Tyler, The Creator To Shoot ‘Analog 2′ and ’50’ Videos Next

Odd Future head reveals on ‘RapFix Live’ that MellowHype’s ’50’ is on the production schedule. By Rob Markman Tyler, The Creator Photo: MTV News There is no video director in the game quite like Tyler, the Creator . As Wolf Haley, the Odd Future head has already put out a number of memorable vids, including his critically acclaimed “Yonkers,” which helped him win a VMA in 2011. Most recently, Wolf directed and dropped two videos off OFWGKTA’s new album, The OF Tape, Vol. 2 — “Rella” and “NY (Ned Flander)” — and he’s now debating which track he should shoot next. “I kinda wanna do ‘Analog 2′ for sure, but the MellowHype ’50’ song, I have an idea for that that would be awesome,” Tyler said when he and the rest of the OF crew appeared on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live.” “That song, just g–damn, that song’s crazy.” “Analog 2” is a Frank Ocean- and Syd the Kid-assisted sequel to the original track which appeared on Tyler’s Goblin album last year — well, kind of. “I didn’t go in to make a sequel for a song, I just went in to make a song and I didn’t have a name for it and just called it that,” Tyler said. “That wasn’t intentional to be part two, I just called it that because I couldn’t come up with another name and I was lazy.” There are some distinct similarities between the two songs, however. On “Analog 2,” Frank Ocean lovingly sings, “Could you can meet by the lake,” echoing the words that Tyler utters on the hook of the original “Analog.” “It wasn’t that I was gonna make I part two to this, nah, it was just not being creative,” Tyler insisted. Wolf wouldn’t give up any details on his video treatments, though, saying he had to protect his ideas. “See, I can’t tell you. I don’t tell my business like that son,” he said. “I might say some sh–, then some n—a might steal that idea, put that sh– out and then I’m f—ed.” What should be the next video from Odd Future’s The OF Tape, Vol. 2 ? Tyler, The Creator’s Wolf Album Might Be A Few Years

After Bastard and Goblin, Odd Future MC tells ‘RapFix Live’ that he doesn’t have a release date for Wolf. By Rob Markman Tyler, the Creator Photo: MTV News Tyler, the Creator made strides when he released his sophomore album, Goblin, last year. Anchored by the singles “Sandwitches” and “Yonkers,” which helped earn the de facto Odd Future leader a VMA, Tyler’s Goblin only raised the expectations for his next solo album, Wolf. If the title track from Tyler’s 2009 debut, Bastard, is any indication, then Wolf will stand as the third album in the MC/producer’s thematic trilogy — maybe. “Dude, I don’t know,” Tyler said on “RapFix Live” when asked about a release date for the LP. Bastard ‘s title track begins with a skit in which fictional therapist Dr. TC tells Tyler he is committed to three sessions. Dr. TC then appears again at the top of Goblin and throughout the album. Tyler says that he didn’t plan for it to be a trilogy; that’s just the way things worked out. “It might not even be a trilogy,” he said.” I might do the third trilogy years from now.” The entire Odd Future collective released The OF Tape, Vol. 2, and after that, they will surely continue to release individual and smaller group projects. Left Brain and Hodgy Beats as MellowHype contribute the rambunctious “50” to Vol. 2, but don’t be surprised if the track ends up on their upcoming Numbers album. “We got some MellowHype jump-offs on the new album that might still go on the new MellowHype album,” Left Brain confirmed. Can you wait a few years for Tyler, the Creator’s Wolf LP? Tell us in the comments! Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ Has An Odd Future Related Artists Tyler, The Creator

