MTV Kicks Off Election Coverage With ‘Power Of 12’

Andrew Jenks will hit the campaign trail to talk to young voters and GOP hopefuls in the doc ‘Our Voice,’ airing Tuesday at 4:54 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. By James Montgomery Andrew Jenks speaks with young voters in “Power Of 12: Our Voice” Photo: MTV News On Tuesday, MTV will officially launch the Power of 12 , our coverage of the 2012 election, beginning with the premiere of the documentary “Our Voice.” The doc follows filmmaker Andrew Jenks as he crosses the country — and hits the campaign trail — to speak with young voters about the issues that concern them most, and the Republican candidates that are vying for their support. “Our Voice” will debut Tuesday at 4:54 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. And if you think you know everything about the concerns of the nation’s 45 million voters ages 18 to 29 (or the GOP hopefuls currently courting them), well, you’re in for an eye-opener. Because, as the 25-year-old behind MTV’s doc-style series “World of Jenks” told MTV News, he thought he did too. It was only when Jenks hit the road that he discovered how much he didn’t know. Check out a preview of ‘Power of 12: Our Voice’! “You read blogs or you watch the cable news, and you keep hearing that young voters are disenfranchised, that they don’t trust the system or the politicians,” Jenks said. “And sure, there’s a feeling [among young voters] that the rug has been pulled out from underneath them, but at the same time, the thing that I kept hearing when I’d talk to them is, ‘I’m optimistic.’ They’re concerned about the future of the country, but they’re convinced it’s not too late. People my age feel that they have the power to change the system, even if they think it’s broken. “When I first learned I’d be covering the Republican candidates, I was excited because I knew we’d be able to use this as a platform, to look at these candidates and ask, ‘How are you going to speak to us, the young voters?’ ” he continued. “Because for really the first time, we do kind of have the power. We are 45 million people and we can tilt the election. They have to listen to us and speak with us, because we have the leverage.” “Our Voice” — which features interviews with GOP candidates Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, Ron Paul and more — is just the first phase of MTV’s Power of 12 campaign, which aims to inform and engage young voters and amplify their voices throughout the 2012 elections. Upcoming specials include “When I Was 22,” an MTV News documentary kicking off in early 2012 that gives viewers a unique look at the lives of presidential hopefuls. Candidates will look back on their own lives — back when they were 22 years old. Each episode will paint a portrait of the candidate at a younger age, focusing on their dreams, triumphs, setbacks and the moments of resiliency that ultimately shaped their world view. Additionally, “Fantasy Election ’12,” an online game similar to fantasy baseball and football fantasy league games, that allows users to draft a team of candidates pursuing the White House, Senate and House of Representatives and rack up points. The first-of-its-kind game also rewards players for getting involved in the electoral process — they’ll get extra points for registering to vote, “checking in” to town halls and debates, and discussing issues with friends. MTV News will begin its coverage of the election on the ground in Iowa and New Hampshire, with Jenks and MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway at the helm. For more on MTV’s election coverage, check out the Power of 12 . And make sure to catch the premiere of “Our Voice” on Tuesday at 4:54 p.m. ET/PT on MTV!

