‘She took it up a notch in a way that we couldn’t have imagined,’ lead singer Ryan Keith Follese says of Whatever duet. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Demi Lovato Photo: MLB/Getty Riding high off the success of their track “Tonight Tonight,” Nashville’s Hot Chelle Rae are prepping the release of their album Whatever, due out November 29. In addition to the top 40 hit, HCR also show off their skills on 10 tracks, and they invited some pals to the party. Among those friends is Demi Lovato, who appears on “Why Don’t You Love Me.” The group’s lead singer, Ryan Keith Follese, dished about the Unbroken singer to MTV News when we caught up with them at Sunday’s American Music Awards (the group took home the prize for New Artist of the Year). “Honestly, I’m really, really proud of the song we did with Demi,” Follese said. “We did a song called ‘Why Don’t You Love Me’ … and we’re such a huge fan of hers.” Lovato’s big voice made her the perfect choice for the track. “She’s such a powerhouse female vocalist for our generation and the one below us,” he gushed, “And I just can’t wait for the world to hear that song. She took it up a notch in a way that we couldn’t have imagined.” So what should fans expect from the track? “It is such a ballad, such a duet. If you can imagine a classic love song, that’s what it is,” he teased. Whatever features Lovato, but also appearances from the New Boyz on “I Like It Like That.” Bei Maejor, who dropped the track “Trouble” with J. Cole earlier this year, appears on the song “Radio.” Are you looking forward to Hot Chelle Rae’s duet with Demi? Tell us in the comments! ‘It’s very exciting,’ working with MC, Guetta tells MTV News on American Music Awards red carpet. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Nicki Minaj performs at the AMAs on Sunday Photo: Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images On Sunday night, Nicki Minaj joined forces with David Guetta for a sexy, amped up performance of their track “Turn Me On” at the American Music Awards . The two kicked off a night that would lead to two wins for the fierce MC, who nabbed trophies for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album for Pink Friday. Before Guetta hit the stage, he spoke to MTV News on the red carpet, revealing that his collabo with Minaj would have fans seeing a whole new side of the MC. “To tell you the truth, the fact that I’m performing this record for the first time … I want to see the reaction that people are gonna have because they are going to hear Nicki like they’ve never heard her before,” he explained of working with Minaj, who also appears on his song “Where Them Girls At.” “I’m really happy today because I’m having a #1 record with Usher [for] ‘Without You,’ which is amazing [and] my first #1 as an artist in the U.S. And presenting this also, I really can’t wait to get the reaction from the American audience when they’re gonna see her sing like this because she is killing it.” In the lead-up to the performance, Guetta said that Minaj was already bringing fire to the table. “She always comes with the crazy ideas,” he said. “So it’s very exciting.” With the performance under their belts, the two now have plans to shoot a video for the track, which appears on Guetta’s album Nothing but the Beat. Guetta and Minaj teased the video plans on Twitter, hours after the AMAs wrapped up. “We are shooting our video with @NICKIMINAJ tmw. It’s gonna be sick! #nbtb #TurnMeOn,” Guetta wrote. “Can’t wait David! Love u!!!” she tweeted in response. ‘We Found Love,’ ‘Watch n’ Learn’ define singer’s sixth album. By Jocelyn Vena Rihanna Photo: Ian Gavan/ Getty Images Rihanna ‘s Talk That Talk might be the defining party album of 2011. Released Monday (November 21), the singer’s sixth studio album in nearly as many years is the kind of record a DJ can play straight through at a club, filled with pulsing bangers about all things sexy. To say the least, it’s not an album for those who easily blush. It’s hard, grinding and aggressive. Rihanna uses the type of saucy language not often heard on mainstream pop records. Rounding up a slew of A-listers including Calvin Harris, Dr. Luke, Stargate, The-Dream, Ester Dean and No I.D., Rihanna put together a cohesive record about how hot love can get between the sheets. MTV News’ picks for Talk That Talk ‘s five key tracks: “We Found Love” One of two Calvin Harris collaborations (the other is the equally club-stomping “Where Have You Been”), “We Found Love” defines this era for the singer, whose album is heavily influenced by dance music and club culture. “WFL” is so big and infectious that it’s hard to ignore the strength of this track. “Cockiness” Perhaps the most swagged-out track on all of TTT, “Cockiness” is a no-holds-barred, full-throttle song. Produced by Bangladesh, Rihanna relays absolutely everything she wants her man to do once they manage to sneak away and get it on. Full of sirens, thumping beats, tempo changes and sampled noises, “Cockiness” is raunchy — the kind of raunchy you want to dance the night away to. “Talk That Talk” Joined by her mentor Jay-Z (who lyrically struts over this track like it’s still the “Umbrella” days), this Stargate-produced track is classic Rihanna. Big and hard with just enough brightness, it’s the type of song that can get played on both Urban and Top 40 stations. Where “Cockiness” was brazen, “Talk That Talk” allows the sex to live in a place that feels less NSFW. “Roc Me Out” Rarely is Rihanna vulnerable on this album, and rarely would that happen on an uptempo jam. On this Stargate track (the third of three), Rihanna displays her signature bravado, but hidden in there is one deep insight into who Ri is on the inside when she confesses, “Take a peek at the girl I hide/ I’ll let you in on a dirty secret/ I just wanna be loved.” “Watch n’ Learn” A sort of how-to guide, the playful Hit-Boy track “Watch n’ Learn” is all about Ri teaching her man how to love her just the right way. The lyrics are quite sassy, but the melody is just soft enough to make you forget that the track is actually kind of dirty. What’s your favorite Talk That Talk track? Tell us in the comments!

