Yup, you read that correctly. A cleaning woman stole an empty commuter train in a suburb of Stockholm, Sweden and crashed it into a house today, injuring herself, local officials say. The four-carriage train was driven out of the depot for about a mile until it jumped the tracks and became lodged INSIDE A THREE-STORY building. Police arrested a woman, who was hospitalized with serious injuries. Nobody else was hurt, and no motive for her jacking the train has been revealed. “We have only heard good things about her,” said Tomas Hedenius, a spokesman for train operator Arriva. “We’re investigating how this could happen.” Three families were inside the apartment building hit by the train but nobody was hurt. “It’s incredibly lucky that no one in the house was injured,” a police spokesman said. Forget why … how did she possibly take control of a major mode of transportation? Christer Wennerholm, a member of the Stockholm County Council’s traffic committee, said: “It shouldn’t be possible for unauthorized people to drive our trains.” Probably not.

Quentin Tarantino says slavery continues in the United States. The outspoken filmmaker — whose spaghetti southern Django Unchained unflinchingly depicts the brutality of slavery — stoked the debate on race Tuesday night when he appeared on the Canadian television talk show George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight to suggest that the United States’ “war on drugs” and its “mass incarcerations” of black men is “just slavery through and through.” Tarantino didn’t cite these figures, but he could have: According to the New York Times, half of the 2.3 million Americans in prison or jail are black, an astonishing figure when compared to 2011 U.S. Census information that indicates blacks comprise only 13.1 percent of the country’s population. In other words, he’s got a point, and this is a conversation our country should stop avoiding. Tarantino was promoting Django Unchained , which opens Christmas Day, on Stroumboulopoulos’ CBC show when he made the controversial comments, and it will be interesting to see whether they get any traction in the U.S.— especially since the national debate is now focused on gun control in the wake of the Newtown, Conn. shootings. A spokesman for George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight provided Movieline with a video clip of Tarantino’s segment and a transcript of his comments. Check them out below and let me know whether you agree with Tarantino’s remarks in the comments section. George Stroumboulopoulos: So you know this film is gonna deal with the conversation about race in America today, people will talk about it. What do you feel about where it’s at? Quentin Tarantino: Uh… It’s… You know, there is… On a day-to-day, day-in, day-out basis for most people in America, it’s okay. Things have gotten a lot better. People are a little too sensitive to talk about stuff, and that’s a drag, but you know that’s, that’s how it is. But on a bigger level, it’s very depressing. This whole thing of the, this “war on drugs,” and the mass incarcerations that have happened pretty much for the last 40 years has just decimated the black male population. It’s slavery, it is just, it’s just slavery through and through, and it’s just the same fear of the black male that existed back in the 1800s. And uh, you know there’s a reason – I mean, especially having even directed a movie about slavery, and you know the scenes that we have in the slave town, the slave auction town, where they’re moving back and forth. Well that looks like standing in the top tier of a prison system and watching the things go down. And between the private prisons and the public prisons, the way prisoners are traded back and forth. And literally all the reasons that they have for keeping this going are all the same reasons they had for keeping slavery going after the whole world had pretty much decided that it was immoral. GS: Right. Business first. QT: Because it’s like, because it’s an industry. And one, what are we gonna do with all these people that are let loose, you know, these black people let loose, and two, what are we gonna do about all of the people that make money off of this industry? Jimmy Carter Says The Mary Jane Should Be Legalized Because The Laws Via Huffington Post Former President Jimmy Carter gave a full-throated endorsement of state efforts to legalize marijuana during an appearance at a CNN forum aired on Tuesday. Carter, who as president supported an era of marijuana decriminalization in the mid-1970s, told CNN’s Suzanne Malveaux that he was “in favor” of states that were taking steps to legalize the drug. “I think it’s OK,” Carter said. “I don’t think it’s going to happen in Georgia yet, but I think we can watch and see what happens in the state of Washington for instance, around Seattle, and let the American government and let the American people see does it cause a serious problem or not.” The ex-POTUS goes on to say: Speaking about the issues of an anti-drug system focused on enforcement, Carter suggested that large incarceration rates, especially among minorities, were being perpetuated by harsh punishments for marijuana possession. “It’s a major step backward, and it ought to be reversed, not only in America, but around the world,” Carter argued, later going on to say that nations such as Portugal, which decriminalized all drugs in 2000, could be a model for the United States to look toward in the future. Jimmy has a point, there are a LOT of brothas (AND sistas) in jail for what most would consider “minor” Mary Jane offenses. Image via Carter Center
Cathie Adams, former Texas GOP chair, gave a pre-election address earlier this year, claiming that a “Marxist” President Barack Obama had “fried his brain on drugs.” Cathie Adams Accuses President Obama Of Using Drugs Via HuffPo : In a speech at a Grassroots America We The People “Call To Action” event, first reported on by Right Wing Watch, Adams embarked on a longwinded conspiracy theory about Obama enacting an oppressive “green agenda, which is Marxism.” Her claims eventually led her to talk about a ballot initiative in Colorado to legalize and tax marijuana. “And folks we’ve got to be very careful about saying ‘well, that’s not for me but you can do whatever you want.’ Folks, we have a rule of law, we have a Constitution, and those things must be upheld,” Adams said about Amendment 64, which ultimately passed. “And if we legalize it, will we empty out our jails and will we be safe for ever more? No. I’m telling you, Barack Hussein Obama has got to have a teleprompter because he fried his brain on drugs.” It’s unclear where the last claim about Obama’s drug use fits in Adams’ broader allegations of a “Marxist” or “green” agenda. Though the president has admitted to using drugs in his younger years — particularly marijuana, though also cocaine at some point — his administration has been aggressive in continuing to enforce federal laws which classify those substances as illegal. Obama hasn’t supported state efforts to legalize marijuana, and advocates of those measures remain concerned that the Department of Justice won’t back down in the face of new state laws. During her speech, Adams also criticized a “narcissistic” Obama, saying the look he gave to then-GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney during one of the debates had made her so mad that she “wanted to go up and just smack his face.” Let’s see: Ivy League educated; senator; two-term president of the United States; smart, hot wife; two adorable, healthy kids; great speaker; fine writer; smartest guy in the room… any room; not an ounce of fat around his middle; full head of hair; tall, graceful, athletic, and generally in excellent health. Please, somebody, pass us the drugs this guy is on!

Everything is bigger in Texas…which might be why they continue to get a big ole’ ‘Ho Sit Down’ from the POTUS.. White House Ignores Texas Petition To Secede From United States Super-salty GOP officials in Texas might as well have a seat, a coke and smile while they wait for President Obama to show any signs of ‘give a fawk’ about their request to officially separate themselves from the United States (despite Texas gov. Rick Perry’s opposition) in light of his re-election. ‘Cause he has better things to do and is making that clear without even having said a word. via ABC News Texas is waiting for President Obama’s reaction to a petition demanding it be allowed to secede from the United States. They may have to keep waiting. Sunday marked the last day for Texas’ petition to secede from the union to gather 25,000 digital signatures, the number needed to warrant a response from the White House. The virtual petition achieved that goal four weeks ago. Now it’s up to 119,209, but still no word from the Oval Office. A White House official told ABC News in November that it would respond to the petition, following a procedure that demands they address any entry to the “We the People” site that rallies the requisite amount of support. On Friday, the White House said they had no prediction for when they might put out at statement. Dear Texas, good luck with getting a secession approved when your own Governor doesn’t even support the effort. SMH.
