First Dredd Trailer: RoboCop Meets The Raid?

“Somewhere in this block are two judges,” a crime lord declares over loudspeakers in a concrete, locked-down tenement. “I want them dead.” Is this the American remake of Gareth Evans ‘ fantastic silat action pic The Raid ? Nope. It’s the first trailer for Dredd ! As in, the second cinematic coming of Judge Dredd, the futuristic crime fighting officer made famous by Sylvester Stallone , here replaced by a serious-faced, robotic Karl Urban, whose lower jaw we’re going to be seeing a lot of in the September reboot. Pete Travis ( Vantage Point ) directs (after some editing room drama ) the slick-looking Dredd — shot in 3-D — which promises a dirty future ridden with crime, the population under the control of Lena Headey’s drug-pushing villainess. The fictional narcotic “Slo-mo” makes characters feel as if time is moving at a slow crawl, giving Travis the occasion to give things that gorgeous speed-manipulated floating feeling, which should help distract from the glaring familiarity of the film’s set-up. Which brings me to the aforementioned issue; if I hadn’t seen (and loved) The Raid , which exploited the basic premise of a few lone law officers fighting their way through a slum building to get to its big boss with great aplomb, the trailer’s plot reveal would feel a lot fresher. Now I’m just wondering if any of the fights will come close to matching the inventiveness of Evans’ bone-crunching Indonesian picture. And with Urban set to never take off that Dredd mask in the film — and delivering lines like “I’m the law” with no trace of Sly’s charisma — this feels like a precursor to the RoboCop reboot , only with less emotion. And then there’s the Dredd -ness of it all. Olivia Thirlby in that Dredd -ful hairdo will have to work hard to measure up to Diane Lane’s feisty sidekick in 1995’s Judge Dredd , silly as that movie was, even as this Dredd — based more on the comics than its predecessor — is clearly taking a more solemn approach. The most promising element here is Headey and her scarred-but-hot lady crime lord — now there’s something you don’t see often. Verdict: More of a curiosity than a must-see. Dredd hits theaters September 21. [via Machinima ]

‘Django Unchained’: Five Secrets From The Trailer

We’re just as obsessed with the sneak peek of Quentin Tarantino’s latest as you are. By Kevin P. Sullivan Jamie Foxx in “Django Unchained” Photo: Columbia Pictures The trailer for ” Django Unchained ” is finally here, and if you’re here, you’ve paused the trailer long enough to read this, so thank you. We here at MTV News are just as obsessed with the trailer for Quentin Tarantino ‘s long-awaited Southern, so we’ve put together the trailer commentary below, and if you’re looking for an even deeper dive, here are the five secrets of the “Django Unchained” trailer: What’s In A Name? Tarantino has always filled his movies with some subtle (and not so subtle) references to the movies he admires. The title character in “Django Unchained” owes his name to the rich legacy of other Djangos in film. The original Django appeared in an Italian-made Western from 1966 by director Sergio Corbucci. In the original “Django,” the character is a mysterious drifter who drags a coffin around with him wherever he goes. Naturally, the coffin contains a machine gun. Dozens of other films ripped off the film, trying to repeat the original by featuring a character with the same name, but Corbucci and star Franco Nero only made one other Django movie, a 1987 sequel called “Django 2: il grande ritorno.” The Hidden Gun This tricky little pistol shows up twice during the trailer, but expect to see a lot more of it in the actual film. A contraption used by Dr. King Schultz, the hidden gun retracts up into the wearer’s sleeve and pops out when needed for a surprising blast. The device shows up pretty regularly in Westerns, and it even makes an appearance in one of Tarantino’s favorite movies of all time, Martin Scorsese’s “Taxi Driver.” The Leo Zoom-In The first time we see Leonardo DiCaprio , Tarantino does a jarring zoom-in on his smug, smiling face. The move comes straight out of the spaghetti Westerns that the style of “Django Unchained” pulls inspiration from. The most notable director of the genre, Sergio Leone, directed four of its most famous films: “Fistful of Dollars,” “For a Few Dollars More,” “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly,” and “Once Upon a Time in the West.” Tarantino has borrowed from Leone and the spaghetti Western aesthetic on other occasions, including nods in “Kill Bill” and “Inglourious Basterds.” Don Johnson The lucky journalists at Cannes who got a sneak preview of “Django Unchained” left the theater raving about the performance of ’80s TV star Don Johnson. He actually appears in the trailer, right around the two-minute mark, as the Colonel Sanders-esque gentleman on a horse. Johnson has found himself in a series of intriguing roles in recent years, appearing in “Machete” and “Eastbound and Down.” It’s safe to say that “Django Unchained” will continue that trajectory. Franco Nero Right at the end of the trailer, Tarantino throws in one last Easter egg for hard-core film fans. That man next to Jamie Foxx when he speaks the “D is silent” line? That’s Franco Nero, the original Django. Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’: Counting Down To The Trailer