‘Breaking Dawn’ Best Scenes: Fans Share Their Picks

In ‘Twilight’ Tuesday, Twilighters tell MTV News their favorite moments. By Kara Warner Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” Photo: Summit Entertainment With “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 1” still crushing all competition at the box office , it’s clear from the film’s overwhelming fan support that the highly anticipated instant hit will be raking in more dough in the coming weeks and months. In last week’s installment of “Twilight” Tuesday, we asked fans how many times they planned on seeing “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” in theaters, and their revelations were both impressive and astounding: One young woman had seen the film 19 times in the first six days and claimed that she wasn’t finished yet. So, with those multiple viewings in mind — and the dedicated masses who have now seen the film enough times to reenact it from memory — today’s “Twilight” Tuesday is about fans’ favorite scenes. As expected, plenty of folks had trouble selecting just one favorite scene from the action-packed, 117-minute movie. In addition to the three early favorites — the honeymoon scene, birth scene and wedding scene — according to our quick poll, fans seem happiest with the family toasts at Edward and Bella’s wedding and Jacob imprinting on Renesmee. “Love wedding scene and Charlie’s speech, also Jake’s imprinting to Renesmee scene,” Daniela Imrichova said. “I feel the wedding speeches were a well-thought addition 2 the movie – since it wasnt in the books. LUV Emmet’s the best!” gushed Kristen Grumbine . “My favorite scene was Jake imprinting on Renesmee it really touched my heart that Jake finally found true love,” Christine Waters chimed in. “Jacob imprinting its perfect. I’ve seen it four times so far and still cry,” admitted Desiree Kozlowski . “I have already watched it 3 times. #Favoritepart = THE WHOLE MOVIE,” wrote Valentina . “I will keep going till they stop playing it!! And my favorite scene?? The whole movie was amazing! #obsessed,” wrote Robyn Smyly . Kim Kardashian Wasn’t ‘Worried’ About Kris Humphries Pre-Split

‘We have a lot of trust, and I don’t think either of us would do anything to break that,’ reality star told Marie Claire pre-divorce. By Jocelyn Vena Kim Kardashian in Marie Claire Photo: Marie Claire In the two weeks since Kim Kardashian took over the entertainment news cycle with the announcement of her divorce from Kris Humphries , the reality starlet has maintained a relatively low profile, emerging this week only to thank her fans on her blog. But Kardashian will appear on the cover of the December issue of Marie Claire and opened up to the magazine about her then-married life in an interview conducted before the headline-making news broke. “I’m not worried about him at all. We have a lot of trust, and I don’t think either of us would do anything to break that. It makes life so easy,” the cover girl told the mag, out November 22. “He’s such a good guy; he is so down-to-earth, and it’s such a reality check. He is a normal guy, and I just want to chill out and be normal and not get glammed up all the time. He gets it. Sometimes my life can be really intimidating for people, but he allows me to work and do what I’ve gotta do.” The interview is full of pre-divorce praise for Humphries. “It’s fun to have a partner who understands your life and lets you be you,” Kim said about her soon-to-be-ex-husband. “I feel like where we’re at right now is the best time in my life.” The wedding itself netted as many headlines as the divorce, resulting in a four-hour-long E! special covering the event. “I felt like if I didn’t show the wedding, it would be upsetting for people who have taken this journey with me,” she said about her decision to film all the fuss leading up to the lavish ceremony and reception. Regarding rumors that the wedding cost in excess of $20 million, she said, “I don’t talk about money.” Next up, fans will get to see the marriage strife experienced by Kim and Kris in the next season of “Kourtney & Kim Take New York,” which airs later this month on her home network. “We’ll just be who we are, and — love it or hate it — we have each other. Everything that goes on is stuff we do,” she said of her family’s decision to air their lives on TV. “I think that’s what makes it so relatable, because we are not afraid to show crazy things.” Related Photos Kim Kardashian And Kris Humphries: A Whirlwind Romance

