30 Seconds To Mars Call Into The Wild Tour ‘A New Beginning’

‘It’s a massive celebration for us and our fans,’ Jared Leto says. By James Montgomery 30 Seconds to Mars Photo: EMI Music They just wrapped their first-ever run of arena shows in Europe, shot a combat-themed music video for “This Is War” and kicked off the U.S. leg of their Into the Wild tour . So why, with so much forward momentum, does Jared Leto consider everything 30 Seconds to Mars are doing to be a gigantic step back to square one? “I’ve said this before, but the most exciting thing about being in this band right now, is that it feels like the beginning again. Making this album, we rediscovered ourselves, and we emerged as something different,” Leto told MTV News. “We did the tour of Europe, which was a new beginning for us, and now, we’re touring America. And to have not toured here in three years, it’s a massive celebration for us and our fans. We feel like we’re beginning the journey again, here in this country.” The journey actually began on Friday in Las Vegas, when 30STM launched their Into the Wild trek at the Palms Casino Resort’s Pearl Theater. The tour will crisscross the country until mid-May, at which point the band will actually take about a month of before heading back to Europe for the summer fest circuit) — though, as Leto points out, they’re not taking a break willingly. “We’re just really excited, and we don’t want to stop,” he laughed. “This band is never exhausted. We’ve been able to play the songs on [ This Is War ] for audiences in Europe, and now we’re getting to play them for fans here. And right now, that’s what’s most exciting … to have people hear it and experience it.” And just what can fans expect on the U.S. leg of Into the Wild? Leto’s not saying. You’ve got to come out and see the show for yourself. “Like I said, it’s a celebration, it’s emotional, it’s a big, loud show,” he explained. “But, really, you’ve got to come out and see it. That’s the best way to put it.” Are you going to see 30 Seconds to Mars on tour this spring? What song are you looking forward to hearing live? Share your excitement below! Richard Dawkins Plotting Pope Arrest

Richard Dawkins, the atheist campaigner, is planning a legal ambush to have the Pope arrested during his state visit to Britain “for crimes against humanity”. Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, the atheist author, have asked human rights lawyers to produce a case for charging Pope Benedict XVI over his alleged cover-up of sexual abuse in the Catholic church. The pair believe they can exploit the same legal principle used to arrest Augusto Pinochet, the late Chilean dictator, when he visited Britain in 1998. The Pope was embroiled in new controversy this weekend over a letter he signed arguing that the “good of the universal church” should be considered against the defrocking of an American priest who committed sex offences against two boys. It was dated 1985, when he was in charge of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which deals with sex abuse cases. Benedict will be in Britain between September 16 and 19, visiting London, Glasgow and Coventry, where he will beatify Cardinal John Henry Newman, the 19th-century theologian. Dawkins and Hitchens believe the Pope would be unable to claim diplomatic immunity from arrest because, although his tour is categorised as a state visit, he is not the head of a state recognised by the United Nations. They have commissioned the barrister Geoffrey Robertson and Mark Stephens, a solicitor, to present a justification for legal action. The lawyers believe they can ask the Crown Prosecution Service to initiate criminal proceedings against the Pope, launch their own civil action against him or refer his case to the International Criminal Court. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/faith/article7094310.ece?TheGodDelusion added by: TravG73

Drake’s Music ‘Doesn’t Really Call For’ Lil Wayne-Type Energy

‘It’s more about me connecting with the audience,’ MC says about being more laid-back onstage. By Shaheem Reid Drake Photo: Sam Hendrick/ MTV News Drake has thankfully recovered from last year’s knee injury — the 23-year-old Toronto native has been onstage all this week performing as part of his Away From Home Tour . “I had an assessment a week ago,” Drake told MTV News last week. “They told me that I’m definitely able to get out there and perform to the fullest. I’m still not going to be able to play basketball. I’m gonna stay far away from that, actually. But I’m ready to come back. I think I’m coming back with more maturity as far as connecting with the audience and less about running around. A lot of my performance energy before came from watching Lil Wayne. I always felt I needed to be just as energetic, running back and forth on the stage. In preparing for this tour, I realized my brand of music doesn’t really call for that. It’s more about me connecting with the audience and them enjoying the way we flip these songs around. I want them to walk away and be like, ‘That was a great night.’ ” Drizzy has openers Francis and the Lights and K-OS on the road with him. “I chose these acts with Oliver who works with me,” he explained. “They’re on the tour because they’re who I’m a fan of. I know I could have brought out other younger artists or rappers, but I want this to be an experience. I want them to be refreshed about music. Not like, ‘Oh, I went to another rap show.’ ” What do you think of Drake’s live show? Let us know in the comments below! Rihanna Calls ‘American Idol’ Performance ‘Nerve-Racking’

