Oscar-Winning Directors The Coen Brothers Say They See No Need For Diversity In Their Movies – Compare Black People To Martians And Dogs??

Coen Brothers Downplay Diversity In Their Filmmaking We’ve already heard what George Clooney had to say about the #OscarsSoWhite controversy…but the director duo that has brought the actor many of his most successful roles seems to have a different outlook. When one writer asked the directors of films like “Oh Brother Where Art Thou?” and “No Country For Old Men” why it was their own films never seemed to feature Black faces…the duo basically scoffed at the question. Via TheDailyBeast : I asked the Coens to respond to criticisms that there aren’t more minority characters in the film. In other words, why is #HailCaesarSoWhite? “Why would there be?” countered Joel Coen. “I don’t understand the question. No—I understand that you’re asking the question, I don’t understand where the question comes from. “Not why people want more diversity—why they would single out a particular movie and say, ‘Why aren’t there black or Chinese or Martians in this movie? What’s going on?’ That’s the question I don’t understand. The person who asks that question has to come in the room and explain it to me.” As filmmakers, is it important or not important to consciously factor in concerns like diversity, I asked. “Not in the least!” Ethan answered. “It’s important to tell the story you’re telling in the right way, which might involve black people or people of whatever heritage or ethnicity—or it might not.” The Cohens very very rarely feature people of color in their films at all — much less in prominent roles. However they think singling out individual films “It’s an absolute, absurd misunderstanding of how things get made to single out any particular story and say, ‘Why aren’t there this, that, or the other thing?’” added Joel. “It’s a fundamental misunderstanding of how stories are written. So you have to start there and say, ‘You don’t know what you’re talking about.’” He continued: “You don’t sit down and write a story and say, ‘I’m going to write a story that involves four black people, three Jews, and a dog,’—right? That’s not how stories get written. If you don’t understand that, you don’t understand anything about how stories get written and you don’t realize that the question you’re asking is idiotic. “It’s not an illegitimate thing to say there should be more diversity in an industry,” concluded Joel. “But that’s not what that question is about. That question is about something else.” These two clearly don’t see diversity as their responsibility or concern…. WENN

The CDC Predicts Twins In Your Future

In a recent report, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention revealed that the birth rate of twins in the United States has become a trend. The twin birth rates are now 33.9 sets per 1,000 births and although sets of twins have been on the rise since 1980, the birth rates of triplets and other sets have decreased by 40 percent since their rise in the mid-1990s. CDC researchers believe the increase in twin rates have been caused by fertility treatments such as in-vitro fertilization. Since older women use fertility treatments like the aforementioned, it has been noted that the age group to birth twins have been those in their late-thirties to their early forties. It was also reported that older mothers who didn’t use fertility treatments conceived twins because they release two eggs during their menstruation cycle. This has also caused an increase in fraternal twins, not identical… [ MadameNoire ] How To Deal With Haters On The Job Face it, your co-workers aren’t always going to be your friends. “I Want All Of Them”: Kendrick Lamar Dishes On His Grammy Win Wishes And Obama Liking His Music With The New York Times

The New York Times Interviews Kendrick Lamar About Grammy Expectations And His Influence Kendrick Lamar sat down with the New York Times to speak about his feelings on his noble 11 Grammy nods, his influence on the culture and the President Of the United States liking his music. Read some interesting excerpts below. Via NY Times Eleven nominations is one fewer than Michael Jackson’s record. I’m still soaking that all in. Michael will forever be the greatest. I’m glad it was at 11. I would never want to even think about putting myself on the same level as Michael, simply because I haven’t put in the work that he did. It couldn’t be a better number. Is there one award you want to win above all? Ultimately, for the hip-hop community, I would love for us to win them all. Because we deserve that. Period. A hip-hop album winning those general interest categories would be a statement. I want all of them. Because it’s not only a statement for myself, but it’s a statement for the culture. They’re all important, because of the foundation the forefathers laid before me. Nas didn’t get a chance to be in that position. Pac. So to be acknowledged and to actually win, it’s for all of them. When did you realize that “Alright” was becoming an anthem for Black Lives Matter? When I’d go in certain parts of the world, and they were singing it in the streets. When it’s outside of the concerts, then you know it’s a little bit more deep-rooted than just a song. It’s more than just a piece of a record. It’s something that people live by — your words. Did you expect it to connect on that level? Definitely. Simple phrase: We gon’ be alright . It’s a chant of hope and feeling. I credit that to Pharrell, for being able to present an arrangement and to inspire me to do a record like that. Immediately, I knew the potential. President Obama said “How Much a Dollar Cost” was his favorite song of the year. Did you know before everyone else, or did you find out from People magazine ? I found out when everyone else found out. It’s crazy. That’s one of my favorite records, too. A lot of times we forget that people in higher places are human. To hear that he liked the same kick drums and the same snares that I like, it just makes him that much more relatable as a person, rather than just a president. How many Grammy’s out of the 11 do you think he will actually take home?

