak we’re gonna put up from the project.’ ” Sure enough, on Wednesday morning, NahRight.com posted a CD-quality version of the Drake/Jay-Z lyrical throwdown “Light Up.” At the end of the post a message read: “Last Thank Me Later leak we’re posting here. June 15th.” “You’ve gotta credit Drake, especially with NahRight and other sites,” Wilson added. “He was well-connected to those guys. You do form relationships, and again, as a rap fan, you sort of think a lot of these bloggers are fans at the end of the day. They don’t want to hurt his sales. You start looking in the mirror — we got excited by [Jay Electronica’s] ‘Exhibit C.’ When it went to iTunes, we was rallying people to go buy it legally just to support the movement of this new energy in hip-hop. I think those people are taking stock and they want Drake to do well also. He comes from them. He has a line in the new album about the backpack guy who’s getting to this level. He did his due diligence. He went through the blogs. So much of So Far Gone ‘s initial ascent was from the blogs. In terms of good will, they don’t wanna come back now and do anything they feel could possibly hurt him.” NahRight is part of a conglomerate of blogs known as the New Music Cartel: YouHeardThatNew.com , 2DopeBoyz.com , DaJaz1.com , OnSmash.com , and XclusiveZones.net are also affiliated. The NMC has become known as the leading source of new hip-hop music to hit the Internet, even getting tracks before some top DJs. “I think many of the top blogs posted the memorable or anticipated tracks from the album for their readers but refused to post more,” XclusiveZone’s Mr. X said. “It’s not only because of Drake — I can speak for myself and possibly the NMC, we don’t post full albums. We give the readers a sample of what they want to hear but tell them to support [artists], and always plug in the release date. But with Drake, because the anticipation was so high, everyone expected us to post the full album. We want to see him go gold or platinum the first week. We aren’t trying to take from someone’s plate — we’re all trying to eat together. We never condone unauthorized leaks but if something does leak, it’s best to take it and move on. Look at Drake’s response to his album leaking : ‘I gave away free music for years so we’re good over here.’ That made me respect him even more. It’s better than crying about it. The track is already out. Enjoy the free promotion, I guess.” So the question is, will Drake’s leak hurt his album sales? Perhaps not — there hasn’t been a single hip-hop LP in recent memory that didn’t doesn’t get leaked. In Drake’s case, he may be one of the lucky ones: Some artists’ albums get leaked as far as a month out (in the case of Lil Wayne’s Rebirth , four months ). Thank Me Later hit the black market less than two weeks from its June 15 release date. “I don’t think it’s gonna hurt him,” Wilson said. “I think it’s close enough to the release date. There’s a lot of people that want to support him. This is a moment that we’ve been waiting for. I’ve been trying to figure out what this feels like and what makes this different. Even though this is a debut album, it’s not like 50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ or Kanye’s College Dropout, in the sense of ‘this person really heated up the game.’ We all kind of like wanted to be a part of this guy celebrating and reaching that level. I feel like with this Drake situation, it’s kinda similar to Wayne where he’s already killed it on a lot of levels. He’s on so many hits, this is kind of like his ascension. If this record does get embraced the way people think it will be, it will [definitely make him] the next star — which reminds me of the way Tha Carter III went down, where Wayne set the table of him being the next dude but you needed the album to really prove it. Even though Drake is unproven as far as putting out a debut album, he’s been part of so much success already.” What do you think about Drake’s album leaking? Has this gone on long enough? Church Sued Victim of Convicted Sex Abuser

A Catholic diocese in Canada sued the victim of a convicted pedophile priest, driving the victim to attempt suicide several times, according to a newspaper report published Sunday. The church's move would prove to be a successful tactic to force the victim to settle out of court. And some victims of Catholic church sex abuse say the tactic is a common one. John Caruso, a victim of convicted Roman Catholic priest James Kneale, sued the church for $8.6 million over sexual abuse he suffered at Kneale's hands as an altar boy in the 1980s. The church responded with a “legal thunderbolt,” reports Mary Ormsby at the Toronto Star: Kneale and the diocese countersued Caruso’s mother and father. They claimed the parents were negligent in failing to get counselling and medical help for their teenaged son and that Caruso’s father regularly beat him, compounding his psychological troubles. Story continues below… The legal hardball shattered the once-devout family. The Star reports that the strain of the lawsuit pushed Caruso, a resident of Fort Erie, Ontario, to attempt suicide several times. Caruso's mother, Claire, died last year as the legal battle continued to rage. “She took it to her grave thinking she was part of the problem,’’ Caruso told the Star. He settled out of court, for an undisclosed amount, four months after his mother's death. Ormsby reports that the church's tactics in the legal battle were “not unusual.” “Despite the church’s pledge to handle victims with compassion — a position repeated this month by Pope Benedict — it too often plays a game of courtroom chicken with stall tactics, hostile discovery sessions and intrusive psychological probes that unnerve vulnerable clients, say victims and their lawyers,” Ormsby writes. On Sunday, The Associated Press reported that Pope Benedict XVI, while still a cardinal, refused to defrock an American priest who had been convicted on multiple counts of sexual abuse, “simply because the cleric wouldn't agree to it.” (More @ Link) added by: Omnomynous

