Bolitics As Usual: Hatin’ Azz Congressman Dennis Kuchinich Says President Obama’s Action Against Libya Is Cause For Impeachment!

After declaring President Obama’s decision to order airstrikes on Libya a potential “impeachable offense,” Ohio Democratic Congressman Dennis Kucinich is calling for an immediate halt to all funds for any further military action in the conflict. “Now the immediate thing that Congress needs to do when it returns is to cut off any funds for continuing in Libya and I intend to bring forward such an amendment,” Kucinich said in an interview with CNN, noting any legislative action would have to wait until after the current Congressional recess. White House officials insist the President’s actions are well within the law, pointing to a letter sent by Mr. Obama to House Speaker John Boehner Monday. The letter emphasizes the airstrikes are part of an international mission to enforce a “no-fly zone” authorized by a United Nations Security Council Resolution. The letter, the administration argues, satisfies the War Powers Act which requires the President to inform Congress within 48 hours of engaging in any military action. “Our view is a mission of this kind which is time limited, well defined and discreet clearly falls within the president’s constitutional authority,” said Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes at a press briefing Monday. Other Democrats came out to defend the President against the hatin’ a** congressman: One key Democrat in the Senate dismissed any notion of impeachment in a radio interview on Tuesday. Michigan Democratic Senator Carl Levin told the Bill Press Radio Show there is strong bipartisan support for the U.S. mission in Libya, dubbed Operation Odyssey Dawn. “I think we ought to focus on what the issues are here,” Levin said. If it ain’t one thing it’s muthaf*ckin’ other, damn! Several other Presidents have taken military action in the same manner and they weren’t met with this “impeachment” bullsh*t. Folks will do whatever they can to keep our man Barry O out of office in 2012 won’t they? SMH Source

US/UN Military Action In Libya Could Start As Early As Sunday

Now that Moammar Gadhafi has closed off the airspace around Libya and threatened to hit the people with a “final assault,” the U.N. has voted to take “all necessary means” to protect the people of Libya. The U.N. Security Council resolution was approved late Thursday with the backing of the United States, France and Britain, hours after Gadhafi vowed to launch a final assault and crush the nearly 5-week-old rebellion against him. President Barack Obama telephoned the leaders of Britain and France after the vote, the White House said. U.S. officials speaking after a closed-door briefing in Congress said the attempt to ground Gadhafi’s air force could begin by Sunday or Monday with the use of jet fighters, bombers and surveillance aircraft. The British Cabinet held an emergency meeting as British planes were expected to take part in the international military action. NATO envoys in Brussels also were considering next steps. Military experts cautioned that the consequences of such action are unpredictable. The former head of the British army, Richard Dannatt, said it was crucial to proceed cautiously “so we don’t get into the kind of situation that we got into in Iraq by not having a Plan B for the morning after.” But the Western powers faced pressure to act urgently after weeks spent deliberation over what to do about Gadhafi as his regime gained momentum. Gadhafi, calling in to Libyan television on Thursday, said his forces would “rescue” the people of Benghazi, the eastern Mediterranean port city that has become the de-facto rebel capital and staging ground. For those who resist, Gadhafi said, there would be “no mercy or compassion.” “This is your happy day, we will destroy your enemies,” he said, warning the people of Benghazi not to stand alongside the opposition. “Prepare for this moment to get rid of the traitors. Tomorrow we will show the world, to see if the city is one of traitors or heroes.” Gadhafi also pledged to respond harshly to U.N.-sponsored attacks in an interview with Portuguese television broadcast just before the vote. “If the world is crazy,” he said, “we will be crazy, too.” That should end any doubt you might have as to whether or not this dude is a nutjob. Libyan Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Kaim struck a more conciliatory tone, offering to negotiate a cease-fire with the rebels. He welcomed the Security Council’s concern for the people of Libya but called on the world not to allow them to receive weapons. “If any countries do that, they will be inviting Libyans to kill each other,” he said. The civil unrest in Libya started a little over a month ago. And the death toll is somewhere between 150 or over 1,000 people, depending on whether you ask Gadhafi or the rebels. Source

Julian Schnabel Storms UN to Premiere Miral, Smack Critics

Despite protests from opponents accusing the film of bias, the US premiere of director Julian Schnabel’s latest, Miral , unspooled as planned Monday night at United Nations headquarters in New York. And while a redoubtable list of friends and heavy hitters — including Sean Penn, Robert De Niro and Josh Brolin — materialized in support, Schnabel had words for the resistance.

