Is Oprah Winfrey Angry At Aretha Franklin?

See the original post here:

Oprah Winfrey is feeling like she was disrespected by the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin for granting Wendy Williams the first interview since her surgery. Sources say while Oprah, 57, gives Wendy, 46, credits for snagging the much-coveted sit-down with Aretha, she’s still “steaming,” and feels  that Wendy’s show is “a long way” from hers, and criticizing it for being “silly and gossipy.” “Oprah is about as angry as can be,” said an insider. “This is the final season of her show, and she’s been pushing to land all the big ‘gets’ out there. Oprah is embarrassed that Aretha – a legend – chose Wendy, who is a relative newcomer in the TV talk show world.” “Oprah was not going to keep the whole interview on the illness, which she knows Aretha is reluctant to fully discuss,” said the source. “She was going to get Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown Records, for a touching tribute. But instead, Aretha chose Wendy – and Oprah is NOT happy!” Aretha underwent surgery in December but has never publicly revealed the nature of her health issues. LaLa On Wendy Williams Show: “I Think They Should Be Welcoming Me”

Read the original post:

Lala made an appearance on the Wendy Williams Sho w yesterday to talk about her new move to New York with hubby, NY Knicks player Carmelo Anthony as well as their new reality show. Lala looked beautiful as always while chatting with Wendy during the show. Wendy asked Lala if she was the newly appointed Knicks first lady. She went on to reveal; “I’m the new girl, I think they should be welcoming me.” Lala even went on to say that she hasn’t met the other player’s wives yet, although her and Melo have been there for a couple weeks now. Sounds like an episode of “Basketball Wives” to me! Check out an excerpt of Lala’s interview with Wendy below: Love them both! The Life, Legacy And (Yes) Blackness Of Teena Marie

Upon her untimely death at 54 years old , one simply cannot measure the gargantuan talent of Teena Marie — nee Mary Christine Brockert — by even the greatest of R&B standards. She was utterly unmatched; not even by the vocal dexterity of Mariah Carey, who perhaps had greater technical range, but who has to this day never quite unearthed what Marie did—a soprano-to-alto-and-back-again black soul. Marie, from her Oakland childhood days, was enamored by black spirit (she credited her dear Godmother, a black woman). For a sweet moment in time during the late 70’s through the mid 80’s, she willfully rode the effervescent rollercoaster of the post-black power collective heart without ever hopping off. She was loyal to black soulfulness. She didn’t merely dabble in black music and conveniently weave her way in and out of worlds, playing both sides of the racial fence. She didn’t talk blackness, either. Instead, she showed it… Continue reading at HelloBeautiful.com

Isaac Mizrahi Recaps Fashion Show: ‘There Was a Drama Over Who to Eliminate’

Isaac Mizrahi, who judges and mentors contestants on The Fashion Show: Ultimate Collection , always has more to say about each week’s results than what we see on TV. (Damn editors.) Since we didn’t catch up with Mizrahi last week, we’re reviewing two weeks of Fashion Show couture with him today — including a dated red-leather tribute to Mary J. Blige, a baggy denim ode to grunge, and one of the weirdest necklines you’ve ever seen.

Prince Honored With Lifetime Achievement Award At BET Awards

Alicia Keys, Janelle Monae, Patti LaBelle and more performed spirited renditions of the icon’s classics during tribute. By Rochell Thomas Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images The artist who will forever be known as Prince took the stage on Sunday to accept the Lifetime Achievement Award during the 10th annual BET Awards . “I was pretty wild in my younger days,” the honoree said. BET’s award presentation for Prince united generations and musical styles. Janelle Monae opened the tribute with an energetic cover of “Let’s Go Crazy,” a song that hit big a year before the 25-year-old was born. Next Up: jazz bassist Esperanza Spalding, strumming a custom electric upright bass, sang “If I Was Your Girlfriend.” She was followed by five-months-pregnant Alicia Keys, who played the piano then climbed atop it to provocatively belt out “Adore.” R&B diva Patti LaBelle closed out with the classic “Purple Rain” before Chaka Khan joined her onstage to introduce the man himself. Wearing a flowing, silk pajama-like ensemble bearing the symbol that replaced his name for a time, Prince approached the mic, looking just a bit older, calmer and more subdued than his sex-fueled “When Doves Cry” days. “You don’t have to do what I did. You don’t have to make any of the mistakes I made,” he advised fellow musicians in the audience. Earlier in the show, R&B heartthrob Trey Songz performed his own tribute to Prince, covering “Purple Rain” during his set. The singer then waxed patriotic. “The future’s in your hands now and the world is really yours,” he said. “There is a change in America that’s going on right now. Everybody can feel it. We’re going to be a beacon to the rest of the world.” As known for his groundbreaking music as he is for his raunchy performances, Prince went through a religious conversion a few years ago and appeared humble tonight, soft-spoken even, a contrast to his earlier tendency to come off as eccentric and aloof. He thanked all of the performers who led his tribute as well as top BET executives Debra Lee and Stephen Hill. “Thank you so much Debra Lee and Stephen Hill for a wonderful night tonight,” he said. “I’ll never forget it for as long as he live.” Then he turned and walked offstage with his arms around LaBelle and Chaka Khan, both of whom are have previously been honored with the award. Kevin Eubanks Bids Farewell to The Tonight Show

You didn’t see this on Friday night because you stopped paying attention to Jay Leno a long time ago, but Kevin Eubanks ended his stint as bandleader on The Tonight Show after 18 years — and yes, apparently NBC is folding the five-month sojourn to The Jay Leno Show into Tonight Show history. Who knew?! Anyway, as Leno is prone to do, his goodbye speech to Eubanks was filled with faux-sincerity, but you do get the feeling that Jay will really miss him. If only because it’s doubtful that replacement, American Idol band leader Rickey Minor, will be a ready-made laugh track and comedy foil. After the jump, watch the tribute video The Tonight Show put together for Eubanks, which — surprise! — is actually kinda funny. Well, for Jay Leno.