Producer Hit-Boy is especially excited about the Throne performing the single multiple times during shows. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Matt Elias Jay-Z and Kanye West Photo: Getty Images Jay-Z and Kanye West might give it up for Paris on their Watch the Throne single, but the international party anthem is now #1 in the U.S. Last week, “N—as in Paris” snagged the top spot on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart. Producer Hit-Boy couldn’t be more ecstatic, especially considering that he initially submitted Jay and ‘Ye other records that at the time seemed to be bigger than “Paris.” “The crazy thing about the ‘Paris’ record is that record just came out of nowhere, pretty much,” Hit-Boy told MTV News last week. “I did other records that were talked about being singles and all types of stuff, so I was hyped over those records.” Instead, the superstar duo chose to run with “N—as in Paris,” a brash celebration of success over a bouncy beat, mashed up with Will Ferrell sound bites . Though it was Hit-Boy who came up with the initial version of the track, he credits ‘Ye with the addition of the former “SNL” funnyman. “Genius. That’s just the genius that ‘Ye is. He always comes up with these ideas that just takes music to a whole ‘nother level,” Hit-Boy gushed. “Just something that’s never been done before.” Ferrell was also pretty excited about being included on the song. “I was completely flattered when they asked if they could sample me into the song,” Ferrell told MTV News about the track’s “Blades of Glory” quotes. “And when I heard it for the first time, I just started to laugh because it felt so surreal. But I really did like the song.” Not only is “Paris” killing the radio, but while on tour, Hov and Yeezy perform the fan favorite multiple times in a single night. During the tour’s opening night on October 28 in Atlanta, the duo rocked the single twice; the next night they performed it three times. When Hit-Boy caught one of the two Madison Square Garden shows in New York at the beginning of November, he was blown away hearing his track repeatedly.”It was amazing,” he said. “I’ve never heard of that being done before, like a song being performed multiple times. That made me feel super special.” What do you think of “Paris”? Let us know in the comments! You didn’t think Hank Williams Jr. was gonna go quietly, did you? Calling out Fox News and ESPN after an interview with the former led to his firing by the latter last week, the crooner has cut a new song, “Keep the Change.” In the song, Williams sings “So Fox n’ Friends wanna put me down … Ask for my opinion … Twist it all around … Two can play that gotcha game you’ll see.” Yes. That’s what it was. Pure spin. Listen to the track here: Hank Williams, Jr. – Keep The Change Hank also sings that the U.S. is “going down the drain” and says it’s becoming “The United Socialist States of America.” We’re guessing he’s not a Democrat. After Hank ripped President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner golfing, likening it to Hitler and Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu playing a round, ESPN yanked his Monday Night Football theme, then fired Williams a few days later. The singer defiantly bashed ESPN, then recorded his “revenge” song. Written and recorded in less than a day, the track was posted on his website Monday, along with “Hank Jr. for President” T-shirts … an absolute MUST HAVE. Your side :
Young Money honcho injects some swagger into Jonas’ second Fast Life single. By Jocelyn Vena Joe Jonas Photo: Imeh Akpanudosen/ Getty Images After dropping his second solo single, “Just in Love,” last month, Joe Jonas decided to hop back on the Fast Life track, but this time with some love from Lil Wayne . A Weezy-approved remix was released on Monday morning (October 3). “I’m just in love with you baby,” Wayne shouts at the top of the track, which for the most part stays the same, except for a few shout-outs from Weezy. Soon after Joe’s single came out in September, the Jonas Brother followed up the dance track with a sexy video. The “Just in Love” clip features the singer frolicking around Paris with a beautiful French model. Weezy returns halfway through the track to throw down a verse with his signature swagger. “Hey Joe, I got you/ Ain’t no love like the one I got/ I’m a prisoner of love/ Got my heart on lock,” he raps. “It’s like a star from the sky fell from by side/ And she tell me that it’s mine/ And I say that’s fine/ She look like a butterfly/ Smell like a flower/ I don’t need nothing/ Nothing but her/ And the smile on her face.” As the track closes out, Wayne has this final message for the lady he loves: “I’m just in love with you/ Ever since you came into my life/ My life has changed for the better.” When Joe spoke to Ryan Seacrest on Monday, he told the KIIS-FM host how he felt about the superstar rapper. “Lil Wayne, I’ve always been a huge fan. He’s always been one of those artists who’s been killing it for the longest time,” Jonas said. “Like many artists, I wanted to work with him somehow. I met him three years ago when Russell Brand hosted the VMAs.” Joe recalled meeting Wayne back then. “I remember walking up to him [and introducing myself] … and he just goes, he’s like ‘JOOONAS! What you doing man?’ and he gave me the biggest bro hug. This project came along. He wanted to be a part of it and he made this remix and he killed it.” Fast Life, Joe’s first-ever solo album, hits the streets on October 11.
