Six Fired At Howard University For Stealing $1M Of Financial Aid Money

As if HBCU’s didn’t have enough issues finding funds, six Howard University employees were fired last year for stealing $1 million in student financial aid. This revelation comes at particularly difficult time for the university, whose students have demanded changes at the historically Black institution. The university’s president, Wayne Frederick has been under fire for some time. Earlier this year, in the arctic blast that hit the East Coast, the university’s spring semester was delayed by damages from weather related burst pipes. And as you may remember, Howard has not been the only major HBCU with issues with their sitting president.  Morehouse’s president was ultimately ousted as students demanded changes at that HBCU as well. NBC News reports: Six Howard University employees were fired last year for “gross misconduct and neglect of duties” following an independent auditor’s investigation into misappropriation of financial aid funds, according to  a statement from the school’s president Wayne A.I. Frederick. The firings took place in September, 2017, and were made public Wednesday in Frederick’s statement. According to the statement, some university employees received two kinds of benefits when they were only supposed to receive one. One kind of benefit is tuition remission, which waives tuition costs for employees who are enrolled in university classes. The other benefit was a university grant. The two benefits together added up to more than the cost of attendance, which resulted in the employees receiving improper refunds. Frederick said he was first made aware of the problem in December, 2016. He later brought in an outside auditor to supplement the school’s internal investigation. Howard completed its internal investigation of “individual employee actions” in September, 2017, and said it would refer any actions for “criminal prosecution” when appropriate. The employees were not identified. The University is still working with outside experts to determine the total amount of misappropriated money during the nine-year span. The statement also lists a series of new policies and procedures as a direct result of the investigation’s findings, including the hiring of a new chief compliance officer. The announcement comes less than 24 hours after an anonymous post published on Medium alleged financial abuses at the University. NBC News was not able to independently verify the specific allegations made in the original Medium post. The post was removed from Medium Wednesday afternoon. Howard University officials tell NBC News the president’s statement Wednesday was not prompted by the Medium post. In a  radio interview  with HBCU Digest, Frederick said he was very “concerned” about the results of the investigation getting out because criminal charges against individuals involved are still a “possibility.” One of the employees accused,  made this statement via Twitter:   ABC News has received the following statement on behalf of Tyrone Hankerson Jr. pic.twitter.com/hIA8uaIlG3 — Anastasia (@AnastasiaElyseW) March 28, 2018 Tyrone Hankerson via Instagram The revelations of financial abuses comes at a particularly challenging time for the prominent HBCU and its president. Sunday night, HUResist, a student-led activist group at Howard,  posted a list of nine demands  ranging from better university housing accommodations to greater administration accountability. The group also called for Frederick’s “immediate resignation.” Last year, faculty leaders  voted  “no confidence” in Frederick — though the vote’s legitimacy has been questioned. In addition to voicing their concerns on the availability of university housing, Howard students  have been critical  of Frederick’s visit with the Trump administration and his handling of certain student matters. School officials tell NBC News the University plans to “exercise all options to recoup the funds” and that any money that is taken away from students is “unacceptable.” As could be expected, social media had a field day with Hankerson, one of the alleged embezzlers, to the point that “Tyrone” was a trending topic on Twitter. Derick Dillard: What?! I Was Not Fired by TLC!

