Rihanna’s ‘We Found Love’ Video Sets Tone For Talk That Talk

Clip ‘sets up the imagery for the album and [is] in line with what they’re doing,’ director Melina Matsoukas tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Rihanna on the set of her video for “We Found Love” Photo: Photopress Belfast/Splash News Rihanna always seems willing to try something new from album to album when it comes to her image, vision and style. She’s been urban chic, pop-star light and dark and edgy. It seems that her Talk That Talk phase will see the singer looking more natural while also trying her hand at punk couture.

The video for “We Found Love” certainly launches a whole new stage for the chameleonlike performer. In it, Rihanna plays a gutter punk addicted to her beau and to drugs. The clip is a montage of the darkness that results when two people, possessed by one another and their personal demons, come together, eventually having to separate or fall apart. The story also comes to life with a specific aesthetic and color scheme: lots of high-end punk and rockabilly looks done up in denim and Americana hues. The clip serves as the lead image for the November 21 album, and its director, Melina Matsoukas , says that she’s excited she got to help set the tone for the highly-anticipated release and hopes that the two will work a bit more on it. “I mean, we’ll see. There’s definitely some more music coming out and I’m sure we’ll do some more collaborating. I definitely would love to,” she told MTV News. “I’m excited that I got to do the first one off her new album, the first single. I’ve never done that, so that was good.”

Matsoukas tells us that from her understanding, the vibe of the video fits in with the Talk That Talk packaging. “I think it sets up definitely the imagery for the album and it’s in line with what they’re doing,” she said. “So that’s good, and I’m sure there’s plenty more, hopefully. I’m not sure, but [we’ll see]. She called me after, and she loves it and I love it.”

Brand Nubian’s Lord Jamar Goes From Hip Hop To Hollywood & Back

Read more here:

American actor and MC Lord Jamar releases “Known Associates” this fall on Universalindie.com and all major digital outlets. The album is a compilation of tracks featuring such artists as Capadonna, Hasan Salaam, Lord Superb, Saigon and Xzibit, to name a few. The forthcoming album hearkens to Lord Jamar’s long-standing subscription to the The Nation of Gods and Earths [Five-Percent Nation] – a soundtrack to the Hardbody-Godbody way of life: “It’s good hip hop, but has these elements on it because it’s who I am.” A member of legendary, classic hip-hop group “Brand Nubian” Jamar reflects on the evolution of the industry over the past 20 years: “Everything changes… I don’t think I’m changing according to other people, but I am changing according to my own evolution. Even with Punks Jump Up to Get Beat Down, statistically, people weren’t expecting me and Sadat to succeed.” Jamar has an appreciation for other genres. Influenced by classical, Spanish and old soul music, the beats dictate his music production. “Knowledge, Wisdom and Understanding impacts me and grows within me, daily. Although I’m changing, I’m staying consistent with my core message.” Widely known for his role on HBO’s “OZ” as “Supreme Allah,” as well as “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “Third Watch,” “The Sopranos,” and most recently in Dennis Leary’s television show “Rescue Me,” Jamar is looking to expand beyond music and do more acting and production. Lord Jamar says, “Whenever you’re pursuing your dreams you’re doing a courageous thing… It may have sounded absurd to some people [being an emcee] because I wasn’t from any of the 5 boros; I was from Westchester… I pursued it despite the naysayers. Same thing with acting; I didn’t have acting under my belt, but I wanted to do it. Courage comes in different ways, like whenever you’re pursuing something you love, but you’re not sure about.” By Hana Glinski http://hnaprnews.wordpress.com/2011/09/01/known-associates/ Al Pacino Thanks Hip-Hop For “Scarface” Support

Kush Chronicles: Former Employee Claims Della Reese Is A Weed-Smoking Minister Who Shadily Mismanages Funds