Michelle "Bombshell" McGee: Nude For Infidelity

She’s already the poster child for infidelity. Why shouldn’t Michelle “Bombshell” McGee make money off that image and help sell … extramarital affairs? The original Jesse James mistress has struck a lucrative deal to promote a website dedicated to people having affairs … and she will be plugging naked. And we thought we’d heard everything. Michelle “Bombshell” McGee arrived in Toronto this weekend to shoot commercials for AshleyMadison.com, which unites married cheaters everywhere. Appropriately, the shoot is at a strip club. That was her job before she became a professional mistress, and the ads will feature Michelle McGee nude . Somehow, this is supposed to encourage having an affair? No word if Michelle is still in talks to star on Celebrity Cheaters with Jamie Jungers, one of Tiger Woods’ harem of waitresses, models and porn stars. Bombshell will make about $500 per hour for the shoot, but sources say that she’ll also make a percentage of all new traffic she brings in for the site. Hey, if Michelle has taught us anything – with her actions and her insane, unsolicited comments every effing day – it’s that men will spread their seed . Monogamy, schmonogamy. Guys are gonna do what (and who) they’re gonna do, it’s just how they’re made. Might as well capitalize on that action.

Jay-Z Schools Drake In ‘Light Up,’ New Leaked Song

‘Godfather’-referencing track from Drake’s forthcoming Thank Me Later hit the Internet late Wednesday. By Jayson Rodriguez Drake Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images Drake’s long-awaited collaboration with Jay-Z, “Light Up,” has finally arrived, leaked onto the Web late Wednesday (May 26) by mixtape DJ the Evil Empire. In the song, from Drake’s forthcoming Thank Me Later LP (due June 15), the young MC rhymes about his fast ascent to fame while Jay-Z, the elder statesman, gives the So Far Gone star a lesson in living life on the throne. “But I just wanna tell the truth/ Before one of these haters loads a couple shells and shoots,” Drake spits. “The sh– feels like when Fredro Starr/ Was in ‘Sunset Park’ stunting hard in his yellow goose, yeah/ And I’m a motherf—ing list target/ But a target nonetheless, and I just started/ Was that directed at moi? Can’t be/ They must be talking to themselves — Hov, hands free.” Later, the Brooklyn MC talks directly to the Toronto upstart, referencing conspirators in “The Godfather” and detailing how his rise will bring detractors, and exactly how they’ll attempt to bring him down. “Drake, here’s how they gonna come at you/ With silly rap feuds trying to distract you/ In disguise, in the form of a favor/ The Barzini meet, watch for the traitors/ Uh, I done see it all, done it all/ That’s why none of these dum-dums could dun him off.” Earlier this year, Drake described the track as being similar to the conversations he has with the legendary rapper. “It’s just me and Jay both rapping on it for an extended period of time,” Drake told MTV News in March. “It’s real rap. I do sing on it, but it’s just on the hook. It’s great. The perspective, the dynamic on the track — it’s me and Jay’s relationship on the song, basically. When you hear it, people will be like, ‘Oh man.’ That’s how we are — just the two. He definitely has guided me a lot, as far as his words and his advice. We have a real funny rapport. I always enjoy my conversations with Jay.” Last last year, Drake revealed how “Light Up” came together, explaining how the drum-laden production made him want to recruit Jay-Z for the number. The two collaborated previously on Hov’s The Blueprint 3’s “Off That,” but Drake was only featured on the hook. “When I heard that beat, the drums that they had come up with, it was like, ‘Man, this is a moment, this sounds like where I’m at in my life,’ ” Drake said. “So, we took it and [producer Noah “40” Shebib what he does to pieces of music that I see potential in — he took it to the next spot.” “Light Up” is the most recent track from Thanks Me Later to leak this week, joining “Fireworks,” his Alicia Keys collaboration that popped up online on Wednesday.
