Country princess and onetime “American Idol” champ Carrie Underwood’s wedding to Ottawa Senators center Mike Fisher graces the cover of People magazine this week and appears to have been every bit the fairy tale the bride envisioned for her big day. Married Saturday on the lawn of Georgia’s lavish Ritz-Carlton Reynolds Plantation Resort, the happy couple exchanged traditional vows in front of 250 guests. Underwood told People the one thing she worried about above all else was keeping it together throughout the ceremony. “My sister told me if I feel like tearing up to say the Pledge of Allegiance,” she said. “I must have said it 20 times that night!” The proud groom, who met Underwood through mutual friends at one of her concerts in 2008, said his bride looked simply “stunning” (dressed in a specially designed Monique Lhuillier gown). “I was thanking God for her, for that moment,” Fisher, 30, gushed. “It’s something I’ll never forget.” When the couple finally sealed their vows with a kiss, the only objector among the 250 guests was Underwood’s plucky rat terrier, Ace, who responded to the otherwise-enthusiastic applause by barking. “We were laughing, everyone was laughing, and Ace was barking,” Fisher said. For the reception, which was decorated with an overwhelmingly feminine, pink-hued touch, guests received their seating assignments via painted hockey pucks with their names written on an attached card. And Underwood changed out of her “huge” wedding dress in favor of a strapless cocktail dress — which Monique Lhuillier also designed. “I wanted to get my boogie on, so I had to change,” the 27-year-old told People. “The night exceeded all the hopes I had,” Underwood said. “It was a great party.” Share your well-wishes for the newlyweds in the comments below! It had been rumored that the pair would make it official this weekend and they did as expected. They said their vows under a tent in front of 250 family and friends, People.com reports. The service included bible readings and classical music. Underwood wore a Chantilly lace gown by Monique Lhuillier. Her bridesmaids also wore dresses by the designer. E! Online reports that other country superstars including Tim McGraw and Faith Hill were in attendance. “We could not feel more blessed to have found each other and to have shared this day with our friends and family that mean so much to us!” the newlyweds said in a joint statement to People that they signed as “Mike & Carrie Fisher.” The wedding planner described the whole affair as “a spiritual expression of their love.” It reportedly cost upwards of $500,000, and security was so tight that guests weren’t even told where they were going until they boarded planes to the resort, which was booked exclusively for the event. The couple plans to live in Nashville and Peterborough, Ontario. As for the honeymoon, when Underwood spoke to UsMagazine.com about it last month, she said that it was all up to Fisher to plan. “That was Mike’s project,” she said. “It’s a surprise. I have no clue where we are going, which is nice. I know it will be warm, that’s about it.” The pair got engaged in December 2009. They met in October 2008 at one of Underwood’s concerts in Toronto. Before taking home several Buckle trophies at last month’s CMT Awards , she told Us, “No matter what happens, I go home a winner. I have the biggest prize, the guy sitting next to me. On Tuesday (May 11), Taylor Swift , Carrie Underwood and this year’s crossover act Lady Antebellum lead the nominees with three nominations each, as voted on by the fans after the initial set of nominations were announced in April. Swift and Underwood will face off in the Video of the Year and Female Video of the Year categories. Lady Antebellum are also nominated for Video of the Year. Swift rounds out her noms with a nod for Collaborative Video of the Year, while Underwood is up for CMT Performance of the Year from the 2009 CMT Music Awards. A full list of nominees can be found on the CMT Music Awards Web site. The final nominees for Video of the Year can be voted for right through the show. Fans can vote on the other categories through June 8. The show will take place at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, which is also the venue for the June 22 Nashville Rising flood-relief benefit. “When you look at the talent and diversity amassed within these categories, it’s easy to see why this has been CMT’s biggest year ever,” CMT President Brian Philips said in a statement. “Hosted by our Nashville-brother-by-way-of-Detroit, Kid Rock, this night promises to be an unforgettable party!” A number of Nashville regulars are set to perform, including Toby Keith, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban, with more acts to be announced.
