The Cast Of “Addicted” Attends NYC Movie Premiere The film adaption of popular Zane novel “Addicted” is set to hit theaters this Friday and the cast came together in NYC earlier this week for a private pre-screening to celebrate the release. Among those in attendance was leading lady Sharon Leal… ….as well as her co-stars Boris Kodjoe and Tasha Smith, who both walked the red carpet with their spouses …and fellow co-star Tyson Beckford, flicked it up for the cameras solo. Boris Kodjoe, Tyson Beckford And Cast Of Addicted Host Screening In NYC Last Friday, BOSSIP was in the building as the cast and crew of the highly-anticipated film adaptation of author Zane’s raunchy novel “Addicted” took center stage at the 2014 Urbanworld Film Festival in NYC to answer questions about the movie while giving the crowd a sneak peek at a few scenes. The panel, moderated by media personality Bevy Smith, included “ Addicted” cast members Boris Kodjoe, Tyson Beckford and William Levy, along with author Zane and the film’s director Billie Woodruff. The movie itself follows a sexually frustrated wife (played by actress Sharon Leal) who gets intertwined into a world of lust, sex and drama facilitated through Tyson and William’s characters with whom she begins intimate relationships while still married to her husband, played by Boris Kodjoe. In between short clips of scenes from the film, the entire panel addressed questions from both Bevy and the audience, with topic areas ranging from what it was like to film the sex scenes , to what the cast members themselves are “addicted” to and more. Isht is always REAL for Suge … Suge Knight Shot Suge Knight is recovering after being shot TWICE at a VMAs pre-party. The gig which was apparently hosted by Chris Brown, erupted in violence around 1:30 a.m. and Suge was hit in the stomach and arm. TMZ reports: Shots rang out at 1OAK nightclub in West Hollywood at around 1:30 AM Sunday … and Suge Knight was shot twice and taken to the hospital by ambulance where he’s currently in surgery … eyewitnesses and Suge’s family tell TMZ. A source close to Suge tells us … he was shot in the stomach and arm. Tyson Beckford, Robert Ri’chard and Apple de Ap all tell TMZ … they were inside the pre-VMA party hosted by Chris Brown when they heard 4 shots ring out inside the club. Suge walked out on his own power … a cop spotted him and walked the rap mogul to the police car where Suge sat. Suge was then put in an ambulance and taken to a local hospital. We do not know the nature of Suge’s injuries. Multiple sources now tell us Suge was one of 3 people were were shot. At least 1 is in critical condition. Sheriff’s deputies had guns drawn as clubgoers exited with their hands in the air right after the shooting. The night started with tension. An hour-and-a-half before the shots, Game came to the club and he and his buddies got into an altercation with security guards … there was a full-on fight. Game tried to get in was denied and left, but his buddies stayed behind. We do not know if they were involved in the altercation. SMH @ this all going down at a VMAs pre-party. Wonder what MTV execs are thinking…
What’s in a name ? White-Sounding Name Is Worth About 8 Years Of Work Experience Via The Atlantic reports: Companies with names that are simple and easy to pronounce see significantly higher investments than more complexly named stocks, especially just after their initial public offerings when information on the stock’s fundamentals are most scarce. People with easier to pronounce names are also judged more positively and tend to be hired and promoted more often than their more obscurely named peers. There are more variables at play than just pronunciation, though. In competitive fields that have classically been dominated by men, such as law and engineering, women with sexually ambiguous names tend to be more successful. This effect is known as the Portia Hypothesis (named for the heroine of Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice who disguises herself as a lawyer’s apprentice and takes on the name Balthazar to save the titular merchant, Antonio). A study found that female lawyers with more masculine names—such as Barney, Dale, Leslie, Jan, and Rudell—tend to have better chances of winning judgeships than their more effeminately named female peers. All else being equal, changing a candidate’s name from Sue to Cameron tripled a candidate’s likelihood of becoming a judge; a change from Sue to Bruce quintupled it. Names work hard: They can affect who gets into elite schools, what jobs we apply for, and who gets hired. Our names can even influence what cities we live in, who we befriend, and what products we buy since, we’re attracted to things and places that share similarities to our names. A name is, after all, perhaps the most important identifier of a person. Most decisions are made in about three to four seconds of meeting someone, and this “thin-slicing” is surprisingly accurate. Something as packed full of clues as a name tends to lead to all sorts of assumptions and expectations about a person, often before any face-to-face interaction has taken place. A first name can imply race, age, socioeconomic status, and sometimes religion, so it’s an easy—or lazy—way to judge someone’s background, character, and intelligence. A 2004 study showed that all else being equal, employers selected candidates with names like Emily Walsh and Greg Baker for callbacks almost 50 percent more often than candidates with names like Lakisha Washington and Jamal Jones. Work experience was controlled and the candidates never met face-to-face with the employer so all that was being tested was the effect of the candidate’s name. The researchers concluded that there was a great advantage to having a white-sounding name, so much so that having a white-sounding name is worth about eight years of work experience. “Jamal” would have to work in an industry for eight years longer than “Greg” for them to have equal chances of being hired, even if Jamal came from a privileged background and Greg from an underprivileged one. (Perhaps that’s why mega-celebrities can get away with giving their children peculiar names. A résumé with the name North West probably wouldn’t do as well as James Williamson—unless Papa Kanye called up the boss.) A new film about the Black male stripper scene is set to hit theaters with Michael Jai White and Tyson Beckford serving as the primary eye candy. Via Deadline : Channing Tatum did it with Magic Mike, and his co-star Joe Manganiello sold upcoming docu La Bare on the strength of the tantalizing subject matter. Now indie helmer Jean-Claude LaMarre (Gang Of Roses, Color Of The Cross) is hoping to tap into the world of male strippers with his urban take, Chocolate City, which aims to merge the Magic Mike phenomenon with the recent strength of African-American-themed films at the box office. Black Dynamite star Michael Jai White and model-turned-actor Tyson Beckford are in negotiations to star in the tale of Devin, a college student struggling to make ends meet who meets the owner of a male strip club (White) who convinces him to give amateur night a whirl. Beckford will play Adrian, the club’s former star attraction who finds his popularity fading as the new kid starts to steal the spotlight. “This movie was in gestation for 2 1/2 years, but after Magic Mike it seemed a natural fit for the African-American female audience,” LaMarr told me. I researched the male exotic club scene and it’s massive across the country, with clubs specifically targeting middle-aged African-American women.” Finally…a race-themed flick specifically for the thirsty ladies!