SMH at these folks trying to throw Della Reese under the bus for burning a lil something!! “Touched by an Angel” star DELLA REESE is a pot-smoking preacher who covered up for employees after they swindled her church out of a small fortune. That’s the shocking accusation of the TV legend’s former executive assistant Billie Hall, who claims Della and her husband Franklin Lett basically “looked the other way” while employees mismanaged funds at their Understanding Principles for Better Living Church. Even worse, Hall accused the 79- year-old actress – who’s an ordained minister – of using marijuana and asking a church employee to score dope! “I worked for Della and her husband for nine years, and I’ve seen her smoke pot on a daily basis. She was stoned when she went to the ‘Touched by an Angel’ set,” Hall told The ENQUIRER. While Della says she’s not “addicted” to pot, she admitted to The ENQUIRER: “I smoke a joint or two every now and then to relax.” A few years after the drug fiasco,Della discovered $1.5 million was missing from the church coffers. She and her husband said they traced the loss to former employees who had been cashing church checks and using church credit cards. The ENQUIRER also obtained court documents concerning allegations of misappropriation of funds, and they show that another former employee was asked to put money from the church into what the employee believed were personal accounts. Della said she informed her congregation about the missing money, but chose not to prosecute the employees. “I’m not that type of person, and I decided not to drag the church through all that,” she explained. No comment. Source

New ‘Super 8’ Trailer’s Five Key Moments

We take a look at the most fascinating scenes featured in the new promo clip for the upcoming J.J. Abrams-directed adventure film. By Eric Ditzian Photo: Paramount Pictures “What the hell?” says a boy at the very end of the first full-length trailer for “Super 8,” neatly summarizing our own thoughts about the footage from the mysterious action-adventure film: Um, what exactly did we just see? Well, what we saw, first off, was an incredibly effective promo clip courtesy of director J.J. Abrams and executive producer Steven Spielberg. It managed to maintain the spirit of a teaser trailer — withholding far more information than is ever unleashed — while expanding our understanding of, and getting us seriously more excited about, what we’ll see in the flick when it hits theaters on June 10. Here are our picks for the new trailer’s five key moments: What Kind of Military Trucks Are Those? In we’d already seen the fiery train crash that unleashes some sort of very angry, possible very alien creature. So what we’re focused on here is what’s new, like those military trucks rolling through town with red cargo bins. What kind of military vehicles haul cargo like that? We see them pull right up to the train’s wreckage, so we’re guessing whatever is in them is important. As an Air Force leader, played by Noah Emmerich, says to Kyle Chandler’s local policeman, “I understand you have concerns about our cargo,” before telling him there’s nothing to worry about. Right … 9/11 … for Dogs? Though the film is set in 1979, there’s no mistaking the allusion to September 11, 2001, in this shot of missing-dog posters. Apparently, all the dogs hightailed it out of town after the train crash. Why is it that animals always seem to grasp potential sci-fi terror before humans? And what ever happened to man’s best friend, after all? That Looks Like It Hurts So dogs and people start to go missing. Things, no doubt, start to go from bad to worse. Just look at this bloody-faced guy who has a gun in his hand, a terrified look in his eyes, and one word of instruction: “Go!” This raises a question about “Super 8” that we’ve had for a while. Early reports seemed to suggest that this movie would be more of an alien-invasion film in the vein of “Cloverfield.” But most of the footage we’ve seen thus far gives an impression of something more akin to “E.T.” So which is it? Or is it both? In the new trailer, we definitely get a sense of a Spielberg-like focus on family-oriented fare, yet things clearly get very intense and very dangerous at some point. Boom! Boom! Throughout the trailer, we’ve seen how this alien presence can somehow manipulate electricity and exert a telekinetic power on objects. Here we see a prime example of that ability, as the local electronics store goes boom. At others points, power lines explode, a bus tips over, and, well, it’s all leading to… Look, Up in the Sky The most eye-popping scene in the entire trailer comes at nearly the very end. Main Street is trashed, the citizenry is freaked out and the military is nowhere to be seen as vehicles rise up into the air. The kids (portrayed by Joel Courtney and Elle Fanning) — both looking very much like characters from “E.T.,” he Elliot, she Gertie — take in the craziness. Like in “E.T.,” it seems that only the children fully understand the implications of what’s actually going on. For example: No one believes a man in the hospital, for instance, who claims to have seen the creature … except the boy. As he tells the man, “I believe you.” What are your favorite moments in the new “Super 8” teaser? Tell us in the comments. Young Black USA Soccer Players “Agudelo & Bunbury” Come On And Save The Day Scoring Tying Goal… Then Bust Out The Dougie! [Video]

