We just hope this investigation is more thorough than the last one. According to CNN: Nearly 10 months after their son died, the parents of Kendrick Johnson are finally getting what they’ve been asking for: another investigation into the teen’s mysterious death in the gym of Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Georgia. Michael Moore, the U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, said Thursday that federal authorities will investigate the circumstances behind the death of Johnson, whose bloody body was found inside a rolled-up gym mat on January 11. Johnson’s family suspects the 17-year-old was murdered and that someone has tried to cover up evidence in the case. While warning his jurisdiction is limited as a federal prosecutor, Moore said that after lengthy review of evidence collected by authorities and the family’s own investigator that “sufficient basis exists” to warrant a formal review of the facts. Should evidence gathered in the investigation warrant criminal or civil rights charges, he said he would recommend them. “I will follow the facts wherever they lead. My objective is to discover the truth,” he said. In addition to suspicions of a coverup, the family’s lawyer has also raised civil rights concerns, questioning whether officials in the predominantly white county took the investigation of an African-American teenager’s death seriously enough. Authorities say they did. “We’re happy that a fresh pair of eyes is starting to look at Kendrick’s case,” Kendrick’s father, Kenneth Johnson, told CNN’s Jake Tapper on Thursday. “We’re just waiting on the truth to really come out.” CNN legal analyst Sunny Hostin called the announcement “a significant development for this family and this case.””Now you have the resources of the federal government, in particular the FBI,” she told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. “With that type of resources directed at this investigation, there will be more answers to be found.” What’s done in the dark will always come to light.

Katherine Jackson is a “strong woman” who won’t just beat it after losing her bid to collect $1.5 billion in damages from the King of Pop’s last concert promoter, her lawyer said Thursday. “She’s obviously disappointed, but she’s a very strong woman,” lead plaintiff’s lawyer Brian Panish told the Daily News in an exclusive interview Thursday. “She’s been through a lot in life, and she’s doing the best she can. She only wants what is best for Michael’s children, who are her No. 1 priority.” He said the five-month wrongful death trial was “a search for the truth” that likely didn’t end with Wednesday’s verdict. “There’s going to be more to this story. I don’t think it’s over yet,” Panish said. “We’re not giving up all hope yet.” He said Katherine, 83, was heartened by the jury’s unanimous vote that AEG Live did in fact hire Dr. Conrad Murray. AEG Live argued during the trial that it was Michael who hired the doctor now serving four years for providing the anesthetic propofol that killed him in his bedroom on June 25, 2009. “AEG denied it all along, but the truth was that AEG hired the doctor who killed Michael Jackson,” Panish said. He declined to give specifics on how he might file an appeal, but said he believes the wording of the verdict form question that decided the case in AEG’s favor was possibly faulty. He released a statement on her behalf late Wednesday that slammed AEG for repeatedly calling Katherine’s lawsuit “a shakedown.” “Such a statement is a slap in the face of the entire judicial system that allowed this case to get to a jury,” the statement said. Veteran entertainer and occasional lightning rod Cher has unveiled her upcoming tour, kicking off in 2014 nearly a decade after her so-called Farewell Tour. The Dressed to Kill Tour, as it shall henceforth be known, is scheduled to launch March 22 in Phoenix and run through a July 11 stop in San Diego. The announcement comes just before Cher is to release a new studio album, Closer to the Truth , Tuesday. It’s her first since Living Proof in 2001.
