Ne-Yo ‘Spreads Love Through Music’ in Japan

‘We’re definitely out here making a difference, more than just singing and dancing,’ singer says of Japan shows. By Alvin Blanco Ne-Yo Photo: Annette Brown/ Getty Images R&B singer Ne-Yo is doing his part to help victims of the earthquake and tsunami that hit northern Japan on March 11. Despite other artists like Ke$ha postponing their dates in the country, the singer/songwriter — minus some backup dancers — decided to continue his performances and provided charitable aid in the process.

Lady Gaga Releases Country Version Of ‘Born This Way’

New take on hit song, dubbed ‘The Country Road Version,’ features slide guitar, mandolin and harmonica. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images You can take all those Madonna comparisons and throw them out the window of your Ford F-150 truck, because on Thursday night Lady Gaga released a whole new version of her global smash “Born This Way” that featured a totally unexpected spin. After tweeting to her Little Monsters that she was preparing to release “Born This Way (The Country Road Version),” Mother Monster dropped the tune at midnight PT on Friday (March 25) via her Twitter account … and it did not disappoint. The new rendition of the hit opens with ominous, swirling guitars and then introduces a fuzzed-out slide guitar and harmonica wheeze, with all of the thumping disco beats replaced by restrained brush drumming and a more laid-back vibe. Once it kicks into the first chorus, the song continues to take its time, choogling along on live-sounding, laconic drumming and lots of soulful harmonica. Just before the three-minute mark, Gaga mixes in some new lyrics, drawling, “If I wanna make it country, baby, then it’s OK, cuz I was born, I was born, I was born this way,” over picked mandolin. “From London, Paris, Japan back to USA/ I was born on the road, I was born to be brave,” she adds, as the song breaks into full-on country-rock mode reminiscent of late-period Bon Jovi in the final minute. Meanwhile, the original, non-boot-scooting version of “BTW” notched its sixth week in a row at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts this week, which is what Gaga said prompted her to drop the surprise remake on her fans. Earlier this week, Gaga revealed that she’s almost done recording her Born This Way album , telling fans via Twitter, “In Nebraska, finishing up record today … I’m so proud of the album: I keep dancing+drinking: metal/techno rock journey of a woman on the run.” Plans are now being worked up for the tour in support of Born This Way (due out May 23) and Gaga’s first swing at directing, a collaboration with her creative director, Laurieann Gibson, on the video for the album’s upcoming second single, “Judas.” What do you think of Gaga’s twanged-up version of “Born This Way”? Canadian Justin Bieber makes amends for calling Americans ‘evil’ in his stars and stripes Onesie

He insulted many Americans by labelling them ‘evil’ for not having a free healthcare system in a controversial magazine interview last month. So it looked like Canadian pop star Justin Bieber may have been attempting to make amends with his flamboyant choice of clothing in Nottingham today. Instead of the red and white maple leaf pattern of his native Canadian flag, the 17-year-old opted for a Stars and Stripes Onesie.  I pledge allegiance to the flag… Justin Bieber flies the flag for his U.S. neighbours in a stars and stripes Onesie in Nottingham Spotted arriving at Nottingham on his tour bus ahead of his gig at the Trent FM Arena tonight, Bieber was wearing a £125 adult babygro from Norweigan firm OnePiece . OnePiece don’t make Canadian flag Onesies just yet, so perhaps Bieber was dropping a subtle hint by wearing the U.S. design. Last month, Bieber hit out the American healthcare system during an interview with Rolling Stone magazine. ‘My bodyguard’s baby was premature, and now he has to pay for it. In Canada, if your baby’s premature, he stays in the hospital as long as he needs to, and then you go home.’  Time to grow up? Onesies are modelled on the all-in-ones worn by infants Other celebrities seen wearing the Onesies and OnePieces include Rihanna, The Saturdays’ Una Healy and X Factor third placers One Direction. Bajan singer Rihanna was one of the first stars to go public in the not-so-trendy ensemble, at a recording studio in Los Angeles in April. One Directions members Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Niall Horan were spotted wearing them to rehearsals in November, while Healy posted a photo of her wearing one at Christmas. Bieber’s My World tour originally started in the U.S. last June. He is scheduled to perform 11 more dates in the UK, before travelling to the rest of Europe, then Asia, Australasia and the Caribbean. Ke$ha Postpones Japan Tour Dates

Ne-Yo, Cyndi Lauper continue to perform in the country following earthquake. By Gil Kaufman Ke$ha Photo: Noel Vasquez/ Getty Images As the people of Japan continue to struggle with the recovery from the nation’s devastating earthquake and tsunami, some artists are being forced to cancel their tour dates in the nation. Ke$ha released a statement on Monday announcing that she would have to postpone her upcoming dates in the nation. “My heart is with Japan right now through this disaster and these hardships,” the singer wrote on her website . “I genuinely don’t think right now would be appropriate timing for me to perform in Japan given the content and the spirit of my show, which is all about feeling exuberant, rowdy, and wild. … I plan to bring my party there and to that part of the world when we are all ready to dance and Get $leazy together again. In the meantime I am going to do everything I can to help relief efforts and I encourage everyone in the world to do the same.” In the meantime, Ke$ha has a string of North American dates kicking off on April 1 with a show in Clarion, Pennsylvania, and running through early May. According to Billboard the promoter of scotched Japanese tour, Creativeman Productions, also announced that it would be canceling a pair of its annual spring festivals. The Springgroove an R&B, soul and hip-hop festival scheduled for April 2 near Tokyo and April 3 in Osaka, would have featured Nelly and Flo Rida, among others. Also called off was then annual hardcore Punkspring festival on April 1 and 2 in Osaka and Nagoya with headliners Good Charlotte and Hoobastank. Ne-Yo continued with his planned dates in Japan over the weekend, performing a show in Nagoya on Friday and launching a charity initiative to help the people of the country. Called “Spread Love Through Music,” the show included donation boxes at the concert to help those in need and the sale of a special wristband with proceeds going to earthquake relief. He plans to do the same during his shows on Tuesday (March 22) in Yokohama and Thursday in Tokyo. “You can absolutely spread love through music, and I think that’s what’s absolutely called for in this time of crisis,” he said in a video on his website. Also currently touring Japan is Cyndi Lauper, who is slated to play a show in Osaka on Tuesday and was in the country promoting her Memphis Blues album when the quake hit on March 11. She’s been tweeting about her experience all along, and on Monday, she wrote about the healing power of music in the shattered country. “Miss my family but have my music family and the warmth of the peeps I sing to. Tonight I will loose myself in the music and the rhythm,” she wrote. Like Ne-Yo, she is asking fans to donate cash at the shows to earthquake relief and is donating all royalties from sales of her Blues album in Japan to the Japanese Red Cross.
