NY Woman Detained In Psych Ward After Insisting She Is Employed, Followed By Obama On Twitter A woman’s insistence that President Obama follows her on Twitter landed her in a Harlem psychiatric ward for a hellish week of forced injections, sedatives, and therapy sessions meant to convince her to verbally deny that she was gainfully employed at a Queens bank. Kam Brock of Long Island faced a frightening eight-day ordeal, beginning when she was pulled over while driving through Harlem in a BMW — an activity which NYPD officers seem to have found suspicious. Via NYDN : The bizarre experience began Sept. 12, when the NYPD seized her prized 2003 BMW 325Ci in Harlem because they suspected she was high on weed, her attorney, Michael Lamonsoff, said. Cops found no marijuana but confiscated her ride anyway, he said. The NYPD declined to comment. The following day, Brock walked into the NYPD’s Public Service Area 6 stationhouse in Harlem to retrieve her car, her suit charges. “Next thing you know, the police held onto me, the doctor stuck me with a needle and I was knocked out,” Brock said, tearing up. “I woke up to them taking off my underwear and then went out again. I woke up the next day in a hospital robe.” Lamonsoff said race may have been a factor in the way Brock was treated. “How would you act if you were being told you were crazy?” he said. However, that is exactly what officials insisted. They insisted that not only was she delusional about President Obama following her on Twitter, but they doubted that she held down a job of any sort. Among the hospital’s goals of “rehabilitating” Brock, official documents in her file read: “Objective: Patient will verbalize the importance of education for employment and will state that Obama is not following her on Twitter.” “Patient’s weaknesses: inability to test reality, unemployment.” For eight days, she attended group therapy, endured injections of sedatives, and took lorazepam and lithium, medical records show, according to Lamonsoff. When she was finally let go, the doctors didn’t tell her why she was being allowed to leave, Brock said. Brock is now suing the hospital to clear the $13,637.10 bill she received upon her release, and also requesting an unspecified amount of additional damages. Anna Duggar isn’t exactly known for her enlightened views on topics like gay marriage, but her latest salvo in the war on equality is controversial even by the lofty standards of the family she married into. Last month, Anna used Black History Month to promote her pro-life agenda in a bizarre tweet that was as baffling as it was offensive. Now, Anna has returned to her usual M.O. of letting others do the talking for her by re-tweeting an article with the incendiary title, “Dear Gay Parents: Your Children Are Hurting.” Anna’s husband Josh Duggar works for the Family Research Counsel , a conservative organization that seems to have brought the article to Anna’s attention. In fairness, the piece is actually not as close-minded as its title would suggest. The author is a woman who was raised by a lesbian couple and states repeatedly that she “loves” the gay community. Then she goes on to say that two people of the same sex cannot raise a child as effectively as a mother and a father…and that’s likely the part that appealed to Anna. Anna has very strong views regarding the conditions under which children should be conceived and raised, as evidenced by the fact she blackballed her sister Susanna Keller for having a child out of wedlock. Currently, Anna is pregnant with her fourth child , so it’s good that she spends a lot of time thinking about parenting practices and the welfare of children. We just wish that – with this being 2015 and there being 7 billion people on the planet, and all – she’d open up herself up to the possibility that not all children who aren’t raised by one dad and one mom end up scarred for life. It wouldn’t even be that hard to do some research on the topic, Anna.
