‘@CeeLoGreen will no longer be a part of #LOUDtour due 2 commitment with ‘The Voice’,’ singer tweeted. By Jocelyn Vena J. Cole Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Rihanna has found a new man to be her official tour opener. After Cee Lo Green had to drop out of the singer’s Loud tour due to other commitments, the “California King Bed” designated J. Cole as the “Forget You” singer’s replacement. Rihanna announced via Twitter that rapper J. Cole, who was already on the road with the singer, will fill Green’s shoes as her main warm-up act on the tour, which began this month. “#GOODNEWS @JColeNC is our new official opener!” she wrote on Tuesday night. “@CeeLoGreen will no longer be a part of #LOUDtour due 2 commitment with ‘The Voice’ #Cantmissit.” Green had to leave when his schedule became too crammed with other commitments, including his judging gig on the hit NBC talent competition “The Voice,” which is also presenting a tour this summer. “He always puts 100 percent into his work and with the requirements and time commitment to ‘The Voice,’ on top of heading back into the recording studio and an upcoming book, he feels that he wouldn’t give his fans the show that they deserve,” Green’s spokesperson said, according to The New York Times . Rihanna’s Loud tour travels the U.S. through July 24 before heading to Europe in August. It’s set to wrap up in late December. There was a similar switch-up for Rihanna’s Last Girl on Earth Tour in 2010, when Nicki Minaj pulled out at the last minute and was quickly replaced with Travie McCoy. Ke$ha also opened on that tour. As the ‘American Idol’ runner-up prepares to tour, she recalls her own fangirl moment with Bieber. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Lauren Alaina backstage with Justin Bieber at the 2011 CMT Music Awards Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage As Lauren Alaina prepares to kick off the American Idols Live! tour on July 6 in Utah, it’s time for her to start imagining life as an artist beyond the confines of a TV competition. As her second-place finish on season 10 proves, she has quite a fanbase, and the tour will give them the chance to see her in person. The thought of meeting supporters had the 16-year-old recalling her own ultimate fangirl experience, meeting Justin Bieber. “Well, I was presenting Sugarland at the CMT Awards, and I found out that Justin Bieber was there,” she explained to MTV News at the “American Idol” tour press day. “And I said I that I wanted to meet him, and I guess the people that I was there with made it happen.” During some down time on the show, she was about to meet Bieber, who took home Collaborative Video of the Year with Rascal Flatts that night, but first she had to battle a fashion mishap. “I walked up to meet him and he was doing an interview, and then I was just looking at my outfit, and I realized I had a rip in the side of my dress, so I was trying to fix it real fast,” she recalled. “And then someone had told him I had gone over there to meet him, so he came up to me and was like, ‘Hey, I’m Justin.’ … It just kind of set me back. We took a picture and then it was over.” Though it was brief, Lauren wasn’t too disappointed with their encounter. “It was cool just to meet him,” she said. “Everyone wants to meet Justin Bieber and I got to do it, so it was really nice.” While in Nashville, Alaina was greeting her own fans too. “I haven’t had anything weird happen to me, it’s just people recognize me a lot more,” she said. “And I went to Nashville, and I got out on Broadway with Scotty [McCreery] and we were like swarmed in 10 seconds. We didn’t even know if people were going to realize who we were. [And] I mean immediately, as soon as we got out of the car, they recognized us, so that was really cool.” Related Artists Justin Bieber
Yet-unnamed victim ‘remains in serious condition but is expected to recover,’ Tech’s publicist tells MTV News in exclusive statement. By Rob Markman Tech N9ne (file) Photo: Raymond Boyd/ Michael Ochs Archives/ Getty Images Early this morning, a performer on Kansas City, Missouri, rapper Tech N9ne ‘s All 6s and 7s Tour was shot hours after a scheduled concert at Reno, Nevada’s Knitting Factory. According to reports from local news outlet KOLO TV , the victim — who has not yet been indentified — was shot at 1:27 a.m. in an alley outside the venue where the tour buses were parked. Though the victim is still unnamed, MTV News learned through a statement issued by a Strange Music publicist that the man who was shot is not signed to the label, but is a performer for one of the tour’s opening acts. “By all reports, the victim was talking on his phone when he was approached by 6 individuals who had not been in attendance at that evening’s show,” the statement reads. “Shortly after, shots were fired and the victim was struck multiple times. He was rushed to a local hospital where he remains in serious condition but is expected to recover.” Initial reports stated that the shooting took place “right after” Tech’s performance. The statement refutes that claim, saying the incident happened “nearly two hours after the show ended” and was “a random and senseless act of violence.” Police aren’t sure of the motive and believe close to 16 rounds were fired. Tech N9ne’s latest album, All 6s and 7s, was released June 7 and debuted at #4 on the Billboard albums chart . The rapper, along with labelmates Krizz Kaliko, Kutt Calhoun, Jay Rock, MayDay and Stevie Stone, are on an 82-city tour to support the album. Related Artists Tech N9ne