‘American Idol’ Top 10 In A Billy Joel State Of Mind

Jessica Sanchez and Elise Testone both earn standing ovations for their renditions of Piano Man classics. By Adam Graham Erika Van Pelt on “American Idol” Photo: Fox Wednesday (March 21) was Billy Joel night on “American Idol,” and as the top 10 contestants took on the Piano Man’s catalog, some big moves were made in the “Idol” ranks. Jessica Sanchez took a step toward reclaiming her frontrunner status, Elise Testone sang for her life after two consecutive weeks in the bottom three and Erika Van Pelt debuted a stunning new look, but only Heejun Han used the evening as an opportunity to directly address his critics. Singing Joel’s “My Life,” Han — who was knocked by the judges last week for his lackluster performance of Richard Marx’s “Right Here Waiting” — approached the judges’ table and sang to Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. “Keep it to yourself, it’s my life,” Han sang playfully. “Go ahead with your own life, leave me alone.” Han began the song wearing a tux, but tore it off to reveal a T-shirt/ button-up combo. Han jumped into the audience at one point, and was so carefree with regard to hitting his proper notes that the whole thing bordered on parody. The judges didn’t quite know what to think or say about it; they praised him for having fun, but only to a point. “The music business will kick your ass,” Tyler told him. “At some point, you’ve gotta try to take it more serious.” Guest mentor Diddy didn’t seem to know what to make of Han either. “I don’t know if he’s an actor or a con man,” Diddy said. “I don’t even know if he’s Asian. He may be black.” (Han later told Ryan Seacrest Diddy is “confusing himself already.”) To round things out, Han also had an awkward confrontation with “Idol” style guru Tommy Hilfiger, telling him his style icons include Jessica Sanchez, Madonna and Michael Bolton. Han has clearly been studying “How to Win Friends and Influence People” during those late “Idol” nights. Back to Sanchez, Han’s style role model: She received a standing ovation from the judges, one of only two during the night, for her version of “Everybody Has a Dream.” “When God was giving out vocal chords, you were so at the front of the line,” Tyler told her. Lopez called it a “defining moment” for Sanchez, while Jackson called it “flawless” and “perfection.” The other standing O was given to perennial bottom-dweller Testone, who gave the evening’s most riveting performance, tearing through Joel’s “Vienna” with a vigor that proved she wants to stay in the competition. Jackson even bowed to her in a “Wayne’s World”-type “I’m not worthy!” gesture as the song came to a close. “Unbelievable,” he called it, saying she had a moment on stage, while Tyler called her melody “fantastic.” “You were all over the place and you still stayed in the room,” he said, one of those Tyler-isms that only he truly understands. Meanwhile, Van Pelt debuted a dramatic makeover that saw her long, blonde-and-pink hair chopped in favor of a short, angular, jet black ‘do inspired by Pink. The Rhode Islander sang “New York State of Mind” like a true New Yorker, but was told she should be more physical with her next performance. In the middle of the pack, Joshua Ledet — who brought the house down last week with his version of “When a Man Loves a Woman” — struggled a bit to connect with “She’s Got a Way,” a song he was admittedly unfamiliar with until it fell into his lap. Skylar Laine’s “Shameless” was inspired by the Garth Brooks version of the song — no matter the theme, Laine will find a way to give it a country once-over — which was “pretty good” and “good,” according to Jackson and Tyler, respectively. Phillip Phillips took “Movin’ Out” and “Phillip Phillips’d” it, according to Tyler, which is kind of what Phillip Phillips does to every song. (Jackson was overly enthusiastic about it, calling it “one of the best renditions of that song ever,” and Lopez called it “perfect.”) Hollie Cavanagh went for another big ballad with “Honesty,” which Tyler called the dreaded “P” word, “pitchy.” Jackson said she over-thought the song. “You’re better than that, come on now,” he told her. And Deandre Brackensick opened the show with a bouncy version of “Only the Good Die Young” that felt forced and unnatural. “I wasn’t jumping up and down because it didn’t show me anything special,” Jackson told him. Colton Dixon closed the show with Joel’s classic “Piano Man,” giving the song more of an emo feel; he “Colton Dixon’d” it, if you will. Jackson called it a “sensitive, touching, moving performance,” while J. Lo gave her highest compliment, saying the song gave her “goosies from head to toe.” One of the 10 singers faces elimination during Thursday’s “Idol,” which is set to feature a performance from Season 10 finalist Haley Reinhart. Rutgers Student Dharun Ravi Found Guilty In CyberBullying Case

