Katy Perry’s ‘Part Of Me’ Trailer: Follow Your Dreams

Sneak peek of upcoming 3-D concert movie shows Katy’s ups and downs on the road to superstardom. By Kara Warner Katy Perry in the “Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D” trailer Photo: Paramount Katy Perry has proven to be an expert tease in offering up details about her highly anticipated big-screen debut in “Katy Perry: Part of Me.” But on Tuesday (April 3), we finally got a glimpse of what to expect via the first official trailer . The nearly two-minute teaser opens with a shot of Perry onstage, with her otherworldly “E.T.” playing in the background, followed by quick cuts to footage of her Candy Land-esque California Dreams Tour and a voice-over about her meteoric rise to fame. “Katy’s just an explosion. She just keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger,” a man says in one testimonial, which plays behind flashes of her impressive statistics — the “first female to have five #1 singles on one album” — interspersed with scenes from her music videos for “California Gurls,” “Waking Up in Vegas” and “Teenage Dream.” “It’s always about the challenge,” another man says, with behind-the-scenes footage of Perry rehearsing and getting fitted for costumes playing. “What are people saying she can’t do? That’s what she does next. Every song has something to do with her life.” “She outworks everyone,” another friend says. “I honestly don’t know how she does it.” As headlines of Perry’s divorce flash onscreen, “E.T.” fades away and we hear the opening notes of “Firework,” which provides the background music for scenes and interviews about Perry’s religious childhood, her struggles in being signed to different labels and not being successful and ultimately how she powered through and kept believing in herself to become the superstar she is today. The end of the trailer is a mash-up of behind-the-scenes images from her very colorful concert tour and countless interactions with happy fans. “If you have a dream, you’re going to go on a journey to fulfill that dream,” Perry says as the trailer fades to black. Perry recently told MTV News that the movie is a fitting end to her adventure in promoting and touring for her Teenage Dream album. “It’s closing the chapter on Teenage Dream, but it’s giving you such an inside perspective,” Perry said when asked what fans will get out of the movie-going experience this summer. “This film, you’re going to see it from my best friend/buddy perspective, you’re going to see exactly what I mean and feel and think about everything.” The recent Kids’ Choice Award winner promised that while there will be eye-catching 3-D sequences, they won’t be cheap tricks. “Listen, I’ve [worked on] most of this film for a very long time and the word ‘cheap’ was not in the vocabulary,” she said. “But, hello, it’s 3-D. You’re going to get hit with a lot of sh–.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Fiona Apple Reveals Idler Wheel Comeback Details

Singer’s first album in nearly seven years is due June 19. By James Montgomery Fiona Apple’s The Idler Wheel Photo: Epic Records Fiona Apple has already made her return to the stage — and what a return it was — and now, she’s moving one step closer to completing her comeback, revealing details of her much-anticipated fourth album. Much like her (excellent) 1999 album, When the Pawn … (you know the rest), Apple’s new disc comes with an unwieldy title : The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do, though, chances are, you already knew that. But in a Facebook post Monday, Apple unveiled the full track list and artwork for the album and the official release date too: June 19. Several outlets reported The Idler Wheel … is due June 26, but a spokesperson for Apple’s label, Epic, confirmed to MTV News that the 19th is actually the correct date. Apple’s new album — her first since 2005’s Extraordinary Machine — features 10 songs, some of which (“Anything We Want,” “Valentine” and “Every Single Night”) she’s previewed during her recent run of club shows. And the album’s swirling, vaguely psychedelic cover art resembles the hand-drawn T-shirts she’s been selling at those shows too. Despite the brand-new information, there’s still plenty we don’t know about Idler. It’s not clear who produced the disc (early reports had drummer Charley Drayton listed as co-producer, along with Apple) or which track will be selected to serve as the first single. Apple just completed her run of intimate gigs leading up to the album, though at the moment, there are no tour dates lined up around its release; her only confirmed show is June 24 at the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York. But all in due time. For long-suffering Fiona fans, any bit of news is good news. The track list for The Idler Wheel … , according to Fiona Apple’s Facebook:

Len Wiseman walks MTV News through the first look at his remake. By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Kara Warner Colin Farrell in “Total Recall” Photo: Sony Pictures Earlier this week, we saw Colin Farrell realize he may not be the man he thought he was, in the first trailer for “Total Recall.” The first look at the sci-fi remake had a ton of futuristic visuals, badass women and a bleach-blond John Cho, but we wanted a deeper take on what the movie has in store. So MTV News turned to director Len Wiseman for the answers. Wiseman went into the details of the trailer and how it will reflect the finished film, scene-by-scene, and even shared some secrets from the set. The first images from the trailer surprisingly give no sign of the remake’s futuristic setting. Colin Farrell, as Doug Quaid, wakes up next to his wife (Kate Beckinsale) and slowly looks out onto his world. “We actually open up very intimately with Quaid, and then we step out and realize what world he lives in,” Wiseman said. “I wanted to set the stage first for just his relationship and then get a sense of the world and what sort of environment he is in and oppressed by.” Once the plot begins to move forward, Quaid seeks meaning from Rekall, a company than can implant memories. Here, Wiseman saw an opportunity to pay homage to the original film. “Rekall, I wanted to set up some elements that were familiar — a bit of the chair, a bit of what I was excited about when I was a teenager, things that I had kept from that experience,” he said. At the same time, Wiseman wanted to add edgier elements to the familiar setting. “[We] set it up in a much more opium-den, slightly more sketchy version of this whole process,” he said. “I wanted to have a little bit more danger. At its core, it’s screwing with your brain chemistry. That cannot be a widely accepted thing.” The flashiest scene of the trailer comes after the police storm Rekall and attempt to arrest Quaid. In a brutally kinetic single shot, the camera literally flies around the room as Quaid dismantles the police force. Wiseman said he had always wanted to do a scene like that but only just found the opportunity with “Total Recall.” “I needed to have the audience feel what Quaid was feeling. I wanted to set up a moment where you aren’t given a chance to take a breath until it’s over, just like he would.” The setup to capture that shot involved computer-operated cameras moving quickly around the set as Farrell repeatedly performed the fight choreography. “It was a very complicated shoot where Colin had to do the fight 22 times, actually, to get the thing right with all of the cameras,” Wiseman said. “The cameras would move at 35 miles an hour that were on computer systems. It took two days. It was immensely fun, but it is 100 percent practical.” Though the trailer only shows a brief look at it, the fight scene between Beckinsale and Jessica Biel is one Wiseman felt was important to include. “I wanted to give a sense of how strong these female characters are,” he said. “I want it to be the actual payoff of Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale going at it; you’re not watching two stunt players that are carrying that name. It’s actually Jessica and Kate just kicking either other’s ass.” The trailer closes with a mind-bending shot of Quaid quickly shuffling through a series of faces in place of his own. Wiseman said he included the scene as a way of communicating the central idea of the movie. “I’ve always been attracted and intrigued by anything that brings into question, ‘Who am I’? It’s such an enticing story to me,” he said. “That line right there is the basis of the movie. That line right there is the core of the movie.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Total Recall.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘Katy Perry: Part Of Me’ 3-D Trailer: Five Things We Want To See

We’re hoping for a peek at Perry’s backstage antics and her geeky alter ego, Kathy Beth Terry, when the concert clip drops on Tuesday. By Fallon Prinzivalli Katy Perry Photo: Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images With the announcement that Katy Perry ‘s 3-D concert movie is set to hit theaters this summer, fans are already eagerly awaiting the trailer. Well, KatyCats don’t have long to wait since Paramount Pictures is premiering the trailer for “Katy Perry: Part of Me” on Tuesday! Perry never disappoints when it comes to her live shows — from costumes to sets to colorful hair, she always leaves fans screaming for an encore — and we expect nothing less from the concert movie. But while we wait, here’s what we’re hoping for from the trailer debut. Off the Road Perry is known for her fun-loving, spontaneous persona. And while we’re looking forward to seeing the concert footage, we’re also hoping for some unexpected backstage antics. Whether she’s pulling pranks on her dancers, making funny faces into the camera or telling jokes at dinner, we’re excited to see a part of Katy normally reserved for when she’s off-camera. Costumes, Costumes, Costumes From a whipped-cream-shooting bra to a carousel dress to her sexy take on a toy soldier, Perry doesn’t hold back when it comes to her wardrobe. We have our fingers crossed for a sneak peek at the singer’s outfits! We can’t fathom what lies behind her dressing-room door, but whatever she wears, it’s sure to be sparkly and bright. Her Kids’ Choice Awards red-carpet look on Saturday proved this yet again. Meeting the KatyCats Perry is a huge fan of her fans, and she’s known to hold countless meet-and-greets on tour. A few fan-encounter clips are sure to please her devoted KatyCats. We can only imagine how it would feel to wind up in the trailer for your favorite pop singer’s movie. Perry’s Viewpoint We’re used to seeing pop stars perform live onstage, but it’s rare to get a sense of the show from the artist’s point of view. We’d love to see what Perry sees when she looks out into the audience. Are the fans screaming and crying or dancing and singing? What’s the first thing she notices when she steps onstage? Is it a fan-made poster or the bright lights? A quick glimpse at what Perry sees is sure to be unique and interesting. Kathy Beth Terry Perry introduced us to her 13-year-old, nerdy alter ego, Kathy Beth Terry, last summer in her video for “Last Friday Night (TGIF).” Kathy was an instant hit, collecting more than 800,000 likes on her Facebook page. Her thoughts on mega-crush Steve Johnson and getting through the 6th grade were hilarious, and we hope to see more of her commentary — plus the bright-pink turtleneck and denim jumper — in the trailer. What do you hope to see in the “Part of Me” 3-D movie trailer? Tell us in the comments! For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘Total Recall’ Trailer: Five Key Scenes

