The X Factor Recap: Top 6 Go Unplugged

The X Factor Top 6 performed two songs apiece on last night’s episode, one unplugged performance and one track chosen by America. How did they do? By and large, the unplugged efforts were pretty decent, America’s choices left something to be desired, and Khloe Kardashian really needs to be fired. Let’s break down the performers, from top to bottom … Carly Rose Sonenclar – As Long As You Love Me (The X Factor) Carly Rose Sonenclar – If I Were a Boy (The X Factor) 1. Carly Rose Sonenclar – “As Long as You Love Me” (Unplugged) and “If I Were a Boy” (America’s Choice) Carly Rose was spot-on throughout her unplugged performance, and probably delivered the best version of America’s picks as well, paying homage to Beyonce. 2. Emblem3 – “Just the Way You Are” (Unplugged) and “Forever Young” (America’s Choice) The guys still have some pitch issues, but at least they’re different – for a show like this anyway – and energetic and they brought it again with a pair of strong efforts. 3. Tate Stevens – “Living On a Prayer” (Unplugged) and “If Tomorrow Never Comes” (America’s Choice) Tate skipping out on the high note in the chorus sort of hampered his first performance; his Garth Brooks cover also wasn’t great; perfectly fine, just unexceptional. Still, not bad. 4. CeCe Frey – “Edge of Glory” (Unplugged) and “Part of Me” (America’s Choice) CeCe showed she has a great voice with “Edge of Glory,” even if it still needs work. Sadly, the “Part of Me” background track completely diverged from and overpowered her. 5. Fifth Harmony – “Set Fire to the Rain” (Unplugged) and “Give Your Heart a Break” (America’s Choice) They struggled to harmonize unplugged, plain and simple. While covering Demi Lovato ‘s hit, they did sing in harmony and sound more like a group, so that’s good. The bad news is that it still might not be good enough to advance. 6. Diamond White – “It’s a Man’s World” (Unplugged) and “Diamonds” (America’s Choice) Sorry to say, but Diamond’s age (13) really shone through here, and not in a good way. As for America’s choice, OMG, they picked a song with her name in it! That’s about it. Might be the end of the road for Ms. White tonight. With only four spots in the semifinals, it’s anyone’s game … okay, probably not anyone’s. Carly Rose Sonenclar looks pretty safe. Everyone else might be sweating. Who should win The X Factor? Lil Wayne Is ‘Lonely At The Top’ But Fears The Bottom

Weezy opens up to MTV News about ‘Nightmares of the Bottom’ track he’ll debut on Sunday’s ‘Unplugged.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Lil Wayne Photo: MTV News Few artists ever reach the heights Lil Wayne has, and for the Young Money captain, that is both a gift and a curse. And it’s a dilemma that Weezy tackles on “Nightmares of the Bottom,” a new track off the New Orleans lyricist’s upcoming album Tha Carter IV. After performing the track for the first time during the taping of his “MTV2 Presents: Lil Wayne Unplugged,” set to air Sunday on MTV, MTV2 and MTV.com, the self-proclaimed Martian broke down the song’s meaning. “I mean simply, sleeping at the top with nightmares of the bottom,” Wayne told MTV News’ Sway. “Everybody says it’s lonely at the top. It is lonely, so I dream, though, and the only thing I dream about is being down there with the people that ain’t lonely. Thank God I am alone.” With eight solo albums and more than 10 million records sold, Wayne has tasted too much success to see his stock dip, so for him, a fall back to earth is a definite fear, he admitted. “And that’s simply what it is: nightmares of the bottom,” he added before rapping the song’s lyrics: “Sleeping at the top/ Nightmares of the bottom/ Everybody wanna be fly, until you swat ’em.” “Lil Wayne Unplugged” features Tunechi performing acoustic versions of his already classic catalog and places Weezy in the same class as hip-hop luminaries Jay-Z, Lauryn Hill and LL Cool J, who also took the unplugged stage. “Lil Wayne is an amazing choice for Unplugged as he is at hip-hop’s forefront — leading a new generation of artists whose appeal spans across music genres and playlists,” Amy Doyle, MTV’s executive vice president of music and talent, said in a statement. “Lil Wayne’s skills, influence, and catalog are a powerful addition to the legacy of artists who have rocked the ‘Unplugged’ stage.” Don’t miss “MTV2 Presents: Lil Wayne Unplugged,” premiering Sunday, June 12, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV2, MTV and MTV.com.

The Chevy Volt Goes on a Tour of the USA

Image: GM I Have a Special Request for GM To promote the launch of the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid, 6 Volts are about to embark on a cross-country tour. Over 3,400 miles and stops in 12 major cities are planned (see the schedule below), with special events where people will be able to do test-drives and talk to GM engineers. It all sounds good, but there’s something I’d like to request from GM and that I think would make this whole thing a lot more interested: Once all this is all over, I’d like GM to release details on how many gallons of gasoline and how many kWh of electricity were used during this ro… Read the full story on TreeHugger
