It’s a good thing he has that internal ambition, because according to Bryant, he’s gone through his 16-year career without a true rival on the exterior to push him to succeed. “I didn’t have one,” Bryant said after scoring 38 points in the Lakers’ 115-107 win over the Sacramento Kings on Friday. Despite Bryant’s acknowledging that it’s not just another game, he wouldn’t characterize his relationship with LeBron James as a rivalry. “Not for me,” Bryant said. “I get up for everybody just the same, to be honest. It’s hard for me to turn my meter up any higher than it normally is.” OK, Bryant was asked, how about Dwyane Wade? After all, Wade plays shooting guard just as Bryant does, Wade has one Finals MVP trophy to Bryant’s two, and Wade has to be close to as competitive as Bryant or else he wouldn’t have given Bryant that hard foul across the face in the All-Star Game. “He’s too young,” Bryant said. “He’s too young. When I came into the league, he was in elementary school.” Bryant is three years older than Wade, but was already a seven-year veteran when Wade was drafted in 2003. Bryant said it is “a little late in the game” for him to develop a rivalry with any current NBA player, so instead he is chasing names in the record books rather than in box scores from the 2011-12 season. “At this point my rivals, in terms of what I have left to accomplish in my career, (left the game) when Magic (Johnson) and Michael (Jordan) retired in ’98,” Bryant said, referring to the second of Jordan’s three retirements that came after he won his sixth and final championship with the Chicago Bulls. “That’s it. In terms of what I’m looking to accomplish, that’s about it.” The San Antonio Spurs’ Tim Duncan won four championships to Bryant’s five throughout their shared careers, but Bryant said while the Spurs might have qualified as a team rival to his Lakers, Duncan’s individual rivalry came against Shaquille O’Neal as a fellow big man. “He was never in my position,” Bryant said. “He was more Shaq’s rival than mine. As a team, the Spurs were always a team that we had to go through. So from that standpoint, yes, but in terms of personally, no. I’ve outgrown them all, from A.I. (Allen Iverson) when I first came in to (Tracy) McGrady to Vince Carter and so forth and so on.” Bryant said that he developed the desire to win multiple championships from an early age. “It’s always what I want to accomplish,” Bryant said. “That’s what you set your goals at. Growing up, watching them, they’ve always won multiple championships and that was always something that I felt like must be done. So, my goal originally when I was a kid and so forth, and when I was a teenager, always started from gauging them.” Although he makes a valid point, someone is certainly feelin himself wayyyyy to much. Hmmmm… Several high-powered names have been bandied about for a possible No. 2 on the GOP presidential ticket. Sarah Palin, the Republicans’ last VP nominee, on Saturday threw out a new one – Florida Rep. Allen West. “I would like to see considered for the VP Col. Allen West,” she told Fox News. “In this tumultuous time … he served in the military and has intimate knowledge of the way the military works and should work by having a close family member serve. Someone like that.” Palin isn’t ruling out another run herself on the ticket, should she be asked. “It is not a no. I’m not saying no. But what I am saying is if I were in a GOP presidential candidate’s shoes, I would look to Col. Allen West.” Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie are among the other names that have been floated as potential running mates. Palin, who has been consistently undecided about her favorite in the presidential race, on Saturday also said she would support Mitt Romney if he is the nominee. Despite lingering discontent in some corners of the party with Romney, he is still the clear delegate frontrunner. “Anybody but Obama. Mitt Romney’s proven himself as a businessman and as a governor. He’s been the CEO of the state and understands amendment and states’ rights that Barack Obama doesn’t understand.” Palin stopped short of an endorsement. She also praised Rick Santorum for his efforts to bridge the gap between conservatives and independents and union workers in Michigan. But, she had a message for all the candidates: “I think that observers of the GOP process do get tired of some of the pettiness that goes on in the campaigns.” Meanwhile, Palin told Fox News she has no plans to see the new HBO movie “Game Change,” which is based on the 2008 McCain-Palin campaign. The movie trailers depict the Palin character as unprepared. “I am not going to see the movie and neither is Senator John McCain. According to a news release from the ACLU, Haywood High School