Len Wiseman remake, starring Colin Farrell, looks like a sleek, modern update of Arnold Schwarzenegger flick. By Kevin P. Sullivan Colin Farrell in “Total Recall” Photo: Sony If the trailer for Len Wiseman’s remake of “Total Recall” made one thing clear, it’s that this is not the “Total Recall” you know. Gone is the camp. Gone is the Martian setting. Gone is the Schwarzenegger. Instead, the new “Total Recall” is a sleek, visually impressive and modern sci-fi action thriller. Colin Farrell has stepped into the secret-secret-agent boots and the fit seems just right. Here are our five key scenes from the new “Total Recall” trailer. Total recall The trailer begins by giving a good sense of the setup of the story, and once Farrell’s character, Douglas Quaid, slips into the Rekal machine, that’s when all the trouble starts. Probably one of the strongest visual connections to the Paul Verhoeven-Arnold Schwarzenegger original, the Rekal machine should look vaguely familiar, albeit significantly updated. We do get the added benefit of a bleach-blond John Cho, but from the looks of the trailer, it doesn’t seem like he’ll be around for very long. “I know kung fu” After taking a seat in the Rekal machine, Quaid has his very own Jason Bourne moment. Once the police show up to arrest the very confused customer, his own secret-agent moves come back to him in a flash, and he’s able to dispatch all of the would-be arresting officers just as quickly. The camera jumps around with as much ferocity as Quaid, reminding us that Len “Underworld” Wiseman is definitely behind the lens. Kate Beckinsale: Villainess And if Len Wiseman is directing, his real-life wife, Kate Beckinsale , can’t be too far behind. After Quaid’s run-in with the police at the Rekal center, his loving wife, played by Beckinsale, turns out to be not so loving. In fact, she’s a deadly assassin set on killing Quaid once his past memories have been unlocked. She’s on the tail of Quaid and his new female companion, played by Jessica Biel . Frankly, it’s about time we got an evil turn out of Beckinsale. Anti-gravity gunfight Perhaps the horn blasts throughout the trailer aren’t the only nods to Christopher Nolan’s “Inception.” During the quick clips of scenes near the end of the trailer, we get a brief look at what appears to be a zero-g gunfight. Changing faces The final shot from the trailer is probably the most intriguing. The always fantastic Bryan Cranston , playing the president of Euroamerica, confronts Quaid, who seems more confused than ever. We then see Quaid’s face transform from Farrell’s to two other actors’ and back to Farrell’s. Schwarzenegger’s version of Quaid did some shape-shifting of his own, but never with this much style. WATCH: People Like Us Trailer Gets Rich Quick

The new trailer for People Like Us (nee Welcome to People ) is here, featuring Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks as siblings who meet only after their father dies. The inheritance/estrangement/salvation plot (and a vaguely incestuous vibe that the trailer mostly counteracts with a few key shots of Olivia Wilde as Pine’s wife) thickens around the family, with Michelle Pfeiffer dropping in as Pine’s mother, which is just as bizarre as I expected it would be . Overall, though? Screenwriter Alex Kurtzman’s directorial debut looks all right! If nothing else, at least the title is an improvement. [via Moviefone ] People Like Us – Trailer No. 1 Follow S.T. George Zimmerman Police Video: No Signs of Injury, Blood After Trayvon Martin Shooting

Police surveillance video footage of George Zimmerman hours after he shot Trayvon Martin does not appear to show any injuries or bloodstains on the man who claims he killed the Florida teen in self defense February 26. His attorney says the video is too grainy to be revealing, however. The footage, obtained by ABC News late Wednesday, shows the handcuffed Zimmerman getting out of the police car, unaided, and walking into the police station where he was escorted after the shooting in Sanford, Fla. Watch: George Zimmerman Police Video In the police tape, taken about four hours after the deadly incident, there are no visible signs of injuries to Zimmerman’s head or blood on his clothes. However, he is wearing a red jacket, which could obscure a lot. Zimmerman’s attorney Craig Sonner described the video as “very grainy” on NBC’s Today , noting that Zimmerman had been “cleaned-up” and received first aid care in the hours between the incident and his arrival at the police station. Sonner previously said that his client suffered a broken nose and a gash to his head during the altercation in which he says Zimmerman feared for his life . Appearing on CNN Wednesday, Martin family lawyer Benjamin Crump called the video “the smoking gun,” proving the self-defense allegation is not true. “I think the video speaks for itself. You don’t see any broken nose. You don’t see any blood on his head. You don’t see any stuff on the back of his clothes.” “You have to ask why did this police chief, state attorney and now this acting police chief conspire to protect George Zimmerman for killing this unarmed teenager?” A neighborhood watch volunteer, Zimmerman was released without being charged. The Trayvon Martin case has since become a national obsession. Richard Kurtz, the funeral director who prepared Martin’s body, was asked if there were any signs on his hands that the victim had punched someone. “The only thing that I was able to see was the gunshot wound,” Kurtz told MSNBC. “I could not see evidence like he had been punching somebody.” “It just did not add up to me.” The self-defense claim clearly deserves scrutiny, but whether this is sufficient proof that there was no struggle is something investigators must determine.
