Rush Limbaugh: Electric Cars are Overpriced AIDS Ribbons

Photo via CSMonitor Politico reports that Rush Limbaugh spent a huge chunk of yesterday’s radio broadcast lambasting the Chevy Volt and the tax credits supporting them. Through the course of his ranting, it became clear — as it so often does — that Limbaugh has no idea what he’s talking about. In it, he asserted that “nobody wants” electric cars, and that they amount to nothing more than overpriced AIDS rib… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Bizarre Wind-Powered Car Travels Downwind Faster than Wind (Video)

Image credit: FasterThanTheWind.org I am not sure if this one is awesome, pointless, or a bit of both. It turns out that there is a huge debate in certain circles as to whether it is possible to create a purely wind-powered vehicle that can travel directly downwind, faster than the wind itself. But while some eminent people are claiming it is impossible, others are busy making it happen. And they have video to prove it. … Read the full story on TreeHugger

Sailboats So Green You’ll Want to Quit Your Job and Sail Around the World (Slideshow)

Photo via Popular Science Sailing is one of the world’s oldest — and greenest — forms of transportation, but adding a motor or using synthetic materials to build your ship can negate the environmental benefits of natural wind power. These catamarans, sailboats, and yachts — made of wood and recycled materials, outfitted with solar panels, and including plenty of luxury touches — are setting a new standard in green boating.

The Welcome Return of the Bicycle

Image credit: ItzaFineDay /Flickr The bicycle has many attractions as a form of personal transportation. It alleviates congestion, lowers air pollution, reduces obesity, increases physical fitness, does not emit climate-disrupting carbon dioxide, and is priced within the reach of the billions of people who cannot afford a car. Bicycles increase mobility while reducing congestion and the area of land paved over. Six bicycles can typically fit into the road space used by one car. For parking, the advantage is even greater, with 20 bicycles occupying the space required to… Read the full story on TreeHugger