Amy Lee tells MTV News that the band’s new album, due October 4, is full of songs that are ‘painful’ and ‘desperate.’ By James Montgomery Evanescence’s Amy Lee Photo: Getty Images It’s been nearly four years since Evanescence wrapped the tour in support of their last album, The Open Door. In that time, singer Amy Lee has been hard at work doing anything but fronting a globally successful rock act. Sure, she wrote some songs along the way, but mostly, her focus was on being, as she puts it, “a normal person.” And, yes, she enjoyed every minute of it. “I would buy groceries, I thought about teaching kids music … I just needed to get away from it. My entire adult life, until a couple years ago, was all about this,” she told MTV News. “When I just turned 18, I got signed. I quit college, and we just moved into a house together and just started cramming to do whatever we needed to do to make it. And then we went to L.A., and the label had us up there doing artist development for a couple years, and then we were on tour and it went big fast, and then right after touring behind Fallen, we started writing again right away. … I just wanted to be a normal person for a minute, before I was 50 years old. “I got married and we were in the middle of a tour — I had, like, one week off, and then we went straight back on tour — and there was plenty of stuff that went on in that time; there was drama … there’s always freaking drama,” she continued. “So we get towards the end of it, and I was like, ‘Guys, I don’t know about this. I need a break.’ I just wanted to be normal; I didn’t want to think about the next thing for as long as it took.” And considering how hard she worked at avoiding Evanescence, it’s ironic that all it took was a single show with the band — a 2009 warm-up gig for a headlining spot at the Maquin
MMJ were tapped to tour as real-life Electric Mayhem band, a dream trek that was cut at the last minute. By James Montgomery My Morning Jacket’s Patrick Hallahan and Tommy Blankenship Photo: MTV News My Morning Jacket embarked on a rather remarkable run of shows late last year, beginning with a five-night stand at New York’s Terminal 5, where they played their entire studio discography. That momentum continued with a spate of festival gigs , most notably a triumphant mainstage set earlier this month at Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee. But for all of their onstage success, it’s the one tour they didn’t embark on that haunts them to this day … a planned series of shows where they would have doubled as Dr. Teeth’s backing band, Electric Mayhem. For those not in the know, Mayhem is, of course, the rock band made famous on “The Muppet Show,” a ragtag bunch of musicians — lippy Janice on lead guitar, Sgt. Floyd Pepper on bass, the mysterious Zoot on sax, and noted smasher Animal behind the drum kit — fronted by the irrepressible Dr. Teeth (who, it should be noted, is probably not an actual M.D.). And in the lead-up to MMJ’s new Circuital album, the band was in very real negotiations with the folks at the Walt Disney Company (who acquired rights to the Muppet brand in 2004) to record new music for Electric Mayhem, with a full-blown tour to follow. “It all started when we were working on a Muppets project. … We were going to be the band behind the Electric Mayhem band,” bassist “Two Tone” Tommy Blankenship told MTV News. “And so we had started demoing songs at [frontman] Jim [James’] house; two of them ended up on the record, that were kind of Muppet-y, a little wacky. ‘Wonderful,’ ‘Out of My System’ and ‘Friends Again.’ But then that project fell through. And, man, that was a shame.” Of course, My Morning Jacket eventually compartmentalized their disappointment, and finished Circuital instead. And though they’re currently on the road in support of the album (and will be for the foreseeable future), they’ll truly never forgive Disney for killing the tour of their dreams. “It’s so sad though … they were going to release an Electric Mayhem album, and they wanted us to be the band, and then we would go on tour, and they would have all these animatronic Muppets, and we would, like, be behind the stage playing,” drummer Patrick Hallahan explained. “As much as I love Disney’s history, cutting that project — and it doesn’t have to be us, it could’ve been any band — that visual would’ve been amazing.” Should Disney revive MMJ’s Electric Mayhem tour dream? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists My Morning Jacket