She also opens up about ‘time-demanding’ Last Girl on Earth Tour and the success of ‘Rude Boy.’ By James Dinh Rihanna Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Wednesday night might have marked Rihanna’s “American Idol” debut , but the superstar delivered a fearless performance of her new single, “Rockstar 101.” “It’s my first time performing on ‘Idol,’ and it’s a little nerve-racking, because we’re in the middle of our tour rehearsals and it’s a really time-demanding experience, and we just had to fit this in there.” she said in an interview with “Entertainment Tonight.” The songstress, who just announced her Last Girl on Earth Tour with Ke$ha this week, confessed that her performance was completely spontaneous, revealing that she and her band “came up with what we were going to do right here, right now.” Rihanna also explained the meaning behind the title of her Last Girl on Earth Tour. “I like to think about myself as the last girl on Earth, because sometimes people make decisions based on the outlook of others and, you know, to me, my life is my life,” she said. “It’s my world, and I’m going to live it the way I want to. That’s how I think about everything. That way I’m focused on me and my work. It’s a really narrow space, a focus.” Rihanna’s third Rated R single, “Rude Boy,” is holding strong atop the Billboard Hot 100 for the fourth consecutive week. “It’s so exciting. I can’t believe ‘Rude Boy,’ of all songs, was the biggest song on this album, and that’s the one that I really wrote the most on.” she said of the song’s success. Whitney Houston Denies Drug Rumors After Postponing Tour Dates

Singer said she was hospitalized in Paris this week for allergies. By Gil Kaufman Whitney Houston Photo: MTV News Just a day after postponing a number of dates on her European tour, Whitney Houston denied rumors that the shows were called off because of possible drug relapse. “I’m feeling great … I’m read to move on and continue my world tour,” the 46-year-old singer, who has acknowledged a struggle with drug addiction in the past, told People magazine. On Wednesday, Houston postponed a handful of dates because she was reportedly suffering from an upper respiratory infection and had been advised by her doctors not to perform. She was scheduled to perform on Thursday and Friday in Manchester, England, at the Manchester Evening News Arena, but has pushed back those shows until June 16 and 17. She rescheduled this Sunday’s concert in Glasgow, Scotland, for May 1, and had previously called off Tuesday’s show in Paris. The singer was hospitalized for what was described as an upper respiratory infection earlier this week, which led to the scotching of the first four shows on her European tour and tabloid speculation that she had slipped back into drug-taking. She called such reports “ridiculous,” adding, “at this point, I just don’t respond. I don’t even read it.” She explained that she checked into a hospital in Paris on doctor’s orders, blaming the illness on her seasonal allergies. “My health is terrific,” she said. “But this is a time when I get a lot of allergies.” The tour is now slated to pick up again on Tuesday, April 13, in Birmingham, England, and go through June. “I’m doing what I love to do, which is singing,” Houston said. “The best part is seeing all of my fans around the world.” In February, after some fans and critics said Houston was out of breath and had trouble hitting notes during her concerts in Australia, her rep denied that she was having health trouble. “Whitney is in great health and having a terrific time on her tour and with her fans,” the publicist told E! Online . Houston staged a comeback late last summer and released her first album of new material in seven years, I Look to You. Related Artists Whitney Houston

Nicki Minaj Pulls Out Of Rihanna/ Ke$ha Tour

‘I’ve decided 2 use that time 4 the completion of my album,’ Minaj tweets. By James Dinh Nicki Minaj Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images Just days after it was announced that Nicki Minaj would be joining Ke$ha as an opening act for Rihanna ‘s Last Girl on Earth Tour this summer, the Young Money rapper has decided to not participate, according to a tweet she posted on Wednesday (April 7). Late Tuesday, Minaj took to Twitter to hint at the news. “*sighs* how … how do i say this … hope the barbz [her fans] will understand … hate letting them down. *sighs again while in deep thought*,” she wrote. And on Wednesday afternoon, the rapper dropped the news . “Barbz I’m sorry 2 say I will not be going out on RiRi’s tour. I’ve decided 2 use that time 4 the completion of my album. Hope u understand,” she tweeted. At press time, reps for Minaj and Rihanna had not responded to MTV News’ requests for comment. Minaj’s decision to focus on her debut album comes at a bit of a surprise, since she told MTV News in February that she wasn’t in a rush to release the album because she felt people need to get used to seeing a female rapper again. “With the album, just like with my mixtape, I never like to rush it,” she said. “With the album, I think it’s more important that people get accustomed to seeing a female rapper again. Before I drop an album, people need to come out and see. People don’t even know what a female rapper does.” However, fans can certainly see Minaj in the video for her single “Massive Attack.” A clip for the video, which features Amber Rose and producer Sean Garrett was released last week. While Minaj’s name is still on the tour announcement on Rihanna’s official site , it appears likely that the tour will proceed with a new opening act. Related Artists Nicki Minaj Rihanna Ke$ha