Jill Duggar’s husband Derick Dillard lives in a world where transgender people literally do not exist. Based on this view, the former reality star has earned significant backlash online. But it actually may not be the best example of how Dillard lives in his own, manufactured universe. Not after the ex-Counting On regular responded a few days ago to statement about his status on this popular TLC program. “Missing you and Jill on Counting On. Do not know why you are gone from the show,” wrote a fan of Derick’s this month, adding: “Loved watching your journey. God Bless you, Jill and the kids.” Dillard appreciated the message and wrote back: “We were going in a different direction as a family and decided to stop doing filming.” “Thank you; we hope you are encouraged in some way by our journey, especially our reliance upon our savior, Jesus Christ.” To anyone who has actually followed Dillard’s journey, this response is rich… … and flat out inaccurate. Last November, TLC issued a statement that said it had “no plans” to work with Dillard in the future after he made controversial statements about the LGBT community. Specifically, Dillard insulted and mocked fellow reality star Jazz Jennings on multiple occasions, lashing out at her transgender lifestyle. For example, just three weeks ago, Dillard labeled Jennings as a male , despite the teenager insisting in many occasions that she identities as female. Long before this latest jab, Dillard took it upon himself to slam the entire concept of anyone identifying as a gender that he or she was not born as, Tweeting: “What an oxymoron… a ‘reality’ show which follows a non-reality. ‘Transgender’ is a myth. Gender is not fluid; it’s ordained by God.” At the time, Derick tried to defend himself. Terribly. He stated that he had nothing against Jennings; that he “only [has an] issue with the words and definitions being propagated here.” So, you know, Dillard only has an issue with everything Jennings is, and stands for. That’s all. Nothing more! Several weeks after Derick first attacked Jennings and people like her, TLC confirmed it would never work with the bigot again. We want to let our viewers know that Derick Dillard has not participated in Counting On for months , wrote the network late last year, adding: The network has no plans to feature him in the future. We want to reiterate that Derick’s personal statements do not reflect the views of the network. TLC is proud to share the story of Jazz Jennings and her family and will continue to do so. Could one interpret this as saying that Dillard CHOSE not participate in filming, as he claims above, and the network then simply let viewers know that it didn’t plan on including him going forward? Yes. But does anyone really doubt that Dillard would embrace the opportunity to enter the spotlight again via a role on the show if asked by producers? ‘Witches’ Are Casting A Binding Spell On Trump And We Love It

Excerpt from:

I n case you forgot, it was white women who got President Trump into office. Even through decades of sexism and “grab ’em by the p***sy,” white women didn’t fail the reality star. According to NewRepublic.com , “more white women voted for Donald Trump than for Hillary Clinton” and “The only factor that differentiated the level of support among white women voters was education, with college-educated white women favoring Clinton, compared to non-college educated women who favored Trump by a far higher margin.” Now, some white women are trying to fix that in unique ways — witchcraft. See below: Actually,  this is nothing new. Vox reported back in October that every month a group of witches go to Trump Tower in New York City and cast a spell to protect America from our insane president. They are  known as “resistance witches” and “at least 13,000-strong umbrella group of internet neo-pagans, Wiccans, solo practitioners who self-identify as ‘hedge witches,’ longtime magical practitioners in various traditions, and committed activists.” They are part of a #MagicResistance (yes, that is a real thing) and have come together every month since Trump’s inauguration. The folks are serious, check out some of their tweets below: We're hunting you, all right! And we're not stopping until you're driven from office, Little Benedict Donald! #BindTrump #MagicResistance #WitchHunt pic.twitter.com/FLFOBtvm6X — Michael M. Hughes (@michaelmhughes) March 19, 2018 Tonight is the dark of the moon. Perfect for power spells, banishments, etc. Tonight we #BindTrump to protect our country from harm. #MagicResistance — Myrth (@MyrthMystic) March 17, 2018 Thank you all for sharing your hearts & magic. Remember that everything that changes takes time, nothing is permanent, especially him. The more he loses power, the more he screams. So mote it be! #MagicResistance #BindTrump pic.twitter.com/GexFTiJnZP — Kitty_Lemiew (@Kitty_Lemiew) March 15, 2018 “That time of the month” means something a little different around here. #magicresistance #bindtrump https://t.co/1T8XZOPlKD pic.twitter.com/eY1uQ088hK — Mildly Unstable Genius (@fizzbulous) March 15, 2018 While we love any form of resistance, and this one is pretty damn hilarious, these spells do not seem to be working. Maybe they need to call on some Yoruba or Santeria saints, Oshun and Oya might make magic happen. Let’s hope Ben Carson doesn’t hear about this, he will surely think all liberals are possessed by witchcraft — even though he is possessed by stupidity. Jenelle Evans: Who Needs Teen Mom 2? I’ve Got a New Show!

