SNL Scorecard: Other Than Helen Mirren’s Breasts, A Very Flat Night

There’s really no way to soften the blow here: Helen Mirren’s turn as Saturday Night Live host was a massive disappointment. Flat, flat, flat… everything the whole night — well, except her breasts in one sketch — was flat. Resorting to the tired and meta ” SNL isn’t funny anymore” jokes as early as the cold open reveals a staff that appears to be looking ahead to its three-week break ( SNL , thankfully at this point, doesn’t return until May 7). So, yeah, enjoy your break, guys. Please think of something funny while you’re gone. Meanwhile, on to a very depressing scorecard…

Faceless Social Network Actor Finds Redemption in Dark Knight Rises

Josh Pence, better known as the actor who was shafted in The Social Network when producers superimposed Armie Hammer’s visage on his, has been cast in The Dark Knight Rises . The actor will play a young Ra’s Al Ghul (Batman’s mentor-turned-enemy) in flashback scenes. Here’s to hoping that the actor gets, quite literally, the face time he deserves. [ THR ]

David O. Russell Considering Buddy Cianci Biopic?

Tribeca Film Festival co-founder Jane Rosenthal said that David O. Russell is considering directing an adaptation of former Providence mayor Buddy Cianci’s book Politics and Pasta , which follows the author’s years of busting mobsters and landing in jail on racketeering charges. Could Rosenthal partner Robert De Niro, who reportedly made a deal with Cianci back in 2008 and may appear in Russell’s Uncharted , help seal the deal — and, perhaps, star as the notorious politician?

Precious: Andy Serkis Will Act as Second Unit Director on The Hobbit

As if reprising his role of Gollum in The Hobbit wasn’t enough for Andy Serkis, the motion capturing actor will also work as second unit director during the New Zealand film shoot. “I think I understand Peter’s sensibility and we have a common history of understanding Middle Earth,” Serkis told THR . “A lot of the crew from The Lord of the Rings was returning to work on The Hobbit . There is really a sense of Peter wanting people around him who totally understand the material and the work ethic.” No truth to the rumor that Serkis will also handle the costume jewelry on the set. Know Your In-Development Snow White Projects: A Movieline Guide

The past few weeks have been filled with Snow White casting announcements. Some were surprising ( Lily Collins as the fairest of them all), others were oddly satisfying (Armie Hammer as the Prince), and all of them were hard to keep track of — if only because Hollywood is not just regurgitating the Grimm fairy tale once next year, but twice. Ahead, Movieline distinguishes the Snow White projects once and for all.

Generations have learned how to flirt, how to seduce, and how to fall in love based on what we see on the big screen. Which American Film Icons Deserve to Have Their Faces on Money?

Over in progressive Sweden, cinema icons Ingmar Bergman and Greta Garbo are among six famous Swedes whose faces will appear on currency in 2014 . Garbo, silent film veteran and one of the greatest actresses of the Golden Age of Hollywood, replaces noted 18th century botanist Carl Linnaeus on the 100 kronor bill; Bergman, one of the most influential filmmakers of the 20th century, gets his own brand-spanking new 200 kronor banknote. But this begs the question: Which influential and iconic American filmmakers similarly deserve to have their faces on dollar bills?
