Seated not too far from Vikings owner Zygi Wilf was one of Minnesota’s most iconic residents: Prince . It was the second game the Purple One has attended this year, and he’s so enthusiastic about his team’s Super Bowl chances that he has penned a fight song called “Purple and Gold.” Released just in time for the Vikings’ conference championship game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, “Purple and Gold” not only brings together the two colors that have defined the artist’s existence for the length of his career but also provides some inspirational words for Favre, Adrian Peterson and the rest of the gridiron crew: “We come in the name of the purple and gold/ All of the odds are in our favor/ No prediction too bold/ We are the truth/ If the truth can be told/ Long reign the purple and gold.” The inspirational song sounds more like an old-timey college-style fight song than any of the rock or funk workouts Prince is traditionally known for.
