Jeff Bridges is a busy dude. (Groan!) In addition to his planned appearance at the cast reunion of The Big Lebowski in New York on Tuesday night as part of Lebowski Fest (check back to Movieline for coverage of the event), the Oscar-winner released his self-titled country album on Tuesday . Bridges celebrated that event by performing selections from the record on SiriusXM’s ‘Outlaw Country’ channel on Monday afternoon, which meant only one thing: awesome Jeff Bridges guitar faces! It’s hard to believe that G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation has become a legitimate summer tentpole from the time of its announcement to its first day of shooting, but that’s sorta what happened. Lots of that has to do with J.J. Abrams’s inability to get the ball rolling on Star Trek 2 in time for Paramount’s planned June 29, 2012 release date — resulting in Joe landing there — but with a cast featuring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson , Channing Tatum, Adrianne Palicki and possibly Bruce Willis , it has become hard to ignore G.I. Joe 2 ‘s potential for box office breakout next summer. Step one on that road is filming, which direct Jon M. Chu has commenced, and Johnson has commemorated on Twitter. Click through for a look.
A year after his 127 Hours ushered in the fall festival season’s hottest fainting sensation , James Franco is plotting his return to Toronto along with rest of the latest group of invitees to the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. And it’s quite a list, with the likes of Franco’s partner (!) Gus Van Sant, Mr. Brainwash, Jennifer Hudson, Lynn Shelton, Rachel Weisz and (ahem) Joel Schumacher making the trip as well. Let’s parse the top 10 highlights from TIFF’ s latest announcement.
Have Beyonce, J.Lo and Coco been replaced by THIS broad?!? Kate Middleton’s little sister seems to be all the rage nowadays Hell with hemlines — the new barometer of trends is now the a$$. And this season, the It Butt belongs to Pippa Middleton. In the most bizarre trend piece I’ve read in a long time, the Times of London (via the Telegraph) speculates that Pippa has replaced former butt greats J. Lo, Beyonce, Serena Williams, and Kim Kardashian as everybody’s gluteal role model. Says plastic surgeon Dr. Constantino Mendieta, The buttocks have been an increasing and escalating interest over the last four to five years, but the iconic figures were Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian. Both have tremendous curves and large buttocks. While lots of people love the overall shape of those women, many felt those derrières were just a bit too big. A bit too … ethnic? Mendieta doesn’t go there. Instead, he continues, [E]ver since the royal wedding, Pippa Middleton has become the new queen of the booty. She opens the doors to those who did not know you could have a small, shapely and perky backside without the large size. We’re not sure what this writer was looking at but, these cakes look like they need more yeast if they’re gonna rise. We’re just sayin’… Source Peep some more pics of Pippa’s posterior and tell us what you think…
These ninjas got the “And what?!?” face There’s been a lot of controversy over the last few weeks surrounding the Poverty Tour organized by Tavis Smiley and Cornel West. The pair has used the nine-state, 18-city event to both highlight the struggle of the nation’s poor as well as to criticize President Obama for what they say is a laissez-faire attitude toward economically marginalized Americans. But in response, they have been labeled as self-promoting, self-serving Obama haters. They have become pariahs in some circles. The blowback has even become personal and nasty, with the comedian Steve Harvey recently calling the duo “Uncle Toms” and the Rev. Al Sharpton and radio personality Tom Joyner taking various shots at them. But as Smiley sat on the Poverty Tour bus on Friday headed to Memphis, Tenn., the final stop on their trip, he said the tour had gone exactly the way he and West had planned. “I am very clear on who I am and who I am not, what I can do and what I can not,” he said during a phone interview. “I have a platform that I can use to bring awareness, to draw attention and create a conversation.” He then rattled off a list of news outlets that covered some aspect of the tour, including “Nightline,” C-Span and CNN, the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun Times, Life Magazine, The Root, The Nation, the Associated Press, NBC, CBS, and The Huffington Post. “The tour did everything it was supposed to do,” he said. “And its not just about raising awareness, it’s about starting a dialogue about poverty and the poor in this country. I don’t get intimidated by haters. Not