First official look at highly anticipated flick starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz will air tonight. By Kevin P. Sullivan Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio in “Django Unchained” Photo: The Weinstein Co. Quentin Tarantino ‘s next film, ” Django Unchained ,” has been considered one of the most anticipated films of the year since the director revealed the controversial log line. From the beginning, it sounded like quintessential Tarantino, and one star-studded round of casting later, it’s now a can’t-miss movie of 2012. The first trailer for “Django” is set to premiere at 7:30 p.m. ET tonight (June 6) on “Entertainment Tonight,” and if that doesn’t mean something to you, it really, really should. For those unfamiliar with the story, Django, played by Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx , is a newly freed slave who finds a mentor in German dentist/bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz ) and must save his still-enslaved wife from an evil plantation owner (soon-to-be Academy Award winner Leonardo DiCaprio ). Though he’s flirted with the genre’s conventions before, “Django Unchained” will be Tarantino’s first full-on Western — but, this being a Tarantino movie, there’s a twist: The story largely takes place in the pre-Civil War South, creating a new genre all together, what Tarantino calls a “Southern.” Much of the look of the film, like “Inglourious Basterds” before it, borrows from the Westerns coming out of Italy during the 1960s and 1970s, the so-called “spaghetti Westerns.” “Entertainment Tonight” aired a preview to the trailer Tuesday night, and the footage did not disappoint. The preview showed Foxx as Django as he’s being freed from slavery by Schultz and a scene from later in the film, while the pair collects their first bounty. The same scene played for journalists at last month’s Cannes Film Festival, and it contains a line sure to become one of the most remembered from the film, so keep an eye out. (Just remember: “The ‘D’ is silent.”) The shootouts in “Django” — and oh, will there be shootouts! — are sure to have a highly stylized look to them and will likely be a centerpiece of the trailer. Based on the preview and reactions from Cannes, DiCaprio will be the one to watch, and he is on display in the short clip. After being unable to star as Hans Landa in “Basterds,” DiCaprio fought for the role of the evil Calvin Candie. The role is probably the most villainous of DiCaprio’s career, and he seems to be enjoying it quite a bit. Candie is a loud character that will provide DiCaprio with a ton of great lines like “Gentlemen, you had my curiosity, but now you have my attention.” But make no mistake about it. Candie is a bad man, so this will definitely be a different side of DiCaprio. Expect lots of gunplay and even more DiCaprio in this first preview since these will be the centerpieces of what may be one of the more bizarre releases of the year, but knowing Tarantino, it will also be one of the most exciting. RICHARD PHILLIPS is some artist that got Lohan to pretend to be a surfer in some art project he did called First Point…and that she did cuz she’s got nothing else going on…… I guess in one of those things that makes us question what art really is….I mean not cuz Lohan brings up any real debates…but casting her in this and calling it art….makes me wonder how is gutter porn not considered art…but this Lohan in a vintage bikini is….if I was to get porn trash into vintage bikinis…would that be considered art…they whole concept of “art” annoys me…it is some bullshit pretentious intellectualizing nonsense… there is no original thought, just cuz you can paint doesn’t mean you’re a genius visionary, revolutionizing anything….fuck you…just make videos…stop the bullshiit you asshole…. You see, this is Lohan in a bikini…regardless of what con artist labels it….I label it perfection….when obviously it isn’t to anyone with taste or a fear of herpes…and that is what matters…art is in the eye of the beholder or some shit…. Django Unchained Trailer Arrives: Get Ready For A Very Tarantino Spaghetti Western Christmas

At long last — since Quentin Tarantino fans have been dying for a glimpse since the first peek at that hand-scrawled script suggested that yes, this was really happening — comes the first trailer for Django Unchained , Tarantino’s December 2012 spaghetti western about a freed slave (Jamie Foxx) shooting his way across the South. Because nothing says Christmas like slavery and vengeance! UPDATE: Sorry folks, the trailer is set to officially debut on Fandango later today. Check back for updated video… Foxx plays Django, a slave taken under the wing of a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz, looking delightful). Together they journey from plantation to plantation shooting bad guys on their way to rescuing Django’s wife (Kerry Washington) from the evil, oily Leonardo DiCaprio. Between the contained ferocity in Foxx’s eyes, the character actors that line the cast, Tarantino’s use of classic genre zooms and camera moves, that swaggering sense of humor, and the promise of seeing Django get the ultimate historical-revisionist retribution in his quest for “life, love, and the pursuit of vengeance,” the trailer packs quite a punch. And that’s even before Foxx’s Django sidles up to the OG Django , Franco Nero, and explains to him how his name is pronounced. Oh, references! Verdict: Might be a bit too genre for mainstream audiences, but my inner exploitation nerd can’t wait. Django Unchained hits theaters December 25.

Jamie Lynn Spears Shitty Twitter Bikini Pics of the Day

Remember original teen mom Jamie Lynn Spears….who got knocked up at 12 like the trailer trash her family is…proobably in a teenage rebellion that stemmed from always being in Britney’s Shadow…and not just cuz Britney is Fat….but cuz Britney is one of the biggest stars around….even after all her break downs…and I’m not just talking about her thighs…. Either way, like all teen moms, and the only real benefit of being a teen mom, if you can afford to be one….is that her body looks far less ravaged that it probably would be if she was 30….but in defense to my theory that pregnancy ruins all…I haven’t seen her pussy or inserted a finger to see if it bounced back… And reality is, bikini or not…she’s not all that hot….but I’ll post this shit anyway…