Angelina Jolie’s Bosnian War Film Producer Brushes Off Controversy

Producing partner Graham King also tells MTV News that when he visited the set, first-time director Jolie had ‘total command of that crew.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Angelina Jolie Photo: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images Last week, Angelina Jolie hit back against criticism of her still-untitled Bosnian War drama, which has been the focus of complaints by a women’s group, by simply saying, “There’s one person who has a gripe.” Jolie’s producing partner on the film, Graham King, echoed that sentiment when he told MTV News recently that the criticism has received too much attention. “Yeah, a little bit,” he said, laughing. At issue has been a rumored plot line said to involve a rape victim falling in love with her captor. A rep for Jolie has already said there is no such story line, though the full plot remains shrouded in mystery. “There are many twists in the plot that address the sensitive nature of the relationship between the main characters, and that will be revealed once the film is released,” Jolie said . Nonetheless, the controversy has persisted, with Bakira Hasecic, the president of the Association of Women Victims of War, filing a complaint about the movie with the United Nations refugee agency. When we sat down with King in Paris, where he was promoting “The Tourist” (another project of his in which Jolie stars), the producer was not only quick to dismiss the criticism but also to speak highly of Jolie’s work on her directorial debut. “I went to that set two weeks ago, and she had total command of that crew,” he said. “It was just a real joy to see her behind that monitor, and I think it’s going to be a really good piece of material.” Whether Brad Pitt will play a part remains to be seen. Recent reports have suggested Jolie’s husband will pop up in a cameo. All Jolie would tell us in Paris was “Possibly,” and King was similarly cagey: “We’ll see,” he said. AP Reporters Try to Breathe Life Into Moribund UN Cancun Climate Conference

I do hope that Associated Press reporters Arthur Max and Charles J. Hanley are finding some recreational time while they are reporting from Cancun about what's happening at the ” United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.” The pair's bosses ought to be asking them how much real attention they are paying to the festivities since they began. For example, as far as I can tell from two reports by Mr. Max ( here and here ), he seems to have missed the opening prayer to the pagan goddess Ixchel; Ken Shepherd at NewsBusters took note of it from thousands of miles away.

Reese Witherspoon: Sexually Confident

Reese Witherspoon is quite confident in her sexuality. Similarly, we have no doubts about Reese’s sexuality. “I think as a woman, you get older, you feel more confident in your sexuality,” she tells the January issue of Glamour . “You’re not as intimidated by it.” “Sexuality and femininity is an accumulation of age and wisdom and comfort in your own skin. I feel so much better now than I ever did in my 20s.” Ooh, that one hurts, Ryan Phillippe. Says the Oscar-winning actress, “I am calmer; I know who I am. And as a result, I feel much sexier. There’s always going to be somebody younger or sexier.” “That’s why I like to say, and it’s become my famous line, ‘Funny doesn’t sag.’” Speaking of funny, the woman loves her some romantic comedies. “I watch them all the time. I love all my fellow female romantic comedy queens, like Jennifer Aniston , Jennifer Garner and Katie Heigl,” Reese says. “I also think the questions romantic comedies ask about men and women are universal.” As for her own love life, Witherspoon, who dated Jake Gyllenhaal before he began dating Taylor Swift , is happier than ever these days with boyfriend Jim Toth. The mother of Ava, 11, and Deacon, 7, might even consider having more kids. “I would love to have more kids,” she says. “Kids are the best part of my day. I don’t wake up to make movies. I wake up to hang out with my family.”

Bosnian Protesters Decry "Ignorant" Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie has become the target of more criticism, this time regarding her feature directorial debut, not just her hatred of Thanksgiving . A love story set during the Bosnian War, her film was cut short after rumors that it portrayed a relationship between a rapist and his victim. The project has sparked protests and was called “ignorant” by a group of women who were victims of sexual violence during the 1990s war. In a letter to the United Nations refugee agency, for which the movie star is a goodwill ambassador, the Women Victims of War criticized her sharply. They say they are “deeply concerned about the movie.” “Angelina Jolie’s ignorant attitude towards victims says enough about the scenario and gives us the right to continue having doubts,” the letter read. After rumors of the rapist story line surfaced in October, a group of Bosnian War rape victims pressured officials to withdraw Jolie’s filming permit. The rumors proved to be untrue. The country’s minister of culture read the script – about a Bosnian woman who falls in love with a Serb man – and Jolie’s permit was reinstated. However, Jolie earlier this month cut the shooting schedule from 10 days to three and decided to film some of the scenes in Hungary instead. At the time, Jolie said she wanted to meet with the groups that complained to clear up any misunderstanding, but no meeting ever transpired. “We have insisted to meet Angelina Jolie since we don’t want to be wrongly presented in the world … Our voices are worthwhile and we should have got much more respect,” the WVW letter read. “Angelina has made a big mistake.” “We feel that she did not act like a real UNHCR ambassador and we believe that she has no more credibility to remain the ambassador.” Wait until that big Angelina Jolie drug video leaks!

NBC’s Lauer: WikiLeaks is Merely a ‘Messenger’ For Classified Material

On Monday's Today show, NBC's Matt Lauer downplayed the criminal factor in the release of hundreds of thousands of classified diplomatic communiques by WikiLeaks, twice labeling the website as only a ” messenger ” for the documents. Both Lauer and NBC correspondent Andrea Mitchell insisted the State Department “crossed a line” by ordering diplomats to spy on foreign diplomats at the United Nations. The NBC anchor interviewed Republican Congressman Peter King seven minutes into the 7 am Eastern hour on this latest release of confidential documents by WikiLeaks. Midway through the segment, Lauer raised the espionage issue: “Were you surprised to hear that Secretary of State Clinton and her predecessor, Secretary of State Rice, asked their diplomats to, in effect, spy on diplomats at the United Nations, asking for things like credit card numbers, computer passwords, DNA, fingerprints? This does cross a line, doesn't it? ” read more
