North Korea Labels Barack Obama a "Monkey," Threatens U.S. with "Deadly Blows"

North Korea has upped the ante in its feud with the United States. In the wake of The Interview being released in select theaters on Christmas Day, along with an Internet outage this week in North Korea, a spokesperson for that unstable nation has come out swinging against President Barack Obama. Via a statement that blames America for North Korea’s latest World Wide Web disruptions, the totalitarian regime’s ruling body, the National Defence Commission, says of our Commander-in-Chief: “Obama always goes reckless in words and deeds like a monkey in a tropical forest.” The FBI, of course, has confirmed that North Korea was behind endless hacks into the personal lives of Sony executives, a scandal that caused the company to initially cancel the release of The Interview. In response to that decision, Obama mocked his country’s arch nemesis . The North Korean spokesperson also charged the United States with falsely linking the Sony hacking to North Korea “without clear evidence,” accusing the Presidential administration of “disturbing the Internet operation” of North Korea in retaliation. The Interview stars James Franco and Seth Rogen and centers on their characters’ attempt to assassinate Kim Jong-un. Sony chose to release the film in just a handful of theaters late this week, following Obama’s criticism of its decision to essentially erase it from existence in the wake of the hacking scandal. Adds North Korea’s National Defence Commission in its statement: “U.S. President Obama is the chief culprit who forced the Sony Pictures Entertainment to ‘indiscriminately distribute’ the movie and took the lead in appeasing and blackmailing cinema houses and theatres in the U.S. mainland to distribute the movie.” President Obama: Flubs James Franco’s Name

You Can’t Be Serious: Greedy Illinois Woman Files Trademark For Eric Garner’s Dying Words ‘I Can’t Breathe’

People don’t see Black or White , only green! Woman Files Trademark Application For I Can’t Breathe An Illinois woman is seeking to trademark the dying last words of the New York City man who gasped “I can’t breathe” while being arrested by NYPD cops for selling loose cigarettes. Via The Smoking Gun reports: In a December 13 application, Catherine Crump petitioned the United States Patent and Trademark Office to register the phrase for use on hoodies and t-shirts for men, women, boys, girls, and infants. The 57-year-old Crump, who lives in Waukegan, a city 40 miles north of Chicago, contends that she has been using “I can’t breathe” for commercial purposes since “at least as early” as August 18, one month after Eric Garner, 43, died following a confrontation with police on Staten Island. A video of the encounter captured Garner repeatedly saying, “I can’t breathe” as Officer Daniel Pantaleo wrapped his arm around the 350-pound suspect’s neck. Other officers sought to pin Garner to the sidewalk so he could be handcuffed. A Staten Island grand jury earlier this month declined to indict Pantaleo in connection with Garner’s death. During nationwide marches, participants have chanted “I can’t breathe” as part of protests against police brutality. In an interview, Crump said that she had “nothing to do with the Garner family,” and had not spoken to them about her trademark bid. While claiming that her purpose for marketing “I can’t breathe” garments was not to make money, she declined to disclose what other reason there was for her trademark filing (which cost $325). Three similar entrepreneurs have filed to trademark the phrase “Hands Up Don’t Shoot” for use on clothing items. Each of those USPTO applications was filed within three weeks of the August 9 death of Michael Brown, the unarmed teenager who was shot to death by a cop in Ferguson, Missouri. Do you think people should be profiting from the death of Eric Garner and other Black lives taken too soon?? Continue reading

Ebola-Inspired Halloween Costumes: Too Soon or Too Funny?

Ebola has come to the United States. Over the past several weeks, the disease has infected its first patients in America, with a nurse named Nina Pham recently contracting it it after treating another victim. But even though it’s deadly, and even though it’s very recently taken lives close to come, Ebola is very much in the news. And that means it’s ripe for Halloween! Ebola Halloween Costume: Actually for Sale! Yes, multiple costume shops are selling Ebola Hazmat Suits for October 31. Jonathan Weeks – chief executive of BrandsOnSale, which is selling an Ebola containment suit costume for $79.99 – tells the Associated Press that he doesn’t want to “stray away from anything that’s current or controversial” when offering options to his patrons. (Kim Kardashian, meanwhile, is reportedly terrified of Ebola and has ordered Hazmat suits for her entire family, unrelated to Halloween.) It’s not unusual, of course, for articles of clothing to elicit controversy. To wit: 14 Controversial Articles of Clothing 1.