Kid Rock hosted the show, which featured everyone from Ludacris and Jason Aldean to Sheryl Crow. By Gil Kaufman Sheryl Crow and Justin Bieber at the 2011 CMT Music Awards Photo: Getty Images You might have done a double-take when you saw the list of winners and guests at Wednesday night’s CMT Music Awards , which included trophies for Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber as well as performances that featured Ludacris and a cover of Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie.” But, yes, this was a country music event. It’s just that some of the hardware handed out at the show hosted by Kid Rock tipped its 10-gallon hat to the ongoing popularity of the pop-infused sound. The biggest example of that cross-over success, Swift, took home one of the top honors, Video of the Year, for her clip “Mine.” She accepted the prize from a stage in Wisconsin, her latest tour stop. “I just want to say thank you and hi to everybody back at the CMT Music Awards,” she said. “I wish I could be there, but I’m hanging out with 15,000 of my closest friends in Milwaukee. I want to thank so many people — all the little kids who are in the video and their families for bringing them to Maine and being in the video. … I don’t know what I did to deserve you guys, but you’ve made so many amazing things happen to me in my life.” Male Video of the Year honors went to “The Voice” judge Blake Shelton for “Who Are You When I’m Not Looking,” while the female video winner was his wife, Miranda Lambert, for her emotional tune “The House That Built Me.” One of the more unusual names on the winners list was Bieber, who snagged Collaborative Video of the Year for his hookup with Rascal Flatts on the tune “That Should Be Me.” “First of all, I just want to say how honored I am to be here … with Rascal Flatts,” Bieber said while accepting his first country award. “How amazing are Rascal Flatts, everybody? I want to thank my mom. I want to thank my family. And I want to thank Rascal Flatts for even jumping on the song with me.” Flatts bassist Jay DeMarcus thanked Bieber right back for bringing the group the “great song,” adding, “It was an honor to be in this video with you. What a talented guy. We appreciate it so much.” Lady Antebellum, another group that has surfed the more country side of the crossover wave, scored Group Video of the Year for “Hello World.” And the Band Perry, an act that many mainstream listeners were first introduced to thanks to “American Idol” runner-up Lauren Alaina, took the USA Weekend Breakthrough Video of the Year prize for “If I Die Young,” as well as the 2011 Nationwide Insurance On Your Side Award. Of course, it wasn’t all awards and honors, there was also a hilarious opening bit in which Swift and Shania Twain killed it in a three-minute “Thelma & Louise” parody. In the clip, the two jump in their convertible and run into a perv played by comedian Ron White, practice shooting their guns and run into “Glee” star Chord Overstreet, who plays the shirtless Brad Pitt character. In addition to a gratuitous Donald Trump cameo, the video also featured Kenny Rogers singing his hit “The Gambler” by the roadside and host Rock hopping into the car with the ladies after getting kicked off his tour bus for partying too hard. There were other highlights, including someone tossing a pair of ladies’ underwear at Rock and Sheryl Crow later admitting she flashed hers while getting up from a stool after performing with the rapper-turned-heartland-rocker. “I’m just gonna address the elephant in the room, because people all over America are tweeting that I was wearing a really short skirt when I sang with Kid Rock — and that when I got up off the stool, I showed my underwear,” Crow joked. “Well, at least you were wearing underwear,” co-presenter Sara Evans said. There was further drama when Twain came out to introduce the male video winner and took a major tumble on a too-slick floor while walking to the stage. She got up quickly and regained her composure, later laughing, “I don’t need a stunt double.” In addition to Rock opening the show with a bit of his hard-hitting “Bawitdaba” (which was cut off in favor of a more country-safe tune named “Till My Dying Day” that he wrote for Wynonna Judd), Ludacris hooked up with Jason Aldean for “Dirt Road Anthem,” the Band Perry played “Love the Way You Lie,” and Lady Antebellum did a bit of Prince’s “Kiss.” “Idol” winner Scotty McCreery was on hand with Alaina to introduce a performance by Sugarland as well. Other winners included Sugarland (Duo Video of the Year for “Stuck Like Glue”), Zac Brown Band and Jimmy Buffett (CMT Performance of the Year for “Margaritaville”) and Shelton (Best Web Video of the Year, “Kiss My Country Ass.”) Related Artists Kid Rock Justin Bieber Taylor Swift
This all started a few weeks before Justin came to Spain. I was looking at the Fan Club here, when suddenly I saw that Justin will be doing a signing in Spain ! I started crying all over the house and quickly called Inés. She did not understand anything because I was so nervous . I repeated it and we said that we had to convince our parents to take us. Her parents didn’t let her so then it was my turn . My mum said: “That day you have school, so no Irene”. I was like: “Butbutbutubutbutbutbut mum, it’s Justin Bieber!”. So everyday I would repeat it 200 times, and finally my parents said okay! My friend Inés also ended up coming with me. When that day arrived, we could not sleep. It was 29-11-10. That morning we went to school while my dad was waiting in the lineup. Finally it was time to go. When we were on the street, we saw LOTS of Beliebers. There was a lot of people, but we were the frist on the queue, so Justin will sign our CDs, and we also bought his bracelets. When Justin arrived we couldn’t stop screaming. He signed Inés first, and then to mine. I said, “Thank you” (yeah, in English, and I’m from Spain). He smiled to me and Kenny said, “Gracias, gracias” ( in Spanish) and I started to scream. Then he sang some songs, and he was very nice! Never say never and you can have a Bieber experience like this too. Thank you Justin, we love you! -@spain_justin Continued here: This all started a few weeks before Justin came to Spain. I…