Teen Mom 2 fans know that Jenelle could be fired any day now. Her awful husband David Eason was already fired and many wonder if MTV will continue filming Jenelle’s life without her husband But it looks like Jenelle is already setting up another potential revenue stream. Is she just being uncharacteristically careful, or … does this mean that she’s actually been fired? Jenelle took to social media to share the good news with her followers. Well … to share the news, anyway. “I’m back! Check out new videos on my YouTube soon,” she wrote. She followed it up with further details. “The adventures start this Friday on 03/16/2018 at 8pm. Go subscribe now.” Oh, and of course this image. Social media users were quick to roast Jenelle, first zeroing in on the fact that Teen Mom 2 costar Kailyn Lowry also has a YouTube channel. “Try harder to be Kail it’s hilarious.” Some even brought memes into the mix. “Damnnnnn Jenelle, back at it again with the copying @KailLowry.” Obviously, comparisons between Jenelle and Kail are unfair. As evidence when Kailyn slams Jenelle for the latter’s bigoted beliefs and actions, Kail is a much kinder and more accepting person than Hurricane Jenelle. Also, one has to wonder if Kailyn could be as bad of a parent as Jenelle is if she tried . David Eason was fired for his homophobic and transphobic Twitter tirade . The strangest thing about that situation may be that he decided, of his own accord, to bring up and promptly condemn LGBT+ parents (for existing) in an attempt to deflect from his own parenting “inadequacies.” And by “inadequacies,” we mean that he’s allegedly an abusive terror who shouldn’t be allowed around a pet rock, let alone a human child. When David Eason lost the moral high ground to Farrah Abraham , a lot of fans knew that he was toast. While David’s hardly Jenelle’s only bad choice — her personal history is a series of disastrous decisions, one after the other like rungs on a ladder — fans wonder if his bigoted tweets will end her career. If Jenelle shares that fear — or if she already knows that she’s been fired and the rest of us just haven’t heard yet — that could definitely explain why she’s venturing onto YouTube. Of course, if Jenelle is hoping to rake in that sweet, sweet Teen Mom money on YouTube … she may be in for a nasty surprise. YouTube can turn streamers into millionaires, sure … but they’re the exceptions. For starters, if you want to actually make money off of your YouTube channel to any real degree, it’s said that you need about a million subscribers. Minimum. Not views, not likes. Subscribers . Teen Mom may be a popular franchise, but Jenelle is just one star among many. It’s unclear how many followers her YouTube channel, which has been sitting around gathering proverbial dust for years with barely more than 40,000 followers, is going to attract. And it’s similarly unclear what Jenelle means by “off the grid.” Is she going to be vacationing to exotic locales? Venturing into the wilderness? Both of those are expensive, especially for a busy mother. Not exactly ideal for someone who might get sacked from MTV. Perhaps Jenelle should be venturing onto the “grid” at some point. She wouldn’t even need to leave her home state. She could visit cities or either of North Carolina’s world class universities and meet people who are different and come to understand and not fear them. Maybe that “grid” just means MTV, and she’ll be “off” of it because she knows that she’s getting canned. We’ll have to wait and see. Man Dressed as Elsa Rescues Police Wagon from Snow

Hey, the cold never bothered her anyway, right? Video of a drag queen dressed like Queen Elsa of Arendelle has gone viral after a blizzard blanketed Boston on Tuesday night and this unexpected hero came to the rescue of a stuck police truck. It all started with city resident Chris Haynes eating tacos at South End restaurant The Gallows. When he took a peek outside to see how much snow was falling, Haynes was taken aback to find a man dressed like a certain Frozen character helping out Boston's finest. “Yup, that just happened,” Haynes wrote as a caption on Facebook upon sharing the video, which has been viewed over 3.9 million times. He added: “Drag ‘Elsa’ just single-handedly pushed out a stuck police wagon. Only in the South End and The Gallows.” According to The Boston Globe, the Elsa impersonator was Jason Triplett, a 37-year-old lawyer from Boston who had no real motivation for donning this costume aside from making his friends laugh. In the viral footage, Triplett repeatedly tries to free the wagon from the snow until, at long last, he succeeds. “That’s what makes the video so special, I think,” Haynes told Boston.com. “Because of his persistence.” One might (annoyingly) say that, when it came to this task, Triplett refused to LET IT GO until he pushed the van to freedom. Everyone inside the restaurant cheered loudly after Triplett accomplished his feat, which prompted a curtsy from the pretend queen. “The officers involved were especially grateful for the help and would like to thank the Elsa-impersonator for the assist,” Boston Police Officer James Kenneally, a spokesman for the department, told the aforementioned newspaper. “Everyone will be over it by noon,” Triplett himself told People Magazine of his fame. “But if this is my 15 minutes, I would like to leverage it to meet Adam Rippon.” HA! Check out the video below:

Kylie Jenner BLASTED by Fans Over Racy Makeup Names

Now that Kylie has welcomed baby Stormi Webster into the world, she’s once again back to business as usual on social media. And that means plugging her makeup. But the makeup mogul’s new line of blushes are receiving a lot of outraged reactions. It turns out that Kylie’s names for the makeup, targeted at very young teens, is wildly inappropriate. Before she even became pregnant or turned twenty (which she did in that order), Kylie built a powerful makeup empire. It started, mostly with her lip kits. We all know that makeup is expensive and how powerful the Kardashian brand is, but few would have expected for Kylie to blossom into a titan of industry practically overnight. Today, Kylie Cosmetics is worth so much that it’ll make your head spin — and is projected to be worth one billion dollars within just a few short years. But not even Kylie’s juggernaut of a brand, undaunted by her months of social media solitude during her pregnancy, is immune to criticism from fans. And they were horrified to see Kylie’s new blushes. Particularly, their names. See if you can spot what so many fans found so troubling about Kylie’s new blush names. A number of Kylie’s fans found those names and others very objectionable. “When you have millions of teenage fans who look up to you, what do you name your new blushers? ‘Virginity’ ‘Barely legal’ and ‘X-rated’ of course.” Considering that Kylie was dating Tyga, a grown man and a father, when she was just 17 … Barely Legal seems to be in especially poor taste. “Really? @KylieJenner. You literally couldn’t think of ANY other names to give them?” Users bring up that many of Kylie’s most impressionable fans are still in middle school and figuring out who they want to be. “Seriously @KylieJenner, choose better names for your products. You have 12+ year old fans! ‘Barely Legal,’ ‘Virginity.’” The choices that tweets and young teens make about how they view sex and sexuality should be theirs to make, not because of the influence of a 20-year-old mom. One outspoken critic decided to go right for the jugular. “Kylie Jenner decided to name her cheap blushes with an even cheaper names.” Kylie’s brushes for her products have notoriously been the subject of complaints by many people who say that the brushes are poor quality and absolutely not worth the price. “All 14 yr Olds moms will be racing to buy virginity, hot n bothered & barely legal.” Well, that’s a little hyperbolic. Naturally, Tyga, who Kris Jenner says is not Kylie’s baby daddy , came up again. “Seems they’re named after her life, underage dating a 20 something dad.” They’re still bringing him up even though Kylie’s moved on to a different no-name rapper who is several years older than she is. Come on, folks. Keep up. Still others continued to excoriate Kylie over this. “Kylies new blushes which are aimed to her tween/teen market, are called HOT AND BOTHERED- X RATED-VIRGINITY-BARELY LEGAL.” Again, sexuality is fine, but these tweeters take issue with Kylie’s young and impressionable target audience. “[What the hell] is wrong with her?” Kylie’s an adult and a mother, now. They feel that she’s supposed to have a better sense of responsibility. “Seems she’s getting desperate for [attention] & any way to get her name out there, even at the expense of her young fans is ok. Disgusted.” Those are some valid points — and, honestly, the line “barely legal” has only gotten creepier with time. But let’s play devil’s advocate for a moment. Kylie is trying to sell a product. Not only does she need to draw attention to it (outrage is free advertising, folks), but she wants to sell it to her target audience. A lot of people buying Kylie’s makeup are going to want to feel more empowered and more sexual. (And hey, more power to them) After a certain age, plenty of girls stop wanting to buy makeup that’s called Rainbow Stardust or whatever. That’s a normal stage in development. So maybe Kylie’s secret to success gets her some hate on social media. It’ll still help her where it counts — and that’s in her bank account. Remember that Kylie is a mother herself … which means that she’s earning for two . View Slideshow: Kylie Jenner Gives Birth, Reveals Shocking Pregnancy Secrets & Photos