Ravi could get up to 10 years in jail for spying on his roommate, Tyler Clementi. By Gil Kaufman Tyler Clementi Photo: Facebook A jury found former Rutgers University student Dharun Ravi guilty of hate crimes and invasion of privacy on Friday (March 16), bringing to an end a case that helped spark a national debate on cyberbullying. Ravi was accused of setting up a webcam to spy on his roommate, Tyler Clementi , as Clementi engaged in a consensual sexual encounter with another man in the pair’s Rutgers dorm room. Clementi leaped to his death from the George Washington Bridge in New York three days after learning that Ravi viewed the encounter and, according to testimony, invited others to watch and discuss what he saw online. According to The New York Times, in addition to the hate crimes, the jury found Ravi guilty of tampering with evidence and witnesses because of his efforts to change Twitter and text messages in which he had encouraged others to watch the webcam footage. Ravi, 20, faced 15 counts of invasion of privacy, bias intimidation, tampering with evidence and a witness and hindering apprehension. The jury concluded that Ravi had not intended to intimidate Clementi on the first night that he secretly switched on the webcam to watch his roommate’s actions. But they concluded that Clementi had reason to believe that he was targeted because he was gay (based on the language in some of the texts), and on one count, the jury found that Ravi knew Clementi, 18, would feel intimidated by his actions. Because he was found guilty on at least one question of whether his actions rose to the level of bias discrimination, Ravi could face the maximum penalty of up to 10 years in jail and deportation to his native India. “These acts were purposeful, they were intentional and they were planned,” prosecutor Julia L. McClure told the jury on the first day of the trial, which lasted three weeks and concluded with two days of deliberation by the jury. Later in the trial, she told the jury that Ravi “was bothered by Tyler Clementi’s sexual orientation.” In a rare instance, almost none of the facts in the case were in dispute, as Ravi’s lawyers agreed that their client had set up the webcam and then gone to a friend’s room and viewed Clementi kissing the unidentified man. They also did not deny that Ravi sent Twitter and text messages to others describing what he’d seen and urging them to watch a second viewing. Ravi’s attorneys painted their client as an immature college student who acted thoughtlessly and made a mistake, but denied that he’d been spurred by homophobia. “He hasn’t lived long enough to have any experience with homosexuality or gays,” attorney Steven Altman said during closing arguments. “He doesn’t know anything about it. He just graduated high school.” Clementi’s suicide set off a national debate about bullying and intimidation of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth the resulted in public messages of support from everyone from openly gay talk show host Ellen DeGeneres to singer Ciara, “America’s Next Top Model” personality Jay Manuel, President Obama, “One Tree Hill” actress Sophia Bush and “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe . ‘American Idol’ Auditions Jim Carrey’s Daughter, New ‘Bikini Girl’

San Diego auditions aired late-night Sunday after the NFC Championship game. By Adam Graham Jane Carrey on “American Idol” Photo: FOX It was a late night for “American Idol” on Sunday, as the show’s San Diego auditions didn’t air until after the New York Giants’ overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game. That meant “Idol” didn’t start until nearly 11 p.m., and didn’t wrap until just before midnight. The show — which, in an “Idol” first, took place on an aircraft carrier, the USS Midway — introduced viewers to seven of the 53 singers who earned Golden Tickets to Hollywood Week. It also showcased a singer, Jennifer Diley, who gave season eight’s Katrina “Bikini Girl” Darrell a run for her money in the skimpy-wardrobe department. Sunday’s show also featured a pair of shout-outs to Fox’s yesteryear hit “In Living Color.” In the opening moments, Jennifer Lopez was referred to as a “Fly Girl,” her role on the former sketch comedy series. Later, viewers were introduced to Jane Carrey, daughter of actor and onetime “In Living Color” star Jim Carrey, whom Lopez said she remembered as a baby on the set of the show. Carrey, now a 24-year-old waitress in Los Angeles, sang Bonnie Raitt’s “Something to Talk About,” and though she appeared slightly timid, she did earn a pass to Hollywood from the judges. “Good melody, you’ve got to work on the volume,” Steven Tyler told her after delivering the good news. A phone call to her proud papa followed, and Ace Ventura himself gushed with pride and told her, “Oh my God, is this going to be an exciting year.” Carrey’s connections helped her stand out, as did those of Ali Shields. The 19-year-old from Lodi, California, appeared as a guest on “Ellen” after she wrote a song for the talk-show queen (and former “Idol” judge). That appearance gave her the confidence to try out for “Idol,” she said, and for her first song in front of the judges, she awkwardly sang/rapped Chris Brown’s “Look at Me Now,” accompanied by a cringe-worthy booty-shaking bit of “ghetto dancing” (Randy Jackson’s words). She followed with an earnest version of Corinne Bailey Rae’s “Like a Star” that better showed off her vocal ability, and it earned her one of those pretty little Golden Tickets to Hollywood. Also passing through to Tinseltown was Ashley Robles, a 26-year-old single mother from San Diego, who works as a DJ and at an insurance agency when she’s not singing. Robles took a big risk by attempting one of the biggest ballads ever, “I Will Always Love You,” but she held her own and managed to scale the song’s landmark high notes with precision and grace. Jackson called her a “natural,” while Tyler predicted, “You’re gonna be big.” Tyler also had high praise for Aubree Dieckmeyer, a 20-year-old receptionist from San Clemente, California. Dieckmeyer sang a solid version of “Feeling Good,” a standard that she credited to Michael Bubl
