Race Matters: “Hate In America” Set To Premiere On Investigation Discovery Tonight [Video]

Now more than ever it seems like we need a show like this to shine a light on some of the ugliest events in American history. Investigation Discovery (ID) and Emmy Award-winning journalist Tony Harris are teaming up once again with premiere civil rights advocacy organization, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), to produce HATE IN AMERICA, a new documentary strand that showcases the SPLC’s efforts to combat bigotry and hate groups in the United States. The mission of the SPLC and its legendary founder, Morris Dees, are to combat the hate, intolerance and discrimination perpetuated by these groups through education, litigation and advocacy. According to the SPLC’s 2015 Intelligence Report, the number of extremist groups operating domestically grew by 14% from 2014, and the SPLC catalogued an astounding 892 hate groups in the US, including neo-Nazis, white nationalists, black separatists, Klansmen and other groups that target the LGBT community. Produced by NBC News’ award-winning production arm Peacock Productions, the documentary series HATE IN AMERICA kicks off with its first premiere on Monday, February 29 at 8/7c, showcasing the SPLC’s remarkable strides to fight organized hate over the past four decades. In the first episode of HATE IN AMERICA, titled The Klan on Trial, Harris explores some of the SPLC’s most riveting court cases, starting with the Michael Donald case – a heinous lynching of a young man in the early 1980s that prompted SPLC founder Morris Dees to sue the United Klans of America (UKA) on behalf of the victim’s mother. In this landmark court decision, the UKA’s violent leadership was held responsible for the unspeakably violent and racist acts of its members, helping to turn the tide against organized hate in our country. Harris also digs deep into the deeds of notorious white supremacist murderer Glenn Miller, who most recently made national headlines when he went on a shooting spree at a Kansas Jewish Community Center in April 2014. The first episode of HATE IN AMERICA, The Klan on Trial premieres on Monday, February 29 at 8/7c on Investigation Discovery, with subsequent premieres airing throughout 2016. Will you be watching?

Donald Trump Said WHAT About Ted Cruz?!?

We really have no idea at this point why we're surprised by any of the words that come out of Donald Trump's mouth. Remember what Trump said about Mexicans ? What he said about women ? What he said about one woman in particular being on her period when she interviewed him? Still… there was Trump in New Hampshire on Monday evening, one night before that state's Presidential primary, talking about opponent Ted Cruz. At one point, the topic turned to waterboarding and how Cruz hesitated during the last Republican debate in saying he would used this enhanced interrogation technique on terrorists. Trump, conversely, made it clear he would bring it back and also do much “worse” to enemies of the United States. While acting all shocked over Cruz's viewpoint, Trump overheard a woman in the audience refer to Cruz in a very specific, very derogatory manner. He could have ignored the comment. He could have just kept right on with his speech. But this is Donald Trump, people. He made a big show out of what the woman said and then he repeated what the woman said, sarcastically castigating her for referring to Cruz as “pussy,” while, of course, referring to Cruz as a “pussy” himself in the process. It was a pretty amazing moment, even for Donald Trump, and it's worth watching the incident unfold. We promise that you've never seen anything like it in politics before.

Black Girls Rock: Atlanta Student Candace Hill Is The Fastest Teenager In America And Excels With A 4.6 GPA!

Atlanta Teenager Candace Hill Is The Fastest Track Star In Nation Georgia teen, Candace Hill, is breaking records and excelling in her academics as one of the premiere young athletes of our generation according to New York Times : When Candace Hill became the fastest teenage girl the United States has ever clocked, sprinting 100 meters in 10.98 seconds in June, she was suddenly good enough not only to qualify for next summer’s Rio Olympics, but also to potentially win a medal there. Now, at age 16, she has become the youngest track athlete in the United States to turn professional. “It’s the era of the girl in general,” said Lauren Fleshman, a professional runner and five-time N.C.A.A. champion at Stanford. “Women have never been more marketable in sports than they are now, from U.S. soccer to Serena. Forty-plus years since Title IX means we have our first generation of supportive parents and coaches who grew up with the idea of female athletes not being horrifying. People are training girls harder than ever.” Allyson Felix turned professional instead of running for the University of Southern California in 2003, going on to become one of the most successful American sprinters in history. Felix remained the only track athlete to bypass college for professional running until a decade later, when the middle-distance runner Mary Cain signed with Nike in 2013 at age 17 before enrolling at the University of Portland. Cain was followed by the distance runner Alexa Efraimson, who signed with Nike at age 17 in 2014. Earlier this year, Kaylin Whitney, who set the high school 100-meter record before Hill shattered it, signed with Nike on her 17th birthday. The middle-distance runner Ajee’ Wilson turned pro right after high school instead of competing in college in 2012. But none of them stood out the way Hill does. Her potential is considered so outsize that she brokered an unusual arrangement with Asics, a running footwear and apparel company. It will cover full tuition for Hill, who has a 4.6 grade-point average and top-10 class ranking in her magnet school near Atlanta, at any college that admits her. The contract, which at 10 years is also uncommonly long, effectively serves as an athletic scholarship, even though Hill, who plans to attend college while competing, will not be eligible to race collegiately. (Asics and Hill declined to discuss the financial terms of the arrangement.) “Candace is as good a student as she is an athlete, and we found that intriguing,” said Gene McCarthy, the chief executive of Asics America Group. “For us, she’s a Halley’s comet of sport, a teenager who’s tremendously gifted in both mind and body. With that talent and drive, we’re betting that she can be the fastest woman in the world someday.” See you at the Olympics Candace!!! Steve Strother Photo
