Eminem Talks ‘Recovery,’ Touring Sober

‘Everything right now is a step at a time,’ the MC tells ‘Billboard.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Eminem on the cover of Billboard Photo: Billboard Eminem graces the cover of the new issue of Billboard . In the accompanying interview, the Detroit rapper discusses his struggle to return to rap dominance after a five-year hiatus to combat his drug dependency. Last year he returned with Relapse , an uneven collection that at its best lucidly detailed the depths of his battle and at its worst came across as hackneyed. On the recently released Recovery , Eminem decided to return to to his earlier work for inspiration. “I would go back and listen to songs off The Marshall Mathers LP , The Eminem Show , and some of Encore and ask, ‘Why don’t my music feel like this anymore?’ ” Em said. “”‘The Way I Am,’ ‘Criminal’ and ‘Toy Soldiers’ were songs that meant something. I wanted there to be a reason why I was making each song, instead of making it just to make it.” During the recording of his two albums prior to Recovery , Em said, he was either in full-blown addiction mode ( Encore ) or so freshly sober ( Relapse ) that he was unable to focus correctly on the material he made. “I was like, ‘S—, man, trees are beautiful again,’ ” Em said, describing the way he viewed the world during the making of Relapse . “‘What a nice day it is.’ I don’t think I was paying attention to what the average listener might like or not like.” Em said that he now wants to focus on earning the praise of his peers and die-hard fans with Recovery . Then, he’ll focus on hitting the road. He’s set to appear at music festivals both abroad and in the United States this summer, and he’s playing shows with Jay-Z in Detroit and New York in September. But the superstar MC is cautious about returning to a major touring schedule. “I’ll do these shows and see how I feel afterward, then set up a couple more,” he said. “I’ve had to relearn to do shows sober, because there were so many years that I didn’t know how to do it. Alcohol, Valium — all these things were crutches for me so that I didn’t have to feel anything when I went onstage. Everything right now is a step at a time, a day at a time.” Are you going to see Eminem perform soon? Sound off in the comments below! Related Photos The Evolution Of: Eminem Related Artists Eminem

Natural Gas Use to Double in US in Coming Decades: MIT Report

photo: citylovesyou_ffm via flickr After two years of study, researchers from MIT have forecast natural gas use in the United States doubling in the coming decades, increasing energy market share to 40%. That increase comes largely because natural gas eventually replaces more coal in electricity generation thanks to future carbon emissions reduction policy. … Read the full story on TreeHugger

Open Thread: House Passes DISCLOSE Act

Yesterday, by a vote of 219-206, the House passed a bill meant to counter the landmark SCOTUS decision in January overturning limits on corporate and union political expenditures. [T]he restrictions in the DISCLOSE Act only cut one way — against business. If you took TARP funds as a business, express political advocacy is now verboten. So GM has very limited first amendment rights, but even though arguably primary beneficiary of the auto bailout was the United Auto Workers union which got government garunteed billions directly as a result of the TARP funding — UAW can spend almost whatever it pleases, and it has a history of spending millions on Democratic campaigns. Further, under the DISCLOSE Act if a company has more than $7 million in government contracts, it has no right to political speech. But public sector unions can spend millions of recycled tax dollars campaigning for Democrats, no problem. All this will likely do is make business spend more money on lobbyists rather than campaigns. Of course, campaign spending is much more transparent than lobbying, but when it comes to the DISCLOSE act, clean elections and free speech seem to be secondary considerations to getting Democrats elected. House Minotiry Leader John Boehner said the bill “shreds our Constitution for raw, ugly, partisan gain.” Do you think that’s hyperbole?

It’s The Troops Stupid! General Stanley McChrystal’s Burning Disgust for the Puppet Obama…(VIDEO)

General McChrystal’s Burning Contempt for the Puppet Obama Kurt Nimmo Infowars.com June 22, 2010 The farce that is the war in Afghanistan is coming apart at the seams. General Stanley McChrystal’s sharp comments about Obama, Biden, and the administration published by Rolling Stone are not so much about disrespect, as the script-reading corporate media talking heads would have it, but rather about a policy in disarray in Afghanistan. An Inconvenient Rumor: Al Gore Accused of Sexual Assault on Massage Therapist

