New Report From A U.N. Working Group Is A Reminder That Being A Woman In America Is Still Really Hard

A working group for the United Nations confirmed that being a woman in the U.S. is far from easy, and although we’ve come a long way, there’s so much more to go. Last week, the group released a report which detailed several aspects of how women are still actively discriminated against in America.

Seriously? Donald Trump Calls To “Totally And Completely” Ban Muslims From The USA

Donald Trump Calls To Ban Muslims From Entering US Has Donald Trump finally made a statement that not even his most rabid supporters would get behind? Donald made it clear that he firmly stands for discrimination based on country of origin , and now based on religious grounds, stating that the US needs to shut down immigration to all Muslims entering the US, whether for long-term immigration or short-term tourism — including Americans of Islamic faith who currently happen to be out of the country and are looking to return home. Via MailOnline : Donald Trump today called for ‘a total and complete shutdown’ of Muslim immigration into America. In a dramatic intervention in the wake of the San Bernardino massacre, the Republican frontrunner claimed the country was at risk of ‘horrendous attacks by people that believe only in jihad’. Citing one poll that found that 25 percent of Muslims ‘agreed that violence against Americans here in the United States is justified as a part of the global Jihad,’ Trump said hatred by Muslims toward Americans ‘is beyond comprehension.’ Immigration needed to be halted ‘until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on,’ the campaign wrote. Trump, and many of his GOP rivals, had already called on the Obama Administration to halt bringing in 10,000 Syrian refugees during the aftermath of the Nov. 13 ISIS attacks in Paris. At the time, Trump said he would prefer to just take in Christian refugees. And as for the millions of practicing Muslims already living here… Trump has also talked about increasing surveillance of mosques and creating a database for Muslims [already] living in the country. This new statement is taking it a step further, suggesting that all Muslims be banned from entering the United States. When asked to articulate who would be included in this plan – Muslim immigrants or American Muslims who are currently abroad – Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks told The Hill: ‘Mr. Trump says, “everyone.”‘ Tourists and those seeking immigration visas would also be told no. Hmmm… first no Mexicans…now no Muslims. Donald sure is working his way through the spectrum of brown people. We suspect it’s only a matter of time before he trickles on over to his master plan for Black folks… Funny how we haven’t heard his plan for all the radial “Christian” white men that attack this nation with domestic terror at frightening rates. Either way, even other Republicans are saying this idea is bigoted at best, and dumb as all hell at worst. Does this mean we are FINALLY finished with Donald the Clown??

WELP! Dallas Mayor Says He’s More Scared Of Armed White Men Than Poor Syrian Refugees

Dallas Mayor Says He’s More Fearful Of Armed White Men Than Syrian Refugees The mayor of Dallas is firing back against bigoted politicians who say Americans should not allow Syrian refugees to enter its border, saying he is “more fearful” of armed white men than people fleeing civil war in the Middle East according to Think Progress . Speaking to MSNBC on Saturday morning, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings was asked to discuss the growing anxiety over Syrian refugees entering the United States, purportedly over concerns they could be potential agents for militant groups such as ISIS. Rawlings staunchly rejected the assertion that Syrians are somehow uniquely prone to violence, saying he is more concerned with the rise of white supremacy and the recent flurry of mass shootings committed by white men. “I am more fearful of large gatherings of white men that come into schools, theaters and shoot people up, but we don’t isolate young white men on this issue,” Rawlings said. He also said that vilifying refugees only helps ISIS, as doing so falls into their “trap.” He then pushed back on the notion that ISIS is somehow representative of Islam. “ISIS is no more Islamic than Nazi senior staff was Christian,” he said. He also subtly challenged Christian governors and other followers of Christ who have rejected refugees, referencing Jesus’ scriptural call to “welcome the stranger” in Matthew 25:41-43, asking, “Christ following people like myself — how do we deal with this issue of strangers, and are we going to let them in?” Rawlings, meanwhile, has said he is willing to welcome refugees to his city, telling the Dallas Morning News that helping them is part of the “the spirit of Dallas.” WELP!

Mike Tyson: Vote Donald Trump for President!

Did Mike Tyson just deliver a knockout punch to Jeb Bush, Ben Carson and other Republican nominees for President? Probably not. But the former heavyweight champion of the world did step into the political ring during a recent interview with The Huffington Post, making it very clear who has his support. Speaking about Donald Trump, Tyson said simply, “he should be President of the United States,” going on to explain: “Let's try something new. Let's run America like a business, where no colors matter. Whoever can do the job, gets the job.” What about the comments Trump has made about women ? What about what Trump said about Mexicans ? And then about other immigrants? Tyson admitted some of these remarks may have been a tad on the “crude” side, but whatever. That's Iron Mike's basic take. Tyson doesn't believe Trump actually “thinks of Latinos in that [negative] way,” offering no real evidence to back up this assertion. The former boxer went on to say he would absolutely “endorse” Trump for real if asked, though Trump's campaign is yet to reach out and inquire. It is worth noting that Tyson may have changed his reputation over recent years by appearing in The Hangover movies and even starring in a Broadway play. But the guy did go to jail for rape. He also has a tattoo on his face. And he also once bit off part of Evander Holyfield's ear inside the ring during a match. Even Donald Trump may not want him in his corner. (Eh, who are we kidding? Donald Trump has no standards. )

Mexican Immigrant Married To American Can’t Return To US Because Of Tattoos??