FBI: San Bernadino Mass Shooting Being Investigated As An Act Of Terror

ISIS Praises San Bernadino Mass Shooting By “Followers” The FBI is looking into the shooting in San Bernadino as an act of terrorism after a Saturday ISIS broadcast praising the massacre — which followed the recent revelation that Tashfeen Malik pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in a Facebook post just before she and husband Syed Farook killed 14 people and injured 20 others before dying hours later in a shootout with police. According to Washington Post reports : In an online radio broadcast Saturday by the Islamic State, the group said that two “supporters” had carried out the attacks in San Bernardino but stopped short of referring to the couple as members. The group praised the attacks but didn’t claim responsibility for it, according to the Associated Press. The FBI said Friday that it is investigating the San Bernardino, Calif., massacre as an act of terrorism, with officials revealing that the Pakistani woman who teamed with her husband in the slaughter went on Facebook afterward to pledge her allegiance to the leader of the Islamic State. Investigators are trying to determine if the husband-and-wife killers acted alone — inspired, but not directed, by foreign Islamist radicals — or were involved in a more elaborate plot. Hundreds of federal agents, in the United States and overseas, are looking for any contacts that the shooters — Chicago-born Syed Rizwan Farook, 29, and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, 27 — might have had with terrorist groups. “The investigation so far has developed indications of radicalization by the killers and of potential inspiration by foreign terrorist organizations,” FBI Director James B. Comey said Friday. But he said that, so far, there is no evidence that they were part of a larger group. By all accounts it seems that Tashfeen was the more radical of the pair. Family members describe her as being so conservative that she would not even allow her brother-in-law or father-in-law to see her face. Two criminal defense lawyers representing Farook’s mother, three siblings and brother-in-law held a news conference Friday and offered insight into the shooters, describing the husband as a loner and the wife as extremely conservative religiously, so much so that she would not be in the same room as her male in-laws. Malik’s brother-in-law had never seen her face. “She did maintain certain traditions in terms of prayer and fasting. She chose not to drive voluntarily. She was a very, very private person. She kept herself pretty well isolated,” family lawyer David Chesley said. “Syed didn’t want any fathers or brothers or brothers-in-law in the same room when she would also be there,” said another family lawyer, Mohammad Abuershaid. “The family was not that close to him,” he added. “He was kind of like the lone wolf.” Looks like the family is definitely trying to make it clear they had nothing to do with the attack. And obviously they couldn’t have been close because based on what authorities found at Farook’s home they should have known if they’d visited. There are a host of unknowns in this case, including whether the shooters had other targets in mind, a possibility suggested by the dozen pipe bombs and the thousands of rounds of ammunition in their apartment. The shooters also sought to cover their tracks by damaging some of their personal electronic devices. Authorities found two crushed cellphones near the apartment and were examining other evidence that the shooters “attempted to destroy their digital fingerprints,” said David Bowdich, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles office. What do you think? Was ISIS directly involved or is this just the result of how extremism can influence people. And if that’s the case, are we in even more danger than we already anticipated? Kim Kardashian: Look At How Swollen I Am!!!

Kim Kardashian  is supremely over her pregnancy. You can’t blame the girl for wanting the 9 months to be over with.  Kardashian suffered from preeclampsia with daughter, North in 2013 and had to have a painful surgery post-delivery to remove her placenta.   This time around, Kardashian’s  at high risk for the same issue. “With the issues I had last time, my risk of having preclampsia and placenta acreeta are increased,” the reality star wrote on her blog.  “There’s not a whole lot I can do to prevent it, so my anxiety is a little high leading up to my delivery.” Today, Kardashian indulged in a little comic relief with her sister, Kourtney and best friend, Jonathan Cheban . In a video posted on her website, Kardashian complained about her swollen joints, “double chin” and “these lips” (which I thought were fake, but are the result of being preggo?). “Ugh these fat hands, my ring doesn’t even fit,” Kardashian whined (let the girl whine, I say). “I am so tired you guys, I don’t know what’s wrong with me.” Cheban told his friend to give herself a break.   “You deserve to be tired because you don’t stop.” Kardashian went on to tell a cute story about her kid. “I woke up at 4 in the morning you guys because North was like mommy come sleep with me – I think she really knows – so went in her room at 4 am and I feel asleep right with her.” Talk turned to the swelling of Kardashian’s pregnant body. “I have flip flops on and they almost don’t fit me,” Kardashian explained.  “If I could even lift my foot up I would show you guys. They look so ugly!” The miracle of life is a beautiful thing. View Slideshow: Kim Kardashian Pregnant Pics: Big Bump! Even Bigger Boobs!