Zuccotti Park Cleared By Police

NYPD swept in early Tuesday morning and arrested 70 protesters. By Gil Kaufman Workers clean up Zuccotti Park in New York City after police removed Occupy Wall Street protesters on Tuesday morning Photo: Spencer Platt/ Getty Images The end of the Occupy Wall Street protest in New York’s Zuccotti Park came swiftly, loudly and under the cover of night. Without warning, the New York Police Department swooped down early Tuesday (November 15) morning on the protester camp in the city park and ordered its residents to clear out or face arrest. The squatters, who had occupied the park since September 17 in a protest against economic inequality in the U.S. that helped spark a national and international movement, were told that the camp was to be “cleared and restored” by morning and that they could return at a later time. According to The New York Times the 200 protesters who remained in Zuccotti (which they’d renamed “Freedom Park”) initially resisted the police action and met officers with chants of “whose park? Our park!” But as police moved in and began tearing down tents and removing the encampment, the occupiers retreated to a central area and tried to barricade themselves behind tables and scraps of wood. Click through to “Voices From Occupy Wall Street” — our interactive photo gallery — and get to know 20 young demonstrators’ motivations, hopes and goals. The effort to clear out the public park in began around 1 a.m. and though dozens of occupiers left over the next few hours, a number refused, locking arms and ignoring police orders to evacuate. Two hours into the action helmeted officers moved in and pulled the remaining squatters out one-by-one and handcuffed them, with more than 70 arrested in the action. Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s office Tweeted about the removal around 1:19 a.m., saying, “Occupants of Zuccotti should temporarily leave and remove tents and tarps. Protesters can return after the park is cleared.” Bloomberg, who was scheduled to discuss the action on Tuesday morning, later issued a statement explaining the action. “I have become increasingly concerned — as had the park’s owner, Brookfield Properties — that the occupation was coming to pose a health and fire safety hazard to the protestors and to the surrounding community,” Bloomberg said. “We have been in constant contact with Brookfield and yesterday they requested that the City assist it in enforcing the no sleeping and camping rules in the park. But make no mistake — the final decision to act was mine.” Even as Bloomberg ordered the park cleared, he noted that protesters would still be able to gather there, but would be banned from setting up tents and sleeping bags. Residents of the area and workers who travel through the perimeter of the park have been complaining for weeks that the occupation has interrupted their lives due to noise, congestion and the barricading of sidewalks. “Protestors have had two months to occupy the park with tents and sleeping bags,” Bloomberg said. “Now they will have to occupy the space with the power of their arguments.” In addition to international headlines, the protests drew the attention of a number of celebrities who came down to the camp to visit and get a glimpse at the movement. Among the artists who made their way to Zuccotti over the past few months are Talib Kweli and Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Susan Sarandon, Tom Morello, folk icon Pete Seeger, actor Mark Ruffalo, film maker Michael Moore, Joan Baez, Jay-Z , Katy Perry, Russell Brand and Russell Simmons. The move in New York comes as other cities have begun cracking down on Occupy protesters, with police in Oakland , Salt Lake City and Portland, Oregon forcefully taking action against the sit-ins. According to My Fox New York , some occupiers moved to another city park around 10 blocks north of Zuccotti on Tuesday morning, setting up shop in Foley Square. The new location is just blocks from City Hall. Related Videos Inside Occupy Wall Street ‘True Life: I’m Occupying Wall Street’ Preview

In Nasty Scumbag News: Jerry Sandusky’s Sexual Abuse Victim Count Has Now Grown From 8 To Almost 20

Man, this thing keeps getting uglier: It was an emotional Tuesday night in Happy Valley, and there were lots of developments in the Penn State child sex scandal. Sources tell FOX 29 News that, since a press conference on Monday, the number of potential victims has more than doubled in the case. We’ve learned there may be as many as 17 accusers coming forward against one-time Penn State University defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. State officials publicized two phone numbers for potential victims to call, and within a day it seems investigators have new leads. There are eight victims listed in the grand jury presentment, and 40 charges have been leveled against Sandusky, a long-time assistant to Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno. Sandusky allegedly met the boys through The Second Mile, a charity he founded in the late 1970s. Paterno was not named in the grand jury finding as violating any laws, and authorities have said he is not a target of the investigation. Students rallied Tuesday night in support of Paterno, but we heard that university trustees were huddling up, too. FOX 29′s Bruce Gordon reported that university trustees met via teleconference Tuesday night. Around 11 p.m. came word that the trustees will appoint a special committee to investigate the scandal that has rocked the school. Paterno was clearly overcome with emotion. “It’s hard for me to tell you how much this means to me. All right? You guys, I’ve lived for this place, I’ve lived for people like you guys and girls, and I’m just so happy to see that the, you know, that you feel so strongly about us and about your school.” Mindful that the show of support was turning into a pep rally, Paterno asked the students to keep the young victims of this sex scandal in their prayers. “Tough life when people do certain things to you. But, anyway, you guys have been great,” Paterno said. Paterno should have been praying for those victims back when Sandusky’s trifling a$$ was abusing them. Source More On Bossip!