only are we not intimidated, if we had more resources and time, we would extend the tour,” Smiley said. “The question that I would pose to the critics is not why are we doing what we are doing or saying, it’s ‘if you care about poor people why aren’t you doing anything?’” All the hate the people are tossing Smiley and West’s way hasn’t fallen on numb ears… “For me it hurts, when this jumped off a few years ago and I was the one person nationally and personally raising questions of accountability,” Smiley said. “They wanted Barack Obama to win by any means necessary. I got that then and I get it now, but it hurts and I shed a lot of tears, had a lot of conversations with Dr. West.” “So, it hurts, and it brings me to tears, but at the end of the day I don’t know any other way to live,” he added. “And so what I’ve said to black people is I love you and ain’t nothing you can do about it. These Negroes have tried, but I love them anyway.” Boo-f’n-hoo. The POTUS has a tough job to do, and maybe he’s not doin everything that everyone wants when they want it, but he’s definitely servicing the community. Source
SMH… This fool had his 4-year-old daughter in the backseat and his 8-year-old behind the wheel!!! A man was arrested Sunday in Livingston Parish after state troopers discovered his 8-year-old son was driving the family from Mississippi to Dallas while the man slept, intoxicated. The father, Billy Joe Madden, 28, of Hattiesburg, Miss., was arrested and booked into the Livingston Parish Jail. Louisiana State Police Troop A received a call around 6:30 a.m. from a concerned motorist traveling west on Interstate 12 near Holden, said state police spokeswoman Melissa Matey. The driver said a green Chevrolet pick-up truck was moving erratically and a child appeared to be the driver. Troopers stopped the pick-up truck on I-12, just west of LA 447 in Livingston Parish. Madden was in the passenger seat while his 8-year-old son drove and his 4-year-old daughter sat in the back seat, Matey said. No one was injured. Matey said troopers determined Madden was intoxicated while interviewing him. Both children were turned over to child protective services and are awaiting the arrival of a family member. Officials booked Madden with allowing a minor to drive, keeping an open container in the vehicle, driving without a seat belt, two counts of child desertion and two counts of no child restraint. His bond was set at $1,474. What the hell was he thinking? We’re glad he opted not to drive drunk with his two kids in the car — but this is just as bad!!! Source
Seriously, who chooses these people they want us to entrust our children to??? The principal of a Brooklyn high school for new immigrants had five students do hard labor moving furniture for her instead of doing schoolwork — a daylong field trip from hell that included kids being tossed around in the back of a U-Haul truck, The Post has learned. It’s at least the second time that Altagracia Liciaga, principal of Multicultural HS in Cypress Hills, has been investigated for allegedly outrageous behavior toward her students. Liciaga had sent the students on the dangerous excursion to a Midtown warehouse to pick up school furniture, with three of the teens sitting in the box truck’s dark cargo hold for both legs of the round trip, which each lasted 1½ hours. While two students sat up front in the cab of the truck with a student aide driving, the other three were forced to ride in back — including one teen who tied himself down with a scarf to keep from bouncing around like a pinball. “I thought the trip was very dangerous,” said one of the teens, who like most kids at Multicultural HS is a recently arrived Spanish speaker. “In the back, there [were no seat belts] for us. If I had known that ahead of time, I wouldn’t have gone.” No permission slips were filled out by parents for the unscheduled trip, teachers said. The student, who did not want to be identified for fear of retribution, said he stepped up when Liciaga was seeking volunteers because he likes to help out and because he assumed the errand wouldn’t take long. Instead, he and the four other students left the school before 10 a.m. on Dec. 14, hauled more than a dozen heavy cabinets into the truck and returned to the school after 3 p.m. After they had unloaded all the cargo on the third floor of the school, Liciaga thanked them by giving them tacos. Wait. Tacos, though? SMDH. A city Department of Education spokeswoman told The Post that Liciaga had been reprimanded. “The allegation regarding the furniture was substantiated, and the principal received a letter of reprimand,” the rep said. Wow. And you know the kids’ parents don’t know they can demand better for their children. Source
