Biggie To Bon Jovi: Killa Kyleon’s Many Inspirations

Candy Paint N Texas Plates 2 has a wide range of samples, in Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman, with reporting from James Smith Killa Kyleon Photo: Ray Tamarra/ Getty Images Main Pick Artist : Killa Kyleon and Rapid Ric Representing : Houston Mixtape : Candy Paint & Texas Plates 2 Real Spit : Killa Kyleon may still be making a name from himself in rap, but the Houston MC is no rookie. The seasoned Southern spitter got his start running alongside Big Pokey, Chris Ward and DJ Screw’s Screwed Up Click, before really making an impact with Slim Thug’s group Boss Hogg Outlawz. It’s his gruff vocal tone, butter flow and hard-nosed lyrics that make Killa Kyleon a fan favorite. On his latest mixtape, Candy Paint N Texas Plates 2, Killa puts it all on display. With the tape’s 21 soul-drenched tracks, Killa Ky hooks up notable producers like Lex Luger, Cookin’ Soul and Cy Frye to lay his sound bed. On “Top Down,” Killa spits over a dreamy loop that incorporates a small sample from the Notorious B.I.G.’s 1995 song “Who Shot Ya,” so it’s only right that Kyleon tries his hand over the classic Biggie beat on the next track. His inspiration isn’t all rap. On “Bodies Hit the Floor,” Killa recruits Bun B and producer Lex Luger to add a hip-hop twist to Drowning Pool’s 2001 metal track “Bodies.” It doesn’t stop there: On “Hustler’s Prayer,” Big K.R.I.T. samples Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead or Alive” as Ky goes in lyrically against his rap competitors. (“Lyin’ about they real on these records in front of cameramen/ Run a background check, them n—as fake as mannequins.” Mac Miller joins in on “Come on Baby,” and “Letter to Pimp C” is a heartfelt dedication track to the fallen UGK pioneer. Whether from the Deep South, Northeast or West Coast, Killa Kyleon’s Candy Paints & Texas Plates 2 has something for every hip-hop fan. Joints to Check For

20 Signs Your Booty Call Is Turning Into An Actual Relationship

See the original post here:

Is your casual booty call starting to feel like the beginning stages of an actual relationship?  Here are 20 signs to look out for: 1. They text you before 8 p.m. 2. They ask how your presentation/test/interview/trial went. 3. They call you. On the phone. 4. You allow yourself to be photographed with them. 5. They spend the night, you both sleep in and then get brunch the next day. 6. The two of you are hanging out. Sober. Not hungover. 7. You kiss as a greeting (not just as a pathway to sex or out of obligation in the morning). 8. They invite you out to the bar with their friends before they’re ready to leave. 9. They loaned you a book. (You don’t loan a booty call a book.) 10. They accidentally call you “baby” (not in bed). GET THE REST HERE! Katy Perry Picks ‘The One That Got Away’ As Next Single

Song will be the sixth single from 2010’s Teenage Dream. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/ Getty Images Katy Perry isn’t ready to let the Teenage Dream era go. She’s readying her sixth single from the album, the sentimental midtempo track “The One That Got Away.” Billboard reports that the singer’s label has confirmed the track’s release. Of the decision to release another song from the album, Greg Thompson, an EMI Music/Capitol Records EVP/marketing and promotion rep, told the mag, “Nothing ventured, nothing gained.” Boasting production and writing credits from Dr. Luke and Max Martin (with a co-writing assist from Perry herself), the track is all about her first love. On the track’s chorus, she pines, “In another life, I would be your girl/ We keep all our promises, be us against the world/ And in another life, I would make you stay/ So I don’t have to say you were the one that got away.” While she’s a pop princess, Perry also calls out her love for artists like Radiohead and Johnny Cash on the song, which appears to be about another musician. “Someone said you had your tattoo removed,” she sings. “Saw you downtown singing the blues/ It’s time to face the music/ I’m no longer your muse.” The track will hit radio next month. So far, Perry’s already found plenty of success with her previous five Teenage Dream singles, with every one topping the chart. The California Gurl matched Michael Jackson’s record with the feat, and if this track should also go to #1, she would best the King of Pop. The label added that Luke may “touch up” the track for the radio and that Perry is “reading treatments” for a video. “If it goes to #1, that would be great,” Thompson told Billboard. “If not, we still have a Katy song on the radio in fourth quarter.” What is your favorite Teenage Dream single? LMFAO Envisioned ‘Party Rock Anthem’ As Song Of The Summer

‘It was a vision, a dream carried out,’ RedFoo says of song’s popularity. By Jocelyn Vena LMFAO Photo: MTV News It’s been a good summer for party anthems thanks to jams from Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Pitbull , to name a few. But only LMFAO were committed enough to name their summer jam “Party Rock Anthem.” The funky track launched onto the scene back in January, but really didn’t pick up steam until the weather started to turn balmy, and now it’s basically everywhere. Written by LMFAO duo SkyBlu and RedFoo (along with Jamahl Listenbee, Peter Schroeder) and featuring production work from RedFoo and GoonRock (who is also on the track, along with British singer Lauren Bennett), the lead single off of Sorry For Party Rocking is a synthed-out ode to having a good time. Adding to its party credentials, the song samples Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love” and Eric Prydz’s “Call on Me.” As “Party Rock Anthem” faces off against the likes of “I Wanna Go” and “Edge of Glory” in our latest Song of the Summer poll , we wondered if LMFAO had any idea in the studio that the track would take off the way it has. “Yeah, it was in the coordinates, so to speak, if you’re gonna say ‘take off,’ ” RedFoo told MTV News. “We knew that there would possibly be some turbulence; we rose above it. We elevated above it and navigated to that position. … We had our sonar. It was a vision, a dream carried out.” Vote now in our Song of the Summer poll! SkyBlu quipped, “Houston, we didn’t have problem. We have success and nothing less than the best. Peace to the rest.” The VMA-nominated “Party Rock” video , which features some killer choreography and zombies, has also become a viral smash. SkyBlu guessed that “like 150 mil” had seen it. “No, it’s like 180 [million] or something crazy and I’m just guessing,” RedFoo said, and he was pretty close to the over 184 million streams it had as of press time. But the guys aren’t resting on their laurels. They recently appeared in the video for Lil Jon’s track “Drink,” off his album Party Animal , and they just shot the video for “Sexy and I Know It” in Los Angeles. Keep on shuffling, boys!