This kid Bunbury is no-joke and the new breed of soccer player in the U.S.A. Burnley (20) and his boy Agudelo (18) saved the day for the U.S. Saturday: On the play of Agudelo and Bunbury: There is no more inexact science than predicting the future performance of forwards, as anyone who hyped, say, Eddie Johnson can attest. That said, you can’t help but be cautiously optimistic about what the U.S. put on show after Sporting Kansas City striker Teal Bunbury, 20, and New York Red Bulls frontman Juan Agudelo, 18, came on for the mispositioned Chris Wondolowski and hapless Brek Shea. A game that had been slowly gliding into Chile’s favor, and not just on the scoreboard, turned. The two dropped off, darted, juked and combined their young hearts out, involving teammates who had been isolated and generating a dynamism the side hadn’t seen since, well, the last time the two had appeared for the U.S. together against South Africa in November. In the 75th minute, Agudelo wormed his way into the box and earned a penalty, which Bunbury converted and celebrated with a silly little dance. (*ALL SOCCER PLAYERS IN EUROPE CELEBRATE… THIS WRITER IS A DOUCHE AND PROBLEM IN AMERICAN SOCCER) Later, Agudelo’s sharp shot on goal could have been his second game winner in two games. But while the aforementioned feats were encouraging, it was Agudelo’s and Bunbury’s off-the-ball play and synergy with their teammates that could give rise to a bright future for the U.S. And this is rather good news, given that highly rated wingers Shea, 20, and Alejandro Bedoya, 23, still haven’t done anything to prove they belong. Shea covers a lot of ground and tracks back well, but his understanding of the game is so poor that he appears to lack even the faintest idea of how to use his considerable physical gifts. Bedoya, too, has enough skill for the job — although his left leg might as well be a wooden peg — but in seven caps, he has yet to turn in more than a nice run here and there. He’s either been incompatible for coach Bob Bradley’s system or lacked the temerity to demand the ball. But we shouldn’t let our stomachs churn over these players. They’re young; there’s time. The performances of Agudelo and Bunbury alone are sufficient to conclude that the next generation is at least on the right track.

Yung Joc And Gucci Mane’s ‘Going Ham’ Leaks

‘That’s not even a mixed version … but y’all got it now,’ Joc concedes. By Steven Roberts Yung Joc Photo: Ben Rose/ WireImage Jay-Z and Kanye West dropped their first single, “H.A.M.,” on Tuesday, but their record may have overshadowed another “ham” song: Yung Joc and Gucci Mane’s “Going Ham” leaked over the weekend. The tracks aren’t related, nor do they have anything to do with a choice cut of pig: The Jay and ‘Ye song name is actually an acronym that stands for “Hard As a Mother—-er,” while Joc and Gucci’s version is based on the Atlanta term “going ham,” which is a derivative of mayhem. Joc admits most people may not even know the term’s origin. “I think people don’t realize it,” he explained. “You take a word and cut it down; we’ve got nicknames for everything. The average person, they don’t know what it means; they just hear the saying. They understand the understanding of the word: Everybody is going crazy, having a good time, ‘going ham.’ ” Joc, who wasn’t at all bothered by the song titles’ similarities, said he and Gucci had been kicking it a lot recently, even though they didn’t have a chance to go to the studio to record. He sent Gucci a record, which eventually became Joc’s second single, “What She Like,” but he didn’t think Gucci’s verse fit the song. “I ended up calling Yo Gotti, and Yo Gotti got on the record,” Joc said. “[He] followed the idea of where we were going with the record.” But a song just right for a Gucci collaboration did come along. “I went in with Ike Dirty, Isaac Hayes’ son, and when he first played the beat I said, ‘Man, I swear this sounds like something that could be for Gucci,’ ” Joc remembered. “And I was just sitting there listening: ‘Man, that’s crazy. I already got a record with him, but I could use his verse for this.’ In the studio, we played around with it for a little bit. It synced up, and I was like, ‘Hell yeah, let’s go with it.’ ” Joc said he didn’t know who leaked “Going Ham” or how they did it. “That’s not even a mixed version or a complete version because we got a lot more drop and a lot more sound effects with the record, but y’all got it now,” he said. “Y’all calling me about it.” Have you heard “Going Ham”?
