Das Racist: Unapologetically Ignant White Student Caught On Video Saying The N-Word

Source: brankokosteski / Getty No matter how many times White folks are told not to use the N-word , for some reason they continue to test the limits to see how far they can actually go. A video of White, male, American University student, Aise O’Neil, confidently using the racial slur has gone viral — and while some people are outraged, others are not surprised by the overt disrespect. When asked why he thought it was okay to use the offensive term, O’Neil replied: “I think it’s okay to say any word.” This is why I don’t feel welcomed at American University @AmericanU @SylviaBurwell pic.twitter.com/65nepSJ4Yp — Tas (@TasneemOsm) April 7, 2019 But according to the school, the conversation was completely taken out of context. On Sunday, AU released a statement explaining: “It is vital that we recognize the historical context of the language we use. A slur that has been used in the context of racism, bigotry, discrimination and violence does harm when it is used without understanding its context and painful impact on members of our community. We remain committed to building an inclusive community where every member feels valued and is treated with respect and dignity.” AU students, however, say that racist behavior at the school is nothing new. This is disgusting. During welcome week freshmen year, a white student (male) came up to me trying to make conversation and i guess being “hip” to him is calling me his “nigga” so im not surprised to see such utterly appalling behavior from students @AU @AmericanU @SylviaBurwell — Kèylia Carter (@KayKeylia_) April 7, 2019 The tea is that people act like American University is some liberal fantasyland when there’s plenty of dumb, racist fucks like this guy all over campus. No wonder students of color are looking elsewhere to study. AU needs to take racial equity seriously, not just as a nice idea. https://t.co/V83RREySz5 — R Y A N (@RyanMarsan) April 7, 2019 The University added that they’re currently working with the students involved and affected the discriminatory language, and moving forward, the school will be guided by the Student Code of Conduct. Okay.

Lori Loughlin is Almost Definitely Going to Jail

A day after Felcity Huffman pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud, we have an update on the other big name associated with this recent college admissions scandal. What does the future hold for Lori Loughlin? According to TMZ insiders, it will almost definitely include the inside of a prison cell. This typically-reliable website reports that Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli have been offered a plea deal. Prosecutors are fine with the couple not going to trial, but they are decidely NOT fine with the stars agreeing to any sort of arrangement that doesn’t include time behind bars. As previously reported, these lawyers are intent on making an example out of the wealthy defendents who were arrested back on March 12 for allegedly scheming and bribing their kids’ way into college. In Loughlin’s case, prosecutors are offering her a plea bargain that involves a minimum of two years in jail. And here’s the thing: if these federal attorneys are offering prison time as a plea , and Loughlin turns it down, one has to imagine that they will only seek even more years in the clink if Loughlin turns it down.  No word yet on whether the Fuller House actress is willing to agree to such terms. Huffman, meanwhile, will be sentenced at a later date for her guilty plea… … but prosecutors have only recommended around four months in jail for this actress, with a judge eventually having the final say on her punishment. Why the stark difference between Loughlin’s potential sentencing and that of Huffman? It’s simply a matter of degrees. Felicity has admitted to paying $15,000 to someone who helped arrange extra time for her daughter to take the SAT; along with a proctor actually going in and changing the teenager’s test score. Terrible and illegal, for sure. However, Loughlin and her husband are accused of shelling out $500,000 for an even crazier and ridiculous scheme: They supposedly used this money to bribe officials at the University of Southern California, working with an employee at the school to pretend that their two daughters were athletic recruits who were on the crew team in high school. This was simply not the case, however. By using her wealth and status to get her children on an athletic recruit list, though, Loughlin was able to lower their admission standards and – presto! – they were granted entry to USC. Based on video evidence, meanwhile, it doesn’t appear as if Loughlin had any regrets about taking this action. It’s also clear that Loughlin’s daughter, Olivia Jade , knew all about the scheme — considering the willingly posed in a fake crew uniform in order to pass herself off as a recruit. In a statement released yesterday, however, Huffman swears her child was in the dark. This is what she said after pleading guilty: I am in full acceptance of my guilt, and with deep regret and shame over what I have done, I accept full responsibility for my actions and will accept the consequences that stem from those actions. I am ashamed of the pain I have caused my daughter, my family, my friends, my colleagues and the educational community. My daughter knew absolutely nothing about my actions, and in my misguided and profoundly wrong way, I have betrayed her. This transgression toward her and the public I will carry for the rest of my life. My desire to help my daughter is no excuse to break the law or engage in dishonesty.