U.S. Stops Mexican Man With American Children From Returning Over “Gang” Tattoos Ruben Zamora, a Mexican man who lived in the U.S. since he was 8 years-old, left the country last summer and has yet to return because of a tattoo he got in his teens. The American Consulate said he has gang tattoos — and, therefore, was part of a criminal enterprise according to The NY Daily News . Zamora, who has an American wife and 2 children thought he was doing the right thing by going to Mexico and applying for a visa but his plan backfired, SMH. Here is what Zamora’s wife, Vanessa Ruiz had to say to The NY Daily News about it: Ruiz said her husband was being condemned because of a youthful mistake. Zamora got the tattoos when he was a teen living in Queens — and the symbols weren’t gang-related back then. “He and his friends . . . thought that tattoo looked cool and they got it,” said Carr. The group later got involved in gang activity, but Zamora was no longer hanging with them, the lawyer said. “The fact is there’s no flexibility to actually look at his record and say, ‘Look, there’s been no arrests in the United States for him being in gangs,” she said. “There’s no flexibility in the law.” For Ruiz, the thought of life without her husband is devastating — financially and emotionally. “He was very responsible. He used to pay all the bills . . . I (am) so frustrated because I had to pay all these bills. I was going to lose my apartment. I had to go to welfare to see if they could help in some way,” said Ruiz, who works part-time in the call center at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx.   Dang, we hope they let him prove his innocence. Kelly Clarkson Cancels Remainder of 2015 Tour

Kelly Clarkson has delivered some very sad news to a large number of fans. The original American Idol has canceled the remaining 2015 dates on her sold-out tour. In a statement on the artist’s website, Clarkson cited vocal rest as the reason behind this unfortunate change, noting that fans who bought tickets in Canada and the United Kingdom will be eligible for a full refund.  “I am truly sorry that I have to cancel the remainder of my tour dates. I was so looking forward to sharing this tour with all my amazing fans in Canada and the UK,” Kelly wrote. “Unfortunately my doctor is telling me I have to stay on vocal rest, but I am working hard to get better as fast as possible.” Clarkson, who is pregnant with her second child , had previously canceled the final six dates on her U.S. tour for the same medical reason. “This kills me, but doctors are saying I need to rest my voice!” she wrote at that time, adding: “I can’t wait to get healthy and see y’all back on the road soon. “I hate canceling and I am truly sorry to my fans that have been excited to see this show. For Discussion: What Does The Pope’s Visit To The U.S. Mean To African-Americans?

What Does Pope Francis’ Visit To The U.S. Mean To African-Americans And Minorities? Pope Francis’ first visit to the United States was big news this week in the mainstream media. All week there was lots of talk about his overtly liberal political views on climate change, divorce, gay marriage, and contraception, but very little about his thoughts on social reform in regards to people of color. “Black folks” might not be the first image to pop into your head when thinking about the Pope or Catholicism, but there ARE black catholics and many of them want to know where the church stands on issues that affect them, i.e. #BlackLivesMatter. Via IBTimes While blacks make up a sliver of the nation’s Catholic population, some of the faith’s African-American leaders and adherents said the pope’s message on injustice and inequality was an implicit admonishment that blacks had not yet achieved true social and economic parity with their white counterparts. The pope’s repeated mentions of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. this week during his first trip to the United States was an affirmation of what social justice activists have said for most of the year leading up to his visit — that black lives matter and deserve equal access to the American dream, said some black Catholics. “I think the pope has already communicated that the voices of the locked out and the left out should be listened to,” said Marc Morial, a lifelong Catholic who is president and CEO of the National Urban League, a black civil rights organization based in New York City. “That’s what the Black Lives Matter movement has been about,” he said, referring to the national social justice movement that first emerged in 2013 as a Twitter hashtag campaign protesting police brutality …“I don’t expect that [the pope] will go through a checklist of every nuance and political issue,” Morial said by phone Thursday from Washington, D.C. “But are [church leaders] listening and hearing the pope on social justice, and what does that mean going forward?” To that end, Pope Francis had this to say about the current political structure: “If politics must truly be at the service of the human person, it follows that it cannot be a slave to the economy and finance,” Francis said Thursday to members of the U.S. Congress. Politics should be “an expression of our compelling need to live as one, in order to build as one the greatest common good,” the pope continued. He added: “I do not underestimate the difficulty that this involves, but I encourage you in this effort.” In another address made in NYC, Pope Francis spoke on the several of the issues which affect many African-American communities nationwide: Via NYTimes “In big cities, beneath the roar of traffic, beneath the rapid pace of change, so many faces pass by unnoticed because they have no ‘right’ to be there, no right to be part of the city,” Francis said in a Mass before 20,000 at Madison Square Garden. “They are the foreigners, the children who go without schooling, those deprived of medical insurance, the homeless, the forgotten elderly. These people stand at the edges of our great avenues, in our streets, in deafening anonymity.” …He spoke of that divide often during the day, from his first remarks before the United Nations General Assembly, where he called for respect for “those considered disposable because they are only considered as part of a statistic,” to his closing homily’s observation that “big cities also conceal the faces of all those people who don’t appear to belong, or are second-class citizens.” How do you feel about Pope Francis’ remarks? Do they carry weight with you? Can the pope, along with the Catholic church, help bring about change in the United States in regards to the treatment of minorites? Image via AP