Principal Dorothy Bond also said that gay students were “not on God’s path” and were “ruining their lives.” The published policies of the Haywood County schools list “physical contact” as a minor infraction. But students complained to the ACLU that during a Feb. 9 school assembly, Bond said that gay students showing affection could face 60-day suspensions, assignments to an alternative school or expulsion. The ACLU also said Bond has incorporated prayers and proselytizing into school events and once told a lesbian student that she would go to hell. Naturally, this didn’t sit well with the ACLU who came down on her like a firestorm, causing her to resign. It’s 2012, why are people still saying things like this and thinking they won’t get fired or asked to sit their a$$es at home? Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas testified at former teammate Perrish Cox’s sexual assault trial Wednesday, saying that Cox carried a sleeping woman into his bed and then told Thomas, “I think she’s ready.” Cox is accused of sexually assaulting the woman, who testified earlier Wednesday. Both the woman and Thomas told jurors they kissed on an air mattress at Cox’s apartment after meeting Cox and Cox’s girlfriend at a club. Thomas said the woman fell asleep, and he dismissed Cox’s suggestion, saying he didn’t want to have sex with the woman because she was drunk. “I wanted to have sex with her but I didn’t,” Thomas testified. “We hadn’t done nothing before. I wasn’t going to try nothing that night because she had been drinking. She had got drunk.” Cox’s lawyer, Harvey Steinberg, objected to Thomas’ testimony because he hadn’t used the “she’s ready” phrase in a previous interview and asked for a mistrial. The judge rejected that. Thomas testified that Cox then sat with him in the living room for a while. He said the woman was still in the bedroom when he left about an hour later. The woman testified that she had a fuzzy memory of what happened that night and suspected she had been drugged after she woke up feeling sick the next day. Under questioning from Cox’s attorney, the woman said if something had happened with Thomas, she wouldn’t have considered it rape. “It wouldn’t have been fine but I wouldn’t have seen it as rape if he admitted it,” she said, referring to Thomas. She said Thomas denied that anything had happened. Later, she found out she was pregnant, and she contacted authorities Oct. 28, 2010. A DNA analyst testified that a paternity test using a sample taken from the woman’s placenta showed that Cox was the father, with more than 99 percent certainty. Thomas and Cox’s roommate, Cassius Vaughn, who was asleep in the apartment at the time of the alleged assault, also submitted DNA samples and were ruled out as the father. Steinberg rebutted the expert’s testimony by suggesting the sample may have been contaminated because it was an expedited request. Prosecutors Chris Gallo and Bob Chappell present a case that’s straightforward: Cox denies having sex with the woman, who can’t recall having sex that night but became pregnant and Cox’s DNA matched the fetus. But Steinberg, through cross examination of the prosecutors’ witnesses, paints a picture of partying and failed sexual relations between Thomas and the woman, and possible sexual relations between the woman and Cox’s girlfriend, Carthy Che. Thomas testified that the alleged victim was the aggressor when she jumped in the front seat with him and they started kissing as they drove with Cox and Che to Cox’s apartment. The alleged victim testified that she didn’t think she was drunk because she said she could have between 10 and 15 drinks without blacking out. Che also testified but rambled at times and couldn’t recall whether she spoke to an investigator who was sitting in the courtroom. In a question sent through Douglas County District Judge Paul King, jurors asked whether she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Thomas said the woman and Che appeared fine and were able to walk up the stairs to the apartment. Thomas sent the woman a text message around noon that day to ask if she remembered what happened earlier, which the woman told police she found suspicious. Thomas said he sent the text after Vaughn told him at practice that Che and the accuser had “girl-on-girl action.” “I asked if she hooked up with Che,” Thomas testified. He said he stopped texting her after she didn’t respond to about five messages. Cox has pleaded not guilty to one count of sexual assault while the victim was physically helpless and one count of sexual assault while the victim was incapable of determining the nature of the conduct. He faces two years to life in prison if convicted. Wow. Just wow!!! This story is wrong on too many fawking levels!!!