First Black Student To Attend Elon University Awarded With Honorary Degree

View post:

A Black woman who broke racial barriers at Elon University was honored by the North Carolina-based institution on Thursday. Glenda Phillips Hightower —the first Black student to be accepted into the school—received an honorary doctorate degree, the Times-News reported. The trail-blazer that led to integration at Elon will receive an Honorary Doctorate during Spring Convocation. Glenda Phillips Hightower entered Elon in the Fall of 1963 beginning a strong rich legacy of black students at Elon. https://t.co/OoZWm99HhH — Elon Black Alumni Network (@ElonBlackAlumni) March 15, 2019 Hightower enrolled 56 years ago during the Jim Crow era. J. Earl Danieley —who served as the university’s president at the time—gave her a full scholarship. Although Hightower was a full-time student she wasn’t allowed to dorm on campus due to her race. While trying to pursue her degree she often faced discrimination from students and faculty. Hightower persevered because she knew that her journey at the school was something bigger than herself and that her presence on campus mattered. She was leading the way for generations of Black students coming behind her and she truly valued education. During her sophomore year, she had to withdraw from the school due to health-related issues. She ended up relocating to Washington, D.C. and took courses at Howard University, George Washington University and Georgetown. A few years later she moved to Iowa and earned a nursing and general science degree from the University of Iowa in 1974. Although she didn’t complete her degree at Elon, the school wanted to honor Hightower for her commitment to changing the racial landscape and opening up doors for other Black students. “Throughout her life, Glenda Phillips Hightower has persevered and chosen the path of love and sacrifice over bitterness,” L’Tanya Richmond , who serves as the school’s Director of Minority Affairs, said in a statement. “In the process, she has changed Elon and paved the way for thousands of Black students, faculty and staff to follow in her footsteps.” Hightower was humbled by the honor. ″‘Thank you’ is woefully inadequate to express to you my gratitude, my humility, my honor and my great satisfaction at being included in a celebration of education and grandness. I didn’t recognize it as leadership at the time, but I certainly am glad that it’s interpreted as leadership.” Universities across the country are honoring former Black graduates who trailblazed paths for students of color. In 2018, Brown University announced that it would rename one of its buildings after the first Black students to graduate from the institution. Who’s That Girl: 12 Stallionishious Pics Of Meg Thee Stallion

Source: dhinez / HotSpotAtl.com It seems like every year, there’s a new, hot chick in town that all the guys want to be with and the women want to be. Tis’ the season of Meg Thee Stallion . The Houston, Texas rapper’s name has been on everyone’s tongue these days. Even Trey Songz recently tried to shoot his shot. Trigga tweeted: “Big Ol Freak make me wanna knock the stallion head off for the culture.” Big Ol Freak make me wanna knock the stallion head off for the culture. — Trey Songz (@TreySongz) March 28, 2019 But Miss Stallion shut it down real quick with the not-so-subtle sub tweet: “Somebody tell Trigga he can’t handle me.” We can just add Trey Songz to the list of dudes trying to get close to the “Tina Show” rapper. Ever since signing to 300 Entertainment (with labelmates like Fetty Wap, Young Thug and Famous Dex) in November 2018, the Stallion has take social media by storm. Earlier this month, she released her new single “Sex Talk” off her upcoming album Fever, which is slated to drop April 12. But with major highs, sometimes come major lows. Shortly after dropping her single, Megan took to social media to announce that she’d lost her mom and manager Holly Thomas to cancer. HB’s 2019 Hustler’s List: Brittney Kelley’s Passion For Fashion & Makeup Began With Her Mother

See the original post:

Source: Claudia Hershner / Claudia Hershner HB’s 2019 Hustler’s List highlights Black women across the beauty, entertainment and marketing fields. These women are blazing paths in their respective lanes while embodying the definition of a true hustler. CEO Brittney Kelley is the definition of what it looks like to do it all, while looking good. The mommy of two is killing it as the CEO of her own makeup line, that offers lipsticks, lip liner and handbags carrying her own namesake. She is also the wife of Major League Baseball player, Josh Harrison. Balancing both family life and business accolades is no easy feat, but she does it with the grace of a pro. We caught up with Kelley about how she maintains her professional and personal endeavors, and advice she has for other women looking to start their own companies. HB: Describe how your passion for fashion and makeup began… Brittney Kelley: It began at an early age. I would sit at home and watch my mom get glammed up. I loved to play in her makeup and clothes. As a young girl, I would sit on the couch during award season and sketch all the beautiful dresses on a sketch pad as the celebrities would walk down the red carpet. It was so cool to me. HB: How did you decide to launch a line? Brittney Kelley: When I was in college at the University of Cincinnati, I created a fashion show that provided African American designers and models an opportunity to showcase their work. I was a business student and knew I wanted to showcase my styling efforts. At the time, there was nowhere for me to show it. I wasn’t a design student in college, so I couldn’t showcase them through the design program. Through my shows and research, I started to notice that there were not many African American Handbag Designers. I loved handbags, so I decided to launch my own line. From there, I launched a beauty & lifestyle brand of lipsticks to showcase bold colors for the everyday woman. There are so many beauty and lifestyle brands that focus on what the fashion industry considers beauty, I wanted to create a line that showcased a chic style for any woman (even moms). I wanted to let all women know, that “You can be your own kind of beautiful” by illustrating bold and bright colors for women of all skin tones and backgrounds. HB: What obstacles did you face in launching your line and how did you overcome them? Brittney Kelley: Because I was so young when I first started out and was working with a minimal budget, I faced the challenge of manufacturing. It took a while to find a good manufacturer that was willing to produce small quantities of my products. I never gave up and just kept contacting companies, until I found someone that could produce my items. HB: What would you say to naysayers who feel the makeup industry is “too saturated” with product offerings? Brittney Kelley: I would say that the economic base in the beauty industry is very large. “There’s a piece of the pie for everyone” you just have to find your niche! HB: How do you balance being an entrepreneur/wife/mother? Brittney Kelley: I make sure that I set aside time for everyone. As an entrepreneur, it is very easy to get caught up in your work. There can be nights where you can be up until 3am or 4am doing work. I try to create a work life balance. I am a wife and mother first. So that means if I have to spend a good part of the day with my family and then spend all night finishing up work, that’s just what I will do! My family is the most important thing to me. It’s truly a balancing act! Sometimes, I don’t even know how I do it!! HB: Who is your womenpreneur inspiration and why? Brittney Kelley: My womenpreneur inspiration is “Karen Civil”. She’s a great example of a woman that exudes self-confidence, women empowerment and not letting anyone deter you from your dreams! That is something that is so hard to come by in a society where people are constantly trying to drag you down. HB: What is the best advice you’ve ever received? Brittney Kelley: “Don’t worry about anything, instead pray about everything.” I say this, because as entrepreneur’s we are constantly worried about everything. It’s just in our nature. You want everything to be perfect. We are perfectionist!  Whether its worrying about who will like your product, if your product will sell or are you giving off the right image. All off these things can take over our minds. So, this is something that was said to me and I try to stand true to it. HB: What advice would you give to other women looking to start their own businesses? Brittney Kelley: Just do it! Ask god what he wants you to do and do it! HB: Did you ever doubt your ability to “do it all?” Why or why not? Brittney Kelley: Yes, there are many times that I doubted myself. You will always have naysayers, that say  “O there are thousands of lipstick companies”  or  “everyone has a lipstick line”. I had to push through. My husband and my family are my biggest supporters and they never let me stop believing in myself. I pray every night and still do, for god to continue to lead me on the path that he wants me to be on. I would say that he’s leading my life in his direction. Girl, Bye: Felicity Huffman’s Shame Is ‘Unfathomable’ After Trying To Get Her Mediocre Kid Into College

A source close to Felicity Huffman is reportedly speaking out on the college admissions scandal . The “close source” is probably someone in Huffman’s team trying to do damage control. See Also:  Lifetime Blames R Kelly For Gun Threats That Stopped Premiere Of Docuseries About Women Accusing The Singer According to Us Weekly , “The shame and humiliation are unfathomable. Getting arrested is the last thing she ever imagined.” Allegedly, the drama has caused tension between her and her husband William H. Macy . An insider says, “Felicity and Bill  have been arguing. The biggest concern is Felicity’s criminal case and how this is impacting their daughter.” Macy, who is 69, has not been indicted but Us Weekly reports “court documents claimed that the actor was present for a consultation regarding the plan.” Reportedly, her 18-year-old daughter Sofia “had no knowledge of the actions taken in regards to the improvement in her SAT test score.” Sure, she didn’t… The 56-year-old actress was arrested at gun point on March 12. The elaborate college admissions scheme played out through a series of b ribes, photoshopped photos, fraudulent test scores and more as a way to admit unqualified students through athletic scholarships for sports the “recruits” would rarely if ever play on the collegiate level. Actresses Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman became the faces of the scandal, for which they were criminally charged last week. This incident has invited heavy scrutiny on colleges’ admissions practices that stack the odds against countless applicants who have been denied deserved spots at schools of their choice. Understandably, Black and brown students have been particularly outraged. Students of color have historically been accused of not earning their seat at the table because of race-based affirmative action policies. Their merits have been called into question while, as it turns out, the wealthy elite were benefitting from what has been called a broken college admissions system . A recent example of this outrage is the 2016 Fisher v. The University of Texas case that went to the Supreme Court. Abigail Fisher claimed the University of Texas denied her admission based on her race. The Supreme Court would uphold affirmative action as a constitutional practice .  Some have even argued that this admissions scandal illustrates the validity of why affirmative action is still important.