Al Gore has had better months. Ever since the former Vice President of the United States separated from wife Tipper, scandalous allegations have been a-flyin’. The latest? The National Enquirer says Gore was accused of sexually attacking a masseuse in Portland, Oregon, back in 2006, and is named in a police report. The bombshell story will include the secret police documents, a photo of the woman making the stunning charges and will reveal the details, the tabloid says. Alleged proof of the encounter? Pants she saved as evidence. True or not, this report comes just weeks after Al and Tipper Gore split . The Enquirer says she suspected he was involved with “a gorgeous massage therapist.” Well, at least she’s pretty, supposedly. AL GORE SEX ATTACK : A month ago, if you told us we would report two stories about the former V.P. getting his freak on, we probably wouldn’t have believed you . He’s also accused of an affair with Laurie David , ex-wife of Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm creator Larry David, and a producer on An Inconvenient Truth . The celebrity gossip tabloid says the 62-year-old Gore was in Portland at the time of the alleged incident – October 24, 2006 – and has the $540 massage bill. No criminal charges were filed against Gore, but Portland police prepared a document marked “Confidential Special Report” – containing explosive allegations. A woman, whose name is being withheld by the publication, reportedly lodged a complaint “unwanted sexual contact” by Al Gore “at a local upscale hotel.” We would say this is pure nonsense, but it’s not exactly loose, vague wording of the OK! or Star variety. Besides, after Rielle Hunter , nothing is surprising.

Jesus will return by 2050, say 40% of Americans

Americans are largely optimistic about the future, according to the poll from the Pew Research Center For The People and The Press/Smithsonian Magazine. By mid century, 71 per cent believe cancer will be cured, 66 per cent say artificial limbs will work better than real ones and 81 per cent believe computers will be able to converse like humans. But Americans are also braced for a major energy crisis and a warming planet, according to the survey. More than half, or 58 per cent, fear another world war in the next 40 years and 53 per cent expect a terrorist attack against the United States using a nuclear weapon. The poll also shows a sharp dip in overall optimism from 1999, when 81 per cent said they were optimistic about life for themselves and their families. The current poll found just 64 per cent were. Sixty-one percent said they were optimistic about the future of the United States, compared to 70 percent in 1999. And 56 percent predicted the US economy would be stronger in 40 years, compared to 64 percent of those polled in 1999. The results were compiled from telephone and online interviews with 1,546 adults in April. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points, according to Pew. Here are some other findings of the poll: • 71 per cent believe cancer will be cured by 2050. • 81 per cent believe computers will be able to converse like humans. • 68 per cent of those under 30 predict a world war by 2050. • 53 per cent say ordinary people will travel in space • Nearly three-quarters, or 74 per cent, of those polled believe it likely that “most of our energy will come from sources other than coal, oil, and gas”. • Yet 72 per cent believe the world is likely to experience a major worldwide energy crisis by 2050. • 66 per cent say the Earth will definitely or probably get warmer but it breaks down strongly along political lines, with just 48 per cent of Republicans saying so and 83 per cent of Democrats. • 42 per cent say it is likely that scientists will be able to tell what people are thinking by scanning their brains but 55 say this will definitely or probably not happen. • 89 per cent believe a woman will be elected US president by 2050. • 86 per cent say it is at least probable that most Americans will have to work into their 70s before retiring. • 41 per cent say Jesus Christ will return within the next 40 years while 46 per cent say this will definitely or probably not happen. • 63 per cent anticipate the demise of paper money • 61 per cent say almost no one will send letters by 2050. • 31 per cent expect the planet will be struck by an asteroid. added by: cclark_productions

Rush Limbaugh Bashes GOP for not standing behind Barton

(CNN) – Conservative talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh is taking aim at Republican leaders for rushing to demand Texas Rep. Joe Barton retract his controversial apology to BP CEO Tony Hayward during last week's congressional hearing. On his radio show Monday, Limbaugh suggested the GOP leadership likely agrees with Barton's sentiments, but are driven by recent national polls which suggest the majority of Americans support President Barack Obama's push for BP to set aside $20 billion for future liability claims. “It was a shakedown pure and simple,” said Limbaugh, echoing the words for which Barton later apologized. “And somebody had the audacity to call it what it was and now everybody's running for the hills.” “All you have to do is look at the polling,” Limbaugh continued. “We're talking about Republicans inside the beltway. All you have to do is look at the polling data and media coverage and find out what they are going to do.” Barton, the ranking Republican on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, quickly faced fire from both the right and the left after apologizing to Hayward during the BP chairman's appearance before his committee Thursday. Hours later – amid threats he would lose his leadership post – Barton retracted the comments. “Let's just slither away under the rock here,” Limbaugh said, mocking the Republicans' approach to Barton. “We'll let Joe Barton get eaten by the Democrat lizards on this to protect ourselves. This is politics and this is the reason why true believers have such a problem with politics. It's just that simple and no more complicated than that.” added by: TimALoftis
